Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Country Sport, Breakfast Netball Sports session with the Vonn
Willering go Gold gold Sport. I think England are the
champions of the world, but they are the champions when
it comes to the Tiny Jamison Trophy. Last night beating
the Silver Ferns fifty nine to fifty five. New Zealand
blew it's quarter a time and halftime leads by losing
the third quarter and then struggling when the rose is

(00:22):
brought on. Helen Harsby in the game England Gold Attack
it ind fourteen goals and thirteen it'sis joining us to
look at the match. She called it on gold Sport
last night formal Silver Fern and coach Goldsport commentator Von
Willering Morning of Von Yes.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Good morning. I think you just summed it up.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
What went wrong? What went wrong?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
The an was situation that the Ferns have got the
carrying thirteen players, so for every test they're going to
name twelve and the main change is while they're only
changes is through the mid court and she's got five
players there and so they're doing a bit of a rotation.
In the first test you had O'Brien in there. She
wasn't there in the second test. You had soonest there. Now,

(01:05):
the mid court is vital for any team because they've
linked both the attacking end and the defensive end together.
So with so many changes, it's got to be hard
for both ends of the court. And they've actually indicated
they were having trouble with their center path off. And
to be fair, England is playing pretty well. But what
I couldn't believe is that this is a total reversal

(01:26):
in the situation that the Ferns made so many changes
to their team, whereas England only made one or two
and the first change they made they had to make.
They didn't start off with Halseby in that second test,
and she is a playmaker. She certainly shoots and you
indicated that forteen out of seven ems, but also she

(01:47):
just tones that whole attacking end. When they have to
slow the game down, they do so. And the player
that really impresses me a Sheene forty one out of
forty six. You know, they had no card will and
she's a brilliant goal shooter, very fast, but boy, they've
certainly got a great substitute in Gene and defensively, you know,

(02:08):
you have a look at it. Fade Zou and Williams
in combination. They are really taking it to the fans,
because that probably is the worst I've ever seen Grace
in the wiki shoot. She's still got forty three out
of fifty one, and that probably isn't quite accurate account
because she actually got most of her own rebounds, so
was obviously able to take that second shot.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Was she being rattled by England? Really, Grace?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, that and also by the feeds, and sometimes you
could see she was indicating that she wanted the ball higher,
but she's always been able to get the high ball
over defenders, and that is not the case against England
because they had a pretty wrapped up in that situation.
So she had to add something different to her game.
And sometimes yes she came out, but you know she didn't.

(02:57):
She certainly still isn't shooting beyond the what point nine
of a meter? Echanacio though, and from test one to
test too, she was asked to take the load of
Grace milWiki because Grace was being marked by two players,
and I think that Echinasio did that. She got eleven
out of thirteen, but some of those were just beautiful
long shots, and actually initially the English defenders just allowed

(03:21):
it to come into the circle, so that had to
change up. But really we got done. Like it was
really interesting defensively England. I looked at it and they
almost played what I would call zone defense. They played
the spaces and it really worked for them. And I'm
surprised that New Zealand didn't know how to counter that.
And yeah, it's a situation really that England just was

(03:43):
on top of us. We were lucky in the second
Test that we only lost fifty nine to fifty five
because what with about four minutes ago, England actually was
eight goals up. So yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Sounds like a lot of subs by the key weis
compared to the English. What are your thoughts on that?
I mean, Dan Norley made a lot of changes.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, and she was questioned about that after the first
Test and she came out quite abruptly saying, I don't
make changes just for the sake of making changes, you know,
And it was a situation like she's sitting probably sitting
there going what else can I do? Well, you can't.
Once the players take the field, take the court, you know,
well they've got a performance as simple as that, And really, yep,

(04:26):
the combinations just weren't working, and so that's why changes
were made. Sometimes I look at things and I go
just make corrections rather than changes. And yes, like players
were taken off and then put back on again, and like,
for instance, Kate Heffernan was playing quite well. I thought
she was playing pretty well as when defense. Then she
was put into center and really in this particular test

(04:49):
she did struggle a bit at center. So you know,
in that situation, if you wanted to bring Burger on
it when defense, I probably would have just taken her off.
But yeah, you can say she's still trialing out and
with one eye on Australia. But I'm sorry. You know,
every time the firms take the court, the expectation is
one they play well. It's about performance, but also certainly

(05:11):
it has to also about results.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Well if on one final match on Sunday, so what
are you expecting in that one?

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah? See, now I know I just indicated that Warms
League I didn't play. Do I want to see playing
in this No? I want the team to basically with
their errors and some of the eras weren't forced on
them by England, it was their own errors. So we
need to see a change up there, and this is
a situation by just a bit of pride more than anything.

(05:39):
So the trophy is gone, so that expectations often they
don't have that pressure on them anymore. Now the pressure
is about performance. So yeah, I just want to see
them go out there as a team, put on the
strongest lineup possible at the time, and basically stick to
that and make the players make their necessary adjustments going
through it, because, like name, not only sitting there going

(06:02):
what else can I do? Well, No, it's actually the
players out on court that that have to perform. And
are we going to say is England just too good
for us? And at the moment, yes they are. And
you know, before they came we basically said they're a
relatively inexperienced team. But boy, they are certainly starting to
develop their players for international competition. Remember last year they

(06:22):
bought a second tier team and they were still competitive,
So they're certainly doing the work there, you know. And
we have a strong reliance on a basic well ten
or twelve players and the only well, the only player
missing from this whole squad I think is Kardaker. Would
she have made a difference, Yeah, maybe, just her experience,
but no, not to the overall game. I think that

(06:45):
the players are not playing up to their full potential.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Love to chat Ivon. We'll do it again on Monday
after the Sunday nightties. Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, okay, catch up.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Von Willering here so England winning the Tiny Jamison Trophy
winning the second game fifty nine fifty five
