Long time ago, way back in history. Well there was
to drink whilst the teas along came an by the
name of him Money in a wonderful reason.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
He needed time to talk beer on the show now
with a man who is in the pursuit of happiness,
that's the specialist be a magazine. In fact, he was
in pursuit of happiness on the weekend and I think
tried a few ales from the North Canterbury region. Michael
Donaldson morning, Michael.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, Good morning Brian.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
No, I just I had a little weekend away in
christ Church and I called into a great bar in
sort of the south of the city called Moon Underwater
and as a good friend that runs that, and I
was looking at their great array of taps that they
have there, and I ordered to be here from brew Moon,

(01:04):
which is based in Amberley, north of christ Church. You know,
I'm struggling to sort of maybe fifty k's north of
christ Church something like that. I won there, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I can well remember it. Once I was biking from
Blenham to Christ Church of all Things, and I stopped
at Amberley, and I stopped for a very long time

(01:27):
because I think that the terrible hot northwester was blowing.
I didn't want to go any further. But at that
point in time, brew Moon didn't exist, but I know
that I wish it did.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
So it's been around a few years though, hasn't it.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, they've been there over twenty They had their twentieth
birthday a couple of years ago. So two thousand and
two they started, and a couple Karen McCauley and Belinda Gould,
and their son works in the business now Oscar, and
so it's a fairly run affair. Karen started brewing, and

then Belinda, who I think she knows a bit about
wine growing, she took over the brewin for a while
and now they've got another a team of brewers in
there to do the business with the beers. But it
is a total family run enterprise. And so not only
did I have one of their beers when I was
having a pre dinner drink and then I went out
for dinner and I was perusing the beer menu as

(02:26):
I do, and there was brew Moon again in this
restaurant and so I had their check Please Pilsner, which
was delicious. And you know that they've got a core
range of beers that you might see in supermarkets and
online you can order it as well. They're all good

(02:46):
that they're probably their flagship bears called hot Head and
that's an India pale ale and that's delicious, I say so.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, well, a little bit like a little bit like you.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
I was away on the weekend and I actually enjoyed
your article in the New Zealand and Flight magazine because
you were writing about women browts around the country.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a lot of women were very successful.
It the New Zealand Beer Awards earlier this year, So yeah,
there was quite a few of them. And the fact
that you know, we're talking about another woman here who
was starting to help start this business. You know, a
lot of the times historically they might have been unthung
heroes of the industry. The men took all the credit,

(03:32):
but you can certainly be sure that you know, behind
a lot of them, there were some women running the show.
And now more than anything, they're up front and doing
the business themselves.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
So behind every good man, there's a good woman.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah and behind every good beer these days.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
So well that's good. Right. So if you're in the
North Canary region and you can get this brew Moon
in other areas around the country, yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah you can. They're probably more a South Island kind
of range. Well with Ambly if you're in the region,
like they have a great little tap room and pizza bar.
So we're calling in for a visit, you know, supporting
a local a local industry and yeah and a Belie's

a nice little place.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Absolutely all right. Well, Michael, great to catch up. Another
