(00:21):
Ms. Dana Hernandez Dana. Itis good to see you, and

your service. I'm well, thankyou for inviting me. I didn't know
that you would be available on aday like this because I know that you
have those weekends in which you havetraining. I don't know where you go.
You just disappear. What do youdo, hey, go to the

(00:42):
base in Riverside County and is itsomething that can be high stressed? Give
me just a little bit of insight. Not my job. My job is
you know, comfortable. But youknow this month we have off because we
did two days in June, soI get to enjoy it with my family

(01:03):
and friends. And thank you forinviting me to your home. I appreciate
that. Yeah, when people couldn'tsee you or are you Instagram Live right
now, I don't know is sheInstagram. She's on TikTok oh okay okay,
TikTok Live. But they couldn't seewe're playing the end of the Star
Spangled Banner or renditioned by take six. You were saluting, what does service

(01:26):
mean to you? Well, Ican't put it in just like one word.
It's it's actually more than that.I feel like service to me feels
like it's an honor. And Idon't know, I just get like goosebumps
when you are a part of youknow, something meaningful and bigger than yourself.
So for me, it's just like, you know, it's deeper than

(01:49):
just one word. Part of thereason I wanted to ask those questions because
today is today of many days tohave that conversation. But you're a multifaceted
individual. You're also producing for WakeUp Call with Amy King, and I
think your military background comes into playbecause there's no way in the world I
want to get up at two thirtyin the morning to produce a radio show.

(02:13):
How do you do it every singleday? Well, fortunate for me,
I get to work from home.Oh there's the magical and I do
have discipline. And I am anearly bird, so you know, I
wake up early, and it's notit's something that you're trained to do and
it becomes a lifestyle afterwards. Iknow that you are coming up on a
milestone. Your birthday is tomorrow.Do you have any plans? I do

(02:38):
have plans. I have Okay,So I'm gonna do this head spall massage
where they like massage your head andlike it's just just TikTok it. It's
like pretty great, Okay, andI'm gonna do that head massage. That's
what I need to head spa massage. I'm writing it down head spa.
Yes. And then I have lunchand then I'm going to do top golf

(03:00):
with my friends. Oh. Topgolf is cool. It's cool. I'm
horrible at it, but it's it'sfun. No, it's fun. I'm
just not good at it, andthat's that's the beauty of it. Yeah,
it's not like real golfing because realgolfing it can be real embarrassing.
People are waiting for you. Youknow. I'm like, my handicap is
forty five. So yeah, andso we're gonna have drinks, We're gonna
have food, it's gonna be fun. Kayla's gonna go, oh, producer

(03:22):
Kayla from Soul cal Saturday. Yeah, my favorite person. So she's gonna
go. And then you know, usually I travel for her birthday. So
that's why I haven't been, youknow, around for your Fourth of July
celebration. No. I thought itwas like, you're personally ducky me.
So you've been invited, but younever showed up. I was like,
oh, you should have told mesooner. It's like I gave you three
months, don't. Yeah, wellI'm here this year. I'm like,

(03:45):
you know, I wanted to spendtime with you guys and see how you
guys celebrate dessert contests and all that. I think i've known you about maybe
three years now. How long haveyou been at CAFI? Yeah, like
two and a half and a halfyears. Okay, and when I first
no, but when I first metyou, you had expressed desire to do
more than just radio. But howwould you characterize your time in radio that

(04:08):
you've been here at least two anda half years, because I'm quite sure
it probably is very different now thanwhen you first started, as far as
you're like taking a liking to it. I mean radio has been I think
it's more than just radio. Youknow. I feel like I've definitely grown
and came so far and gotten, you know, out of my comfort and

(04:28):
challenge myself, and you know,I think you can definitely take the skills
wherever you go. You know, before I remember I was really shy on
the radio, really shy, andnow I get no. I I was
telling you during the breaks, likeI learned more about you in the past
two hours that you've been here,in the past two and a half years
that we've been around each other atthe office. So I appreciate that.
And I'm going to ask you, like I asked if Pouliocheia and I asked

