Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's kf I Am six forty and you're listening to
The Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
AM six Morning. It's Conway Show. It is Friday.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, we all made it well,
a lot of us did. A lot of us made
it till Friday. And now you can enjoy the most
beautiful weekend of the year coming up. We've not had
a weekend like this where it's gonna be this spectacular
outside all year. We were hit with the fires, we
were hit with the floods, the rains, we had earthquakes.
(00:36):
Last three Sundays in a row, there's been an earthquake
on Sunday, so be ready for Sunday's quake. There's been
one every week, every Sunday for last three weeks. That
is not a good sign. But before that, beautiful weather,
and man, it's gonna be fantastic, especially down in San
Juan Compestrano where the swallows are coming back at the
(01:00):
swallows are coming back to San Juan Copistrano and Conway's
coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
How about that.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I will be in San Juan at that beautiful parade,
and I hope they see you down there. That's tomorrow.
It starts at eleven am in downtown. Downtown San Juan
Copistrano is where it's going to be, and it's gonna
be great. It's gonna have you know, they've got this
huge park there that you'll enjoy. You know, bring the kids,
(01:33):
your relatives. It's a very safe place to be and
it's just gonna be you know, last year was raining
like crazy during the entire parade. It started the second
the parade started, is when we had the first drop
of rain. And then right after that it opened up
and it was literally pouring the entire parade. If you
(01:57):
remember that, maybe you were at the San Juan Capistrano
Parade lne year and you remember that it was it
was horrible, but but I couldn't believe it. Everybody stayed.
Everybody who wanted to go to the parade was there
and they all stayed. Everybody stayed, and I couldn't believe it.
(02:19):
You know, usually when you get rain like that, and
it was it wasn't just sprinkling. You could hear it
and you could hear it hit the pavement, you could
hear it hit the you know, the roofs of the building,
and it was loud, and it lasted a long time.
And man, I tell you something, everybody stayed. Maybe one
or two people took off, you know, and split, but
(02:40):
it looks like everybody else stuck around. So tomorrow there'll
be there's no threat of rain at all, no threat
at all, and it's just going to be a beautiful day.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
You're going to enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
So bring the family and and and have a great time.
There's a big park there with a lot of booths
you can buy stuff, you can also eat. There's a
lot of cool food there, and it's just going to
be a cool hang, a really cool hang. So that's
tomorrow in San Juan Compastrana.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Are you gonna ride a horse?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I think the don't.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
I'm not riding a horse, but I think the cart
that's pulling us will be horse drawn.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Oh okay, cool, Yeah, you get to choose the kind
that you want.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I don't think so, okay, I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
I think i'd like to have one of your dad's horses.
That's Richie who's producing with us, belly. You'll be back
on Monday by your dad breaks horses.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Right.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
For people that don't know what that is your dad
takes wild horses and tames them and makes that turns
them into race horses.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Correct or domestic or domestic whatever? How lol does it
take to break a horse?
Speaker 4 (03:55):
You know, it varies. Our latest one we got him
maybe like five six.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Years ago, and he's still not in not in the game.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
He you're able to hop on him and ride him,
but good luck trying to put the saddle on because
he tries to nibble at you. Okay, And that's something
that has not gone away really. Yeah, Like every time
I go visit my parents, like I, you know, go
and help out my dad, bring the alfalfa and help
him out and feed them and stuff, and then that little,
you know, situation keeps on nibbling at me.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
That's great, man, that's great. Your dad deserves a lot
of credit for that.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I love my dad and he loves his horses more
than he loves me. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
And you you, you know, you got to tell that story.
