What's your Fourth of July?

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Story seven and the whole town went up to the
park for Fourth of July and this kid throws a
firecracker and it goes off right next to my ear.
Of course, I run to mom cry. She chased the down,

(01:02):
grabbed the cowboy hat off his head, stopped on her
she was a fire cracker.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
Okay, all right, we haven't stopped on his cowboy hat.
She stopped on his hat. Boots on the ground.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
This is.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
I wanted to thank you because you and your audience
sent prayers to me right around Mother's Day with the
great thing.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Oh, thank you you're waiting. Thank you, you are welcome.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Because it worked and this is a much better way
to lit. Oh and my mom's a fire cracker.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Oh the best kind all DEDI we're sending you a
collective hug. Kayla and I are just we're just beside
ourselves in the studio for thank you for that. Oh man, wow,

Speaker 3 (02:10):
I know what that's awful. I know that's great, But
I know what's wrong with you. I can't say it.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Next the next story, Next story.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Next story.

Speaker 6 (02:22):
The person that called or left a voice memo who
you thought had a great voice? I think that's Maria Bamford.
I really do, but I have no proof other than
I have pretty good ear?

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Is Maria Panford? Who is that?

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Is that? She's an American actress, stand up comedian often
is deprecating in dark topics.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Thank you Wikipedia, Well, no, wasn't Maria.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
It's Alison unless Maria has a fake name so that
we don't call her out on air.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
And that takes us to time for the lawmakers, the lawbreakers,
and the time that there ought to be a law.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
It's LA Law Do Do Do do?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Oh yeah, And we're combining it with our deeper dive
segment today.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Who look at that a mishmash?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
If you will keep those talkbacks coming, it's been fabulous
for our LA Law block of stories. We're going to
talk about the Big Beautiful Bill and how it is
going to affect those of us here in Southern California,
because we know by now that the Big Beautiful Bill passed.

(03:42):
It passed just last week. July fourth is the was
the deadline that President Trump issued. He said he wanted
to sign it by July fourth, and Congress did in
fact push it through. He signed it, so it has
gone into effect or will go into effect at least
for if there is another round of anything.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
I don't I'm not exactly sure.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
It seems like they keep kind of extending the process
by which this is codified. But as of right now,
this is where we're at. The Big Beautiful Bill is
in effect and there are questions around, of course, how
we will be impacted here in our corner of the world.
So let's take a look at what we can expect now.

(04:21):
Of course, the Big Beautiful Bill will do some things
that people are a bit concerned about. There are many
people who are championing this, and you might be one,
and that's your prerogative, okay, But then there are others
who are saying, hold on, let's take a second, let's
take a pause, and let's really look at some of

(04:42):
the ramifications that could be in effect, and especially here
in California. So the Big Beautiful Bill does in fact
include a one trillion dollar decrease in funding for Medicaid.
And Medicaid provides health insurance for people who have limited means.
These are people who are not necessarily considered to be

(05:05):
able body. These are people who may be disabled or
need some sort of support to be able to be
functioning members of society. And these cuts, this slash is
through work requirements for able bodied people and will change
how much states will be reimbursed by the government.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
The cuts, these cuts.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
To Medicaid specifically are expected to hit hard in California.
So here's where we will be affected. It's projected that
more than two point three million people are at risk
of losing their medical coverage. That's California's subsidized healthcare insurance.

(05:51):
Two point three million people are at risk. Both of
California's Senators Alex Paedia Adams Schiff have criticized the Bill
of Horse, but of those people who are expected to
lose medical coverage, many are extremely concerned. Gavin Newsom, Governor

(06:11):
Newsom has put that figure even higher. He's saying not
two point three million, but three point four million Californians
will in fact be subjected to these changes to medical
or Medicaid and medical federal rules regarding healthcare taxes risk
up to twenty eight billion in federal funding for California

(06:33):
being cut. Governor Gavin Newsome, excuse me, has warned that
the changes would result in hospital and clinic closures as well.
One person, in particular, Huntington Beach mom Kim Doyle, has
spoken out about it. She was interviewed by the OC

(06:53):
Register and she said that she has a daughter who
is twenty and her daughter has a duel diagnosis of
autism and down syndrome. She realies the daughter on around
the clock care and regular wellness and healthcare checkups which
are crucial. The daughter is considered medically fragile, she's nonverbal,

