Speaker 1 (00:09):
Talking rugby now and we're after France. We're after Paris.
Were All Blacks face France this Sunday morning, just after nine.
We'll have a commentary here on gold Sport by the
man we're going to be joining in just a couple
of moments, Elliot Smith getting the latest out of the
All Black camp. Bolge you, Monsieur Elliott bond As.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
You'll be kay great to catch up as always.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Sitting back with a croissant and a coffee.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Perhaps I have had a few croissants in my time
here of the last couple of days we express so
as well to the side, just to get the day started.
Look as wonderful country food wise, you can't help, but
you know, you pop into every restaurant here and you
basically guarantee the meal of your life. So you're having

(00:55):
absolute ball.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Absolutely all right, we're here to talk the All Blacks,
not French food. They've lost and this is big. I
think they've lost Sam Cain and Mark Talia to injuries
for this Sunday's Test against France. They're two big losses, really,
aren't they.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
They are for the All Black Sam Caine has been
immense this year in his final stand as All Blacks
play before he goes over to Japan. I don't think
anyone really expected him to get the role, the kind
of game time that he has had for the All
Blacks since he came back and that Test against Argentina
at Eden Park and pressed so much he was elevated

(01:31):
to the run on side and then basically has had
a mortgage on that seven jersey ever since. I think
this is quite a remarkable end to the career of
samkin and hopefully there is another chapter to be written
next week against Italy, but certainly you won't be there
this week. I think they will miss him that kind
of player against Kane against France rather Kine is that

(01:53):
the player that's going to make all those tackles. He
was so effective I thought against Ireland and also England
over the last couple of weeks, drilling players to ground
and really setting the tone for the performances of the
full pack on both occasions. So I think it is
a loss for the All Blacks not to have him
there and as I say, hopefully recovers and gets out
of the HJA protocol so there is more test footy

(02:15):
for Sam. Kine incidentally didn't play in the Rugby Cup
opener against France last year. He was ruled out through
injury on that night as well as sort of symmetry
there and then Mark Talia having forced his way back
into the starting side after press being on the out
for a little bit towards the end of the Rugby Championship,
now back in there and we saw, especially against England
how devastating he can be. Made a couple of good

(02:38):
runs I thought against Star Island in a game where
it didn't really suit the outside backs, he's a loss
as well. So that's you know, selections that the All
Blacks are going to have to consider it as to
the best possible approach to replace those players in the
run on sides. I guess Sevu Reese is probably the
leading replacement for Mark to Lea. They could move Will

(03:00):
Jordan back to the wing and put Boden bear It
at fullback, but I think they'll go away from that.
But I think the Sam came one is a bit
more interesting in terms of where the replacement comes for him,
and also.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
The host, the French. You've had to scratch a couple
of likely starters as well. What's the latest out of
the French camp, Earliert, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
A couple of blows to them too. Damian Pinot is
out this week. He was out for the Japan game
as well, ruled out on game day with illness, so
it's a blow for them. He's, you know, not far
away from breaking the all time French try scoring record.
He's been at a player for a great player for
them for a number of years, so that changes the
complexion of their attack a little bit. And incidentally, the

(03:38):
player that replaced him on Saturday against Japan has also
been ruled out of this week's game as well, so
a couple of blows there. And then in the loose
full Black pack rather Franzois Cross is out for the
game too, so a couple of blows for both sides,
so they won't be necessarily at full strength for this
weekend either the All Blacks or France, and.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
The All Blacks are naming their side Friday morning, New
Zealand time. Apart from you replacing Mark to Leo, Sam
Cane you're expecting many surprises.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
No, I don't think so. Look, I think they founder
former that's working for them at the moment, and I
guess you could consider maybe moving Cameron Rugard into the
run on side ahead of Cortez Ratima. Regard's done really
well off the bench. I think in the last couple
of matches didn't necessarily go Ratima's way against against Ireland

(04:29):
and Dublin. Slow rugball couldn't get that speedy want with
that was in his fold. I don't think so. The
whole ball being slowed down the ruck was something that
the referee didn't quite get his head around. But they
could change that. They could bring Patrick bue Blot in
the pack as well. I guess for Scott Robson, it's
how much you want to tinker this week when you
finally got a combination that is beginning to know the

(04:52):
way they wanted to play rugby. Do you tinker with
that now or do you just let it sit and
go with the styling combination that's working well. The bench
combination this work well. I'd expect to see Cody Taylor
return back to the run on side, and I suspect
Boden Barrett will come in at ten as well for
the All Blacks, dropping Damien McKenzie to the bench as well.
Damien had an excellent game against Island and Dublin didn't

