Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're talking the Bunnings n PC semi finals on the
show now where Saturday night we'll see Wellington host Waikato
at ten past seven, but before that, out of the
toe long and domain the Bay will host Canterbury joining
us on the show this morning as Canterbury coach Marty Burke. Morning,
Marty morning, How are you very very well? Thank you?
More importantly, how are you and the team feeling?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, it's been a good week. We've excited to be
able to represent the region in the semi finals. So
just have to ventureupt hopefully this funny totaler and see
how we go.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
It's been an interesting old season for you guys. And
we'll go back to last weekend sixty two fourteen winners
over Tasman last week. I mean that was a huge
result for you, wasn't it.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, it was a good big result given a tenant
had rub a degree in of us Oliver in the
year and obviously dated the shield and had and two.
There were obviously that there's the favorites in that game.
And I think we just prepared well through the weekend. Now,
men tune up on the weekend with the right mindset,
(01:08):
ready to.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Go talk us through your guys season, because as you said,
it was full of ups and downs. You had the
massive loss to Harbor a few weeks back. Did you
think you'd still make it this far?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, I think I always had belief it would be
definitely in the quarters NBC competitions. It's a bit of
a sprint, and with storm weeks and all that stuff,
it's about trying to bang points when you can and
giving your squad opportunity to play and showcase your abilities,
and the bet sometimes comes. You know, results don't necesarily
(01:42):
go your way. And also some of the games we
hadn't performed to our best or any we near our best.
So yeah, it's such a short campaign. You get a
lot of checkpoints to reflect and see what's going well
and what's not and it's not going well trying to
fix it.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Would have helped having a couple of all blacks back
into the side that you won't have this weekend, wouldn't it.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, they were great. I think anytime you get some
all blacks in your environment at lifts the level and
they bring a lot of knowledge and experience back to
the group. That being said, we've got a lot of
experience in our group as well, when I think it
just adds to it. So it's not the level and bill,
but having that and the next guys we just step up.
(02:23):
This weekend definitely has been something really exciting, and looking.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
At the entire NPC season, I mean it's actually been
a very very good season for everybody, really, hasn't.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, yeah, I think there'll be purist and me looks
at the competition and thinks it's a pretty awesome competition
on every more so this year than any other year,
Like any team could beat any team, and we've seen
that on their day and then the next week the
following things could change all over again. So you know,
first for example, we've use forty four forty five OIDE
(02:56):
players this year and debut forteen guys for the first
time in the Red and Black. So if you think
around with the purpose, the NPC is the next to
expose the next level of semi professional players until that
next year.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
So the Steamers this weekend, you would have watched their
game that was a tight one for them last weekend.
So what do they do well that you'll have to
watch out for.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, they're a really good side though well coached I'm
running no illusions that, especially the pect Total of Domain,
they're not going to be an easy team. They're going
to be very, very difficult. We see that they can
find it out in the dying moments to get the
job done for a team. And lucky enough, I know
(03:41):
quite a few of them really well that there. I'll
start in the fight and they'll come out swinging in it.
It should be a good spectacle.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
There'll be a special one for you. I guess you've
previously been on the coaching staff for the Steamers and
your brother Colin was in the ranfully Shield winning side
twenty years ago in two thousand and four. So I
guess how excited are you to returned to the sold
out tarong of Domain tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, it's a bit of sweet, it's I'm sort of excited.
I think one of the last times I was at
the Total that was the Mameless when I was coaching
bar opening against Canterbury and we managed to beat Canterbury
on that day. Now, I talk about the Domain being
a pretty special place and you have all those thousands
of people behind you screaming for the you know, the
blue and gold. I don't think I'll get the same
(04:26):
reception this weekend when I go with the opposition team
and even my brother send me messages around don't go well.
So yeah, it's going to be interesting, but something. It's
one of those things you always enjoy.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, yeah, fantastic. All right. We wissued the well not
all the very very best for the game at the
tarong of domain and in front of the fanatical crowd
on the weekend. Well done, no.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I appreciate it, Thank you. Looking forward to