(07:17):
and she can't develop antibodies to fight regular infections. This
is a young lady who has a wealth of medical problems.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
She sees several specialists.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Throughout the month regularly at Children's Hospital of Orange County,
including a neurologist, a gastro enterrologist, the just so many
which she sees regularly throughout the year. Again, Mom Doyle
says that her daughter relies on both private insurance and

(07:50):
medical Again that's California's version of Medicaid, which will be
subjected to these major slashes in funding and because of
where the bill is now and what is being projected, Doyle,
Mom Kim Doyle says she's in a bit of a
holding pattern. She's basically waiting to see and watching what

(08:13):
lawmakers will ultimately do when it comes to qualifying for
these sorts of subsidies. Her full time job, Kim Doyle,
the mom right now is taking care of the daughter
because a daughter needs that round around the clock care,
round the clockcare, and mom can't work. She has to
take care of daughter, and there are many people in

(08:34):
that situation, whether it's caring for elderly, whether it's caring
for someone who has again a comorbidity that requires them
to receive that round the clock care like this daughter.
This mom says she's waiting to see because she's worried
that the proposed changes to Medicaid will result in fewer
and irregular checkups for her daughter or eventually the loss

(08:58):
of convalescence and social services that they've relied on. When
we come back, I'm going to tell you a bit
more about how California can expect to engage with the
big beautiful bill, how we will be affected here. And
we'll also talk about this no tax on tips aspect

(09:19):
of the bill, because we are a service industry here
as well a lot of service industry in our economy.
And I'll tell you a bit about why the no
tax on tips angle of the bill people are concerned
and why they should be.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
And we'll also try.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
And sneak in a little bit of ditty updates as well,
maybe even a little bit of Elon Musk's stuff too,
during our Deeper Dives LA Law segment right here on
the Chris Merril Show. Although I'm Tiffany hobbsitting in until
seven right here on KFI AM six forty Live everywhere,
on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand, KFI.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
AM six forty Live everywhere, and the iHeartRadio App. Tiffany
Hobbs here with you and we have another talkback. The
question again is what is your most memorable Fourth of
July experience.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
You've been flooding us. That's the wrong word. We're talking
strike that.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
You've been inundating us with your talkbacks, and they've been wonderful,
they've been funny.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
And we have another one ready.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Is it? You have it, Raoul, you didn't get it yet,
that's okay, that's okay. We can come back to it.
No worries, just really quick as well. We're watching some
top stories around the country. First, of course, right here
in California, the Madre Fire in San Luis Obispo eighty
thousand acres, the biggest fire to date in California history

(10:43):
thirty excuse me, California. This year not history, but this
year almost an exact year to the date of the
Palisades Fire, the Eton Fire. It's currently at about thirty
percent containment, working very hard up there in San Luis
Obispo to curb what's going on, but it is massive,
eighty thousand acres, lots of evacuations, lots of structures threatened

(11:07):
currently and tomorrow there will be the next round of
ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas. It's expected to happen
in DC between Benjamin Nutt and Yahoo and President Trump.
So we're staying up to speed on that, and of
course we're still watching what's happening in Texas.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
At least eighty people dead.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
In catastrophic flooding there in central Texas, including many girls
from the Mystic Camp, the Camp Mystic summer camp there
where there are at least eleven girls missing and one
camp counselor so over eight hundred people rescue thus far.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
But this is.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Absolutely fluid and ongoing and horrible. We're talking about the
Big Beautiful Bill in our LA law Slash Deeper Dives
Hybrid segment, and we've been talking about how the Big
Beautiful Bill in its passage will trickle down to California.
We mentioned the medical slashes, the slashes that will no

(12:09):
doubt affect those who are on medical here in California.
But the Big Beautiful Bill also includes going back into
how we will be affected here well, it includes a
provision blocking Planned Parenthood and other similar organizations from receiving
Medicaid payments for one year. Last year, for some contexts,

(12:35):
Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties provided nearly
two hundred and seventy thousand medical visits at nine health
centers across both of those counties, according to statistics collected
by the organization and outside of the organization. So Planned Parenthood,

