Speaker 1 (00:00):
OK, I am six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio
app Tiffany Hobbs here with You. Saturdays with Tiffany is
well underway, and I am so excited for our next
conversation because to me, it's something that we all can
benefit from. It's something that we all deal with at

(00:21):
some point or another, and we all have looked for
alternatives to making sure that we can lower this thing,
and this thing, this big looming thing, is stress. We
have the founder of Newcom, mister Jim Pool on the line,
and before I bring him on, I want to tell

(00:41):
you his biography because it is extensive and he deserves
for you guys to know why he did this, where
this comes from Newcom. Let me tell you a little
bit about Jim Pool, founder of this stress management app.
Jim Pool is an accomplished business executive with exc extensive
experience in the healthcare, biotech, medical, medical, financial services, market

(01:08):
research and IT industries.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Who that is a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
And even with all of that, even as busy as
he is, Jimpool manages the strategic direction and ongoing operations
of Newcom, which is a neuroscience company focused on evidenced
based personalized wellness and performance. And I downloaded Newcom today
and did day one of the meditation. I almost didn't

(01:35):
make it to work because I was so relaxed, But
once I got here, I was sharp as a tech.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Hi Jim Pool, welcome to KFI.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Hi Eron, thanks for having me. And that was quite
a mouthful of history. Fifty five years on this planet.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Fifty five years.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
You're almost old enough to box at this point, if
you know, if you want to get in the ring
with Mike Tyson there, you're almost old enough to do that.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
If you call what we watched last night boxing, it
was more more dancing or a pillow fight.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
It was a little bit of that, right.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I think he definitely would have benefited or could benefit
from Newcom today. He needs some stress management perhaps, so
tell us a little bit about your company, where it
came from. What motivated you to create this stress management
app in a land that's filled with stress management alternatives?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
What brought about Newcom.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
My goodness, What brought about Newcom was the desire by
a very bright quantum physicist to solve the problem of
complex trauma. So the traumatized brain often finds relief in
the forms of alcohol, and addiction and there has to
be a better way. So this journey began in nineteen
ninety and it took this esteemed quantum physicist nineteen years

(02:51):
of his life to figure out, how can I find
a way to naturally slow down and quiet the mind
of someone who's constantly stressed. So it came from there,
and then in two thousand and nine, our company launched
a complicated FDA classroom medical device to solve that problem,

(03:12):
mostly with trauma victims and veterans coming out of the
theater of war. So it's been a long journey, and
the journey has always been focused on the mission to
liberate you, me and everybody from stress because we have
it every day, sometimes every minute. And when we do that,
it allows us the opportunity to think clearer, be healthier,

(03:35):
live longer, have more resilience, but also sleep better. So
that's where we came from. We came from medical absolutely.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
So you said you launched in two thousand and nine?
Am I correct? Did I get that right? And so
we're talking what now? Nine?

Speaker 1 (03:50):
What is that fifteen years ago? Fifteen years What were
the challenges then that you were up against? Because trauma
informed care while while understood around the mental health or
within the mental health sphere. It was not necessarily something
that was generalized. People weren't completely understanding of what trauma

(04:11):
informed responses might be. So what challenges were you up
against in two thousand and nine when you were trying
to break into this industry.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Almost any challenge you can think of. Well, first of all,
we had to go through the arduous process of the
FDA Health Canada. We went through military approval and NSS
certified for sport, and we did this by bringing in
fifty two of the world's leading doctors, academicians, and scientists,
all independent, and they helped us go down this path.
But what's interesting to me is that fifteen years ago,

(04:42):
no one was talking about stress and sleep and anxiety
and mental health. And so a lot of this had
to do with one simple principle. If I go and
I'm struggling, and I go see a psychiatrist, a psychotherapist,
the only thing that they had at their disposal it
was a narcotic based pharmaceutical. But we know that that's
not helping solve the root cause. We know that that's

(05:06):
just putting a band aid on the symptoms and repressing
the challenges. So for us, it was really just a
matter of let us help you, it's safe, it's efficacious,
and give us some time. And the safe piece was
really important. But what's interesting, Tiffany is we didn't stay
in trauma. We went right into the medical sector of surgeries.

