Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's say good morning now to doctor Memet Oz, who
is the new head of the Medicare program under the
Trump administration. Good morning, doctor.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Oz, Good morning Amy. It's a good day to celebrate
because it's open enrollment, which, for folks who may not know,
is the month and a half period where you get
to go back into your Medicare dot gov site or
you call one one hundred Medicare if it's easier for you,
and find out what's changed over the last year, whether
you should be altering what kinds of coverage you're getting

(00:31):
from this crown jewel of our country safety that program.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Okay, so see, I.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Was going to just say we're celebrating because of the
Dodger win, but we can celebrate Medicare too.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
So let's talk to doctor Oz.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Tell us who needs to do this, Like, if you
already have it, do you need to do it again?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Or if this is your first year, what do you
need to do?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Well first year folks, And I am a first year person.
I just turned sixty five. We have a special opportunity
to go in and choose the plans we desire. But
for most Americans, you should between now and December to seventh,
go to medicare dot gov, or if you prefer to
talk to somebody, you can cally eight hundred Medicare and
ask simple questions about whether the policy that you currently

(01:10):
have is the best one for you, and you can
save hundreds of dollars. You can do this wisely, and
if you're smart, you'll actually log into the site, you
get an account. It's the government's trying to help you
with this program that was designed sixty years ago to
make sure that you're getting the best coverage from the
right doctors and you get the best pricing on your
medications as well. Because the world is changing quickly and

(01:32):
we're changing, you know, new ailments, different medications, You maybe
want different doctors, or even if you want everything stay
the same, you still have differences in pricing that you
should pay attention to. Some of the prescription plans have
actually dropped in price. You might save somebody there. But
certainly we have new functionalities now we have a doctor finder,
so it will help you make sure your doctor's and

(01:53):
your plan. We have ways of deciding and help you
figure out what's the best plan for the medications you're
rotch take advantage of these due tools, and every year
we rolled out new stuff taking and you want to
know what those new things are. So again, Medicare dot
Gov over what eight hundred medicare Okay, And you.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Said there's different levels of coverage, so like if you're
relatively healthy, healthy, you can say, oh I don't maybe
I don't need that.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
So it's not like a one size fits all for everybody.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
The big difference I have to say is between traditional Medicare,
the one that sixty years ago was the initial version,
and a newer managed care version, a holistic version that
was created about fifteen years ago that allows people it's
called Medicare advantage, that allows them to get discounted pricing,
but they get some rebates and other tools that might

(02:39):
be financially valuable for them as well. There's not a
better or worse coverage, but it doesn't matter depending on
who you are, because sometimes you'll get a better deal
with one or the other, and you want to know
what those options are. You're going to get inundated with
people are calling you commercials from private companies trying to
get you on board. Some of these companies are actually
a pretty good match for you, but we don't know that,

(03:00):
so before you talk to those folks, you ought to
come to medicare dot gov. Talk to your government who's
actually trying to pull the information into one spot. So
without anyone trying to sell you anything, just inform you
about what your options are. And then when you actually
start talking to these different folks, you'll be a smarter
consumer and imagine us as a clearing house of information.
And again, if you prefer to talk to someone wenty

(03:21):
one hundred, Medicare is trusted information. We're not interested in
selling you anything. We just want to make sure you
know what your options are so you take advantage of
the spectacular program.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Okay, I think that's a really important point, doctor as
because I know that, like you said, you're going to
start seeing all these ads and I remember them from
last year where you're just like, do I have to
go through that company or can I go directly to
medicare dot gov.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
So you're saying the good starting point is to go there.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
You should always come to medicare. You should always come
to medicare dot gov first. It's the right place to
start because you want information and you can take action
with us as well. But no matter what else you
may want to do. By coming to us, you take
advantage of the newest advances that we have made to
try to customize advice for you. So again, if you
make an account for yourself, we can share with you,

(04:08):
based on what we know about what medications you're on,
and what issues you're struggling with in your health, what
ideas you might want to pay attention to. In some cases,
you may want to take a Medicare advantage plan, which
again is like a managed care version of Medicare because
of the additional things they can give you. In other instances,
because you travel a lot, because of the things you're
struggling with, you may be better off of traditional Medicare.

(04:28):
So get all your options out there. Get smart, and
this is I think core to preventing illness because you
know it's not just about eating right exercise. Those are
fundamentally important. But if you do have an illness, which
you know, luck and babbits and the other reasons for
accidents may cause you to have issues that you wouldn't
have predicted, then you want to make sure that you

(04:49):
have all the tools right there in front of you.
And we work hard in this country to provide a
social station that for our seniors. But if you don't
take advantage of it, if you don't get smart about
how to do prophylactic steps to make sure you're covered,
then you know it's a problem when you do get sick.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Okay, and it's open through December seventh, but you're saying,
don't wait till December seventh to get this going, like
get this ball rolling now.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
You got to make a final decision by December seventh.
And this is a pretty important choice. Who's going to
be your insurance coverage group and which are these options
are best for you? And it does make a financial
difference for folks who are listening. If you care about
a couple hundred dollars, and most of us do, then
there is no defensible reason not to go to Medicare
dot gov now and find out what your options are.

(05:32):
Then you can sort of let it, you know, percolate
your mindful a little while before you make your final
decision on December seventh, okay.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
And then doctor als.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
That's a great reminder, And of course it's Medicare dot
gover you can call one eight hundred medicare. I saw
you with the President yesterday. He seems to like to
have his team around him. Are you having fun in
your new position?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I mean, this is the best job I've ever had,
and I've had some great jobs. I have an art surgeon,
and I hosted the TV show, as you know. But
I loved working for the president because he is not
going to be held back and he will actually call
you frequently and to remind you of things that you're
supposed to be doing, and he'll open up pathway. Yes,
the most important thing he does for us in the
government is he breaks the silos down. Yesterday's announcement brought

(06:14):
Department of Labor, Department Commerce, Helping Human Services, different agencies
together in order to create a new fertility benefit for
the American people. And as everyone probably appreciates, our fertility
numbers are down, a lot of Americans one in free
families want to have more babies. So we want to
make that easier by more affordable. So we negotiated most
favorite dation pricing. We've dropped the price of the most

(06:35):
common fertility drugs that are thousands of dollars per cycle
in half. And this is again a win for everybody.
And I don't care what party you're in in America,
we need to support families that want to have more babies.
This is a great way of doing it.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Okay, doctor Mama Oz.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Thank you so much for your time and the information,
and I hope you keep having fund.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Bless you and good luck to your Dodgers, my son
and laws, the big Dodgers man. I don't know why,
but I have to support them.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
I love it, doctor Oz, thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
