Speaker 1 (00:00):
The country, sport breakfasts, weekly tea off golf coverage with
Crown Trade up to a new Crown forklift, simply the best.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Joining us out of christ Church into provincial tournament Director
Philip Acon morning fall, good morning and today three. How's
the weather looking? First off, that's important.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
It's been fantastic for the first two days and I
think we've got our best day of them all. It's
a studying morning where everyone's already down to one layer
and I think at a few hours time they will
be suffering from the heat, I would think, but they
are very fortunate each of the teams and both genders
only play one round today. But it is stunning down here.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Then in Canterbury, you know, famous for the Northwest, as
they could affect the golf if they head the Northwesters
come through.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
We have the first afternoon it was a pretty good
wind and we're at two venues that are reasonably exposed.
Rusty Golf Club is playing fantastic so as here would
but as mentioned here, they are subject to a bit
of wind. That's a good test for these players. These
are our best amateurs in New Hellans. We like to

(01:08):
see them tested on two courses that are presented extremely.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Well, interesting matchup and interesting situation. At the moment, after
two days of players in at Canterbury and Auckland both
remain unbeaten.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Well that's right, Yeah, we've got two competitions this week.
But in the men's competition we've actually got three four
teams that have won three out of three. Now they're
going to start meeting each other. But you are right
Canterbury they are a team led by New Zealand and
as a champion Cooper Moore, very impressive young man, unbeaten

(01:41):
to date. And in that Auckland team you've got well
probably our two highest ranked domestic golfers in Joshua Bye
and Robbie Turnbull. So two very strong teams. The other
unbeaten teams are Wellington and they have plenty in the
men's competition, but as mentioned today is going to be
quite intriguing. Canterbury take on Taranaki. They are a tam

(02:04):
with quite a bit of young talent and they are
capable certainly of an upset. And Auckland have on the
course now they're taking on Otago and we've.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Got what North Tarbor, Wellington Bayo plenty all also had
three wins. So who are they playing today?

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, well North Harbor of the lucky team. They have
a bye today, so they're going to rest up for
two mounds of golf tomorrow. But they have whilst they're
on top of the leader board, they have had they've
played every game, so they've got today's by Wellington and
Bay have plenty to come. They're going to meet each
other in the final round, so that will be quite crucial.

(02:43):
We have two divisions here and the way that looks up,
we've got Auckland and Canterbury in one division and we
have got Wellington and they have plenty in the other divisions.
So at the moment they are looking like the teams
that will progress to Saturday's finals. In the men's competition.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
And the women's feel what's happening there.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Well, really no surprises. Auckland and North Harbor are the
strength in women's golf in New Zealand, and we also
have a couple of other teams that are playing very
nicely in Canterbury and Wellington, so again the locals, it's
really good to see them performing well. We have four
teams on three match wins, so unbeaten and that's North Harbor,

(03:31):
Wellington Lookland and Canterbury and they are Things are just
going to start getting quite interesting from here. Canterbury this
afternoon will play one or two Wang and Nui. That
is a team that won last year for the first
time in sixty odd years. They're not quite as strong
this year, but they've still got a bit like the
Taranaki men's team. They've got a bit of talent there

(03:51):
and they could be in for an upset. But to
finish off Canterbury still have to play Auckland tomorrow, so
that will be quite a crucial match away. It works
in the women's competition, we have twelve teams and we
will take the top four in this one big pool
through to the semifinals on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
And of course there's a little bit like live golf
coming in because they've got they've erected a grandstand at
the ninth in the eighteenth.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
How's the interest being, Yeah, pretty good todate and I
can only see it growing. I know our general manager
Tony Marriott, he's very excited. He was testing a bit
of music this morning, playing the Crusaders them and we
can certainly expect that over the next few days and
it would be nothing better for Saturday morning to have

(04:39):
both the men's and women's Canterbury teams in the semifinals,
and all is looking good for that to happen at
the moment.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So Saturday is really the big day, the decider, really, isn't.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
It It is? And it gets very interesting tomorrow afternoon
Friday afternoon, so it'll be round seven, they will be
playing their final round. There will be some crew clashes
for some it will be like a quarter final. So
it certainly gets the interesting Friday afternoon, but it does
the best. The team that plays the best golf on

(05:12):
Saturday is very likely to win. They're into provincial titles.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Fantastic, well Phil, thanks for joining us. Do a great
job there the interprovincial tournament director. And we'll talk again
before it's all over.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Look forward to it.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Thank you Philake and joining us out of Golf New
Zealand here on Gold Sport and the Country Sport Breakfast