(04:51):
to all Sharp previously, what aresome of your memories or traditions growing up
when you think about Fourth of Julyor Independence Day. Yeah, I mean
fourth of July because it ties intomy birthday. It just like you know,
it was just something that we alwaysdid for family. But now as

(05:11):
an adult, it's just like you'reon your own pretty much, so you
have to start your new traditions andyour own celebrations. So now it's just
like I think it's definitely something youspend with people that you care about.
Let's let's bring it all together.Part of your life has been the military,
but you, as you acknowledge, you're going on to more of the

(05:32):
adult portion of your life, findingnew traditions. How much longer do you
think you'll serve in the military beforeyou move on to your next chapter or
your lifer. I told myself aswhen I get married, I am,
I think that's it. Gonna focuson other things, all right, So,

(05:54):
oh so there might be someone outthere for you. Maybe. No.
I always kid Dana because she isnotoriously private, super duper private,
So anything that she reveals is newinformation to me. It's like, really,
you know, as followers, Iknew you were married with four kids
because you don't let anybody know anything. So I feel honored that you actually

(06:16):
told this to me and told onehundred thousand people listening right now. Well,
thank you for asking. And shewon't be coming back for the next
ten years. I can tell bythe look on her face. When we
come back, I'll be joined onthe show. Who's going to come up
next? Well, who are goingto talk to next? Okay, let's
talk to Tiffany Hobbs. Of theViral Load. She's next here on Later

(06:39):
with Mo Kelly. It's Chateau leMo Independence Day, Happy Birthday America.
You're listening to Later with Mo Kellyon demand from KFI AM six forty forty.
Yes Later with Mo Kelly. We'relive everywhere in the iHeartRadio app as
we continue our broadcast for Independence Day, Happy Birthday America from Chateau and joining

(07:00):
me right now with Tiffany Hobbs, who has the Viral Load on Later with
Mo Kelly each Wednesday at ten pm, and she's also now a personality on
KFI AM six forty And Tiffany, this is the first time you've come to
Chateau le Mo and these festivities.Thank you for coming out tonight and welcome.
How are you doing tonight? Thankyou for inviting me, Mo.
I've long heard about these festivities,so I'm glad to be here for my

(07:25):
first, my inaugural time at yourhome for this beautiful event. I'm doing
great, you want You're not toofar from here, are you. I'm
in Koreatown, but I grew upabout ten minutes south of here. I'm
familiar with your area and we weretalking off air earlier about how this area
just ten years ago used to beone big mound of dirt where horses were

(07:46):
kept. Actually, and I usedto ride horses with some people who owned
stables in Compton, and they wouldalso stable their horses right here on your
land. What is your connection toanimals? I follow you on social media.
You're pretty knowledgeable about animals. Youhave some very interesting pets. Let
me get out of the way youtell the story. I just grew up
watching Disney movies, and every animalthat was in a Disney movie for me

(08:11):
with someone or someone literally, Igave them that personification who I connected with.
And in real life, I justhave a lot of empathy for animals,
and I find them to be fascinatingand I love to be with them,
help them, and just enjoy themas much as I can. I've
been that way since I was little. I used to bring home any and
everything to my mom and be undermy bed in a box, and she'd

(08:33):
find these critters and I would keepthem. And you know, I had
pets galore, and I just Ilove them. What pets do you have
now? I have two dogs likeyou. I have a Chihuahua who's at
home. He's very good with fireworksand very calm, opposite of a typical
chihuahua. And I have a terrierwho is a very interesting specimen. I

(08:54):
love him dearly. I think hemight not like me as much as I
like him, though, So yeah, Fourth of July. Growing up,
What are some of your memories traditions? What is it you hold on to?
Oh Man sparklers in the front yard, those old school packages of fireworks
that were nine to ninety nine. Now they probably are triple that price for

(09:16):
the exact same thing, but justblack market, I know, black market,
oh gosh, but the ones youwould buy from the stands when they
were legal in most of the city. And just standing in the front yard
with these sparklers and watching neighbors lightup the Roman candles and the other things
exactly all of those, the screamingones, and just being with family and

