Speaker 1 (00:00):
Motorsport on the Country Sport Breakfast powered by cr C
five five six made right here in New Zealand.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Clint Brown joining us on the show this morning, and
before we talk about Bathist clinic morning, how about Hayden
padn't they?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah? Mate, hasn't he been in great form?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
I mean good performance with his race team in the
endurance series around the South Island. But you know when
he gets over to Europe he just teams up with
John Canada and they just click like a well alled
Hundai machine. So congratulations, you're a rally champion once again. Mate.
He just he kicks butt down here in the New
Zealand Rally Championship, doesn't He's any the class driver?
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Absolutely mate? Absolutely? All right Bathist mate, what did you
make of it?
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Bizarre?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
All the smashes, all the crashes, all the action and
the drama happened in the build up and the practice
on Thursday and Friday, and then we ended up with
a big six hour sprint race and it's the first
time I ever of your drivers say could hey, mate,
could someone actually crash?
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I need a break?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
And it had to be a bloody Kiwi the guy
I picked on it.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
We waited five hours, which was which is actually quite
good because I took your hint and from your barbecue
guy on Friday and kicked off the barbecue season with
Beers Barbecue and Batheast.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
And that was great. But five hours the poor ol
Many paint had been going really well with Garth Cander
sticks it into the cutting just like Scotty Pie did
on the front of the Friday Night. And then of
course there was one hundred and thirty two laps, which.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Means ironically the safety car comes out, they get all
do their final pit store but feel home to the finish.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I mean what yeah, and Brodie's a stick he good
win for him though, nice to see you know him
went after not being there for the first six races
for whatever reason we're never going to find out.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Well, ironically that worked in their favor because he missed
the first six rounds. It put Todd Hazlewood in the car,
which meant he got up to speed as a co driver.
And as we know with Endurance racing, your combination of
your top driver and your co driver that can keep
up with the same sort of lap times. They were
circulating at the same sort of speed, so they have
(02:03):
actually led one hundred and fifty seven laps of one
hundred and sixty one laps.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Amazing, It's amazing.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
It was the fastest ever Bathurst five hours fifty eight
minutes of three seconds. It was the best finishing rate.
Twenty five of the twenty six starters finished the race,
and of twenty of those all finished on the lead lap,
so ninety six percent finishing rate and a record sort
of finished.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
But you know where were the crashes? Where it was
just a goddamn six hours flit.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Racey and great for a Richie Standaway. I mean, you know,
top place Ki we ninth overall, but he put up
a fight in the early stages, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well he was because he had Jackson Evans coming home.
In twentieth you had andre Heimgard and there was absolutely
excited to make the top ten shootout. Then had a
mayor and came home sixteenth, Ryan Wood and Fabian Guiltard.
They ended up fifteenth after Ryan kissed the concrete coming
into the entrance to pitt Lane. Note to self, don't
do that again. And then Richie Standaway, he was actually
(03:02):
the best of the bunch, quick in qualifying and practice,
had good race pas and then they ran out of
fuel on the final lap, dripping from ninth to sixth,
and of course poor ol Manny Pain. They were going
really well with Garth Tander until he kissed the concrete
of the cutting. So the only one of the drivers
to get a DN and for the first time. I
(03:22):
think they're won from Polson's twenty twenty one on Chaz
most it so yeah, well done to Castecki. I think
he really deserves it and it was good for that team.
And of course Erebus and Triple eight they dominated the
top three and all the four drivers I think they
all had their Mustang Sally moments because they just sort
of fell away in the end as the old GM,
(03:42):
the Hold of Boys, the four GM boys, they dominated
the race made all right.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Let's talk Shane van Gisberg in the States and over
the weekend he qualified pole in both Exfinity and in
the main game.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah, he's the king of the roble what he was.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Fortunately he missed out on the last championship top eight
for the Xfinity series by two points. He led decided
to stay out with ten lamps to go.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Other guys got up.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
And made the passes. He got run down and he
misses out on the last day by just two points.
But of course his back on poll this morning was
leading for the first fifteen laps because it's the roval
like the road course meets an oval, which is where
he's good at. So hopefully he can turn that into
a win again in the NASCAR or at least another
top ten finish. But he just shows how good he is.
(04:30):
And he was nailing the passes going down into the
airpins and the Americans say.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
That goal's ass VGI does that again. He does it all.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
It's hard.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Where will these guys? We'll get it. This guy with
this leftward breaking and all that sort of jazz.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Great stuff, and we look forward to working again this
coming weekend will be at Levels Raceway and Timory for
what they call Sudek, the endurance series on the South Island.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yes, and we've had the Temple of Speed, Tera Tonguam,
we've had the Colisseum of Cornering Ruapuna. What will Levels
International Raceway be and which is the best provincial? You know,
we've got the rugby NBC going on in the moment,
so I thought, well where are all the petrolods? Is
a Canterbury Otago is a Queenstown Cromwell. Where's the where's
the King of the Petrolods? In the South.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Tamaru, they'll come out and force mate. We look forward
to it. We'll catch you on the weekend.
