Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
six forty. You are listening to the Bill Handle Show.
Here's Neil Savedra jam that's funny.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
KFI AM six forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
Good Tuesday morning to you, Neil Savadra in the morning
crew here. Happy to be with you on this Tuesday.
Still a lot of news going on with Jimmy Kimmel
coming back tonight to the airwaves. If you remember, Disney
pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live almost at this time last week.
(00:46):
I think it was Wednesday of last week. He made
remarks on the Charlie Kirk shooting that sparked outrage. FCC
Chairman Brendan Carr threatened network licenses. Major station owners like
next Are and Sinclair pressured Disney to act and to punish.
Protests were all over the place again New York, Los Angeles.
(01:08):
Some subscribers canceled Disney Plus in protest. I saw that
all over the place, and if that's your thing, that's
your thing. I did not, even though I stand with Jimmy,
not because I think, you know, Jimmy Kimmel's not smug
at times, he is and he can be very smug
when it comes to conservative issues. And does that bug me, Yeah,
(01:30):
just because I don't like it on either side. However,
once you get government involved, that's a hard no for
me as somebody who speaks for a living, that's a
hard no. And I don't think Jimmy Kimmel's a bad guy.
I really don't. He seems like a decent human being.
(01:50):
And I don't think he deserved to be bumped in
regards to like FCC and stuff like that. Any government
steps in, that's now sent ship and that's a problem.
And if you're a conservative or a constitutionalist on either
side and you think that's okay, you're not smart. If
(02:13):
I was to say to you that Trump was coming
out and he was going to say, let's say the
last ten on the last ten shootings were considered done
by liberal thinking people, which I don't think they are
liberal or conservative. I think they're nuts. Once you pick
(02:33):
up a gun to take someone out, that puts you
in a different class. And so if he said that
and said I'm going to take away guns from liberals people,
anybody registered democrat, I'm going to take away their guns
to protect America. If that doesn't freak you out. Regardless
of which side you're on, then that's a mental issue.
(02:58):
So don't celebrate things that you disagree with because they're
coming from your side. That's another problem with the two
party system that I hate and why I'm no longer
a part of it. I vote with my brain. What
do we need now? What does this person bring to
the table. Sometimes it's a chess game. Sometimes it's a
block move to block something that could cause problems to me.
(03:21):
I seek it out, regardless of the R or the D.
I wish we all did. Also, as I've said before,
I think we've gotten to the point where there is
a tug of war between the right and the left,
and we the people, are the rope. So when it
comes to Jimmy Kimmel, I don't think that he should
(03:42):
have been censored for what he said on the air.
I don't think it was particularly bad. Anything he said
specifically about Charlie Kirk and Charlie Kirk's family I thought
was normal and human. Sat tire and making jokes about
the President and his reaction to it, I think is
on the table. However, if you're going to freak out
(04:03):
about Disney I want you to understand business is business
is business. If you didn't freak out when Gina Carano
was removed from Disney and the Mandalorian for her remarks
because they were conservative, you shouldn't freak out with Jimmy Kimmel.
Save for one thing. You've got the FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr,
(04:27):
and you've got Trump saying that people that networks that
say things bad about him, maybe they'll look at licenses.
The convoluted part is the FCC has no rights to
my knowledge over networks, just like they don't over cable.
What they do have authority over is is local sticks
(04:52):
meaning local antenna's local broadcasters. So imagine it this way.
I'm I'm in a studio right now owned by iHeartRadio,
iHeart Radio or iHeartMedia. Rather. iHeart Media as a network
is not controlled by the FCC. However, the license for
(05:16):
the studio I'm sitting in and the antenna that puts
it out to the public is controlled. But I don't
think that. No, I'm confident that iHeart Radio digitally the
stream can be touched by the FCC. So where they
(05:38):
come in and where they can lean on something is
if there's a license involved, or there's a merger that
needs the blessing of the United States government. That is
where they can guarantee it's been done before. The only
difference is, you know, Trump just says everything because he
wants credit for it. Do you know how most thieves
(05:59):
get caught bragging about what they did? And every time
I hear Trump say things, I'm like, bro, just be cool,
just don't say it. But he comes out he said,
guess what I did. I just screwed Jimmy Kimmel. Look
at that big, bad, big bamboom out of a job, Jimmy.