(09:39):
having a meal. We didn't doa big cookout like you're doing tonight,
but just the idea of coming togetherand watching the kids. I was a
kid at the time, celebrate thefun of fireworks. Shout out to Bloodsoe's
Barbecue, who catered tonight's festivitis.Oh so good. Yeah, I'm North
Librea, so Bloodshoe's has long supportedeverything that we've done. It's important that

(10:01):
I shout them out as well.Tonight you're gonna stay for the fireworks.
Yeah, you've heard the stories ofthe fireworks. I don't have a sparkler
to give to you, but Ihope that you get a chance to go
up to the top of the hilland see the three sixty panoramic view of
the fireworks. Totally looking forward toit. I know when you're driving down

(10:22):
Los Angeles freeways like the one tenor the four h five on Fourth of
July evenings, you can see fireworksas far as the eye can see.
I'm not on the freeway tonight.I'm here at Chateau lemo Lem, and
I'm really looking forward to getting ontop of that hill out there and seeing
what your neighborhood has to offer. Now you acknowledged that this is the first

(10:45):
time that you've been here. Yes, legally, I may have passed by
knowing that you were in the area. Look, okay, I'm a fan
as well. How did you Whatdid you think of the familial atmosphere here?
You know, I just everyone's beenso welcoming you feel like you're a

(11:07):
part of a huge family. I'vemet your cousins, I've met your friends,
I've met your beautiful wife, yourmother who's just just just sunshine,
and it's she's a handful. Igot to watch Moe's mom actually give him
a spanking in the kitchen because hewas misbehaving. And she actually thinks she
still has you bocked up. No, you backed up. I saw.

(11:30):
I didn't want to be disrespectful. There was fear. She evoked, fear
in you. I saw that forthe radio. It was fear, Hillary,
fear, shame on you. It'sbeen one big family, and like
it's I hope you can do thisfor many more years to come and in
between time as well, because thisis such a wonderful gathering place and I

(11:50):
look forward to coming back. I'mgoing to get in your business because that's
what I do. Aren't you engaged? I am? I am? He's
TJ is out there in your upthere. I don't know what you would
call that there. You're you haveso many rooms in this big home.
Come on, I don't know whatthat is. And one of the wings
over there, he was kind ofjust hanging out and taking a nap because
it's so comfortable here. Well, have you all picked a date yet?

(12:13):
No, we haven't picked date.I don't know what I'm wearing tomorrow,
let alone, but that I reallydon't. We're enjoying what we have right
now and as we you know,we continue that, then perhaps we'll set
a date. But right now,we're just going with the flow, no
pressure, because once you start thatprocess, that is so true. And
I remember that, and I rememberwhen I got engaged. We did not

(12:35):
rush to schedule. We were engagedfor more than a year. Yes,
because my wife La Muhir La noviaUt supposed to. She was saying,
I just want a minute to breathebefore we go into because once you start
that race, you have to runas fast as you can to the finish
line. You do, and Idon't want to lose sight of the beautiful,

(12:58):
you know, the whole idea whatmatrimony is because of the planning.
And I'm not really that great atplanning anyway. I'm one of those people
who really just wants to go tothe courthouse and keep it really simple.
Really, maybe use Chateau les Molater for a reception. Since you have
all these rooms, rooms, rooms, everywhere. I got lost up here

(13:20):
on the cement floor. To beserious, I would have thought that you
were more of the kind of I'monly going to do this once I've waited
a certain amount of time, soI want the big no. I'm saying
that I'm calling you patient in particulartwo different things. Oh, yes,
very pretture. I'm thinking that youwould want the big suare No. No
never been my thing. I wasn'tone of those uh, one of those

(13:41):
kids, one of those little girlswho stereotypically planned her wedding and knew what
she was going to wear. Ijust wasn't into that. I was outside
with the animals. You know,I'm one of those kids. So that's
That's never been my objective. Thoseare Those are dogs and the kids in
the background, those are I can'ttell you some of the adults. At
this point, we have a housefull of drunk people and dogs and kids