I know we got a lot of news to get
to we'll get to it, but Richie, you got to
tell that story. Man. I really felt bad for you because,
you know, in high school, junior high, in high school,
those are the years where you get friends, lifelong friends,
and you're just saying your dad decided to move the
family what during high school?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Yeah, it was so hard. I mean, I grew up
in the valley. All my friends, you know, are out here,
they're still out here.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
And before social media, yeah, before texting.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Yeah, texting was a thing, but it was like forty
five cents of text or something.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
It was like it was very hard.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
But yeah, it was crazy, just because I grew up
out here, all my friends were out here, and then boom,
we just he decided to move to Palm Dell and
it's uh, he wanted the space. You know, he grew
up in Mexico with animals and stuff like that, and
he wanted to experience that here in the States, so
he decided to move out there. And then obviously I'm
like a teenager, you know, I'm like, I have no choice.
(05:34):
And then yeah, we we moved out there, and dad
and my mom beyond beyond. I even had to get
at home school because I didn't like the schools out there.
Because I went from like, you know, growing up with
my friends to becoming popular and then not knowing anyone.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
So it was kind of hard. For sure.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
But yeah, no, now I appreciate it. I appreciate the
pieces that that's out there. You know, if I want
the chaos and stuff, I'm out here. If if I
want a little peace of mine without having your drive
so far, just go visit my parents and then I
get to do laundry and then I get said.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
So it works out and your dad owns your mom
and dad own a pretty nice piece of property.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yeah that's cool. Yeah, that's a cool deal, buddy. I'm
glad that you know.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
I think you make it more silly than it is.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I actually feel sorry about that. Uh that's your parents
arguing about uh, you know, who should take care of you.
But but I'm really glad that you know that you didn't,
you know, stay bitter your whole life. You have a
great disposition. You know, you have a sense of humor
about it. And you know, the kids that get pulled
out of high school and moved away for their friends,
(06:38):
they go one of two ways. One way is that
you know they like you, where they sort of get
a scent, develop a sense of humor and deal with
it and and make the best of it.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
And the second way is you you you.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Internalize everything, you become angry, maybe you turn to drugs
and drinking, and you go down a really bad road.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
And I'm glad you didn't, Buddy, I'm glad. Thank you
appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Yeah, that's it's a very difficult thing to do for
a child to be moved in high school or junior high.
And look, I understand it. You know, if the parents
have no choice, you know, if you're in the military,
you're in the Armed services, or you know, dad or
mom gets relocated and you got to go, or mom
and dad get divorced and you got to go live
with mom or dad. You know, somewhere in Cleveland. That's
(07:20):
a really big you know, it's a very trying time
for kids, and you pulled through it, buddy, So and
I think it made you stronger.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I agree. I agree.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Also, I should mention though that only lasted like about
a year and a half. I decided to move out
and moved in with my aunt and back to the valley.
So I was able to come back to school and
a cool friends and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
So good for you.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Yeah, still good. Still a good path, I would say.
And your aunt deserves a lot of credit as well.
I love her taking you in of course, yeah, because
you're a handful, just a little bit, all right, take
talk with you, all right. Alec bald when we didn't
get this yesterday, but his wife, his crazy wife, Hilaria,
I think, I guess. I think her real name is Hillary.
She was born, weren't raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Yet she
(08:04):
has this weird accent that she puts on and says
she's from Spain. It's odd and any and and she's
you know, she's doing this reality show with her crazy husband,
Alec Baldwin. And I can't remember one time in my
life that I felt bad for Alec Baldwin until today.
(08:26):
I can't remember a single time where I'm like, oh man,
I feel bad for that guy. You know, sometimes you
feel bad for people, like even people that you know
are wealthy or people are well off and something bad
happens to him. Oh man, I feel bad for that guy.
I remember ever saying that about Alec Baldwin until today
or yesterday.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
When I heard that audio. We'll come back. I think
I'll agree with this.
Speaker 3 (08:47):

We're just going to work with it.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
We won't be able to start and stop it as
crisp lee as we used to do, but we'll get bye,
We'll get by. Alec Baldwin is in the news. Remember
he shot a couple of people. One of the women
died and he was that turned his life upside down,
turned her life's upside down, to her whole family's life
(15:53):
upside down. And then he got He went in to
do a reality show with this weird wife of his.
