Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI Am six forty.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Mister mo Kelly here with mister Nick polyo' keiny as
we find out what the hell he's been up to? Nick,
What have you been up to?

Speaker 3 (00:12):
I've been up to a lot, in fact, as I
got to jump in and be the disembodied voice last segment.
If you want to learn more about the poultryg Heist House,
you can always check out the podcast when it gets
posted for Later with mo Kelly, or you can go
to link in bio at this week of a Nick
or Nick pollio'keaney. I've got all the details of how
you can go and live out your poultritgic icet dreams
or I know that you don't want to, no, sir,

(00:34):
I'm just saying I've got options for you. So, but
checking out what's been going on for me? And I
kind of teased it a little bit last week, but
summer ween is in full effect. And the question that
a lot of people ask is, Okay, this is a
ridiculous term. I don't understand, but why are Halloween things
coming out right after the fourth of July? Well, actually,
you have one of my favorite companies a Walt Disney

(00:54):
company to think for that. Back in twenty twelve on
Disney Channel, Gravity Falls, which is a really entertaining animated series,
had a fictional holiday that was known as Summer Weeen,
and it took place on June twenty second, the second
to last Friday of June, usually somewhere in that ballpark.
And even though that is something that was not heavily

(01:15):
focused on, it is something that more and more people
have kind of glammed onto over glommed onto over the years,
and so this year especially, and you can see I
am wearing my Midsummer Scream attire and I have already
got my spooky If you're visiting or following us on
mister Mokelly on YouTube, or if you're with us on Facebook,
or if you're on Instagram, you can say I got
my scared Mickey hat on. A lot of things actually

(01:38):
kicking off this weekend. So Midsummer Scream is an event
that I talked about every year, and it's amazing it's
in Long Beach, but it really for a good number
of years, almost fifteen years, was the start of the
Halloween season in the south Land because it's Halloween, Horror
and Haunt and it takes place at the Convention Center.

(01:59):
You can still get tickets and you can get all
the details about it on social media. This week of
a Nick or Nick Polliochini. But it is one of
those things where you get a lot of previews. Now,
this year's been really different and interesting, and I only
say that because more and more conventions are happening around
the country that are covering all these details. So used
to be John Murdy, who's the creative director with Universal

(02:21):
Studios Hollywood, would always tease all the mazes and the
haunts and the Scara zones that were coming to Universal Studios. Well,
if you follow him on social media, you follow Universal Studios,
you can see that they pretty much have announced everything,
including Blumhouse's fifteenth anniversary, celebrating that with a special edition
Terror Tram, and all of the different mazes have been

(02:43):
released for Universal Studios. But Midsummer Scream used to be
the kickoff for at least the South Land of everything
Halloween based. Pretty much anything that goes bump in the
night would start out here and it used to be
smacked down in the middle of July. It's kind of
moved around here and there, but summer ween this year,
if you go to Michael's, if you go to any
of the craft stores, hobby lobby, even to a certain extent,

(03:03):
you're already seeing the Halloween stuff out, and Michaels has
had a really unique series of things available for you
because it's all been Halloween based, and even back to
the Gravity Falls reference, obviously, pumpkins aren't in season during
the summer, so it was watermelons and pineapples and larger
melons and fruits that were carved to bea the Jack

(03:24):
of Lanterns. But for Midsummer Scream you can head down
to the Convention Center in Long Beach. Tickets are still
available for Friday, which is great. It's right after work,
head on down. So much fun happening for that six
until ten pm. And then on Sunday you can also
check it out that's open. There are VIP tickets still
available for the entire weekend. The weekend passes have sold out.
They're very, very popular and you can check out so

(03:46):
much so. Some of the things that will be happening
are live podcasts that have to do around maybe Poultergeist
or something fun about people that are haunting and doing
things in that effect. But also you'll be able to
see what's coming to not Scary Farm, You'll be able
to see fright Fest and six Flag is Magic Mountain,
all the different things that are happening. But also even
cooler is home Haunts. So if you follow me on

