Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the cricket field to the cow shed.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport. Well.
Time to catch up now with Jim Finlay with this
weekly farming economic report from Farm Advisors and Eggs Say
New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Jim Finlay, Morning, Jim, Andy, Good morning Brian.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Talking about the rainfall that they had in Sydney yesterday,
flooding in Double Bay. You could do with some of
that rain in the way Otto and the Hawk's Bay
at the.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Moment, absolutely, Brian. I checked up at the weekend and
where Whiteotto is about three hundred mills down on what
it's sort of ten year averages to date for this year,
so it's not that flash at the present time. And
of course Hawk's Bay is also in a desperate situation
going into the summer. So yeah, things are not good. Really.
There's a reasonable amount of feed around at the moment,

(00:47):
but it needs to be managed and looked after and
conserved carefully.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
And our friends in Southland they're at the opposite end
of the scale really, aren't they.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Absolutely well, you know, they've had such a terrible time.
I doubt whether they'll even be able to make any
sub down there at flat and places. It's apparently just
been so wet that it hasn't even been funny for them.
So yeah, it's a funny sort of year. We've had
it this this time.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Absolutely all right. Now, let's look at the schedules for
this past week.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
How have they been, right, they're all sort of fairly steady.
The P two steers move down a webit and the
balls come up a little bit, but so we'll quickly
run through them. The eighteen kg yxlam the North Island
schedule is seven dollars seventy five in the South Island
is seven dollars eighty. The twenty one KGMX mutton is
three fifty in the North and three twenty in the South.
The P two steer the two seventy to two ninety

(01:36):
five kg weight range is down a little bit to
six seventy in the North and down to five six
fifty sorry in the south. The al Bonacau the one
sixty to one ninety five kg weight range is five
dollars in the North and four seventy five in the South,
and our two seventy two ninety five kg bull is
set up to six seventy in the North Island and
steady at six forty five in the South, and our

(01:56):
sixty kg venison is steady at eight fifty five in
the North and eight ninety five in the South. Has
sort of been up and down a little bit over
the last few weeks and peeked up it sort of
just over nine dollars fifty, but it's sort of sitting
ground just under that nine dollars average, which is a
pretty good price for them.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
And Deary's looking pretty good. And I think we've got
another global dairy trade auction this week, haven't we.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
We certainly have, and we're looking forward to that. And
there's indications that the futures markets are looking pretty strong
and it might still move up a little bit again,
which will very much pleased the farmer's coming into Christmas time.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Absolutely, all right, you had a good rent this week
and your news letter, your weekly rent covered a few issues.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Oh I certainly did. You sort of wonder where to
start when you have a week like this last week?
And you know, the first comment was that I was
pretty disappointed to see the all blacks standing beside the
Murray separatist flag. Excuse me, right, but one of the
real things that I've worked out is those road cones
we've been through. I went down to the eastern Bay
of Plenty and there was a lot of road cones

(02:58):
who went past and saw virtually no people out there
working on the roads. I'm wondering whether they sort of
actually sort of robotic things now with AI and they
can actually repair the roads themselves, because after a period
of time, you know, they take the road cones away
and things carry on.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
They're breeding. They're breeding down there. The road cones actually
breed and.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Mate, absolutely, and that's why properly come to life. And
they now do the road repairs themselves. Just as you
get around the country, listeners, just have a look and
see if that's really what you believe is happening at
the present time.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
And enjoyed your comments too from Chris Lackson regarding the
gang patch as been Yes.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
It was probably I think it was the best comment
of the week that I've come across. He was challenged
in the media about the gang patches and he then
had a retort back to them and said, you know,
asked the patch guy how he enters pack, because behind
every pack there is a crime of some sort that's
affected somebody somewhere, and they're not just sort of little
petty things like tip pinching a packet of chewing gum

(03:58):
from the local dairy. Our serious sort of stuff and
that's really what it's all about. I think that, you know,
these guys have all had to do something to earn
that patch, and Luxton said it very very well to
the media, and I think, you know, we need to
sort of take that on board as we sort of
move forward and perhaps be sometimes a little bit critical
about what's going on at the moment.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
To be always good to catch up. Mate, have a
great week, and we'll talk again next week.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
We will, Brian, and thank you and goodbye to the listeners.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Jim Finlay with his weekly economic report and if you
get his newsletter, it's a very very good read this
week from Farm Advisors in Eggsafe, New Zealand. Here on
gold Sport, this is the Country Sport Breakfast
