Speaker 1 (00:00):
If they'd even know the way to saddle. But they
take a lot of feeding when they're racing in the cut.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
They're racing this time joining us out of Melbourne. Aidan
Radley from tab Tracks Morning Aiden.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Yeah, morning, Yeah. Obviously Melbourne Cup days, it's one of
the biggest, probably the biggest day in the New Zealand
punting calendar. It's excused for wagering and there's so much
interest in this race and I'm an easy one to
pick this year.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Bro oh no, just looking at the form and I've
got the Melbourne Cup sweep state chart here beside me. So,
first off, weather in track conditions, Aidan, what are they like?

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, So we've got a clear day dawning in Melbourne
as we speak. It's going to be a hot one
from the mid twenty twenty six, pretty similar to what
we had here on Darby Day conditions nion perfect. There's
a good foard track which will dry out just with
the heat of the day over here, but nine on
perfect conditions for this year. Shut.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
So with track conditions like that, weather like that, is
there any particular runner that it's going to suit?

Speaker 3 (01:01):
I think basically it should mean that the best horse
can win the race. Obviously, he's going to be twenty
four horses, so you've got to get luck and running.
But yeah, I think you know, the conditions are ideal
just to make it a fair contest.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
So who's the favorite?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Aidan so the favorite world? It's been up and down.
It's one of those years where he's just not a
real standout. So for that reason, we're seeing last year's
favorite bo band who's coming in with probably better form
than last year. Came in with just two runs under
the belt and just stayed in Albourne for far too long,
got a little bit stale. Came up with a thirty

(01:37):
two degree day here on Cup Day last year and
basically suited to the Irish conditions, he just cooked. So
this time they put more runs under the belt. He's
raced really well on the highest quality. Was his last
art second was against probably the horse that is I

(01:58):
think universally agreed to be the best in the world
is a stay a horse called kitp Prios. He's gone
on to win twice more as one fifteen of nineteen
and the horse who ran thirds come out and won
a couple of Group two. So the former is top notch.
From Boban and he looks the horse to beat, although
Chris Waller, of course, the New Zealand born trainer of
all of fame trainer in New Zealand's he's got Bukaroo

(02:20):
in there. His run in the Corfield Cup was just
sublime from a long way back in a race that
was dominated by those horses on speed, and I thought
it was the best trial of any horse on Australian
soil and the lead up to this, so they are
the main two that are in the market, another main
tour with as well Boban and the Bucker Roof.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
How important is the drawer as far as you know
what gate you get?

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Well, a lot of races in New Dylan, you know,
you see a lot of twelve hundred meter races where
they kick off, so that's that's a full race. Run
into the first bend in the Melbourne Cap is nine
hundred meters long, almost chilling me just to find their spot.
So it's not as bad as most races. But however
there are twenty four horses and so you've got to

(03:08):
be able to navigate a path to get your horse
into the most economical run possible. Either on the fence
or one off the fence. You don't really want to
be covering three wide ground. It's just like the Olympics
and you see a fifteen hundred meter race, those guys
are in the first lane or two. You don't want
to be any wide or otherwise you're covering more ground.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
What's the atmosphere like in Melbourne? Using Cup Day is
a huge day?

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Yeah, it's massive here and we saw eighty one thousand
on Derby Day, so an increasing crowd and that place
was just heaving. It was such an amazing atmosphere on
Derby Day. Of course Cup Day it's a public holiday
here in Melbourne and they will be fizzing for this one.
Or the fashions were out but Ronan keating performing I

(03:54):
think half an hour or three course of an hour
before the cap par so yeah, it will be will
be massives there today. I can't wait to be part
of it.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I spoke to my assie correspondent the other day and
he gave us a tip for a horse. I think
that came out of Well, Tasmania. I think a horse
called the map number two of the map. It's owned
by a bunch of farmers down that way. Similar story
to the old Kiwi horse. Really, so what do you
what's the form like for the map?

Speaker 3 (04:23):
The map, Yes, it's a fairy tale for South Australia,
but I tell you, Brian, you're key. We don't worry
about those sort the stories. And Matt can't win this
Melbourne Cup. We've got three New Zealand trained horses in there.
It's the highest number we've had since two thousand and nine,
I think, so I'd be sticking with them, and they've
got better credential, sharpest smarts, A three time Group one winner,

(04:44):
around second in the Victoria Derby and it's only start
at Flemington. He was running on nicely for Finching third
in the Mooney Valley Cup last time out, a trained
by Graham Rogerson in partnership with his wife Debbie Grahamsory
runner one of Melbourne Cup with the Fishing in two
thousand and seven. Got positivity for Andrew Foresman, she's gone
really well, and trusting you for Grant Cooksley and Bruce Wallace.

(05:06):
So I'd be going with the Kiwis.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Over the map. Well, I tell you what, trusting New's
paying good money for a win. Two hundred and one
dollars at the tab made.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I think that's justified. It would be a massive upset
if the Trust and You could win it, but who knows.
I'll tell you what I saw Positivity yesterday. She's she's
building really nicely into this cup, and especially with those
two keywis. There's a couple of horses who are shorter
in the market, are the long ones at least that

(05:35):
you can make a pretty good comparison with Athebaskan's a
horse who has been racing against Trust and You in
the last couple and there's nothing between the Athebaskans about
sixty I think fifty or sixty dollars and Trust and
News four times that. And Positivity has got really good
form correlations to a horse called Interpretation who's around fifteen
sixteen dollars in the market, and you're getting what one

(05:56):
hundred for Positivity. So yeah, there's I just really think
we should be back here and we could be causing
and active in this year's let's hope.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
So hyden enjoy the day, mate, look forward to it,
and we're going to a live commentary here on gold Sport.
Have a good one.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Good luck, yeah, good on you. Brian Is great for
your ins Here if like the everyone's calculations.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Thousands on the famous Melvin come. There are millions who
have never even sat upon a horse, whether it be
on in cattle or racing on the horse. And it's
doubtful if they'd even know the way to saddle, but
they take a lot of feeding when they're racing in
the cup. Now the famous race is over for another

(06:40):
whole book year. There's a lot of smiling faces and
there's other shedding tears.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Oh yes, love it. The Melbourne cap Love commentary here
on gold Sport five o'clock this afternoon
