Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sports
thirteen Away from eight Here on Gold Sport in the
Country Sport Breakfast, Crossing the Ditch now over the Tasman
(00:22):
and Rossie corresponded Jimmy Donald, he'll be loving watching the
cricket one morning.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Jim, we don't have to talk about that to we.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Brian, we should really shouldn't we.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Oh, on that first day seventeen workers, I thought, gee,
what's going on here? Then suddenly it all just turned around.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Didn't it. Yeah, both sides bowled really well on the
first day and it was just quality cricket and I
thought this is going to be a real plug match.
And then India, obviously after the hammering they copped it
home from the black Caps, they've decided to take it
out on the Aussies and they really turned on the
pressure and we stood some good bowling and then just
(01:03):
piled on the runs. And thanks too for poking the
bear Coalie with people suggesting maybe you should retire after
the New Zealand series, Well, he's made a very impressive
century before India declared and Australia, well, the knives are
out for all of the Aussies and there's a lack
of contenders in Shield cricket because the selectors, in their wisdom,
(01:25):
decided that they should rest players before probably the biggest
series there is in cricket at the moment, and we've
got nobody who's in any sort of form who could
replace them. So this could be a very long summer.
And we're currently doing a rain dance for the two
days to go in Perth because three down with about
five and a half million to get it's not going
(01:46):
to be pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Don't push the panic button yet. It's a five test series, mate,
It's all right. Terry o'keef seventy fifth birthday today, by
the way, so still will be celebrating, will be interesting
and the lunch break.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Chat he's always interesting, so yeah, and he's always celebrating,
so I think the birthday is just another reason.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
All right, Well we'll move on there, Okay, we won't
talk cricket. We'll talk Australian rugby instead, shall we. In Scotland, Yeah,
that went just as well.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Scotland too good. Scotland too good, mate.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yes, the Golden runs over twenty seven to thirteen at
Murrayfield is smothered by the Scottish defense state obviously read
all the press about Australia and the Grand Slam blah
blah blah, and their defense and their just willingness to
overlook three points and just kick for the corners and
grind down. The Wallabies work brilliantly. CI one two Palatu
Melbourne Bourne. He's played against a number of the Australians
(02:42):
and he played with them in the other twenties and
they flew his grandmother over to Scotland to watch the match.
She's the reason he's eligible for Scotland and he had
a barnstormer. He got hit with a massive shot from
Joseph Sali and the dull International may have come off better.
I think they're going to have scans to determine whether
Joseph's got a broken arm or not. So that was
(03:04):
a big moment in the game and Joseph flewed a
hard lesson there and too many mistakes, especially in them
all so Ireland next week that'll be a massive test too.
But the Wallabies they've got a couple of things out
of this tour.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
I'm sure they have, like the All Blacks as well.
Really Scotland twenty seven and Australia thirteen. And you've got
a story about a rookie with a famous mum taming
the big guns.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yes, twenty two year old Elvis Smiley. He's had a
famous mum who was a tennis player, won a few
pretty big things, mainly in doubles. She won three singles
titles in her career, but she did win quite a
few Grand Slams in doubles mixed and also the women's doubles.
And she was in tears and that Elvis did happen
(03:49):
to catch some of that at one stage, so he
nearly got put off his game when he saw mum crying.
At Royal Queensland. He managed to be a two shot
winner in the Australian PGA. Cameron Smith's playing partner. Every
time Elvis got in trouble, he was cool and calm
and knocked it out in the middle and put it
close to the flag. So yeah, two shot winner over
Smith and Mark Leishman. It's an impressive performance for the
(04:11):
young bloke. He's just two weeks since winning the West
Australian Open, his first winners a pro, and says that
he can put his newfound success down to the fact
that he's added five kilos through his lanky frame and
it's introduced a bit more power and grounding. Well, I've
added a few more than that's done my game, Baka.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
And having a name like Elvis that makes him famous
in a way too, really doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Oh yeah, I would imagine he's got plenty. He's probably
impervious to any sort of barbs he can get. And
he was playing with Cameron Smith yesterday, and Cameron in
his hometown. There were plenty of people cheering him on.
Elvis of course from just down the road at the
Gold Coast. But yeah, Cameron Smith was the guy over
and was there to see win and Elvis upstaged them.
So see what he can do at the Australian Open.
I'm hoping he has a big twenty twenty five Elvis.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Elvis is leaving the room.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Mate.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
There you go, God on your.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Mate, Jim. Always good to catch up mate, have a
great week, Yes, looking.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Forward to it. At least the cricket will be over tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
We'll put you out of your misery.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
He is Australian. Yeah, there is Jimmy Ya Dolan here
on Gold Sport