(12:56):
for all of its controversy that people may feel about,
it does provide a lot of healthcare to people who
seek it, who use it for that thing, for those
things that they may need. The Big Beautiful Bill goes
past medical services as well. Did you know that the

(13:17):
Big Beautiful Bill contains in its language and acts it
acts as an existing ban that states have in place
in local governments that regulates artificial intelligence for a decade,
so states are able to operate independently, and many, including
here in California, haven't acted AI related regulations. Well, the

(13:43):
bill is going to acx that band. It's going to
get rid of it, making AI kind of be able
to have a free for all, and that is scary,
especially when I look at social media and I see
so many people sharing posts after posts that is clearly.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
To my eye AI and not true.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Whether it's this person said this, or this major thing happened,
or buy this thing, people can't discern. Media literacy is
absolutely compromised. People don't know. And the Big Beautiful Bill
is going to take away some of those regulations that
states have over controlling how pervasive AI is within the state,

(14:25):
California being one that has had strong regulations. Those are
going to go out the door. Some more things in
the Big Beautiful Bill. You guys have been hearing a
lot about the no tax on tips. No tax on
tips sounds good, absolutely sounds good. You make your tip,
you don't want to have to pay a tax on it.

(14:45):
But there is a caveat. There's a caveat, and it
is causing backlash.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
From some in both sides of the party.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
So the plan lets workers right now deduct all reported
tips from their taxable income. There are limits for that
eighteen thy five hundred for individuals, twenty five thousand for
joint filers, So you know you won't be able to
just deduct everything. Higher earners are completely phased out. But

(15:19):
with those with those deductions come the fact that the
tips that people will be earning will still be taxed.
In real time, you earn your tip, your tip is
going to be taxed. If it's done digitally or it's
thrown into a pot like some restaurants do, that then

(15:39):
is disseminated amongst the employees there.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Those will still be taxed.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
It's not like you're going to make an extra hundred
dollars and walk away with just a clean one hundred. No,
you're still going to get taxed on that, but you'll
be able to deduct it at the end of the
year when you file your taxes. However, there's a cap,
so you're not going to be able again to just
deduct willy nilly. So people are saying, wait a minute,

(16:04):
that's not what we thought. You know a lot of
people who were kind of championing this bill at first.
Uh Elon Musk news really quick in our LA Law
deeper dives roundup.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Oh we got it. Cool.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Uh Elon Musk is pissed. He's not really feeling President
Donald Trump. You know that you've been seeing the public
TIFFs they've been having well. As a result of that,
Elon has announced that he is going to be creating
a new political party and he's calling it the New

(16:37):
America Party. He says that when it comes to bankrupting
our country with waste and graft, we live in a
one party system, not a democracy. He wrote this on
X yesterday. He went on to say, today the America
Party is formed to give you back your freedom, the money,

(17:00):
he has the capital. So we'll see where the America
Party goes in this next three years and so on
Diddy News, Yes, Diddy has had his bail revoked because
the judge says, according to the evidence that there is
no indication that Sean Combs, P Diddy, Diddy, whatever you

(17:21):
want to call him, will not go on to commit
violent acts upon his release. So they feel the judge
feels that he is violent enough to stay behind bars
while he awaits sentencing. Yet, as you saw, a lot
of the charges did not go through, did not go through,
So it's very interesting how that's shaking down in court.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
That's our roundup. We have a talk back. Let's go
to it.

Speaker 7 (17:45):
Tiffany Hobbs, you have made my Sunday. I know Chris
Merrill isn't there, but I am so glad you are
on today. I'm working with my horses who doing my
tack room, and I get to listen to you all
the way to seven o'clock. This is awesome. You are wonderful.
Thanks for being there.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Bye, Thank you, and thank you for everything you do
for your horses.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
I'm absolutely a horse person, love equestria and everything.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
You ever want me to ride your horses, I got you.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Do you just let me know, just you know, email Kayla,
and I'll be right there and I promise you I'll
make you proud. Thank you for letting me talk to you.
When we come back, we're gonna go into a new segment.
It's called Scammers. Gonna Scam. Got a couple of stories
about some big scams that are shaken down right here
in the Southland.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
You have been warned. You want to listen.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Sitting in for Chris Meryl today until seven. Tiffany Hobbs
here with you. Kf I AM six forty live everywhere
on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Kf I AM six forty Live everywhere on the iHeartRadio
app Tiffany Hobbs here with you until seven, and then
you're going to hear the great, the one and only,
the incomparable Doctor Wendy, who's gonna have a very special
show in store for you, so make sure you listen
to that. We are in a new segment and it

(19:04):
is called Scammer's Gonna Scam because people are always loving
to separate you from your money. But before we get
into that, have some quick updates. We're watching quite a
few fires around the Southland. One is called the Archer fire.
That's near Highway nineteen and San Gabriel Boulevard in South ELMNTY.