(04:08):
social media, you've seen how I deck my house out
for the holiday season, both Halloween and Christmas. Lots of inflatables,
lots of decorations. But this gives you that opportunity to
really get out there and kind of immerse yourself a
little bit early. Plus, what they do have is Hall
of Shadows, which is about two acres worth of mini haunts,
so a lot of them are either presented. Lionsgate will

(04:29):
be there and having a horror from Lionsgate Films represented
the second year that they've done this. Also, you'll have
a lot of the local home haunts that will have
small representations of what you can expect come September or
October when the Halloween season does go into full effect. Now,
not just this weekend is their Midsummer Scream happening in
Long Beach, but it is incredible to think that Halloween

(04:51):
time as of not this Friday, but next Friday will
officially be descending on the Disneyland Resort. Now I will
be getting a special preview because I will be attending
the very first night of Ogie Boogie Bash, which is
the special after hours Disneyland after Dark event that happens
a good number of nights, starting really early this year,
the seventeenth Sunday of August and then going all the

(05:14):
way straight on through until the thirty first for of October,
so all the way through Halloween. And this is where
you get to experience things from maybe a more so
villain's perspective from the Walt Disney Company, so Oki Boogie
if you're not familiar from Nightmare Before Christmas, he is
the leader of the pack and he really takes over
Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort. But you'll

(05:35):
be able to meet so many villains from so many
different films. This year, there will be two brand new
villains that will be joining the lineup. It looks like
it might be somebody from The Incredibles and from Pixar,
which is kind of cool. And also you'll have a
lot of returning folks. You'll have people from Agatha was
there and she will be back representing from Agatha all

(05:58):
along from Marvel. You'll have they had a zombie cap
from Marble back in the day. The only thing that
we don't have, which is a little surprising to me. Now, granted,
Disney Calviny Adventure Park does not have a lot of
Star Wars representation, but I am really surprised that we
haven't gotten like Darth Maul or any of the villains,
even just Darth Vader obviously, but you can always visit

(06:18):
them across the Esplanade over at Disneyland Park back on
Galaxy's Edge. You can go off plan and check that out.
So this weekend has a lot going on. Even if
you're looking for and I always try to focus on
free ninety nine things for us, Downtown Disney is going
to be the closest option for you there because you'll
be able to enjoy as of not this Friday, but
the following Friday, Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, which

(06:40):
includes live music, special installs. Right now, you can get
ready for Pluto's Pumpkin Pursuit, which is where you'll be
able to take and find a scavenger hunt of different
pumpkins that have been carved of Disney characters or painted
of Disney characters throughout the downtown area. So you don't
even need admission to go to the park. Sure it's
ten dollars for parking, but anymore that seems to be

(07:02):
kind of basic, and we're used to it, but it's
one of those opportunities because things really start changing and
there's a different magic in the air. It is hot
as hades, as we are well aware, especially as we
continue into and through August and September getting into October.
But it's really nice to have everything here and be
beginning that whole experience because the next I don't know

(07:25):
what's up with Nick's are going to be filled with
all sorts of things involving Halloween, Dark Harbor's returning to
the Queen Mary in Long Beach. We will also have
again fright Fest at six Flags, but I'll also be
heading up to Las Vegas and I'll be experiencing which
is opening this Thursday, is going to be Universal Horror
Unleashed and that is a brand new year round event

(07:48):
that happens at Area fifteen across from Las Vegas Strip.
So it's a lot going on. And I think as
we talked about with Poltergeist being you know, the house
being redone, there's this dogic element and there's something with
the world's scary enough as it is, if you will,
so being able to lean into something a little bit
more supernatural and maybe a little bit more fanciful seems

(08:10):
to kind of be where we're at right now.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Sounds like fun.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
I want you to go, I cannot go. The worst
part is I can get can you? Will you do
anything scary or just not the like the actual genuine
things like.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I'm not going to a house that is going to
scare the bejeezus out of me.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Okay, I won't take you to like seventeenth Door in
Orange County, which is one of those things we have
to sign your life away to go through the experience.
But like, have you ever done Universal Studios no horror Nights?

