Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
It is now time for the game where you choose
your own cinematic adventure. There are ten movie clips that
we have assembled from various decades in American movie history,
as we do each and every Friday night, and your
job is to pick one and then name the movie
from which it comes. Some days we play for prizes
and some days we play for fun. And after hearing
(00:30):
the clip, you can ask for help from anyone in
the studio or in your house. You can Google, you
can text a friend, you can lie, cheat, steal, we
don't care. But the answer is up to you. You'll
have thirty seconds from the end of the clip and
one hint from those of us in the studio to
give the right answer. Now, let's get to it. This
(00:51):
is name that movie cult Classic, the Robert Redford Tribute Edition.
All we need now is some Robert Redford centophiles, people
who know Robert Redford's movie history, like Mark Ronner. He
might be around to help you out. And I'm not
(01:13):
choosing all the movies that everyone knows. Okay, I can
tell you right now, Butcher Sun dance is not one
of them, so please don't say that. I'm letting you
know it's not in the group. Let's go to the phones.
You're playing for Alamo draft House, downtown La Passes. Let's
go to ann in Colton and good evening. How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I'm good?
Speaker 4 (01:38):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (01:39):
I'm doing well? It's the end of the week. Is
the best time?
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Yes, it sure is.
Speaker 7 (01:45):
I like Mondays though.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
You Are you working a Monday through Friday normal shift?
Speaker 7 (01:54):
Oh no, no, no, I work Tuesday through whatever. The day
is Saturday, so Mondays are great. It's the day off.
Speaker 8 (02:01):
It's Sunday.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Okay, okay, well that makes sense. Then, yeah, any day
you don't have to work.
Speaker 7 (02:05):
It's a pretty good day, freaking right.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
This is your first time playing, so let me just
make sure you know how we play this game.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Are you aware?
Speaker 3 (02:17):
No?
Speaker 5 (02:18):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
There are ten clips. You can choose any number between
one and ten. You'll choose a number, and then I'll
play a clip which has already been predetermined to match
the clip, and we'll play it out.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
You listen to it in its entirety.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
You'll try to guess the name of the movie from
the clip that you hear, and people like Mark Ronner
and myself can give you assistance if you need any
no pressure.
Speaker 7 (02:42):
Okay, so you're at all yay meo. That never happens.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Shoot any number between one and let's do number nine.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Number nine. Here we go, Mark, I think your acumen
might be needed for this. Here we go, number nine.
Speaker 9 (03:02):
I think it's important to note what subjects we haven't discussed.
We've completely ignored the fact that this is a society
divided by fear, hatred, and violence. And until we talk
about just what this society really is, then I don't
know how we're going to change it. For example, we
haven't discussed the rot that destroys our cities. We have
all the resources we need to check it, and we
(03:23):
don't use them, and we haven't discussed why not. We
haven't discussed race in this country. We haven't discussed poverty.
In short, we haven't discussed any of the sicknesses that
may yet send this country up in flames. And we
better do it. We'd better get it out in the
open and confront it before it's too late.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
And from Colton, do you know which Robert Redford movie
this is?
Speaker 10 (03:49):
It is called Don't Look up.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
No, it's not it.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
It's a good guess.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
This Robert Redford movie stars Robert Redford Peter Boyle.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
I'm trying to think, like.
Speaker 7 (04:09):
A boil on his neck or something different, boy l
e oh, oh, okay, my bad, my bad, And.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Robert Redford plays a guy who is running for senate
here in California.
Speaker 8 (04:27):
Hmm.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
And anyone who's running for office is called a what.
Speaker 7 (04:32):
Oh it's the candidate there.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
It is well done, well done, Anthond Colford. And it's
actually one of my more favorite Robert Redford movies. And
it was in finding that clip I have to go
rediscover the movie all over again. I haven't seen it
in a long time, and it's good. It's a Michael
Richie movie. Yeah. It's one of those things where it's
like when you see the clip, it reminds you to
go back and watch it again because I haven't seen
it in at least forty years. It was in the
(04:55):
eighties when I last saw it. So and you did wonderfully.
Speaker 7 (04:59):
First time yet I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, and do not rub it in that we're old.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
Okay, Oh, I won't go on your own.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
And thank you for being such a great sport, of course,
have a great weekend.
Speaker 7 (05:17):
You take care all right?
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Bye bye, Let's talk to Mike and himmet Mike, thank
you for holding. What's going on, my friend?
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Oh that beautiful evening out here?
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Is it cold?
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Oh no, it's fine, Hike seventy eight?
Speaker 11 (05:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Did you get any rain thus far?
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Oh we've gotten some downpolls.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Was it like in the middle of the day, one
of those humid rains?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, pours and minute sun comes out and cooks usalt.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
See, that doesn't happen too much in southern California. That's
like east coast or down south.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Oh, no, it's it's that the summers.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Well, it's good to hear that we're getting some precipitation. Mike,
this is your first time playing with us. Do you
know how we played the game?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
I listened to the other callers, so I believe I do.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Okay, you could choose any number except number nine.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I'm gonna choose number one.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Here comes number one.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
