Speaker 1 (00:00):
Talking Rugby now on the show, and the All Black
careers of Sam Cain and TJ. Pittinara will extend into
the latter part of this year, both bound for Japan
next year. The veteran duo have been retained in the
thirty six strong squad named for the Northern Hemisphere end
of year tour yesterday. There's only one change from the
group which contested the Rugby Championship, half back Cam roy
(00:23):
Guard returning from a long injury layoff to take the
place of Crusaders youngster Noah Hotham. All Blacks played Japan
before heading to Europe for tests against England, Ireland, France
and Italy, joining us on the show this morning. Art
of the All Black coaching staff is Tarmoti Ellison Tarmiti,
good morning, killed a good morning, third time round naming
(00:47):
a squad for this batch of All Black coaching staff.
Was it easier naming this squad than the very first one?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I think so around continuity and having had connected with
the number of the guys. So yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
The big talking point Cam roy Guard, how excited are
you to get him back into into the All Black jumper?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Oh? It was great and foremost.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
To see him out and running. He's had a long
rehab process. So with any player, you just want to
see them come back and you get the first couple
of games under their belt. And as you say, it's
exciting because it's cam roy guard and he had blisterings
of rugby season. Looking forward to having him back in
the group.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Was there much thought about leaving the two older heads
of Sam Kaine and TJ Pitanara out of the squad.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
There was a discussion yep.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Again the important thing around the leadership and and what
those guys bring and more importantly what they've brought throughout
the Rugby Championship and the leadership that they've shine so
in the end that they become vital aspects of the team.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Was it a hard squad to knowdy?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I think they all are.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
You know, nothing's taken for granted. These competitions for spots
is you know, the midfield specifically, there's a number of
guys running around in the NBC doing a really good
job as well, so you know everything's you know, looked at,
the details looked at and this is the group that
get the opportunity.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
So what are the plans now? When do you fly out.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Not until next week.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
So there have been a number of guys that are
playing in the NVC quarterfinals, which would be great go
and represent their teams. And then we're in camp before
we head to Japan, and there's a couple of games
on the road for New Zealand the All Blacks fifteen
as well, so a decent squad heading heading up north,
which would be important to cover a few positions and
(02:51):
also give people game time.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
And there's another thirty plus set to be named today
for the All Black fifteen. Is there enough talent out there?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Is there? Definitely isn't in a few positions and that's
great for those guys you know that off the back
are really good NPCs. Hopefully their teams will go deeper
into the final series and then get an opportunity to
go and play some more rugby and and be closer
to the All Black group.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I guess you and the rest of the coaching staff
will be watching the NPC quarter finals with added interest
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, that's obviously the last four years of Wellington, so
it's good to see them, you know, trucking along and
there's different teams that finals foot of everything's back to
zero now, so it's going to be great and just
the amount of All Blacks that are playing that played
both last weekend and going forward will be good for
the game as well.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And you personally, Temody, have you enjoyed being in the
all black set up this year.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I've really enjoyed being back, but both with the coaching
group I've coming with.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
But also a few players at still there.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
From when when I was in the group, Nick Gill,
as well as the trainer. So it's been nice to
see bodies and sam canes and boys that were there
when when I was there, and also coming with a
with a new coaching group. Yeah, really really privileged and
making the most of of every day and trying to
make others better.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Probably the hardest European tour in a long time, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
It doesn't And then that's that's what the Jersey demands
and that's the responsibility of of the All backs. So
you know we're going to step forward into those cests
through starting with Japan,
