Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
We are, we are, We'll share.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
You.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Yes he is. He is Australian and that is our
asie reported Jimmy darl In Morning. Jim, all right, we've
got a bit to talk about today. We're a touch
on the knit ball, the rugby league, but Stu, we'll
start with cricket. Not the New Zealand cricket team orth
They were beaten India in a series which we're just
skuyting here. But you've got some batting spots up for
grabs this week.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah. The Australia A team assembles in Makai today ready
to play India. Are interested to see what that team
looks like. I think a few of them might be
batting for higher honors too. That game starts Thursday. It's
a four to our game, the first two the second
will be in Melbourne and there's four Ossie batsmen who
are looking to lock down that vacant opening position since

(01:12):
Dave Warner retired, and selectors have also said that Cameron
Green will probably be replaced by a top order batsman.
So we've got the balter in Sam Consa's the nineteen
year old who reeled off a couple of centuries the
summer Marcus Harris, Camp Bancroft and Nathan McSweeney and in
an incredible moment to the Chairman of Selectors, George Bailey

(01:34):
said that the captain won't be naming the batting order
for the match. It will be selectors telling him who's
batting where. So that's an interesting one and yeah, you
touched on it for Australia's job this summer I think
has been made all that tougher by New Zealand poking
the bear wrapping up the series there Test series here
with a game in hand. I was just mesmerized watching

(01:56):
that cricket, thinking is this the same New Zealand side
that's been to Australia times recently and see a lot
of blokes stood up and played well above their well well,
I would say, the normal chances And I was super impressed.
And it makes you wish we could play in New
Zealand in that sort of form. But I don't think
we play each other often enough.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
No, you're probably right, there was absolutely brilliant. Let's talk
about the Pacific Championship for a rugby league. We didn't
have the best of results there, but it's proving a winner,
isn't it for Ossie.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Yes, it's amazing that the chances of rugby League test
matches moving to mid season, as a number of people
were pushing for that, now looks slim because Sundays win
by the Kangaroos and the Jileries in christ Church they
have proven ratings goal almost a million TV viewers in
Australia for the men's game, healthy numbers for the women's

(02:50):
game too, and Australia into the final with the win
over the men and it was the first time the
Kiwi girls have been held scoreless by the Australians. There
are two pretty exciting games and I thought, yeah, we're
this close to the cricket season. We've got the Melbourne
Cup around the corner and it was interesting to see
how many people have their eyeballs glued to the screen

(03:10):
to watch that. So yeah, I think we'll be seeing
more of that, although maybe not next year because it
seems the Altis are going to be heading off for
a Kangaroo tour the first time in twenty two years.
They'll be in the.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
UK and talking about tours, I mean the wall of
who's heading out to England. They've got the first of
those tests, that Grand Slam to November tenth. I think
it is in and against England.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yes, we've got a key we scrum doctor Mike Coroner,
who they're hoping will be the man who can fix
things for Australia. That's got to be the toughest job
in the world sport. At the moment, I think trying
to fix the autie scrum.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Wait, see what happens, and gotta mention on the netball. Really,
I don't think on the side of the tess when
we saw this one coming of three we've won three
in a row against Australia and the netball.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Nobody saw it coming here either too, Brian, I can
tell you that. And no one's seen too much of
it since then because it's the rate it have mentioned
the papers. It's been hidden because I think everyone's a
little bit shell shocked, bite and going by the well,
if we don't mention it, it didn't happen. But it was
incredible that the obvious could lose the Constellation Cup for

(04:13):
just the third time. It's the first time the Silver
Ferns have won in Australia, and they didn't just win
it eighteen goals in the third game in Perth. The
ground would have plenty of good reasons to go earlier.
The skipper got bench twice for Australia in this series,
which doesn't happen. And it's the first time the Silver
Ferns have won three straight by double digit margins. So

(04:35):
that is a shellacking in anybody's terms, and already it
has been described as disgraceful by former netball players. So
I'd imagine our girls of probably feeling a little it
down at the moment and we'll need to have a
good hard look at themselves before bouncing back next year.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Then we've got another match tomorrow night to look forward
to to wrap it all up. Just imagine if we
won all four in a row. Wouldn't be good for you,
would it?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Oh, it'd be great.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
You're right, all right, Jimmy, Nice to catch up mate.
We'll do it again next week.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
You see your mate.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
