Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Doctor Wendy Wall Show on KFI
AM six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. I
promised you I would have a solution for all the
Jewish singles out there who might be listening wondering what
to do on Christmas Eve when everything is closed? Britney show.
He is the national director of Motzo Ball. What's Motzo Ball? Britney? Welcome? Hi.
(00:25):
Sounds like a soup.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's not a soup, yella. It is a soup. But
even better, it's also one of the greatest parties of
the year. It's been happening for thirty eight years actually,
and this year we're doing it in seven major cities
in the US. So if you're not going on Christmas Eve,
what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Okay, So let's talk about the problem. Thirty eight years ago,
some person said, what are people between the ages of
like twenty and forty do on Christmas Eve? When literally
everything's closed and they're not necessarily celebrating the birth of
Christ most people in America as celebrating the birth of consumerism.
I think, but whatever, and so what do they do?
(01:05):
And somebody came up with this concept, Well, this is
a night to party all night. Is that what happened?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Well, yes, yes, yes, definitely yes. But Andrew, actually I
dread Nick, the founder Monsibal, was looking for his wife
and he was like, listen, you know what, I'm going
to throw the biggest and best party of the year.
And what he did was he goes, what did Jewish
people do on Christmas Eve? Besides the Chinese food? And
you know, just count fingers and there behold came the
(01:34):
Massibal and it's been notorious ever since. Just about ten
years after creating his first monsible, he found his Jewish
wife at Yeah, I took him ten years, but listen,
I mean it's a little different when you're working it
versus attending, that's for sure. I mean we've had thousands
of marriages and counting. There's people that come back that
(01:57):
have babies and they just want to celebrate it, joy
the night and just honor of all the great should
us and like partnership that we've been able to create
between young Jewish people.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
And according to your website, you've had nearly half a
million people attend these things since nineteen eighty seven. And I,
you know, I was curious, so I clicked on a
lot of the videos from places like Miami, Boston, Philadelphia.
There ain't nothing religious about these parties. There was a
lot of and but grabbing, twerk and dance into DJs.
(02:30):
This is a very modern party.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Right well, I mean listen, everybody has free choice. I
think that's that's the bottom line as far as what
you know, the Massa ball is, it's just the night
to have a good time and be around young Jewish
people that are single and want to mingle and enjoy
in some of the greatest cities in the US. So
(02:51):
that's really the bottom line. But it's really it's really
just a night to have fun and get to know people.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Okay, So there is alcohol served. So if somebody is,
you know, seriously religious and doesn't even drink alcohol, probably
not the place for them. Or they can order soda water.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Right yeah, I mean listen, we in Judaism you can
drink so as well. I mean, good some holidays even
promote it, believe it or not. It's very apart, very
much so a part of our culture. We have wine
every Shabbat. I mean, it's very normal. So I think
even if you are religious, I mean, we have different
ranges of religious observance that you attend. But I will
(03:31):
say that most of the people that do attend are
a little more secular. But we do have religious people.
We have all different types of modern orthdox. I mean,
it doesn't matter if you're a Jew. You're a Jew
and you're more than welcome to join.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
And so it's on Christmas Eve. And tell me the city.
So you said seven cities.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yes, okay, So we have New York, we have Miami,
we have Foca, we have Boston, we have DC, we
have Philly, and we have la.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I love it. You just call it Boca, thinking that
everybody will not. I actually lived in Boca ratone one
time and for a short period of time, and I
used to call it God's waiting room. It's quite a
retirement community too.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
But you're Jewish and you don't know what Boka is, Like,
what are you doing right exactly?
Speaker 1 (04:21):
And Philadelphia, Washington, d C, Boston, Los Angeles? Where is
it here in Los Angeles? Where are you holding it?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah? So we're actually hold on. There's so many amazing cities.
I'll give me a second. Well, look it up.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Where the cool venue is. I'm going to tell people
that this year they've done something interesting. At the Box
of Ball, they have paired with a Jewish dating app
called I'm Not making fun here Jews. You know what
that means. It's j e w zz see in that
cool Jews Jews. Right, Okay, we're on this dating app.
(05:02):
You can do video speed dating, you can try to
meet online then meet in the real world, and which
I think dating apps need to push people to get
off the apps and get out in the real world.
And you can find people on the app before Mazibal,
so you know who to go and meet.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Up with their Yeah. So, actually, the coolest thing about
jess and the reason we work with Jesus is because
if you are going to Massibal, it's totally free to
join the app, and every single person that's at the
Massi Ball is most likely on the app, and if
they're not, they're going to get on the app by
the end of the Massible. So the goal is to
get everybody on there, because hey, you never know if
(05:41):
you have time to speak to everybody at the party,
and there's a lot of cute singles that want to
mingle and go out on wonderful dates, and you'll have
the opportunity to connect with them. So it's almost like
an immersive experience of in person and then getting in
touch from online.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Okay, Christmas Eve here in Los Angeles? Where can yes
you guybar people?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Skybar? Oh wow, yeah, fancy.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I know there's so many amazing locations. I'm like, oh
my goodness, which one are we talking about? But yes,
we're hosting at Skybar.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
And how do people register? Sign up, get a ticket,
show up? What do they do? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Well, head on to our website at mockwell dot org
and you could also check us out at Mockaball Events
on Instagram. We are constantly posting fun giveaways, opportunities for
people to bring a friend. I mean, there's so much
fun going around. And not only that. For the year
to come, we will be doing Shabbat dinners, comedy shows,
(06:39):
events all throughout the year. A Maso mingles are every
month pretty much in most major cities, so there's a
lot more opportunity aside from the Masibaal, but the Mockball
is the biggest event of the year. Guys, if you
are listening, this is your sign you have to be there.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
This is all out. Wow, how many people can you accommodate?
In La Skybars. Gotta have people.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Yeah, I would say I would say over that, just that,
over that. But you know, New York is our biggest party.
Miami and La are huge as well. I mean, Philly's
been doing amazing. If you're in Philly, you should get
your ticket now because we really are almost gone. Oh
with our ticket sales, I get them twenty four seconds.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
I have a question, Brittany. Yeah, let's say there's somebody
who wants to marry a hot Jewish man but they're
not Jewish. Can they still come?
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Listen, all are welcome. Obviously we cater to the Jewish
community because we're the Moss Ball. And again, listen, everyone
has free choices. The bottom line. Obviously we're going to
be promoting Jewish marriages and Jewish babies and all that
fun stuff. But you know we can't. We could never
say no to anybody that wants to party with the Jews.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Oh, because I will say, Jewish men make great husbands,
great husbands. Actually, any religious community you know who, there's
not one religion out there that preaches sex, drugs and
rock and roll. It's all about clean living, family value.
So but you know, you meet with a little cocktail
and a miniskirt apparently Britain. Thank you so much for
(08:16):
joining us. You can people can go to mot Soball
m A t z O b A l L mootsoball
dot org get your ticket. Thanks for joining us, and
that brings the Doctor Wendywall Show to a close. Next week,
I want to talk about Christmas holidays, getting together with
the family, and you know so often we talk about
(08:37):
trauma and having to deal with your family again. Next week,
I want to talk about happy families and how wonderful
it is to get together and what you can do
to make it a great holiday experience. Thanks for joining us.