(19:28):
So this one is, you know, this is a little closer.
It's that sixty percent containment. It's right now at about
twenty acres.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
It's a four.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Progress has been stopped, so that's good. But you know
how these things can get they can get out of
control very quickly. And of course we're still watching that
Madre fire north of US in San Luis Obispo. It
is eighty thousand acres, so significantly larger than the Archer
and growing fastly growing thirty percent containment. Evacuations have been

(20:01):
issued over fifty structures are in fact threatened at this time.
The Texas flooding situation. Eighty people dead. Eighty people dead
in the flooding in central Texas, many still missing. Many
of the dead and missing our children. Many are who

(20:22):
are from the Camp Mystic out there right there on
the bank of the Guadalupe River. One camp counselor as
well still unaccounted for. This is going to be ongoing
and it is terrible. But make sure you keep it
locked right here on KFI because our news team will
certainly keep you up to date on everything with all

(20:44):
of these breaking stories. Scammer's gonna scam a fool is
what is it easily parted from his or her money.
I hate to call anyone a fool because some of
these scams are really, really, really good. So we're not
going to vilify the victims. We're not gonna victim shame
or blame. We're gonna put all the blame on the

(21:05):
scammers because they shouldn't be doing this in the first place.
One such group tow truck bandits. Have you been hearing
about tow truck bandits? Yes, there are people who are
weaponizing their tow trucks and this is what they're doing.
Drivers have been warned to be on the lookout for
fraudulent tow truck drivers looking to take advantage of distressed

(21:31):
motorists across Los Angeles. So what they're doing is these
tow truck bandits are monitoring traffic, they're listening to their
transistor radios, They're using apps and whatever it may be
to glean information, gather in intel about crashes or anything
in their area, and then they rush to the crash

(21:53):
scene posing as helpful tow truck operators. You're in distress
and made you just had to crash a fender bender,
but it requires your car to be towed. You're waiting
for a tow truck because you know they're gonna show up.
You're busy, You've called your insurance, you've called your family,
and this tow truck shows up and they say, we're

(22:16):
here to tow you to the nearest yard or wherever
it is you want to go. Well, the La County
DA's office say that once operators tow your car, they
demand outrageous fees, or if you don't pay, they refuse
to return your vehicle until these outrageous fees are paid.

(22:41):
Absolutely fraud, absolutely illegal, absolutely an example of scammers gonna scam.
So they take your car and then you're expecting them
to take it to the nearest yard, because that's what happens.
You're in a crash, and all of us who've ever
been in a crash, it's such a stressful time. And

(23:02):
don't even take into account if you have an injury
or a child in the car, or you know, any
unmitigating circumstance, I can just just make things that much
more worse. But here's this tow truck offering to help you,
to help alleviate you of that stress.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
They take your car and they practically not practically, they
in reality hold it for ransom and until you agree
to pay these exorbitant fees whatever they may be, they're
not gonna give you your car back.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
What people are depraved and it's illegal as well. So
here are some ways you can watch out for red flags.
Let's say tow truck shows up. Well, if they show
up before you call a toe company or police, they
are scavenging.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
They are predators.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
They are a part of this scammer's gonna scam category.
They show up before you even call or police, even
show up then or you can verify that anyone else called,
then they're there hoping to be able to leach off
of you. If toe drivers insist on taking your car
to a specific body shop, not one that you want,

(24:14):
but they say, hey, I know a guy, I know
a guy, I know a place, it's probably a good
indication this is a scam. Okay, these are red flags
for these tow truck bandits that are rampant in LA
right now. And then another red flag toe drivers that
offer a ride.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Share for you.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Again, you're stressed, your car is inoperable, hopefully if you're
buy yourself, or again you have a kid or some
other circumstance, it just complicates They say, hey, you.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Know what, don't even worry about calling anyone.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
We'll get you a lift or an uber and we'll
get you where you need to go. Seems nice, genuine
seems like the nice thing to do. But experts are
saying that that is another red flag that if they
offer a ride share for you, they're trying to get
you to go to a place probably where they're not