This hilarious and she has this accent. I don't know
if you remember, I'll try to pull this up. But
when she was you know, I think it's five or
six years ago, when she was being interviewed for a
(16:16):
I think it was some kind of like morning show,
like Today's show, and she had was cooking or preparing food,
and and she was there was a cucumber there and
she said, oh, she said, how do you say in English? Cucumber? Cucumber?
(16:38):
She was raised in Boston. Oh, I got it. I
found I found it. Okay, I found it.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
This is great.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
She was raised in Boston, Massachusetts, where they speak English.
She was raised in a very wealthy household outside of Boston, Massachusetts,
and she couldn't figure out how to say cucumber, cucumber.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
And it's great, it's great.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Audio played with unredacted here and without stopping here we go,
this is great.
Speaker 15 (17:07):
Yeah, very ingredis we have tomatoes, we have.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Cucumber, cucumbers, pepper we have of course, she forgot, she
forgot the word for cucumber. And so instead of saying, oh,
we got peppers, and well, yeah, everybody knows that this
is you know, she could have got away with that,
but she goes, how do you say in English cucumber?
Speaker 2 (17:32):
We have tomatoes, we have cucumber, cucumbers. How do you
say it in English?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
She was born basically in the Century City or West
or Hollywood, West Hollywood, or maybe even Beverly Hills of Massachusetts.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Do you say cucumber? All right?
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Then we cut to a reality show that she's doing
with her Adobe husband Alec Baldwin, and she in am
or no, he interrupts her, and she lets him happy.
Speaker 7 (18:04):
I don't think you make it more silly than it is.
I actually feel I feel sure. No, No, we just
we just cut all that part out, cut you out
when you're trying to make it silly.
Speaker 14 (18:12):
Fit.
Speaker 16 (18:13):
Okay, so this got awkward now this actually happened last week. Yeah,
trigger got a hoove it today and is trending right now.
So Alec and Hilaria Baldwin we're part of a Hilaria
called it on Instagram afterwards, and the iconic New York
Nights celebrating the grand opening a Planet Hollywood and Times
Square ALC.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Knight's so much.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Wait a minute, they're still doing grand opening the Planet Hollywood.
What is this nineteen seventy six, nineteen seventy seven they're
doing They're still doing grand openings of Planet Hollywood. Wow,
man oh man, that's like doing a you know, a
planned opening of builders emporium. Like, hey, we're gonna get

Speaker 13 (18:55):

Speaker 16 (18:55):
Man, Man's fuen hosting the evening's festivities.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Well, Hiara, let me see if I heard that? Are
you sure it's Planet Hollywood?
Speaker 16 (19:02):
And afterwards and the Coonic New York Nights celebrating the
green opening a Planet Hollywood in Times Square, ALC and
I had so much fun hosting the evening's festival.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
We hold them on a second.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Who thinks that America is still wanting more Planet Hollywood's
Who thinks that we're all so enamored by celebrities that
we can go in there and pay double for a
meal because there's you know, because George Lucas is on
his picture is on the wall, or or you know,
name your celebrity whoever it is, because their pictures on
the wall and their pictures on the menu. I mean,
(19:33):
doesn't don't people realize that we're done with celebrities that
for the most part, look at the movies that are
opening up. The movies that do well are with actors
that nobody knows. The TV shows that do well are
actors that nobody knows. The campaigns that do well Kamala
Harris and Donald Trump. The one that did really well
(19:57):
is the one that didn't use any celebrities. People are
turned off by celebrities and and you're opening up a
planet Hollywood in the face of that.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Oh my god, who goes these well.
Speaker 16 (20:11):
Hilaria did not have fun on the Red carpet When
they arrived, Extra interviewed them for seven minutes on the
red carpet.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Oh god, it's essential, it's essential. But you know, I
think that us trying to every day.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
So he starts talking and she shuts him down since, yeah, okay, I.