(06:22):
So it's like, then you lose me when you get
to that point. So there have been Republicans like Ted
Cruz and others that have blasted the FCC's involvement rightly.
So after days of talk, Disney said that kim O
will be returning today. I've said my piece. I find it.
(06:46):
I think cancel culture sucks to begin with. I hate
it on either side. I just you know, you can
vote with your your pocket book, your eyeballs, your ears,
and you know ratings will go down and then it
goes away whatever it is. That's fine. But to me,
if the FCC chairman Brendan Carr jumps in and says something,
(07:07):
or the president says something. That's when it becomes dangerous
to all of the all of us. That's not a
political side, that's not punditry, that's not any of those things.
That is all of us. That's we the people. And
if you've heard me talk about stuff like this politically,
I'm a we the People guy. So do I freak
(07:28):
out when a different president gets in than the one
I voted for? And think? No, not really do. I
think we keep an eye on them, absolutely, and there
are things that we can do, and I still believe
in us. The problem with the United States is not
the person in office, it's us and how we react
to them. I was taught a long time ago that
(07:48):
life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety
percent how you react to it. You know, you watch
a movie where somebody just keeps reacting poorly and poor
in your life, and you have all the view, so
you're seeing that what they're doing is wrong. You're going,
don't do that, don't do that. She did, She really
(08:08):
didn't do that. You perceived it wrong about all that stuff.
It's like, don't overreact. So either side. So Jimmy Kimmel
gets uh basically knocked off the air almost a week ago.
He's back tonight. And again, if you have anything with
(08:28):
the government stepping in, that's not you know, cancel culture,
which I do hate. That is censorship, which I hate worse,
and that's w're standing up for. So Kimmel will be
back and we'll see how it goes. Because the reality is,
and you can complain to Disney all you want. I
(08:49):
did not, you know, cancel anything from Disney, and I
don't have a problem with you. If that's the path
you that makes you feel better, But I'll tell you why,
because really Disney as a business isn't gonna They're not
saying kiss my ass to the government, which I'm all for.
(09:12):
If you want to say kiss my ass to the government,
knock yourself out, and you can, and I think Disney
has in the past said we're going to push through this.
But as business people, you have to look at the
fact that your massive outlets like Sinclair are saying we're
(09:32):
not going to err it. So Disney is not in
control of all of the assets and the outlet here.
So if you had, for instance, you know, the top
five movie houses or whatever, saying we're not going to
(09:53):
show your films you then you no longer have an
outlet of these things. And I think they were in
a position of trying to protect being able to have that.
And it's not like Jimmy Kimmel has the best ratings
in the whole wide world either, Let's be honest. If
he's shooting a little over a million people nationwide or
the numbers that we talked about last week, there are
(10:17):
other issues here. However, it was handled poorly and it
bit him in the ass. But Jimmy will be back tonight.
The only thing is, you know, dozens of stations Sinclair,
we don't know if Nexttar have they come out yet?
Next Oar Matthew and said anything, No, I didn't think
so so Sinclair. So let's imagine, like I said, let's
(10:42):
imagine that Sinclair and Next Star hold two hundred and
fifty stations that are controlled by the FCC, and you
have two thousand people for each that can't watch because
(11:03):
they're not covering it or not. They're putting on news,
which is what I think Sinclair's going to do, just
network news stuff. That's half a million people, that's half
Jimmy Kimmel's audience. So that we'll see how this goes down.
I mean, is it a win maybe, But on one side,
(11:24):
how many people will be able to see it if
those local sticks, those local stations are not airing it.
So I think it's a little nuanced. And I know
we don't like that anymore. Give us black, give us white,
but the nuances about well, hell, we don't have a business.