(25:14):
gonna go. They're gonna take your car to b and
they're gonna send you to a and before you know
what's happening, your car is already gone. It's now being
held for ransom and you have no way of retrieving
your car unless you pay the ransom. And it could
be however much they want to pay. So here's how
you can protect yourself.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
One, wait for.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Police to arrive at the scene before agreeing to have
your vehicle toad. Always call police in the event of
an accident. They may not send a squad car, but
they can send a mediator, someone from the department, from
the precinct, from the local office, whatever it may be.
They can send someone there to monitor the scene. Wait

(25:56):
for them to arrive before you agree to having your
car toad. Also ask officials whether anyone from emergency services
actually called a tow truck for you. Check do your
checks and balances? People ask did any want to call
a tow truck? You're gonna be shaken up, You're gonna
be stressed, but you need to keep your keep your head.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Ask anyone call and if so, which company.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
When you get the company name for the toe company,
verify the company with your insurance or CHP. You're gonna
call your insurance anyway. If someone says they called a
tow truck or they show up, find the name, look
at the outside of the truck, look at badges, look
at you know, uniforms, whatever it may be, and tell

(26:43):
them who appeared, and verify whether or not this tow
truck company is legit or was called at all. And
of course, of course, of course, crucial, crucial, crucial, sign nothing.
Do not put pen to paper, do not sign any
thing until you have spoken with your insurance company. If

(27:04):
you feel like you have been defrauded in a situation
like this, you're urged to call and report the fraud
to local law enforcement or the California Department of Insurance
and you can get that number online, California Department of
Insurance or local law Enforcement. I think I would go

(27:24):
with California Department of Insurance first, Okay, because you know
you'll get through.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
When we come back, we're gonna talk more.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Scammer's gonna scam, and we're going to get into this
new elaborate phone scam that made one couple in Las
Vegas lose eight thousand dollars. And if it can happen
in Vegas, it can certainly happen here right here on
KFI AM six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Tiffany Hobbs here till.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Seven you're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand KFI.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
AM six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. Tiffany
Hobbs here with you filling in for Meryl. Yet we're
still getting Meryl related talkbacks, and that's okay because I
did say to send in talkbacks to let Meryl know
that you miss him, you miss something, but that you're
also enjoying this show as well. The question that was

(28:16):
posed at the top of the show it has been
revisited throughout, is what is your most memorable Fourth of
July experience to date? Not the one you hypothesize about,
not what you want to happen next year. What has
happened to you in your life that you remember that
you're willing to share. We've had some great ones, some
really heart tugging one, some funny ones. And this one

(28:40):
isn't necessarily a Fourth of July talkback as much as
it is a shout out to Kayla.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Hey, tiff how's it going. Hey?

Speaker 8 (28:49):
You know, I got to say that one thing that's
cool about you being on in State of Meryl is
that you're not going to give me s when I say, Hi, Kayla.

Speaker 9 (29:00):
You know what.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
I love Steve Honestly, I feel like he does get
a lot of crap when he says, Hi, Kayla.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
I appreciate the high Kayla's and.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
He definitely is a PEA winner and loves KFI shout
out to the p one so supportive of all the shows.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
You gotta love Steve. You gotta love Stee.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
I'm not gonna give you s, Steve. I'm not gonna
say the things that Chris Merrill might say. Although you know,
his relationship to Kayla's different than mine. He's kind of
like a big brother. Yeah you know, I'm like a
big sister. So I'm like, oh, that was so cute.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
That was nice, Steve.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Although I don't appreciate Steve, you're saying the one thing
that's cool about me. I mean, come on, now, there's
a list that Steve.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Come on, I could write a book about how quick
Okayla started it. Oh, thank you, I'm the bestseller on
the way. Oh I'm I'm you know what, We'll promote
it right here on the show. Cool things about Tiffey
one through three.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
That's it right, We're in our Oh no, actually, yes,
we are in our Scammer's Gonna scam segment. We're wrapping
up this segment, this one, this one is oh man,
I just I can't imagine being in this couple's shoes.
We just talked about the tow truck bandits going around

(30:07):
Los Angeles and towing your car and then holding it
for ransom and trying to extort you and separate you
from your money until you pay and then you can
get your car back. And it's a mess, and it
is a problem. This one has to do with being
on the phone, something that we all do. You might
not be in an accident regularly, hopefully not, but you are.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
On the phone.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
So let's find out what happened to this couple in
Las Vegas.

