Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the rugby field to the rotary shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Gentlemen today, what can I do for you?

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Time to catch up with a friendly grosser, a greengrocer
David Steward, Morning David, Brian. We've got a good news
and a bad news.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Kind of day really today have and we've always mate
seasonal produce. You know what it's like, there's always something
good and something bad. Well, the good ones or the
bad ones.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
We'll start with the good news first on the on
the vegi in fruit front.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Asparagus prices down mate, you should be playing around three
dollars a bunch. It's very very nice too. We talked
about this last couple of weekears. We'very nice eating a
spar still plenty around, plenty around you had lots lots
yet it's all coming on with It's been good. It's
growing well down all over the country really, so yeah,
whatever you are, just go shopping for fantastic and vegie's.
You know, coulieflowers are cheap too, broccoli cause its local

(00:48):
cause it's a nice too, and tomatoes are cheaper.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Wow. News news so we're slowly getting to the warmth.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yep, yep, like campari tomato. Is any one's in the package?
I've told you a million times of the other best ones. Yeah, yeah, nice.
How much is it for a pack of car between
four and five for those you know were six and seven?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah, yeah, you come down loose price is good? Some
nice tomatoes around good? And then do you want to
talk about strawberries or not?

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Yes, because I know you're very excited about strawberry strawberries,
bright strawberries. Strawberries are good, mate.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Strawberries and blueberries are coming on very very nice prices
down to you should pay about five dollars for the
chip of strawberries, which is very reasonable for this early start.
When they come down further, yes they will, yes, just
don't worry it.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Will it happen?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
You know, five dollars a cheap, that's pretty reasonable.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
It's not bad.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Come on, you know, I remember a long time ago.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
When you just graduated from the Sacred Heart College in England,
Messi University.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, we were selling for two dollars ninety five at
labor weekend, you know, and that was cheap.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
That was cheap.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
So five dollars now is very very reasonable we consider
what I don't know what inflation has done the two
dollars five, but yeah, it's very very reasonable. And they
will come down, you know, as the season goes on.
They will come on big time and you'll be happy
as and all the kids eating strawberries and kick and
so that that is the good news on the by
your salads too, folks. You know caps COM's cucumbers, everything's reasonable,
their avocados, lettuces. Yeah, it's good, all right, So the

(02:07):
bad news front, what's the story here? Well, it's just
seasonal produce, you know, pumpkins, crown pumpkins and potatoes. All
that seasonal product is disappearing in volume. You know, surprices
are moving up a little bit. There was new season
spuds around, but the money for those a little bit.
You know, it's up around three dollars a kilo, which
is still pretty good, but yeah, s buds were cheap.
So that will change over next month or so, and

(02:29):
all that old season stuff will go and then we
do all new seasons. Yeah, sort of not to it,
but just up and down. You know, you got some
money saving here, and something's a little bit bit deer
there and important fruit and veggies coming in there. Yes, oranges,
mandarins from Australia. Nice. Two grapes from the States, lots
of those, and they're very nice too, those two years.
And melons from Aussie rock melons, honey melons and watermelon

(02:51):
still last those they won't. They'll go on for another
couple of weeks. But that's about it, and then you
have to wait for our stuff will be around at
Christmas time.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Fantastic.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
The next big news will be corn. People. You're talking
about corn this December, so don't can.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
We start doing it? No corn, not really yet, no God.
So we're nearly the end of October, so you know
things are tracking all right. E spring is good.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
You know, it might be a bit chilly in the morning,
but it's warm in the afternoon twenty twenty one degrees
around the countryside. So now things look good. Things are growing.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
It's good. Be happy, be happy, don't worry, be happy.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Man.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Strawberries, that's the word of the data. That's the two
strawberries and avocados. They are about a dollar or so.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, good ones are a dollar.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Fantastic, all right.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
That's the good news on the fruit and Fiji Front.
A little bit of bad news thrown in as well. David,
we'll see you next week, thank you very much. Brian
Stoberries Ripe Stoberries, as I.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Was going to Strawberry Fair singing, singing but cups, and
I just felt I had to play a little bit
of everything.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
We're newly doing that, so Strawberry bear with David's doing