(11:47):
So now everyone gets laid off, all everyone loses money,
and for this cause that really isn't a cause because
from what we know right now, other than words that
were said by Brendan Carr FCC chairman and things that
were said by Donald Trump, we don't know that there
(12:10):
was actually any government interference here. It could have just
been the beliefs of Sinclair and of Next Star for
all we know. Neil Savander in for well, I'm always
in with or without Bill handled Today I'm with the
(12:31):
Morning crew problems in sin City. If you've been hearing this,
they've been having issues with a drop in people going
out and enjoying themselves. The Las Vegas Convention in Visitors
Authority released some numbers recently and said these were back
for July, I think, noting that even at that point
(12:53):
there was a twelve percent drop from last year. A
lot of discussion as to why this is and what's
causing it. One of the first things is, and I
think this is probably what we've heard the most, is
the cost of everything. You remember when you'd go to
Vegas and the whole point was like while they steal
(13:14):
all your money at the tables and everything that everything
else around you was either free or cheap, right, one
hundred dollars rooms or whatever they were, and free drinks
while you were playing, and everything motivated you just to
(13:34):
go and spend on gaming. When you're there, you just
go and you enjoy all of that. Well, a lot
of that is going by the wayside, and part of
it's going to be to compensate for the cost of
property and stuff out there. I bet you it's super
duper expensive to build a hotel. I bet it's super
(13:57):
duper expensive to have any property, whether it's rented or
owned on the strip. I don't care if you're a
restaurant or whatever. You are, right, So people have to
make the up those costs, I'm sure. And then there's
stuff that, you know, I've heard stories of people saying
there was a ninety five dollars ATM fee, which is
(14:21):
really hard to believe to me. It's been a long
time since I used an ATM. On the floor of
a casino in Vegas, I could see something like twenty bucks,
you know, something legitimately outrageous, but holy hell, ninety five bucks.
(14:42):
So for these the spotlight going on right now for
the decline and tourism, different people are throwing, you know,
their thoughts out as to where this is coming from.
Some I'm saying, it's those twelve dollars lemonades or twenty
bucks for two offees in the morning, and that is
(15:03):
genuinely you know nuts. Someone said a health kitchen they
spent thirty bucks for a single Cosmopolitan, which is what
three ingredients for a cosmo? You got got your vodka?
Got you cranberry juice?
Speaker 1 (15:25):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Triple not triple sec? What is a quantro some splash
of something in there. Anyways, it's a fairly simple drink.
Fifteen dollars, twenty dollars is high. Thirty bucks is ridiculous.
Some saying that, you know, these costs are what's causing
(15:49):
the problem. On the other side of this come Spirit Airlines.
You know, Spirit Airlines the butt of most jokes when
it comes to flying cheap. They're filing for bankruptcy again.
You know I could get them. I could do one
thing that would get them out of bankruptcy. Give the
cheap discount costs, but charge one hundred dollars per shoe
(16:15):
if people want to take it off. So if they're
going to go barefoot, you go right barefoot. That's one
hundred bucks. If that shoe comes off, you want the
left barefoot too, that's a hundie as well. You want
to put them up on someone's arm rest, five hundred
(16:37):
you would, you'd make that money back like that on
Spirit Airlines. But starting on October second, they're going to
be cutting flights to Vegas. That's a eighteen hundred flights. No,
that's eighteen hundred flight attended. Sorry, they're going to be
furloughed as part of the cost cutting. But those fewer
(16:57):
Spirit flights mean fewer budgets that basically are spending less
on that flight, so they can spend more on hotels, casinos, restaurants,
any of the shops around there. And they're calculating that
each lost seat on Spirit Airlines is about one thousand
(17:18):
bucks not spent in Las Vegas. That's the local economist saying, hey,
that's how we calculate what we're getting when those flights
come in. All of this with a weakening economy, raising
oil process, a lot of credit card debt out there,
(17:38):
we're seeing that this is causing a dent. Who knows.
You remember every once in a while, Las Vegas goes
through some sort of major change. They went towards the
family thing for a while. Then that was kind of
a bust, and then it kind of went to this
really high end glitz and glamour, come out here party
(17:59):
like a rock starck are on the roof of some place.
