Good morning, and thank you for taking this call. I
appreciate this, and I'm I'm just curious. I just recently
started going to Mass and doing my own following of
Christian values and such, and just wanted to get an
idea of what you were like as a young teen
or early twenties. I know, of course you were at Carpenter,

but wanted to know what your personality was like, well.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
It's interesting because some people refer to these as the
silent or lost years. They're not lost and they're not silent.
And scripture is purposeful. It's not a day to day
recreation anyway, shape or form. It's more like, you know,
around this time of the year, people send out little
newsletters about their family with little highlights and little timmy

(01:45):
graduated from high school and all these things whatever, they
break them down, they're just kind of the highlights that
are important to what's going on in the family. Well, likewise,
scripture is the same, so there is certain parts that
are incredibly important that are talked about in scripture. Obviously,

(02:06):
the story of my birth is the starting of it,
and then it goes to it goes to a point
where I am in the temple and teaching, and my

(02:26):
parents come looking for me, and I say, don't you
know to be about my father's business, speaking about specifically
being the son of God. There is also a scripture
that talks about that I just grew simply in obedience
to my parents, listening to them and learning. It also

(02:49):
says in Luke to fifty two that I increased in
wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and Man,
which is really interesting because when you're dealing with the
hypostatic union between my divinity and my humanity, the questions
always have to be asked twice because you have to ask,

can God learn something? No, not the same way same
sense that you think about a human learning or taking
on knowledge, but as man growing up, I still had
to go through the process of learning to walk and
talk and do those things that any human did in
that way. But it says that I was doing those things.

(03:33):
I was studying practicing. That's really what it is. I
was what they referred to as in the carpentry shop
during those periods. I was being a good son. I
was doing those things. Now that stops at some point,
and as a matter of fact, you can tell that
I was in town that people knew who I was
and had interaction with me, because when I started, when

I moved from being what is referred to as the
carpentry shop, when I moved from being this son of
Joseph and Mary working in that carpenter carpentry shop and
doing those things, when I moved from that into my
ministry at the age of thirty, that you see that

(04:20):
people reacted. In Matthew thirteen fifty five says, is this
Jesus the son of Joseph, the carpenter's son, and they
started asking that. In Luke for twenty two, John six
forty two is referring to the things that I was
doing during that time prior to being thirty years of

(04:42):
age when my ministry started. And then that changes even
my relationship with my mother because at the wedding of Cana,
I'm asked by my mother to help this family who
was going to be ridiculed and embarrassed in this situation
different than embarrassment today at the wedding for running out

(05:05):
of wine. And this goes into ancient history and the
time biblical times of what it meant to be married.
It was different than now. You'd invite the whole town
and they would last four days weeks, and there was
a process of taking care of people during that time.

(05:26):
And I said, you know, it's not yet mother, it's
not our woman actually, which is very specific separating and
changing our relationship from mother and child to savior. And
now that relationship changes and becomes this powerful moment when
the first recorded miracle takes place and the ministry is

(05:50):
changed at that point. Now you have signs and miracles
and these types of things that were going on there
that changed the whole relationship. That is basically what leads
up to that there's just nothing. Everything was normal as
far as a child's concerned. That's why people respond. It's

(06:12):
not like there's some books that are referred to as
apocryphal or that don't have the earmarks of age and
authorship and language and things like that that aren't canonized
in scripture. And there are some that talk about, oh,

(06:33):
I was knocking birds out of the air with powers,
and you know, all kinds of weird things. But no,
it seals it up nicely in scripture. I was doing
normal kid things during that period and working with my family,
and then when it was time to go into ministry,

(06:54):
that's when you hear about what's going on in my
life again, because that is what actually ties in and
to scripture and helps to tell the story.

I'm curious more than curious, I'm fascinating with the correlation
between the possibility of alien contact, which I've come to
believe is going to happen in my lifetime, from being
absolute skeptic to believing it's going to happen. But the

(08:16):
correlation between scripture and the possibility of alien metaphors or
maybe even literal of alien and out of space type
entities being described in the Bible.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Well, in theology and studying of scripture, there's something called
uh exegete and isogate, and when you that means there
is a time where you're taking information from scripture, and
then there's times where people read into scripture based on views.

(09:03):
And you see this when it comes to politics and
things like that. People always trying to push their views
into scripture rather than learning from the views that are
in scripture. Naturally. So when it comes to aliens meaning
extraterrestrials life forms as similar to humans, meaning that they

(09:25):
are sentient in the sense that they can think and
reason and all of these things in the same way.
There's nothing really in scripture that would back that up.
There are talks of people going through Ezekiel and looking
at the wheel in the sky or trying to look
towards some of these things. There are times when I

(09:48):
in scripture say things like there are others that are
not of this flock, But that's talking about the difference
between Jews and Gentiles. A scripture said first to the Jews,
second to the Gentiles. So when it's talking about the flock,
it's talking about the separation between the Jews and the

(10:09):
special nature of Judaism, and then the Gentiles, which came
later the Christianity and so forth. So that's not talking
about other life on other planets or anything like that either.
So some people will read into that. One of the
biggest issues that I think is never talked about Tony

