Whether it's gun boots or rugby boots. The Country Sport
Breakfast has your covered on gold Sport, your home of
live commentary everywhere.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Sixteen minutes past eight o'clock. I think there'll be probably
a lot of Wellingtonians actually singing this song this morning.
Take the weather with you, get shove off. It's been awful.
Joining us out of the met Service. Lewis Ferris Morning.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Lewis, good morning. Yes, very breezy around the capital over
the last sort of twenty four hours. I was out
on Cuba Street yesterday after work and there was just
everything just sliding down Cuba streets. There was quite blustering
around the city.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yester, even people on bikes. I believe you weren't on
your bike by any chance, were you? No?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I wasn't at that point, but I did have to
get on it later, but it was It was actually okay.
But I did have a funny instance in the morning
where I was going for an intersection the wind was
back against me and got through it and then all
of a sudden it was behind me and I was
flying down the road.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
All right, what's going on that's causing all this crazy weather?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Well, we do have a large low pressure system sitting
out in the PASM, which is going to throw quite
a big band of rain over the country tomorrow. South
Island is kind of in the sec of it all
of Saturday, as the North Island will get worse or
wetter as the day progresses, and around the South Island,
especially that sort of inland cannery into a targo area,
(01:26):
we're actually seeing quite a large potential for snow because
there's ben cold air dragged up from the south. So
we're really going to see quite a difference across the
country in terms of temperatures as we go through tomorrow.
We're still places around the mid twenties around the North Island,
but we're going to see places struggling to get into
double digits in the far south of the South Island
(01:47):
on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
That's bizarre this time of year. We're a week or
so out from November and we're talking snow.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah, and it could be quite a bit down to
around that five hundred meter mark. So we haven't put
out the sphere weather warnings of watchers for tomorrow just yet,
but they are being finalized and people will definitely need
to check in on those, especially if they were planning
to travel around the sort of southern half of the
South ender could be the type of snow that would
affect some of those alpine passes, so please do keep
(02:17):
up to date with that. If you had that ability
to go wherever you might be going this evening, that
would probably be the best bet. But yeah, generally the
way they looks pretty bad around the country for Saturday
and then the rest of the long weekend isn't perfect.
But I mean still remains very cool in the South,
but there will be some brighter patches people might actually
find a chance to get outside and not get absolutely drenched.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Well, we've got an NPC final happening in Wellington. I'm
coming down to that on Saturday afternoon. What's it going
to be like.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Oh, that is when the raid is really going to start,
and it's going to be quite blustery as well, So yeah,
not ideal rugby match conditions. You'll be maybe gribbing your
teeth even on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Warm gear is required. And on Sunday in christ Church
we've got Rugby League doubleheader with Australia New Zealand playing
about christ Church on Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Oh, it's actually looking quite good around there in the
current models, and we do have a northwest flow, so
keep the sky's a little bit clear, and it looks
like the rain stays away through Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
That's good news. And then labored a Monday, I think
things settling down a weebird.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, a little bit. It goes to a more sort
of straight westerly flow, so we're going to see some
showers on those western facing parts of the country. And
I will just touch on a Targo Janevan area as
they had had quite a lot of rain recently. It
does look like they do get some rain over this weekend,
so people just need to be aware of that assasie
with the soil still being very much on the saturated
(03:48):
side of things.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Absolutely all right, Lewis, thank you so much for that.
I'd say it's good news. But we'll just look forward
to a great.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Weekend, yes exactly.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
And be careful on your bike. Who was faires out
of the mid service here on gold Sport looking at
weekend whether not that bright as it it is eight twenty,
just be careful if you are traveling this weekend, particularly
driving wherever you might be. Take it easy on the road,