Speaker 16 (20:31):
Know hilarious heritage has been questioned in the past.
Speaker 7 (20:36):
Oh my god, you're distracting me right now, Like now,

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah, yeah, you're just distracting.
Speaker 7 (20:43):
But oh my god, stop you're annoying me.
Speaker 2 (20:45):

Speaker 1 (20:45):
So she says you're distracting me, and he goes with
my it's my go to line anytime you piss off
your wife.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Oh you're so beautiful. How does that work for you?
Speaker 1 (20:55):
It does not work in my household because my wife
sees right through it and she gets anged. Re err
oh you think you can appease me with that, right,
And I'm like, well, sweetie, you're losing a little bit
of what I just told you. With that face you
got to go back to that face before little.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Almost there, you're getting there, you get that bye bye.
But the anger is not working for me.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
But in this case, he goes with the old like
you know Flintstones stand by.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Oh you look so beautiful. You know, hey, welm, you're
so beautiful.
Speaker 16 (21:26):
Heritage has been questioned in the past.
Speaker 7 (21:29):
Oh my god, you're distracting me right now, Like now
you're just doing that.
Speaker 6 (21:32):
Why why are you distracting me?
Speaker 7 (21:34):
Yeah, yeah, you're just distracting shove it.
Speaker 2 (21:37):

Shove it.
Speaker 13 (21:44):
Oh my god.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
Stop you're annoying me. Stop it's not cute. No, he's
distracting me. So like, walk out of this interview. B
Anie the Motherhood notes, you were doing an amazing No, okay,
go back, let me go back.
Speaker 11 (21:56):
No.
Speaker 16 (21:56):
I like just kept gushing about this whole life with

so many people that I love.
Speaker 14 (22:03):
I'm always I was sad to leave home and I'm
always happy to come home.
Speaker 16 (22:07):
But Alec is sensing there may be some adjustments made
for season two. They're out to show the Baldwins.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Has anyone seen that angel?
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Have you looked at this the Alec Baldwin reality show?
Speaker 12 (22:17):
I have.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
I've caught a couple episodes. What is it on? Is
it on Hulu? I think it's on TLC GLC any good? Yes,
you know.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
It's It's not bad. It's interesting to watch, but I'm
just the whole I was watching it to listen to
her accent or lack their uh.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Yes, not there. Does she go with LATINX or she
go with Boston?
Speaker 5 (22:46):
I think that she would go with Latin.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
It sounds like.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
They're doing have tomatoes, we have them?
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Here we go. How do you say it in English?
Speaker 1 (22:59):
I was born right outside of Boston, Massachusetts, where nobody
speaks English.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
How do you say it?
Speaker 9 (23:04):
Again?
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Is that the cucumbers, cucumbers, cucumbers, cucumbers?
Speaker 2 (23:08):
I think?
Speaker 5 (23:11):
And then in that show, a slight accent kind of
makes an appearance, and for the most part, it just
sounds like she's just, you know, a normal person, a
normal person born and raised in America.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
I heard this that, and and again I heard that
they you know, they had five boys or six boys,
five boys or six boys, and she and Alec always
wanted a girl, so she got pregnant again, and before
they discovered the sex of that new child, they adopted
a girl just to make sure, and then they had
a girl.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
So I think they have five boys and two girls.
I think that's what's going on. A lot of kids.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Yeah, they got it. They got a ton, an absolute
ton of kids. And uh and I'll tell you, man,
that's the that's the way to uh to roll.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
You know.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I have as many kids as you can in life.
That is the absolute way to go through life.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Ding dong.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
He's got some pretty good guests today.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Lined up Alex Michaelson at five oh five and then
Stu Mandell. Remember he used to fly at night the
Fox eleven helicopter. Now he's a morning guy, so I
never hear from him. You know, I'm just not up
at that hour. But he's going to come on at
five thirty five. We'll talk about some LA historical buildings
that are burning up that's horrible and just you know,
(24:44):
all around general knowledge of a guy who flies a
helicopter around LA. We'll talk about the fires as well,
and I really miss Stu Mandel in the evenings. He
used to come on with us whenever there was a chase.
