Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sport, the Latest from the Land and just great rock.
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
After the UK we go now to catch up with
talkSPORT Cricket editor and presenter of the follow On Cricket podcast,
John Norman. Morning, John, Hope you're well?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, really well, BK, I hope you're well as well.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
How's your weather looking over there as you get closer
and closer to winter? Sorry to bring it up, Yeah,
do you know what?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
It's actually Okay, it's a little bit rainy, but I
don't know. I think the weather all over the world
has just gone a little bit crazy. As soon as
you think it's going one way, it goes together. So
we've actually had some pretty pleasant kind of late or
early autumn autumnal sunshine. It's been relatively warm. But yeah,
by the time I finished this sentence, it will probably

(00:53):
change again.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Well, let's chat. We won't hold you up too much longer,
and let's chat about that man City the court case
with the Premier League. How's that dragging out?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Well, I mean, confusion rains and this is what occurs
when essentially administrators and lawyers decide who wins a sporting
tournament rather than the players. And this is the kind
of world we're now living in. You know. It's not
about scoring a goal at the weekend and keeping a
clean sheet. It's making sure that when you sign a

(01:25):
sponsorship deal it's in accordance with proper value. It's about
percentages of net spend against the income and all manner
of really boring. I mean, your listeners have probably already
switched off, you know. It's still's ridiculous. So, as you know,

(01:45):
and as we've spoken about, Manchester City have been charged
on one hundred and fifteen counts of essentially breaking the
rules and it comes to spending money on football. But
aside from that, they also had a case in regard
to sponsorship deals they signed with the firms that come
out of Dubai, which is where their owners come from. Essentially,

(02:08):
the Premier League thought that they'd inflated the value just
to get round the rules that they are in place
to ensure the clubs spend within their means. Manchester City,
after a court case, have come out and said that
they have been proved right. But bizarrely, the Premier League
have come out and said they've been proved right, and
so it's down to Joe Public to sift through one

(02:29):
hundred and seventy five page document to work out who's
telling the truth. And I don't have the time to
sift through one hundred and seventy five page document. But
those that do have the time have kind of come
out at the other end going, uh, we're not one
hundred percent sure, but we think this proves the Premier
League right. It's an absolute mess and the main court

(02:49):
case hasn't even started yet.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Meantime, the lawyers are clipping the ticket.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Well, isn't that all the way? You know? The only
people that are earning out of this are getting rich
or benefiting other lawyers, and there's some pretty highly paid
lawyers at work here. All right, both sides.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Let's stay with football and we can talk about Tottenham
Hotspurs Spurs and we're the phrase spursy is now ingrained
in the club's psychology after they threw away a two
goal lead against Brighton.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Yeah. This is an article in the Sun by Dave Kidd,
great writer, and essentially much like the way we say
that England are scarred by penality shootouts in the past
that have gone wrong and will always be so. The
question is our Spurs essentially that team the team that
as soon as they think that they've got themselves ahead

(03:39):
of the game, they throw it away. As soon as
they think they're top of the league, they throw it away.
As soon as they think they've got a good manager.
The manager realizes, oh no, I'm managing Spurs, and that's
kind of the feeling. I mean, let's be honest. Todd
are a bit of a joke club in this country.
They have the stadium of an absolute superstar. They talk
about their pedigree. They're one of the biggest clubs in

(04:01):
the world. You know. They hark back to players of
generations gone by that helped England win World Cups. They
look back at a proud record of cup competitions, specifically
in the FA Cup. But when it comes down to it,
they do not win the league. They do not win
the Champions League. And the reason they don't is because
they throw away two goal leads away of Brighton more

(04:24):
often than not.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
It's not the smartest thing to do. All right, Let's
move on to cricket and Jimmy Anderson. I guess I
believe he's getting sick of playing golf rather than assisting
the England bowlers in Pakistan.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Well, I'm not sure if you've followed the first two
days of the Pakistan series, and I don't blame you
if you haven't. I mean, if you were to wake
up and watch it, you would be back asleep within
about five minutes or so. It's old school cricket. Pakistan
batted for five sessions three centurions and they racked up

(04:58):
five hundred and fifty and England were ninety six for
one at stumps. So we've had the best part of
seven hundred runs in two days cricket and only eleven wickets.
So that's the kind of cricket that we've that has
been served up. But the criticism has come because Jimmy Anderson,
the new bowling consultant, isn't out there in Pakistan helping

(05:21):
the new range or the new breed of England fast
bowler learn their trade in Pakistan, burying mind. Gus Hackinson
has never played an away Test. Brydon cass Is on debut,
Chris Wolkes hasn't played an overseas Test in two years. Instead,
he's playing a pro am golf tournament in Scotland. So
he's just arrived in Pakistan today, two days into the

(05:45):
Test match. To be honest with you, he could be
bowling himself. I still think Pakistan would have wrecked up
five hundred and fifty.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
He's got some work to do then, has any on
your bowlers?

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Well he does, but you know it's an absolute road
if this doesn't go all five days and then with
handshakes at about five pm in more Town. But the
crazy thing is because of mad scheduling. You know, this
game may finish and probably will finish as a draw.
But guess where the second Test is being held exactly

(06:17):
the same statement. So it's going to be a hard watch.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, we know what this is like, and.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Then even hard to play. That's why. But this is
why fast bowlers are so so moody and miserable because
they've got to pound in on surfaces like this.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
All the time. Oh dear right, I will let you
go and enjoy whatever a sunshine is. Lift of the day, John,
Thank you for joining us, mate, and we're talk again
next week.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Yeh, look forward to BK.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Take care. Yeah, out of the land of Hope and glory.
That's John Norman here,