You have something that I just don't have.
Speaker 9 (06:24):
Well, I guess there's limits to what money can buy many.
Speaker 12 (06:31):
Wow, some things aren't for sale, such as but you
can't buy people.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
This naive Diana. I buy people every day.
Speaker 12 (06:44):
Oh well, in business maybe, but not when real emotions
are involved.
Speaker 13 (06:48):
So what are you saying? You can't buy love? That's
a bit of a cliche.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Don't you think.
Speaker 12 (06:53):
It's absolutely true?
Speaker 6 (06:55):
Is it?
Speaker 4 (06:56):
What do you think? I agree with, Diana?
Speaker 14 (06:59):
You do?
Speaker 13 (07:03):
Well, let's test the cliche. I suppose I were to
offer you one million dollars for one night with your wife.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
Hey, i'd as same.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
You're kidding. Let's pretend I'm not.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Mike, can him it?
Speaker 5 (07:31):
Are you familiar with this classic movie?
Speaker 10 (07:34):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (07:35):
I believe I've seen it, and I believe it's a
decent proposal.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
I believe you're correct. Hard to believe that that movie's
thirty two years old? Oh is it? Yes?
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Ninety three?
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Oh? That was really one of those what would you do? Movies?
Put it this way, I could never be Woody Harrelson's
character in that. That just no, a million dollars? So no, sorry,
Now my wife you have to ask her, but I'm not.
I'm not down with that. Not for a million dollars.
Speaker 15 (08:09):
You wouldn't have taken the million.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
No, I would not have. Nope, that's easy for you
to say.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Now, Mike, well done.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
We appreciate you calling in and hopefully you know you'll
call back in again. In the future, we're going to
be giving away tickets for our our annual Halloween soiree.
Would love for you to come.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
All right, sounds good.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Have a great weekend, Mike, you too.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Thanks for having me play.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Absolutely, let's go.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Let's get one more call and let's talk to Karen
in Chatsworth. Karen, he there. Hello, Hi, Karen, How are you.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Hi?
Speaker 10 (08:50):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (08:51):
I'm doing fine? Are you okay? Seem a little down?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Yes, nope, I'm doing great.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Who's with you?
Speaker 6 (08:58):
Karen? Just me?
Speaker 2 (09:02):
It sound like there are two voices there? No, all right,
I'll take you. Okay, Karen. You could choose any number,
except there's more than one person there.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
I can hear it.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
No, it's only me, I myself.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Okay, all right. You can choose any number except number
one and number nine.
Speaker 7 (09:27):
I want number seven, lucky number seven.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Here we go.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
If I can get this to play.
Speaker 6 (09:35):
Okay, then no not okay, it's too late, colonel. It's
too late for a what for your offer?
Speaker 13 (09:45):
The men don't want to salute, they don't want to
use rank, they don't want better food, they don't want
more TV.
Speaker 6 (09:51):
They just want your resignation. So do I.
Speaker 13 (09:56):
My resignation or disgrace colonel A disgrace to the UNI one?
Speaker 6 (10:01):
You should not be allowed to retain your command. Well,
then I'd better go back. I think you should tell me,
mister Irwin, what's to stop me from just placing you
in the hole for say, six months? Nothing? That's the
(10:21):
way you want to win?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Karen and Chatsworth. This is a hard one, it is.
Let me give you some hints. Obviously, the stars Robert Redford,
but it co stars James Gandolfini in that scene. And
there's also Mark Ruffalo in this movie, Delroy Lindo. It's
(10:44):
a hell of a cast. It's really really good. And
Robert Redford plays a general. Okay, and the movie came
out in two thousand and one.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
What I'm gonna say, are.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
You sure about that?
Speaker 6 (11:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 10 (11:14):
I want to say, Academy Honory Awards.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
Oh, here's a hint. Here's a hint.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Kings live in a what.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
Castle?
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Okay? All right? So if it's if you're not first,
you are what's the opposite of first?
Speaker 12 (11:34):
No?
Speaker 5 (11:35):
In a race? There's that other voice that's not supposedly.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
There Okay, okay, so put it together.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
I'm triumph to say the words, the two words.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Okay, there's the second, second last. Listen to me. Listen
to me.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
If you're not first that that word is what.
Speaker 16 (11:58):
Last?
Speaker 2 (11:59):
All right? And the.
Speaker 10 (12:02):
Castle, Last Castle?
Speaker 5 (12:03):
Yes, that's it.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Now. This is a good movie.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Yay.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
If you haven't seen The Last Castle. Highly recommend. There's
some really good monologues and scenes with James Gandolfini and
Robert Redford.
Speaker 15 (12:18):
Highly recommend. I asked you if you were sure about it,
because I was wrong about it. I thought it was
Brewbaker from nineteen eighty. No, it's this very Brew Baker.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
Wow, I'm gonna have to see it.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Highly recommend.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Karen.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
I got to run and go to this break. But
thanks so much for calling.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
You in tonight.
Speaker 10 (12:36):
Thank you, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
And Karen, whoever's in the room with you, tell them
thank you as well.