(10:30):
when it comes to this is a verse in Hebrews
Hebrews to sixteen through eighteen, and it says that I
did not come to help the angels, says Jesus did
not come to save the angels, and then it goes
on to say that the mission of coming and dying

(10:50):
was specifically for the children of Abrahim or Abraham, so
that it is about humanity. That's referring to humanity in scripture,
all of humanity. So if it's not for the angels,
which were created and only for humankind, then you have

(11:15):
to ask yourself some pretty heavy theological and philosophical questions.
So does that mean that either other life forms are
perfect and do not need salvation, which there's nothing in
scripture that would have to mean that there are pluralist

(11:36):
gods and not monotheism Ishmah Israel, deny God, Hero Israel,
the Lord, our God. The Lord is one God, one God.
So monotheism now it would break down monotheism and you'd
need either multiple gods with different ways of dealing with

(11:59):
each separate planet or each separate life form. You would
really need to break down. If not, then they're perfect,
and what is the purpose? Because God says this is
not the best world Earth, it's the best way to
the best world, which is Heaven Paradise, And so looking

(12:19):
at those things it really is more than just wow,
there might be life, And then you have to look
at the scientific aspect of it, the amount of technology,
and to assume that someone is more technologically savvy because
they're at a different location is just as strange as
saying that because you live on Earth and are in

(12:42):
a different location from someone else than you must be
the one that is more technologically savage savvy. So when
you go to the boom in the forties of the
concept of extraterrestrials in the light and being visited, and
you look at the ses that were told in the concepts,
it was based on a lot of things, including a

(13:05):
smaller amount of building blocks for life. There are more
building blocks now and actually more understanding rather about the
building blocks that make life like you as a human
than there were in the forties and fifties when there
was proliferation about the belief in extraterrestrials. And then you'd

(13:27):
have to go to well, they'd have to be so
far advanced that they could travel at light speed or
quite honestly faster to be able to travel here and
make themselves known. So there's a lot of questions in there,
Tony that are beyond well, gosh is Ezekiel talking about
the wheel in the sky keeps turning. Sorry, journey, But

(13:50):
if that deals with aliens and all these things, there
is much more to it than that. There are still
some major scientific exclusions for travel, for connection, for similarity,
the mathematics as it is. For life to exist on
it as it is now is a mathematical impossibility save

(14:15):
for the fact that it exists. So for that to
happen twice adds even more zeros to that probability. And
then theologically and philosophically you get into some other things
that would make, as it stands now, scripture obsolete because
of salvation and God and having one God, not saying

(14:39):
I'm the God of Earth, but the God of the universe,
creating all things from heaven and earth and everything else.
There's a lot more to it than just the thought, gosh,
it'd be neat if there was life somewhere else.

a question theology, dealing with God, religion, world views, the Bible,
or if there's something going on in your life, we
call them life situations. Believe it or not, they do
change if things can go from good to bad. For
some reason, people believe that they can't go from bad

to good. But they can give us a call. Eight

My question seems kind of simple, but you can guide
me in the right direction and what they can do.
I got married to I did all my sacramentos a
little child, my brothers and sisters, catechism. I got married

(16:23):
to the Church Catholic, divorced in two of five, and
I find out that I cannot receive communion because I
was married to the church and I have to go
through the diocese to fill out paperwork to get it
completed or so I can't do it. Yes, I've done.

(16:46):
I've gone to church and I've received the host, and
I tell my friends and family, you can't do it, Junior,
I'll come, Well, you're married by the Church. You have
to And it's like I wanted to. I want to
compete the circle and I feel empty without receiving communion.
What can I do on my end to feel good

(17:08):
or can I do it?

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Well, here's the thing. Manuel, you're talking about the rules
of the Catholic Church, and if you want to be
a Catholic, then by their rules you should abide. If not,
you're not a Catholic. Now, then you have to ask

(17:32):
yourself if it's important to you as a Catholic. Who've
done the sacraments and did your first communion and I'm
assuming that in that you also did your confirmation and
all of those things. You got married in the church,
And if it is your goal to be a strong Catholic,

(17:54):
then by their rules you must abide. Now, is that
God's wish for you? That's a different question. Is there
anything in scripture that says sharing or using the communion

(18:15):
as a memoriam and a reminder of the sacrifice of Christ. No,
there's nothing, but in the Catholic Church. You approach with reverence,
you bow your head, respond a man to the body
of Christ. You consume it immediately, either making what is

(18:36):
referred to as the throne with the hands or on
the tongue, extending the tongue. And those are the steps
that the Catholic Church has prescribed. So if you want
to be a good Catholic, then you have to abide
by their rules. Now, Protestants and the like would say

(19:01):
it is for all those that claim Me as their savior.
And so that's really what it comes down to Manuel
as to where you stand. If you're looking to be
a good Catholic, then yes, their rules are the rules.
But if you're asking if you are right with God, yes,

(19:23):
God has covered your sins. My death on the Cross
was for all and there is nothing to be added
to it in any way, shape or form. That's blasphemy.
And so you have to look at things that way
as to what part you play and how that is

(19:43):
in your life. But Catholicism that's controlled by Catholics. You
can't call yourself a Catholic and ignore their rules. That
doesn't make any sense because you can't say, gosh, you
know what I'm a circle, and then show everybody your corners.
You have corners, You're not a circle. That's just that's

(20:07):
how they define it and everyone. Protestants define it one way,
Catholics define it another way. Even those within the Protestant
Church have different definitions about certain things. The one thing
they all agree on is the salvation in the blood
on the cross.