You know, people like the Kardashians would show up at
a party and that was like a big deal, and
that club became the biggest club. And now I think
their identity is like who are you, who are you
trying to attract? And why if it's just the whales
and the big spenders, you know, maybe that will make
(18:22):
their nut even with you know, the enormies like us
not going there. But someth they're going to have to
reinvent theirselfs somehow. It's still fun to go out there.
I've enjoyed it. Food's fantastic. But you know, unless I
have a reason to go out there, I'd rather stay
here in Soko. That's me, hang out at Morongo like
(18:45):
I'm doing this weekend. Join myself local, be treated like
a king. All right. So Trump came out and gave
a presser on tailan all or as it is called generically,
acid of mienifin, and the FDA are basically what they're
(19:05):
going to do is they're going to add a warning
label to a CID of menifin, which is fun to say.
And of course this is Thailand on no. I use
this solely. I had a kidney transplant back in twenty nineteen,
and there's a lot of over the counter pain meds
and stuff that I can't use. They just it's not
(19:27):
good for my body. Strangely enough, with the meds I'm
taking and all these things. So Thailand all is basically
if I get a cold or the flu or something,
that's pretty much all I can take. I can't take
really cold medicine and things like that, so it's my
only go to and I'm not a big pain medicine guy,
(19:48):
so this is not going to affect me the way
it's going to affect pregnant women, because that's who they're
focusing on. President Trump and of course RFK Junior are
urging pregnant women to avoid thailanol unless it's absolutely necessary.
Now they're linking the drug to autism. The problem is
(20:09):
there's a lot of contradictory evidence that is conflicting their case.
And this is around the world. This is globally, which
I'll get to in a minute, but right now it
looks like they're going to put just a label. FDA
(20:30):
is gonna put the label on. Trump also repeated debunked
myths tying vaccines to autism and question hepatitis B shots
for newborns. So there's a lot to unpack. But the
reality is that there are world organization and I'm not
just talking about the WHO, the World Health Organization, but
(20:54):
the European Medicineens Agency EMA. So the drug is still
considered safe for pregnant women when used properly, and that
there's no link between using this drug during pregnancy and autism. Australia,
the health officials called Trump's comments a misrepresentation of the science.
(21:20):
The country's Drug Agency and Chief Medical Officers said large
studies showed no link between the medicine and autism or
to ADHD. There was even some that came out saying
that it could actually be more problematic for a woman
(21:41):
to not use it. It's important that pain and fever
can be very harmful to a pregnancy, and that the
concern is that it might be worse for a pregnant
woman not to take it if needed. Then you know
when it comes to these concerns, the conflicting information, and
(22:05):
that now causing a fear of it would put women
in possible harm. British, like the British Health Secretary West
Streeting made it very simple, don't listen to Donald Trump
when it comes to medicine. Spain's Health minister also kind
(22:28):
of went after the jugular and went to Trump directly
accusing him of ignoring scientific research and that denying science
doesn't just hurt trust, it puts lifes at risk. The
Lead's Got White, the leading obstetrician in Australia and New Zealand,
(22:48):
said that he's really worried about the message coming from
the US that it's not safe. Pain and fever can
be very harmful to pregnancy. He added, telling women to
just suffer through pain during pregnancy is not only wrong,
it's sexist, I guess because guys can't make baby? Or
(23:11):
can they? Is it even sexist anymore? Wait? Can a
man have a baby? I thought a man could have
a baby now, And we don't know what a woman is.
We don't know what a woman is? Kno, Well you
don't know. I'm guessing. But they say so, how can
we even say that that's sexist or something? Or a faube?
(23:34):
That's a phobe? Right anyways? I I would put an
asterisk near anything that is coming out of the HHS
Secretary's office. You've got RFK Junior, I think is an
activist and that's problematic and politics. I'm not a fan
(24:00):
of most activists anyways, and in this case, I think
it's dangerous. Neil Sevader ad in the morning crew. This
