Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on
gold Sport.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's a twenty one here on gold Sport in the
Country Sport Breakfast. Well, the White Ferns have won their
maid in T twenty Cricket World Cup, beating South Africa
this morning by thirty two runs in Dubai, joining us.
The pride of the money. A Toto spin bowler out
of the White Ferns is Eden Cars this morning. Eden,
Hello and congratulations. How are you and the team feeling?
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Thank you? Yeah, pretty palms. I don't think it's really
sunken in yet, but something I was thinking in a
couple of days.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
And for you in the final you took a wicket,
so that would have been pleasing for you. What one
wicket for twenty two runs?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, pretty happy. You know, we're bold. Well, they came
out hard at the start, especially in the power play,
but to be able to pull it back take some
wickets as a team, you know, really set us up
for the whim.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
And for the semi. For you personally too. Three wickets
for you there in the semifinal, so you'd be pleased
with your bowling.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, one hundred percent. I'm happy to be able to
contribute where I need to, but being able to take
some wickets in crucial times. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with that.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Explain that feeling out there this morning, because we watched
it here in New Zealand live. When you know you
were down to the last ball waiting, you know, the
cup was virtually yours were What were the girls saying
and feeling.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Ill? During that whole over I kept looking at Sophie
and just kept smiling at each other, and then I
can see that she was on the verge of tears.
But then last water, I'll just don't bowl a wide
and it's then I nearly did bottle wide. But yeah,
some pretty surround and the crowd was amazing as well.
Just the whole atmosphere.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Conditions look pretty hot out there, were they?
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yes they were very hot, but few girls were battling
with the heap to be able to stay out there.
You know, pretty happy and.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Going to this tournament. I mean basically, I guess a
lot of people had written the White Ferns off because
you're on the back of ten losses and you know
it was going to be tough. But to end up winning,
I mean, well done. What turned it all round.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah. I think coming into the tournament, we know that
we had that ten game losing streak. I think, however,
over the last twelve months, eighteen months, we've really you know,
kind of come together. We could have either gone one
way or the other, and I'm glad that we've gone
the right way about it. We've stuck behind each other,
We've supported each other. Our coach Ben has really stuck
(02:30):
with his guns with the team. So to be able
to pull out a performance like we have during this
whole World Cup has really, you know, just a lot
of pride and money goes into that.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
And having been Sawyer there as you mentioned, and Craig
McMillan as well, that was a big helping hand.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah, one hundred. Craig's been a great addition to the
coach and staff. He really brings the fizz out of
us and you know, he he praises us on our
good but he also holds us accountable when he knows
that he can get more out of us.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
And for a lot of the team, perhaps this could
be this one song. You know a few of the
senior players they might be sort of calling it quits.
Any word on that, Yeah, I'm not one hundred percent sure.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
I hope, you know, they stay around for a couple
more years, but you never know what can happen. But yeah,
just to be able to win a World Cup for
them has really been something special and eden for you growing.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Up, I guess in the farming region of the money
of Toto. How did how did cricket end up in
your books?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I think been a like going to you know, a
farming school like Saint John's. There were a lot of
boys and then there wasn't that many girls teams, so
playing with the boys. I had a younger a younger
brother and an older brother as well, so you know,
playing sports with them was pretty key during my childhood.
And then I just you know, brother sisterly sister rivalry,
(03:53):
so being able to play with my brother alongside them,
not just in cricket but also rugby. So yeah, started
and then just kind of stuck with it.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
And then Otago sports under Craig coming as well, So
that's wonderful for you.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Craig again. He's been
a great coach for me throughout the past couple of years.
He's really you know, I brought the best out of
me and not just me, but also the Tiger's bark
as our shout out to them, love them all.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Fantastic Eton. Hey, well again, congratulations to you, to Meli Kurd,
to Brook Halliday and all the rest of the team.
Well done. You are world champions.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah, I can't believe it.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Thank you so much the congratulations. There we go, Eden
Carson spin bowler, out of the out of the white ferns.