(05:30):
We looked at it. We looked at a cute stress
and said, you know what, we can solve long term
chronic trauma, but what about a cuge stress. So we
started in oral maximum facial surgery, and implant dentistry because
we've figured where do you create a crazy stress response
in a medical environment. Well, when you're an adult and
you're asked to lie in your back and open your

(05:51):
mouth and have a stranger put instruments in your mouth,
you have a panic response. Oh that's how we kind
of got through all the chaos and the ignorance and
naivety to the whole challenge of complex trauma.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Got it.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
So when you talk about stress, Jim, and we're with
Jim Pool, the founder of newcom when you talk about stress,
you set there are levels and you're speaking to acuity.
What are the other levels of stress that New Calm
responds to.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Okay, stress, this is great, and I hope your listeners
are listening well.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
They are they always.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
We all have the same circuitry of our brain, and
I think a lot of times we fall victim to
thinking that our problems our own and we're isolated, we're alone,
and we're detached, and it couldn't be further from the truth.
Your stress and the stressors in your life are unique
to you. There's no doubt. They're unique to me, There's
no doubt. But the physiological response inside of my brain,

(06:50):
and inside of your brain, and inside everybody's brain on
this earth is identical. So the key is how do
we go right to your midbrain, where the source of
the stress, and interrupt that response. It's really dealing with
the old part of our brain, the reptile part of
our brain that has not evolved to contemporary society. So

(07:12):
we go in to your brain through your ears and
we gently guide your brain wave up or down like
a thermostat. So we solve any stress, from the most complex, panicked,
suicidal stress to the everyday agitation, confusion, distracted stress.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
We've been talking to Jim Pool, founder of the stress
management app newcom and that's in you clm in you calm.
This interview has been so enlightening because I get stressed out.
You might get stressed out. We all experience varying degrees

(07:53):
of stress. And Jim Poole, the founder of Newcom, has
been very explicit in being able to detail why Newcom
responds to stress and what makes it different. And we
were just about to get into what makes new comm
different from other apps and how does Newcom use brain

(08:14):
waves to guide And I'll let you explain the science
behind everything what makes newcom so successful?

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Wonderful? Well, thank you, You're welcome. In a single word,
we can differentiate how we're unique, it's called science science.
We are not an app company. For thirty one years,
we were a neuroscience company doing neuroscience. But the challenge
to bring a six thousand dollars complicated, four component medical

(08:43):
device to the masses is an impossibility. So seven years
ago we began a journey to say there must be
a way for us to simplify this and bring this
to the masses. And in November of twenty twenty one,
we successfully transitioned this complicated medical device to a mobile app. Now,
if I said to you, hey, you're stressed out, of
course you are. We're heading into the holidays more stress.

(09:05):
Are you're sleeping well, of course you're not. Stress and
sleep are incompatible. We don't understand this, but we know
when we're stressed out, we don't sleep well. How would
you like to have access to Just three years ago
was an exclusive six thousand dollars medical device that was
only for the Department of Defense, the FBI, the veteran community, doctors, pilots,
and professional athletes. And now you can get this through

(09:28):
the mobile app fors those fifty cents a day. That's
what we've accomplished in the last few years so that
we can extend and expand access to this technology. How
does this work? There are two ways to trick or
pace or guide brain wave function and the human brain.
Your brain, in my brain oscillates in a range of

(09:49):
forty one hertz. Many of your listeners have probably heard
of delta. Delta is the slowest wave form. It's the
slowest frequency, zero point five hurts. Then Theta is a
little faster, and that's still in sleep. And then alpha's
a little faster and it's still in sleep. So three
of the five categories of our brain is in sleep.
Then we have beta and gamma. Well we figure out

(10:12):
over thirty years is if we present the brain with
a signal using physics in math and algorithms in software,
and use your ears as a carrier, we can gently
guide you to a place of health or sleep or healing.
That's what we did. We don't know how the brain works.
Most of us go around this life and we get

(10:33):
caught up in our own head and there's a lot
of distraction between our ears and we're in constant state
of agitation or triggered or social media, whatever's happening.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Tim are you and are you in my living room
with me?

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Do you?

Speaker 2 (10:43):
How did you know that?