(14:03):
and yeah, you know there's alot going on right in stress. Yeah
there are enough people out there tohandle it. But yeah, but first
tifty hops, Congratulations on your additionto KFI, Congratulations on your engagement,
Congratulations for finally making it to ChateauLimo legally, thank you for all of
that. Thank you for all ofthat, and hopefully you'll be coming back
in many years in the future.I plan to and thank you for the

(14:24):
opportunities that you and Twala have givenme sightseeing and unseen. I owe it
all to you and I appreciate it. Thank you. All we can do
is hopefully open the door for someoneyou have to walk through and make sure
that you stay in the line.I'm running through, honey, running through
the door. You're listening to laterwith Moe Kelly on demand from KFI AM
six forty. Happy Birthday, Americais Independence Day. K if I AM

(14:50):
six forty. We're live everywhere onthe iHeartRadio app. And as we continue
our live broadcast and party, ohmy goodness from Chateau Remo, I had
to come up and do a liveread and I'll going to do another Instagram
live so you could just see thefun which was going on downstairs. They
had a dance competition and outside theillegal fireworks are really ramping up. You

(15:11):
may hear them in the background aswe go on through the show. It's
really starting to light up. Nopun intended, but it got me and
got you thinking to all about thefuture of illegal fireworks. I know in
some cities like Laguna, they're havinga traditional fireworks show and a drone show.
Some other cities are just doing drones. Some are i'll say, moving

(15:35):
away from fireworks altogether. And nowthere's a movement of foot to possibly stop
this influx of illegal fireworks into thestates. And I don't know how they're
going to do that. It's justsomething that has been going on for the
past thirty four forty years. It'sbeen legal for quite some illegal for quite
some time, but they haven't madea dent in it. What is it

(15:56):
I'm missing in this? Well, now I believe that Southern California is really
looking at taking a serious approach atstopping the flow of illegal fireworks into the
city. Because it's one thing tosay, hey, illegal fireworks, that's
a no no. But if they'reavailable, then how are you stopping it.

(16:18):
This new plan that the state isCalifornia in general is looking to set
up with New Mexico and Nevada primarilyis to actually stop the flow of illegal
fireworks into the state, and hopefullythat will be the thing. Hopefully that
will be what actually turns the tideand helps to curb you know, what

(16:40):
sounds like a war zone outside yourwindow. I'm really surprised because I thought
after a certain point there would havebeen just a law of diminishing returns,
where people got tired of losing theirfingers, people got tired of setting their
houses on fire, people got tiredof all the negative consequences of the use
of especially the dangerous and eagle fireworks. But it seems like it just doesn't

(17:02):
slow down, no, And itseems every week for the past month,
we have seen story after story ofone bus after another of one complex and
these are in the bus that we'veseen where police have raided houses where there
are entire stockpiles of fireworks, Andyou would think to yourself, what all

(17:23):
are you going to do with allof these fires, because you're not going
to set them all off tonight, even though even though I believe that they're
going to be going off well intothe morning, it's still more than one
person can hold. Now it's morethan one person can hold, and there's
more than one person bringing them intothe country. Like you said, in
my neighborhood, the fireworks started sometime. I don't know, months ago,

(17:47):
sometime before the beginning of summer, and they won't finish until sometime maybe after
Labor Day. If that they'll justget so the flow, the quantity is
not an any way diminished. Soit's it's I don't want to likn it
to the War on drugs, butit's very similar because you have it crossing

(18:07):
the border. It's everywhere. Noone's really trying to stop it. If
you wanted it, you can findit if you want it, and you
know it's in plentiful supply. Iwonder because we're having two different conversations.
There's a conversation about legitimate legal fireworksshows. Yes, what I'm hearing outside
that's not it. That's right inthe neighborhood. That's not at a stadium

(18:30):
or a park or some sanctioned eventwhere there's a fire chief or something like
that. For all we know, that could be gunfire happening outside your window.
We don't know. We maybe shouldbe ducking rather than broadcasting lot.
I'm not right in front of thewindow, you know that, right,
Yes, no, that sounds likeinsanity out there, But you got to
think so far right now, therehas been some one hundred and twenty tons