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Nope?

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Would you do?

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Nope?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Okay, nope, no sir?

Speaker 3 (08:41):
All right, looks like I'm stuck with you, Mark.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
I tell people I don't even watch horror movies anymore. Right,
the present iteration of horror movies, which is different from
poultry guys, what it was in nineteen eighty two. Now
it's like jump scares and things that just I don't
I don't need that on my heart. You just watched Weapons.
What are you talking about? That's not jump scares? It
really isn't okay, you've seen the movie Mark, It's not

(09:03):
jump scares. It's a horror film. It's not horror like
like like Megan or something like that with Gore and everything.
It's not okay.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
So you're looking for the psychological thriller. It's more aware. No, no, no,
I understand that for me. We were talking off air
and in the hallway. Sorry it wasn't on for everybody,
but talking about Poltergeist in both the Exorcists, like there's
so much mental around and there was. In fact, what
I do have a giveaway that I'm going to tease, Oh,
you had to stick around all the way through to
the end of what's up with the free Ish free

(09:32):
Ish free Ish?

Speaker 2 (09:34):
It's good.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
But I've got something and I'll talk about that a
little bit more. That definitely leans into the nostalgia gangle
that we're talking about, and some films that you know,
I think everybody here has seen, even Toawala, we were
talking not his favorite necessarily again horror films. But yeah,
so there's something one of a good friend of the show,
a good organization friend of the show has something special

(09:55):
that's coming up for seven weeks in a row, and
we've got to giveaway to share with that. Be sure
to stick around.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
More with Nick Poliochee in just a moment later with
Mo Kelly. If I am six forty live everywhere yar
Heart Radio app.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
k if I am six.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Forty, what's up?

Speaker 3 (10:19):
What?

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Thanks? What's up?

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Key?

Speaker 4 (10:36):
What kay?

Speaker 3 (10:38):
If I am six forty more stimulating talk you're listening
to later with Mo Kelly, I'm Nick polio Channy. Part
two of What's Up with Nick? Going down for you
in the south Land. We already talked about summer ween
and Halloween things underway, but let's go into a little
bit more, maybe a bit softer for you. Uh And
this is something We've been talking about a couple of
weeks here, So I'm gonna go a little bit deeper

(10:58):
died because I actually did get out to the Orange
County Fair and it is the final weekend, meaning that
starting tomorrow Wednesday through Sunday will be the wrap up
for this year's edition of the Orange County Fair. Find
you're happy. It started back in July and runs all
the way through the seventeenth. But this is one of
those things that it is at. It's in Coast to Mesa,

(11:18):
which if you are familiar with that heading down the
four oh five, let me be the traffic reporter briefly
with you. Four h five at the fifty five heading
south on the fifty five tour Newport Beach coming out
of the Santa Ana area, not too far from South
Coast Plaza, which is one of the places that we
talked about earlier here on later with mo Kelly. But
the OC Fair, while it is just a massive parking
lot truly, that is in the middle of Coast to Mesa,

(11:41):
what they've done is really make something special. And they
do the same at the Ella County Fair over in Pomona,
and they've also done the same down at the Delmar
Fairgrounds in San Diego. But specifically for the OC Fair,
I went to one of the more unique exhibits that
was there that was dedicated to what used to be
the Santa Ana Army Air Base, and that is Heroes

(12:02):
Hall that you can go visit.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Now.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
This is something here on KFI we always focus on veterans,
and it was really unique to be able to see
a spot. In fact, even more so if you're in
a baseball Jodomaggio was stationed here in southern California during
World War Two and that was something I had no
idea about. But so Heroes Hall is something that is
available year round. It's just outside of the Pacific Amphitheater,

