Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sport, the latest from the land and just great rock.
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary. We're talking international cricket now
on the show where the second Test between India and
the Black Caps gets underway later this afternoon, first ball
being bowld five o'clock New Zealand time out of poone.

(00:22):
Joining us on the CSB this morning black Caps Better,
Will Young, Morning Will.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Morning, BK.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
How are you very well? Thank you? More importantly, how
are you guys in? First off, congratulations on that to
historic win.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
It's been a great couple of days reflecting on what
was an awesome Test match in Bangalore.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
But as you say, we're in Poona now and ready
to go for the second Test.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
With the celebrations special after the Test win, Yeah they were.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
We finished just after lunch and we had a good
couple of hours in the changing room just taking it
all in and you know, receiving some are some messages
from home. You know, it was nineteen eighty eight since
we last want to test here and and even the
coach Gary Stead said there was some some are some
names coming out of the woodwork, congratulating us on on

(01:16):
what we've managed to achieve. So we enjoyed each other's company,
and yeah, we reflected on a good hart thought four
days of cricket.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
What was the Indian reaction like would there with that
loss for them?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
It's it's interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
It was a really good crowd in Bangalore, and and
you know, when they're going well, you can't hear yourself
think it's it's crazy, but you know, when you take
a few wickets or you know, you get a partnership going,
they go deadly silent. So it was it was interesting
to see this from the crowd's perspective, how they were
reacting to what happened.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
But also on top of that, you know, the Indians,
they're incredibly proud of the way they play their cricket.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
They're incredibly talented and obviously very good at home. So
I think even they were a little bit shell shocked.
But that's the nature of Test cricket. You know, even
if you have a couple of bad hours, you know,
you can find yourself behind the eight ball and you
can't quite recover, which is what happened in this particular case.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
And it was quite a wonderful twelve hours for New
Zealand cricket because the White Ferns won the Tea twenty
World Cup. Where were you guys able to strap in
and watch that and sort of celebrate kind of with them.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah, we couldn't celebrate with them, obviously, but we were
certainly tuned in, tuned in watching. So as I said,
we finished about lunchtime and the girls got underway seven
thirty pm Indian time that night, so we're all up
in the team room watching together or if you guys
were tuning in from the TV's in their own room.

(02:56):
But it was just fantastic to see to see the
woman pull off what they did, wasn't It was? Yeah,
fantastic twenty four hours Finicell and cricket, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
You personally will never easy coming in for Kine Williamson.
But thirty three and forty eight not out in the
second innings. How pleased are you with how you're batting
at the moment.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, Yeah, it's always it's always nice to come in
and get an opportunity. That's the nature of where I've
been at the last little while is just sort of
waiting in the wings for an opportunity.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
To come up.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
But yeah, it's nice to come in and contribute and
spend some time in the middle because you know, the
quality of bowling that the Indians have got, whether it's
with the new ball and the seamers and then you
know later on with the spinners, is absolutely well classed.
So I was stoked to spend some time in the
middle and even more pleased to be there at the

(03:48):
end with rutchan to and at the wedding runs.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
That was a really special moment.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
And certainly Rutchen had an amazing test, didn't he.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, look, there's there's actually no surprises.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah, he's an incredibly talented cricketer and a special young
man as well. He trains the house down, absolutely loves
the game. He's he's been doing this for a long
long time. So it's finally awesome just to see him,
you know, performing on the world stage and not just performing,
you know, he's he's absolutely shooting lights out, so good

(04:20):
on rutch and he's he's a hell of a player
and a long way to continue.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Short turnaround between the two tests. Have you had a
few training sessions between then and now?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yep? Yep.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
So the day after the test, we had a travel
day to Tapune and then we've had We've had two
good trainings in the lead up, so it's just nice
to to sort of become familiar with the new conditions.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I don't think any.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Of us have played a test here before, but the
IPL guys have have played at the ground quite often,
and we also played South Africa here in the World
Cup last year, so we do know the ground, but
but just not with the Red Bull. And yeah, who
knows what the pitch will will be like. We'll just
have to try to assess what the pitch will be

(05:10):
like as quickly as we can and adapt to.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
That, knowing India will probably be spin friendly, won't it.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I'd almost guarantee that it will turn Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Absolutely. And the weather as well. I mean, you've had
rain following you around? Is the weather? I know the
weather's a lot warmer over there. You rain check the.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Forecast, yep, yep, No, we've checked the forecast. There doesn't
seem to.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Be any rain or very little rain around for the
next five days, so that's exciting. And it is slightly
slightly hotter again than Bangalore, so we're sort of getting
up around the thirty degree mark and you know, with
high humidity, it's it's going to be a real challenge
in the heat. So hopefully there's a nice little breeze

(05:55):
that comes across the ground to call us down. But
we'll just have to look after ourselves and yeah, and
try our best to emulate what we did in Bangalore.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Absolutely fingers crossed for you Will, thanks for joining us,
and go well for the second Test.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Thanks so much, No, thanks very much, speaker Will Young
joining us.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Out of the black Caps first ball being bold at
five this afternoon, a New Zealand time coming up.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
