Whether it's gum boots or rugby boots.

The Country Sport Breakfast has you covered on gold Sport
your home of live commentary eight eighteen Here on the
Country Sport Breakfast, talking well football now on the show
and what a weekend it was for number one the
Wellington Phoenix, but also for Auckland FC both winning their
games one nil over Melbourne Victory and MacArthur FC respectively

(00:23):
joining us on the show. This morning the voice of
football in New Zealand and host of Weekend Sport on
Newstalks There beat Jason Pie Morning, Piney Hallo b K.
Well the next let's start with them beating Melbourne Victory
for the first time in Australia since twenty seventeen and
the victory had all the possession, but the next one.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, this has been a bit of a theme of
Wellington Phoenix Melbourn Victory games in recent times. Bak last
year the same thing happened over in Australia. Victory had
all of the ball, all of the position, all of
the opportunities and the Phoenix got away with a one
all draw. On that occasion. Used of the afternoon sort

(01:03):
of a similar sort of a situation. They sort of
soaked uble a lot of pressure. Victory had a lot
of a lot of the ball, as you say, but
they didn't really create a heck of a lot of opportunity.
You know, I can't remember. There have been too many
saves for Josh Hollaway Emi to make in the Phoenix
goal until right at the end actually, when he pulled
off an absolutely blinding safe when the Phoenix were one

(01:26):
mill ahead to keep it at one nill. But ageah,
they found a way. They're very very solid, they're very
very organized. They totally buy into Toat's chief Ejiancalotaliano's you know, methods,
and they got the result. And now you say it's
been a long time since they beat Melbourne Victory in
Australia twenty seventeen. It's a while ago, but they got

(01:50):
the job done. And here they are with back to
back wins and back to back clean sheets.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
And I think they've got a week off now, haven't they.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
That's right, bye, So they will freshen up and then
O man, what an occasion in a couple of weeks
when they take on I'm going to talk about Oakland
f C. But the next game is the derby at
Mount Smart on the on the seventh of December. That
will be an absolute crack of eko. Ah.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Absolutely, Well, let's talk about Oakland f C. Four from
four still yet to concede a goal. Are they the
real obviously that the real deal, aren't they?

Speaker 1 (02:21):
And well, I think any suggestion that they might just
be there to make up the numbers has now been
completely refused. Look, no team has ever won their first
four games, you know, of existence, no team has ever
kept for clean sheets in their first four games. Those
are two records that Auckland f C now have in
their in their possession. Look, they I think they were.

(02:45):
They were quite as impressive last night as they have
been in their first three games. I thought they you know,
MacArthur probably had as much of the game as Auckland
FC did. But they got the crucial goal. Nice goal
too from the Uruguayan striker Consumbo May just before or
just after halftime. Actually, and look they did, they did

(03:05):
what they had to do. And again you can't the
table doesn't lie, you know. You look at the table
and there are Auckland played for one four conceeded nough goals,
top of the pile and then oh, look that's Wellington
Phoenix tuck them behind in second place. So look, the
Kiwi teams are just flying in the A League at

(03:26):
the moment. It's just awesome to see.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Poney in your wildest streams. Did you ever expect to
see both Kiwi teams one and two at this point
in the season. It's a long season, yeah, it is.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Look if we're talking in sort of you know, March
April BK and it's still the case, then then we
can start getting a little bit excited about what the
you know what the finals might might hold them, and
you can, i mean talk about wilder streams. Imagine a
Grand Final with these twos on it, you know, either
at mounts mart or at sky Stadium. I mean that
that is wild the streams stuff. But look, you can

(03:58):
only play what's in front of you. At this stage
of the season. Both teams are playing well. You know.
The only team that the Phoenix have lost too are
Auckland f C. In Augland f C. You haven't lost
to anybody. So the key WE teams are doing pretty
well at the moment.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Fantastic Pieyer, It's exciting stuff. Hey, thanks for joining us, mate,
good Man B Ksey Soon and Auckland FC take on
Newcastle Jets this Saturday at go Media Stadium in Auckland.
Joseph Kim scored the double tickets this morning to go
along to see that match on Saturday. So Joseph, thank
if you're text and you'll be UNI mate, We're going
along on Saturday to Mount Smart