I'm a Christian, a new a new Christian. I haven't
been a Christian that lot about eight eight years.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
I was a Catholic.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
I started Catholic, and Catholics are Christians?

Speaker 4 (21:13):
Yes, yes, okay, thank you? Yes.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
And so now that I'm a Christian, I guess I
hear a lot of things and I get you can say,
you watch you know, Facebook, TikTok and other things, and
then you hear things, and that I'm confused of celebrating
Christmas and not celebrating Christmas due to.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
I guess paganism.

Speaker 6 (21:42):
So I kind of now, I let my family, my son,
and my wife celebrate, but I kind of don't interfere.
I just say I don't celebrate it. So I don't
know where to stand.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Okay, Well, I know there's a lot there that can
be confusing to people, But let's look at it a
couple different ways. First of all, there is no mandate
in scripture that says you should celebrate it, and on
the flip side, there is no mandate that says you shouldn't.
And one of the scriptures I want to point you

(22:19):
to is Romans fourteen five and six, and that is,
one person considers one day more sacred than others, another
considers every day a like. Each of them should be
fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day
as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat

(22:39):
does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God.
And whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives
thanks to God. So basically, what it's saying here is
you shouldn't judge people for celebrating Christmas or not celebrating Christmas.
I think there's a lot of joy and family connections

(23:03):
in Christmas, and it can be confusing to the rest
of the family and children to not unless you have
a good reason. If you are worried about pagan roots,
I will tell you this, there are so many different
pagan roots that you participate in every single day that

(23:24):
you would have to take the ring off your finger
for marriage has pagan roots. The very tie around your
neck if you wear a tie somewhere has pagan or
different belief system roots. There are so many different pagan things.
The point is you're not celebrating pagans. Basically what Romans

(23:48):
is saying there in Romans fourteen five and six, it's
basically talking about do all things to the glory of God.
And you're not wrong. Now, you can't do something that
is against scripture, can't kill somebody to the glory or
murder somebody rather to the glory of God. But it's
about doing these things to the glory of God. There

(24:09):
is absolutely positively nothing wrong with giving gifts, putting up
a tree and lights, and celebrating Christmas to the glory
of God. Zero. So the traditions that you grew up with.
Those things, they're mostly just fine. You can put a
Nativity scene if you wish. You can do these things

(24:30):
you're if you're worshiping the tree, there's a problem. If
you're worshiping the Nativity, seeing, there's a problem. If you're
worshiping the gifts, If you're worship there's a problem. But
if you're celebrating and using it as a jumping point
for kids to learn and to understand the importance of
giving and connecting and all of those things, there's beautiful

(24:54):
symbolism and connectivity with the family in Christmas. Don't look
for the devil under every rock. The devil already has
enough ground as it is on this planet. You don't
need to look for evil. So allow yourself to enjoy
the things of God. Nature is a beautiful thing. To

(25:15):
take a photo of a sunset to be a gasp
when you see a beautiful sunset or something in creation
is wonderful. You start worshiping the creation. That's the problem.
So it really to find the balance in there is imperative.
It's one of those things. And if it was important,

(25:37):
you know, if there was something there Antonio where you
had to defy something to show the glory of God,
I'd tell you, but there's not There is no win
in not celebrating, especially if it's a family tradition. In
this sense, all it ends up being is a division

(26:00):
and separating yourself anymore than celebrating a birthday or celebrating
a wedding itself, you know, those things. It could all
be traced back to pagan beliefs, and you know, really,
you're going to just start picking apart your entire life
trying to figure out what you can and cannot do.

(26:23):
Why don't you just glorify God in the process.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
Okay, Yeah, so exactly what I was gonna say, Yes,
we will, and then then we'll Yeah, that'll be number one.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Yes, hold your people tight, Antonio, love on them. And
in scripture it says do not and don't be fearful
of different foods. The whole thing is people used to
you know, why you pray before a meal is not
only to be grateful and thankful to God for the bounty,
but also that Pagans would kill animal as sacrifices to

(27:01):
their gods or their belief system. And Christians would say, well,
I don't want to eat that, and God says, eat it.
Just be thankful to God for it, and give the
glory to God, not to whomever they killed it for.
And therein lies the attitude is to give glory to
God and all those things. And that covers it in

(27:24):
the way in which God wants you to be thoughtful
and mindful. But hug your family, go be with them,
exchange gifts, love on them, enjoy the spirit of Christmas.
Read the story of My birth, whatever it is, but
connect with any with them, and don't let anybody say
you can't, because there's nothing in scripture that says you can't.

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm.