(18:53):
one hundred and twenty tons of illegalfireworks seized already and we are still here.
Ordinance. That's ordinance outside your window. That is amazing. It's it's
interesting, if only because I amconflicted, because I'm all about safety,
right, and then part of meis saying, like, don't go outside

(19:14):
because there's stuff that which happens outsidewhen people get crazy with these illegal fireworks,
and also part of me saying, well, it's the tradition to go
outside on the Fourth of July, and that's part of the reason when we
try to stay in the park wherewe don't get too close to what's happening
on the literal street. Yeah, which is that what you hear right there
in the background, that's on thestreet. Oh no, there we go.

(19:41):
That's not like that was dex door. Yeah, we we have plenty
of n eighties, which is Ithink is like a quarter stick of dynamite.
It sounds like it. And I'msurprised we have not heard any silence
because I've been listening out for sirens. I'm waiting for at least some scream,
some oh my God in the nightand the sound of sirens, A
fire truck or paramedic to come andget some. You don't want that,

(20:02):
but you know that that's a distinctpossibility. I appreciate the drone shows.
I don't know how much they cost. I don't know if there's a financial
if it's cost prohibitive for cities todo it, but it seems like it
would be not only safer, butmore creative after a certain point. Once
you've seen a fireworks show, alegitimate show, you've kind of seen them

(20:25):
all. Yeah, there's not alot of variation between them. But a
drone show and I think the firstone I saw was like the Beijing Olympics
opening day ceremonies. There are amillion things that you can do with it.
Well, I think over the courseof time, a drone show is
an investment for a city. Theside effects of the ATSD you are forcing

(20:48):
upon. Just think about all ofthe homeless veterans out there who are unable
to cope with the sounds that they'rehere right now, lost pets, and
just general the hazard that this postposes on the city. Long term,
a city would be able to benefitfrom investing in and developing drone fireworks shows

(21:10):
because this, I swear this isdamn scary what we're hearing. I tell
people it sounds like a war zone. People don't believe it's say no,
mo, you're exaggerating, And thenI post the audio or post the videos
and they say, yeah, yeah, I don't know how long this is
going to be the future or eventhe present. I'm pulling for the drone
shows, but unfortunately the downside oftradition is it makes it real difficult for

(21:36):
people to let go of certain things. You know, I know it's hard
for people to let go of fireworkshows because it's tradition. Every single year
we go to a firework show.We told people, don't use the illegal
ones, go to the legal shows. Go here, go there and see
the fireworks. See the firework showsmultiple at Disneyland, for example. Yeah,
yeah, you know. So yeah, we're pulling against ourselves. We're

(21:59):
trying to wean people off of fireworks, We're trying to rid ourselves of illegal
fireworks. But at the same time, we haven't made the honest and earnest
step forward to drone shows in agrand sense. But even Disneyland has backed
off of their fireworks show and they'vestarted doing this wonderful world of lights and
colors and sounds with the water show, so they're pitching images against water and

(22:23):
having fire and things. Even Disneylandis like, Yeah, maybe this isn't
the way to go. Maybe wedo not need to have Bay Root in
the Orange County every night, disruptevery night, twice twice nighty. And
that's what it sounds like outside ofme. I've never been in combat,
and I do not want to lightenwhat it is that soldiers go through.

(22:45):
But this what I'm hearing outside.Wow, man, it's calming down.
No, hell, as it getscloser to nine o'clock, No, it's
going to ramp up, ramping up. Yeah, it's later with Moke Kelly.
We'll have more from Chateau le Mo, more fireworks, more fun,

(23:07):
more food. You're listening to Laterwith Moe Kelly on demand from KFI AM
six forty. The fireworks are reallyramping up outside. One hundred percent of
them are illegal, because in thisneighborhood they are not legal at all.
Some of those are professional grade thatyou're hearing in the background. In a
moment, the party here is goingto go outside and go up to a

(23:30):
nearby park and see the three sixtydegree panoramic view of both the illegal and
illegal fireworks are dancing downstairs. It'sa full on party here. You can
hear the music. Crap nah,I look. I love it. Even
even when I went downstairs, fora second, I thought it was karaoke,
but it turned out to be thatthey were just getting a full on