We sort of worked as a team. Con Way in
Mundel back together again. So that's at five thirty five.
But first the United States Post Office. They are going
(25:08):
to improve delivery and cut costs. If you can believe that,
USPS is refining its service standards to improve delivery, predictability,
and reliability, generating and estimated thirty six billion dollars in
savings over the next decade. Thirty six billion dollars. The
adjustments are going to affect first class mail, periodicals, marketing, mail,
(25:32):
package services, gold run. The refinements will occur in two phases,
April first and July first of this year. Refinements will
maintain the existing first class mail at the Post Office,
but ground advantage service in standard day ranges will improve.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
That's that's a cool deal.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
And maybe at Christmas we can you know, we can
get closer to the actual holiday Christmas Day before we
have to have everything in the mail. But they're going
to improve service. They're really going to target the two
to three day turnaround service with certain regions.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
You know, I have to say.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
I'm, you know, fairly critical of a lot of government
services that don't work, but my experience with the post
office is great, you know, to be able to put
a I don't know what a stamp costs nowadays.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Fifty six cents, fifty eight cents. I'd like that.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
I probably should look that up, but whatever, you know,
you put a stamp on envelope and two or three
days later it gets to New York City or Cleveland,
wherever you're going.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
It's it's a really sweet deal.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Still and seventy three cents.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeap, whoa, I take that back, it's a rip off.
How about this a postcard?
Speaker 1 (26:50):
When I was younger, you put a ten cents stamp
on a postcard.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Well tell me more, Grandpa.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Hey, zip it I ten cents for a postcard. Now
a post card fifty six cents for a postcard. International
mail will cost you a dollar sixty five. That's a
sweet deal. Large envelopes started a buck fifty. Oversized envelopes
started a dollar nineteen, and oversize oversized postcards they need
(27:17):
a letter stamp, so you're gonna cost it'll cost you
seventy three cents. Seventy three cents So you take a
letter you're gonna send to your mom or dad, Grahama
and Grandpa, and they live in New Jersey, and you
write the letter to them and I and you, you know,
put it in the mailbox, you take a post office
or put it in a blue box, and four days
later four or five three four, five days later it
(27:39):
gets to New Jersey, you know, usually the right address.
And for seventy three cents. You can't beat that. You
can't beat that. I I I can't remember who it was. Oh,
I remember what it was. There's this great lady who
emails me all the time. I don't want to say
(28:00):
her name because I've not asked her permission. But for
the last three years she has been emailing me and
we email back and forth, and she is homeless. She's homeless,
but she writes such beautiful letters, saying, hey, you know,
I was staying in Torrents last night and the three
(28:21):
hours you're on is a great distraction for me. And
then she tells me, you know, what her ailments are
and what her problems are.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
And I write back to her and.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Sometimes send her a little something in the mail, and
she's great, but I sent her something on a Thursday,
and I can't remember what it was. I think it
was a gift card to something. You know, nothing. It's
going to break me, all right, but something's gonna really help.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Oh, I know what is. Oh, here's what it is.
And now I remember what it was.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
She has a radio and she says the key to
her happiness because she's homeless, is listening to KFI on
her radio. But yet she said her batteries cracked out.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Oh she used that TERMINI.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
But her batteries died. And I said, oh, that's horrible.
I said, how's the radio and she said, oh, it's
a it's a radio from the nineteen seventies. I said, well,
I know the people at Sea Crane and they gave
me an extra radio. I'd love to stick a radio
in the mail and you could use that. I put
(29:27):
that in the mail. It's probably about a pound and
a half or so. It's a beautiful Sea Crane radio.
I put it in the mail on a Thursday around noon.