Speaker 8 (30:32):
Paul and Mary Anne Fox say Wednesday morning started with
call after call after call from an unknown number. They
say this was the beginning of a scam. They're now
warning people in the area not to fall for I answered.

Speaker 9 (30:47):
The phone and immediately was like, what a stern voice
is this? Paul Fox.

Speaker 8 (30:54):
The Foxes, originally from New Jersey, say they're aware of
scams and aren't normally susceptible to them, but this one
felt unlike any other.

Speaker 9 (31:03):
And he said, we have a warrant that you must
fulfill today or you could be arrested.

Speaker 8 (31:09):
Paul says he argued with the people on the other line,
but when they sent him an arrest warrant with his
name at the top, saying he failed to appear out
of federal trial, he complied with their request to pay
thousands of dollars.

Speaker 9 (31:23):
And then they sent me to a place where they
said they're not allowed to take cash at the courthouse.
So go to this address, which I have the first address,
and there'll be a black, yellow and white machine, red
flag to how we receive our money.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Red flag bagcoin machine.

Speaker 8 (31:38):
Paul is referring to is at an address he said
the scammers sent him because.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
I was blowing his spun up. I couldn't find him
for like four hours. I never not talked him four hours,
and then I located him and I sew him up
in North Flist, Vegas. I'm like, why is he up
in northlist As?

Speaker 8 (31:52):
Mary Anne and Paul say they both received calls from
these scammers, adding that the caller ID showed up as
Clark county and the officer's name on the arrest warrant
is a real officer. These scammers appear to be using
to further convince their victims.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
That is tricky it, you know, not to make it
an equivalency. So please don't think that I'm doing this.
But when we consider law enforcement and scams, I think
that is one of the hardest ones to discern between
the validity of acclaim and whether or.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Not you know this is true.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
I am led to remember what happened with the person
who ended up shooting Senator or Congresswoman Melissa Hortman out
there in the Midwest and her husband and their dog,
right because that person showed up dressed as an officer
and gained entry into Melissa Hortman's home. Story that should

(33:00):
have been talked about a lot more, to be honest,
It just it should still be on the lips of
everyone because that was just I can't imagine and and
and and this is a huge story. But this person
impersonated an officer, So that is that is one degree.
That is probably the height of what this could be.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
This is bad.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
This is eight thousand dollars that these this couple lost
because of a person impersonating an officer and saying that
there's a warrant for half of the couple's arrest.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
If you have an officer.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Come to you saying that there's a warrant out for you,
that's gonna definitely spark your curiosity, fear, anxiety, and you're
not going to be able to rationalize clearly in that
moment because you're just focused on survival and figuring out
what the heck to do next. And then the scammers
directed the husband, Paul to a bitcoin machine. Read friggin flag.

(34:06):
Never ever will you have any sort of law enforcement,
government official, anyone official, anyone ask you to pay via
bitcoin or some sort of digital currency cash, nothing like that.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Everything is regulated.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Unfortunately, like I said, when you're up against the wall
in this situation, you're on the phone, you're stressed, you're anxious,
you're scared, all of these things, you're being threatened.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
You're not rationalizing. So I don't want a victim shame.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Just want to say, never will that happen where that
a law enforcement official, a government official, anyone official will
ask you to pay via digital currency? Eight thousand dollars
and despite filing a police report, the couple was unable
to recover their money, eight thousand dollars gone.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
And you know.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
They're sharing their story, they say, to prevent others from
becoming victims. As these scams grow more elaborate. This is
very elaborate, elaborate. This is a sophisticated scam in every
sense of the word. And yes, it happened in Vegas,
but phones don't care about borders and boundaries, so it

(35:22):
could very well happen here. Be on the lookout for
such a thing. The scammer's gonna scam when we come back.