(12:24):
which is the outdoor music venue and kind of entertainment
venue that you can enjoy there. But it also has
lots of air conditioning, great bathrooms. But you get to
learn about exactly how this area, the OC Fairgrounds used
to be this specific spot where the airbase used to be.
In fact, just north of where you see the fair
and grounds now is where the actual airstrip was. And

(12:45):
so it's interesting to think that in the middle of
Orange County we have such a historical connection with World
War One, World War two, Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
All of those have had certain tie ins to Orange County.
But the fair is pretty much our local. I mean,
even the Ventura Fair just wrapped up past weekend. This

(13:06):
is the end for us here in Orange County. They
have so much going on and it's really fun. I
took my cousins have Some of the cousins were in
from Pennsylvania, so that was kind of fun to be
able to show them around. But going to the Orange
County Fair because of the ocean breezes coming in from Newport,
it's really nice, even though it is hot. It's hot,

(13:27):
but you've got five dollars tastes of the fair before
four o'clock any day Monday through Sunday or sorry, Wednesday
through Sunday. Monday and Tuesday, the fair is closed. Wednesday
through Sunday is when you'll be able to visit. But
it's cool to go into some of the pavilions that
have competitions. So Mondo, who used to be here with
KFI with his famous guacamole, he has competed at the

(13:49):
Orange County Fair. He's done Ella County Fair, Orange County Fair,
San Diego County Fair, and a couple other competitions. But
it's so cool to go and see exactly what people
are doing in our own backyard and really be able
to connect with that. So I encourage you if you're
looking for something to wrap up your summer experience before
the kids go back, or maybe even if the kids
are back and you want that one little break before

(14:09):
things get a little too crazy. OC Fair is a
great opportunity for that. If you're looking for a date night,
you may want to head over into Long Beach because
the Museum of Latin American Art on Wednesdays has been
doing a dance class, So that is something that you
can go and check out, not just the museum itself,
but you can also check out a really fun activity

(14:30):
to do in the evening on Wednesdays. Bachata is this
week and then it continues into and through September. I
was messaging with Mario in the chat room the Momigos
on YouTube for later with mo Kelly or mister Mokelly
on YouTube, and we were talking about Splash House, which
is a unique music festival that's happening this weekend, is
weekend two, and it is in Palm Springs, which seems

(14:50):
to be between Coachella and Stagecoach and everything else, but
this one actually takes place at four different venues, three
of them being resorts and specifically at the pool. So
even though so it is real hot in the Palm
Springs area, you've got a way to cool off, not
just the beats, but also hop in the pool. And then,
as I teased before, something really fun for me. As

(15:11):
we've kind of already talked about horror films here a
Nightmare on Elm Street. All seven films in the collection
have been re released in four K, and our friends
at the Alamo Draft House in downtown LA have offered
us two sets of tickets for you to either be
able to check this out or any other show that
is going on down there. The thing that's exciting about

(15:33):
this one two Freddy's coming for you is if you're
a fan of horror films, if you want to get
that summer ween in effect a Nightmare on Elm Street,
you'll be able to starting on August twenty ninth, so
the last Wednesday of the month, and for the seven
subsequent Wednesdays, you'll actually be able to head to the
Alamo Draft House in downtown LA and experience the full

(15:56):
four K re representation preach, I should say, Nightmare on
Alm the Street. So you've got all seven films in it,
So yeah, I think it's a lot of there's a
lot of stuff going on, and I'm really excited to
bring you guys so much more. So don't you have
something to give away? Oh yeah, two tickets. Two sets
of tickets.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
You're ready to give away?

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Oh yeah, Well let's give them away, all right, boy.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
So let's take callers five and six. I know what
I'm doing. I'm just waiting for you to know. No, I
got it, all right, So there's that. Uh, And I'll
catch you next week Caller five for the six, and
you will win two tickets each. So each five, caller five,
collor six, you'll get two tickets to go check out
either this or anything else at Alamo Draft House in
downtown La.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Caller five, caller six, you and a guest Alamo Draft
House two tickets.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
