Speaker 1 (00:00):
Motorsport on the country Sport Breakfast powered by CRC five
five six made right here in New Zealand.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Twenty one away from nine well the used car salesman
from Toowomba. Will Brown then a classic spin and win
finale on the streets of Adelaide put on an exclamation
point on his historic season by winning the final race.
It was a pretty spectacular racer, was a pretty spectacular
weekend to look at the weekend, Clint Brown with your
(00:29):
cousin doing so well, you and your relation Brownie.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Get in there, Brownie, get in there. A car dealer
from to Woomba. Hey, got a deal for you, Laddy.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
And I'm talking to another car dealer from Albany.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
So there you go. Much run of the family, mate,
It was great to see if Victor was probably the
best weekend of supercar racing in a long time because
it tended out to be smashing pumpkins. That smashed tell us,
wasn't it mate? It was great? Two and eight, Do
not change it. I love the way Brad Jones. He said,
I had a crash there many years ago. It's a
(01:02):
tricky corner. We know it's a tricky corner. Unfortunately, it
caught out two kiwis with Richie Stanaway and Jackson Evans.
But you know, you know what it's like, and that's
been one of the great things about that. I kind
of corn a tournate at Adelaide for years. So what
a weekend a racing made. It was amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
You don't often see hias in motorsport, do you. We
see it. We get used to it all the time
in rugby and rugby league, but in motorsport. And as
you said, Richie Standaway and Jackson Evans both out of
the weekend because of head injuries.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Fifty two g's Richie Standaway suffered when that helmet crashed
into the old concrete, kissed the old concrete, so you
can understand why. And it's great that they did have it,
and they had it again yesterday morning to double check
that he wasn't okay, to make sure that whoever did
get the helmet on went back out. Racing wasn't a
clear focus because when you're racing at that sort of
(01:55):
high speed two hundred and forty k and you kissed
the concrete, man, it does do a lot of damage,
not only to the car. Million bucks they reckoned was
ten and eight was four supercars, two Porsches and a
trans am that I saw also, Man, that was a
great event too, because the Ossies do a great job.
I mean they had the old motocross going there, the
speedway going and because they had to like Will Brown,
(02:19):
he got taken out after taking the championship, which was
great for supercars because he had Kistikei winning last year.
But then Erebus they exploded onto the scene. But now
they just implode it completely. And to get Alarican character
real true Ossie as you say, the car dealers Sun
from Tawoomba come through. He could talk to talk and
walk the walk. He's got all that in natural enthusiasm
(02:42):
and he were Triple eight, great team and he's a
good winner. But then he drives from last gets taken
out by Brody as the first basically lap drive from
last to first and they take each other out. So
it was it was all happening. MANE didn't know. We
had a look. It was great, great, great, great, it's been.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
It was a great way to finish the season because
there were times during the season when the racing was
just a little boring. And I think next season it's
going to be even very much different because they're going
to come down to a Grand Final, aren't they.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Well, they're going to employ the NASCAR playoff system where
you have basically it'll start in the Gold Coast when
we're at the top twelve in the standings, will go through,
then they'll drop down to the top eight at Sanddown,
and then they'll finish with the top four going into
the streets of Adelaide with the Adelaide five hundred, So
any one of four drivers could potentially win it. Ironically,
(03:32):
at the moment, NASCAR are reviewing their playoff system to
make sure it's fair that because Joey Lagano got up
he had been winning a lot of races in NASCAR
this year, he ends up winning the overall season, they say, well,
was he the best driver? So they're going to go
and review their process of how you make the final
and how you qualify for that. But of course for
(03:53):
supercars they're going to introduce that next year, which will
be great because what we saw yesterday, it wasn't about
saving fuel, it wasn't about saving tires, it wasn't about
data collecting. It was like go hard, go home, and
the drivers were actually pushing the limit, and they were
going over the limit. They were taking each other out.
As Chaz most It said, it was the last day
(04:15):
of school, so bring it on. And that's the sort
of intensity you're going to have when they're going to
be racing at the top four going into the final
event of the Adelade five hundred next year, and it
won't be nice racing. It could be a little bit
nasty because there'll be, you know, a championship on the line.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Great and well done to Matt Payne too, been finishing
best of the kiwis. I think he was fifth or
sixth place overall from the weekend and he.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Picked up a win and he was six And then
of course you were andre Heimgaranda winning at Talpo. He
finished tenth. So our five kiwis are still in there.
You know, Ryan would have made a top ten shootout.
He at his moments, Jackson Evans obviously he's learnt the
hard way about how not to give your boss a
two hundred thousand dollars bill be there next. And of
(05:00):
course it all starts back in February with the Sydney
five hundred. They have the sprint rounds first, then they
go into Melbourne Street Race, the Grand Prix and then
they come to telfo An April. Mate, so it's going
to be going to be. It was actually good to
see supercars coming alive again and not just as you say,
being procession racing because the last thing you want is
(05:21):
like another boring bathist with no safety cast for six hours.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Absolutely in Formula on this weekend. Liam Lawson back in
action at in Vegas. On the streets of Vegas.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Can you believe the many headlines everyone's having their piece
to say about what Liam Lawson should be doing and
do this?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
But everyone's an expert now one.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Pablo Montorio is telling us what he's saying. I got
bugger off. He's a great racer. Liam. Let them loose
awesome laws and just keep doing what you're doing and
take that drive, secure the when do whatever you have
to do to be a permanent racer and Formula one
because as he said, you know McLaren great name lives on,
(06:02):
so hopefully Liam Lawson can do the business. It'd be
great to watch. It's great for us Key we used
to watch see what he's doing, isn't.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
It Absolutely loving? Hey Klin, nice to catch up, Brownie.
Have a good week selling cars at Albanny Toyota.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Mate, good on your BK. There we go.