(23:52):
party on downstairs. And I lovethat. That is the way that house
parties and everything tune in and whenall the sudden it starts off where it's
a cool gathering and everyone's eating andgetting comfortable. And now as soon as
the you know, it gets darkoutside, they're singing downstairs. The libations
are flowing, flowing the I meanlight litter. I'm looking out the window

(24:12):
behind you and it's like lighting upoutside with all of the orderness that's going
on. This is why we lovecoming to Chateau Le Mode for the annual
Force celebration. And this goes backto our conversation last segment. I'm conflicted
because I do have the warm andfuzzies for years gone by fireworks shows,

(24:34):
sitting with my family, going tofirework shows with my late father. You
know, there's some real memories tiedto fireworks. But I know that life
has to move on, and societymoves on, culture moves on. We
may be moving away from the ideaof fireworks, but don't get me wrong,
there's a lot of nostalgia tied toall the stuff that you're hearing right

(24:56):
now. I mean, look, trust and believe. I'm from Passing Dina,
where one of the most nostalgic classicfireworks shows of all times takes place
at the Rose Bowl, And Igrew up at least getting on someone's roof
or sitting outside of the Rose Bowlatop the hill watching the fireworks go off.
So my heart really really has aspecial place for fireworks shows. I

(25:22):
love everything about it. But Ialso know that, like America itself,
as this country continues to grow continuesto age, things like fireworks are actually
going out of style for a rubberof reasons. So that there is that
to contend with Mark Roner. Idon't know if you can hear me,
but I'm curious to know. Ifyou can't get on the mic, I

(25:45):
can hear you. What about fireworksin you? Do they have any real
place in your memories? In thenostalgiap connected to them? Well, I
mean, I grew up with mygrandparents, So every Fourth of July,
like clockwork, my grandpa was outoutside hosing down the roof of our house,
yes, keep it from getting burnedto the ground, which was funny.
Sometimes he remembered to wear pants.Uh, the neighbor Wait, don't

(26:08):
just skip by that. No,no, no, let's just please please
keep moving. But hey, areyou in Beirut or is it Somalia?
Which one is? You can youcan hear all the fireworks your neighborhood sounds
like mine sounded all last night, well into the wee hours of the morning.
I tell people, I'm not exaggeratingany of this. This is a
typical Fourth of July. Listen tothis. Yeah, it's terrifying. And

(26:33):
y'all have you know that we wereall texting last night that I was going
to go outside and tell the peoplein my neighborhood to knock off the fireworks.
Uh, and you and Towala wereboth encouraging me to stay your ass,
stay your ass inside. And Uh, I'll just say that when I
went out, I couldn't find anybody, but that probably saved my life.

(26:56):
Yeah, because someone's shooting it offand they're probably not in their right mind.
You might be inebriated, they mightbe bad inebriated and not in their
right mind. So nothing good isgonna come out of that. But as
far as fireworks, when I wasa kid, the kind of neighborhood fun
Dad across the street always lit offthe fireworks to keep it safe. On
the other hand, it was inthe Pacific Northwest and it was full of

(27:17):
trees, and we had those crazypinwheel fireworks that you that you hammer to
a tree, which is insane. It just randomly shoots them out in all
sorts of directions. Yeah. Yeah, so I'm lucky to be alive,
Stephan. What about you? Doyou have need to establish a tied to
the fireworks? Absolutely? I rememberI was always the one kind of in

(27:41):
charge of the fireworks show at ourhouse, safe and sane always, but
yeah, I was part of it. And my neighborhood sounds exactly like that.
And for the text that we weretalking about, yeah, it looked
like an invasion was coming towards myarea and like that's closer actually to Moe's
places. So I'm sure he hearda lot of it felt a lot of

(28:02):
this that was going on last night. Even what we live in relative close
proximity, so anything that I'm hearing, if you were home, you would
be hearing exactly. Yeah. Soyou know, at this point in the
show, as this tradition at ChateauLe Mo, all the partygoers, all