(05:15):
he But I think the DEVI added to move back
to Boden at ten. I think it'll be another step
off the track to Paul Damien and start him at
ten this week when you've committed to giving Bodeen Barrett
some game time in the Big Test on this tour
at ten. The interesting thing today was All Black's assistant
coach Scott Hansen might have let slip. We'll find out

(05:36):
Friday morning. Just around replacing Sam Kaine. Now there's two
scools of thought. You could put Sam a Penny feenwe
in after coming off the bench the last couple of weeks.
He could start at six, Ardie Save could move to seven,
and one of the TV he could move to eight.
That's one school of thought. But Peter Lucky another contender
to come straight in at open side flanker and the

(06:00):
year with leaving Ardi at eight and what was the
TV at blind side flanker. And there was one comment
from the assistant coach Scott Hanson where he sort of
said that it's up to Peter Lukeye now and the
loose forwards to replace the hole that Sam Kaines left
now left there, and I think that's a pretty big
end that the All Blacks asirically considering putting Peter Luckeye

(06:22):
straight into start this Test against France on Sunday morning.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Absolutely, and the French they're on a two game winning
streak against the All Blacks. Are you are you confident
that they can sort of continue on their winning ways.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
They're a player that we have through the team that
the All Blacks haven't seen too much of recently. BK
and I guess the World Cup open up last year
and France was certainly excuse me too good on that night.
It starred de France. It was a hot old night
and the All Blacks didn't get to grips with the
way that the French wanted to play there. Had a
couple of injuries and France played its superb pays through

(06:59):
that game and just broke the All Blacks spirits in
the second half. A little bit previous occasion was twenty
twenty one, and that was right at the end of
the All Blacks three month COVID trip around the world,
so that's different than itself. The All Blacks are right
at the end of the season and had been in camp,

(07:19):
as I said, on the road for three months and
looking at the team that was rolled out on that occasion,
not a lot of names that you'd expect to be
there on Saturday local time when that team runs out
and started France. So a fair bit of water has
gone under the bridge since then, but there's no doubt
about it. France have had the All Blacks number over
the last couple of occasions. A lot of that's down

(07:40):
to the nine to ten axis, especially the man wearing nine.
Antonin du Pont such a special electric player. I mean,
it's a bit of a cliche that players can pull
things out of nothing, but Antonine de Pint is the
kind of player that will just make things happen on
a rugby field, and the All Blacks need to shut
him down come the weekend, he can take the game

(08:01):
away from him. He saw how devastating he was at
sevens and how quickly adapted to that. Everything revolves around
anton Depont and this French team, the way they attack,
and they there to shut them down come the weekend
the roles. It's going to be another loss at Star
de France for the All Blacks, so we.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Don't want that to happen and we'll come closer to home, Elliott. Yesterday,
the Super Team Super Rugby teams were named for the
twenty twenty five season. Any team stand out for you
as likely winners?

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Oh? Look, I think the Blues again, hard to go
past them. What they've put together. Not a lot of
change to their team. Are the players that are coming
in look exciting. You know, Peyton Spencer, son of Carlos
coming into the mix. It looks like a real promising
player to the Blues. So they've added plenty to their
mix as well. The Chiefs relatively stable by and large too,

(08:52):
are like the addition to Brady mcallis to give them
some depth at hook gap. The Hurricanes probably look a
little bit short with the Ardie Savia he's gone Wanna
of course, and Jordi Barrett not there next year. They
look short of a ten as well with Brett Cameron out.
So I think the Blues and Chiefs, you look at
those two, they rise above the other three legacy New

(09:17):
Zealand teams. The Crusaders very stable. The Highlander is relatively
stable too, but I think the Blues and Chiefs go
in as probably the two favorites from the New Zealand
side again as that you know, they met in the
final this year and they're fairly stable sort of looking
out fits. And when you can add in someone like
Bowden Barrett's who an already championship winning Blues team, you know,

(09:37):
it's just another factor in there that may will make
them very hard to beat in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Ellie it will say merci bakout and of wir thank
you so much, and we'll talk again before the Test.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Of Wa bk yep aa auvoir.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Monsieur, and of course we'll have a live commentary of
the match just after nine o'clock on Sunday morning, decent
time again. Can have a nice lion, get up, watch
the rug. We have a Crysant and an espresso or
bag it so live commentary right here on gold Sport
