Speaker 1 (00:00):
Whether it's gum boots or rugby boots. The Country Sport
Breakfast has you covered on gold Sport, your home of
live commentary.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Stay Away from Me?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Were that great Guess Who?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Song?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Our American woman Amy Taylor, a US correspondent out of Washington, DC. Morning, Amy,
Good morning, BK.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
How goes it?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
It goes well, as we will eventually get to spring.
It's still being very cold. In fact, in the Bay
of Pretty yesterday we had thunderstorms and hail and felt
like winter all over again.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Hall it, Molly, Well, it's it's fall today.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
We're out of the any nineties or that's fahrenheit, of course,
but it's it's no longer summer, and we're moving briskly
into fall, which I'm kind of excited about.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Not only you're moving briskly into fall, you're moving very
briskly towards the elections. But you told me off here
you are over the elections. You don't want to talk
about them anymore.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I can't.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
I can't be kay, I'm so I'm so tired. I mean,
this happens every election cycle, but I think this one's
particularly worse. I just can't you know, I know you
want to talk about. You probably wanted to talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I just can't.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
It's three weeks out the it's neck and neck all
the poll you know, they pull constantly, the news organizations
poll constantly, And I was watching the Today Show this
morning and it's forty eight forty eight, and there's this,
that and the third that they're talking about moving around,
and I.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Just it's so stressful.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
And I'm part of these groups where people are talking
and you know, I mean like healthy discourse and all,
but I'm still just flummoxed and amazed by.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Some of the conversation that goes on. I I just can't.
I can't talk about it anymore. I just want to
pull the covers over my head until it's over.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
The striking thing is IV We've got political polls coming
out in the week after week as well, just telling
us which parties ahead and which just preferred prime Minster
and we're met to a three years out from another election,
so you do get a bit bored of it. That's
the shore. All right, Well, let's talk about something that's
happening over there in certain areas, and something that's been
happening here for the past few weeks and that's the

(02:15):
subject of returning to the office. And there's a major
CEO wants all the stuff to come back to work.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, so yeah, Andy Jassey, who's the Amazon CEO, has
put out this dictum about returning to work. It actually
was last month, but you know, I had to dig
around to find something to talk about because I couldn't
talk about politics anymore. But as of January, he's saying
his corporate staff has to come back five days a week.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And you know, Amazon's not.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Known for all the fancy perks that Apple and Meta
and Google are known for. It's really known for tighter rules.
And it's been hybrid for the last fifteen months, three
days a month in the office. And Jassi is convinced
of the benefits of being in person, and I, you know,
I understand that, I mean working collaboratively. I'm a people person.

(03:11):
I love to be in the office. I was in
Indiana last week for three days and just loved it.
And there is something about being in person, And so
he's not wrong about it. But the studies actually show
that hybrid is better. And the issue is that being
a leader of all the hybrid workers isn't merely as

(03:33):
fulfilling and fun, because the data shows that hybrid is
really working and it's just not as much fun for
the leaders. So the other issue that I hear a
lot of my consulting work is, oh, but our company
is unique. We're the unicorn, We're special. It's just different.
And that's what Jase's saying. Our culture is unique and

(03:56):
that maybe. But business is business, is what I tell people,
and certain fundamental principles apply. And the data on this
topic is clear. Hybrid is better, but it's just harder.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
And so I don't know.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
I think you really have to slow down to figure
it out. And what I tell people is sometimes you
have to slow down to speed up. But he's adamant,
so we'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Yeah. Absolutely, And you read some interesting stats in the
last twenty four hours, and so I I bet your
major sport over there, which is what football isn't it?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, grid iron as I think kiwis know it to be. Yeah,
it's the number one sport as far as wealth is concerned.
We'll probably viewership too. It's the wealthiest sports league twenty
billion now and expected revenue and it's supposed to hit
twenty five billion by twenty twenty seven, and that's all
thanks to Roger Goodell, who's the NFL commissioner. His expansion

(04:51):
strategy has been very effective. He's gone to extra games overseas,
expansion streaming platforms, even again ambling partnership, which I think
is a little questionable. But next up is private equity deal.
So that's really going to bring a lot of coin
to the deal. And interestingly, Diddell has never worked anywhere else.

(05:12):
He started with the NFL as an intern and he
has spent his entire career with them. He's just worked
his way up that ladder, so I think he's expected
to work for a couple more years.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
And then retire.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Interesting that one, bringing in a private equity firm, because
it's exactly what the Oblakes did with Silver Lake, And
of course a lot of money came into New Zealand rugby,
but we're not sure what's happened to it after that.
All right, I mean great, great, great to catch up.
Look after yourself. Hey, we'll do it again next week.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Sounds good me kay, have a good one.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
It's Amy Taylor, and I'm sure we'll talk about the elections.
We had to believe. Actually, it really is halting up
over there. Now it was just a couple of weeks
to go