Speaker 3 (10:47):
So what people think is music music cannot change the
state of a human brain. That it's impossible. Why because
your brain is really complicated and your brain's always looking
for patterns. So if you were in having a bad day,
a low energy day, and you put on some dance music,
it's awesome. It elevates your mood, but it's fleeting. That

(11:10):
elevation of your mood goes away in ten or fifteen
minutes when your brain figures out, Wait a second, all
these songs sound the same on bored Oh, Yeah, what
we do has nothing to do with music. The music
for us is a carrier to create a nice experience
for you. But our tech is all built around software.
There is one to two gigabytes of information underneath the music.

(11:33):
In each track, you put headphones on, and within a
few minutes, we take your hand and we say, hey, Tiffany,
you're having a tough day. Let's slow your brain wave
down into theta. Let's quiet your mind. Let's synchronize your
heart and your lungs. Let's slow down your respiration, and
let's levitate you in this kind of lucid dream state.
And you're going to stay there for twenty or thirty

(11:56):
minutes while your body gets to heal and restore. Oh,
then you get up and guess what, all those little
agitation problems they're not agitation problems anymore. You're clear headed,
your heart feels good, you feel grounded. You feel like, Wow,
I have peace of mind and clarity, and I actually
have some symblans of control over my thoughts. I feel better.

(12:19):
Little things aren't bothering me. You notice like you wake
up and you're having a bad day, and you know
Murphy's law, things happen in three eies and two bad
things happen early on, you're like, oh my god, it's
going be a terrible day. Your brain's looking for that
third thing. Your brain, when we're in the stress response,
looks for more stress, looks for more triggers. We're going
to stop all of that, and we do it with ease.

(12:41):
You give us twenty or thirty minutes and allow our
neuroscience to help you heal and restore every single day.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
So, if like me, you're sold on this, because I
definitely downloaded the app.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
I read the description.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
I want to manage my stress, and I want to
do it in in a healthy way, in a responsible way,
in a way that does not subject me to anything
that might be harmful to myself.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
If you're like me, Jim, what should you do?

Speaker 1 (13:12):
If you haven't yet downloaded the app? Where should people go?
How should how did they access this information?

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Should they?

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I know there's a free trial? Would you recommend the trial?
What should they do next?

Speaker 3 (13:24):
Yes? So go to Newcolm dot com and you see
alm Peru's the website. There's a lot of information, there's videos,
there's documents, there's research, whatever suit your fancy. The free
trial is brilliant because it's curated seven days and it
walks you through Hey, today, we want you to try Rescue.
Why because it's the key therapy for newcom We all

(13:44):
have stress and we're going to manage your stress with
no harm. Today give us twenty minutes. Then at night
our most popular track and we're doing one point four
to one point five million minutes a day around the world.
And our top track is not a surprise. It's called
Deep Sleep because most of us have sleep issues. You

back to sleep. So go to the website, download the
free trial. There's video assets, there's all this ways to
learn about what we're doing. But really this is an experience.

(14:26):
these things are unique to you. See how our technology
fits into your day. And if you use Rescue each day,
in deep Sleep each night, within a few days, you'll
begin to think like a monk and act like a capitalist,
and act like a mom and act like a dad.
And act like a pilot and act like a student.
But your mind is getting sharp and healthy, and you

(14:49):
begin to put yourself back in control of the thought
patterns that you want, not to which you're a crazy
reptile part of your brain wants and dictates.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
I feel sharper talking to you already, Jim, I really do.
Thank you so much for being with us again. Please
go on new Calm dot com in you c lm
dot com, try that free curated seven day trial. I'm
in the middle of now day two. I can tell
you I feel the effects. I feel sharper. I really do,

(15:21):
not just saying this. I feel good. I came in
today and my super producer Kayla said, you look different,
you look this, you look that, And I attribute it
that to New Calm. That's the newest additive to my routine.
So I thank you for that, Jim Pool, and for
everything you're doing.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Tiffany, thank you, Thank your audience, and take care of yourselves.
We're heading in the holidays, a lot of stress. Take
care of you, wonderful.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Thank you, Jim.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
When we come back, we're going to talk a bit

La County some new permits that are underway, as well
as why people are leaving X perhaps it's stress, and