while once.
Speaker 11 (15:12):
I heard Robert Shaw's voice.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yes, yes, yeah, Robert Shaw.
Speaker 11 (15:18):
And you're absolutely right.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
I don't think Robert Shaw gives enough credit for the
totality of his work. Mark, would you agree, Oh, he
was terrific.
Speaker 15 (15:27):
Yeah, anybody who only knows him from Jaws has to
look him up on IMDb and go hunting for his movies.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
He's great, right, And also there was Ray Walston in
it as well.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
I mean there's a lot of great talent.

Charles Derning, I'm just looking and remembering in the Sting
a lot of great Absolutely.
Speaker 11 (15:47):
Robert Shaw died far too young, and he was.

A huge drinker.
Speaker 15 (15:51):
Yeah, he just dropped dead walking with his family from
the car to the house one afternoon.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
Wasn't he drunk?
Speaker 11 (15:57):
And walking.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Any drunk when he did that powerful monologue and jaws,
I thought I read that somewhere. He was actually drunk
most of the time on the set, I certainly hope.
Speaker 11 (16:08):
So they had to the sea. Yeah, they had to
throw out the first take and shoot it again the
next day.
Speaker 15 (16:16):
He was also read Grant the Assassin and from Russia
with love.
Speaker 11 (16:20):

three through six, eight, or ten.

Speaker 10 (19:30):
God, yes, really that's excellent.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
Really. How soon did you start forming your guests?
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Was it early?
Speaker 8 (19:43):
I just thought Western y, you know, yeah, right off
the top I could tell it was a Western, So
then I was thinking classic Western, And honestly, that's probably
the only one like I could pull.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
So that's the whole I guess their clue in the clip.
If you're paying attention, and you were paying attention.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
Yes, fantastic.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
I'm excited.
Speaker 8 (20:09):

paragraph has to have more clarity. The reader's going to understand.
You don't mention Colson's name for your third paragraph. I
think mine's better, but you go ahead and read it.
If you think yours is better, we'll get yours to
the desk. I've got Colson's name up front. Here's a