She got it on Friday the day after, and it
was like, you know, four or five bucks to throw
it in the us PS. But she got it the
(29:48):
very next day, so there was new batteries in there,
a new radio, and man, the little things like that
improved people's lives.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
She enjoyed them. She enjoyed that.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
I've had good experience with the US Postal Service. I
really have no, you know, major complaints. I think that,
you know, their overnight delivery is terrific. Anytime I pay
my taxes, you know, property taxes, I always do the
tracking and they're very good at that. I will say
(30:21):
that I don't go to the post office in Burbank
because that's popular and there's always a big line. I
go to the one in Glendale right off of San Fernando,
and it's run by really terrific people who are always
very nice. They're always very upbeat. They have to deal
with the public every day. Can you imagine working at
the post office where your job is to deal with
idiots coming in and figuring out how many stamps to
(30:45):
put on what and where it's going and all that stuff,
and you have a smile on your face. So hats
off the guys and gals who work the front desk
at the post office.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Man, you deserve an Ada boy, an Atta girl, or
an ad a you know, whatever is going.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
On back there, you deserve it, because man dealing with public,
especially in the post office, is hell.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
So the post office is going to improve.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Starting April first, there's a big push, and then July
first as well.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
So post office. I think it's great. It's getting even better.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
You're listening to Tim conwaytun you're on Demayo from KFI
AM six forty So beautiful day out.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
I'll be in San Juan Capistrano tomorrow for the big parade,
So come on out to San Juan Copistrano.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
That'll be tomorrow. The parade starts eleven am.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
But there's activities all day long, all weekend long, and
it's always a great party down there. So come on
out if you can. If you can't, I get it,
I get it. You know you have crap to do.
I understand that. All right, LA layoffs, there's gonna be layoffs,
but not just the city of Los Angeles. They're also
expecting layoffs with Southwest Airline. Seems like everybody's always laying
(31:59):
people off nowadays. You know, you never hear like around Christmas,
you always hear. Oh Ups is going to hire ten
thousand people. Amazon is going to hire twenty five thousand
people for the holidays. But then once the holidays are over,
it seems like all the rest of the eleven and
a half months that we hear about this is always
people getting laid off. And Southwest Airlines is going to
lay off a bunch of people, which is sad. And
(32:21):
here in Burbank, at Burbank and Lax will be the
you know, the main two hubs. We're going to see
a decrease in employees, a lot of firings, and they're
going to give them an opportunity to you know, go
to another airport or take an early retirement.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
But that's not going in the right direction. It's not. Well,
let's find out what's going on here.
Speaker 17 (32:43):
Well, Southwest Airlines is announcing plans to cut jobs at
four of its airports, including some here in California, Southern California.
According to a company memo, layoffs will start in June
at Lax, Burbank, San Jose, and Baltimore airports.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Did you hear that? Did you where there are going
to lay people off?
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Listen again, listen carefully, could affect your airport.
Speaker 17 (33:03):
Start in June at Lax, Burbank.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Lax, Burbank, Lax and Burbank.
Speaker 17 (33:08):
San Jose and Baltimore Airports.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
San Jose and Baltimore.
Speaker 17 (33:13):
Oh, boy, impacted employees, We'll be able to apply for
positions at other locations or accept severance packages.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Okay, maybe you've got a severance package and they're going
to pay you for the next you know, five, six,
seven months. Well, one of the cool places you can go,
Mammoth they just announced they're going to be opened through
Memorial Day. You can ski on Memorial Day in.
Speaker 15 (33:39):
Mammoth and after sixty inches of snow so far in March,
Mammoth Mountain has announced it will be opened through at
least Memorial Day.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Oh that is great, man, that is fantastic. All right.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
So it's not just you know, Southwest that's laying people off.
It's also the city of Los Angeles. They're expecting to
lay off thousands and thousands of people, which is not good,
not good at all. They have a shortfall in the
budget of a billion dollars. With a bee a billion dollars,
they've got to cut jobs. You know, a lot of
(34:13):
these people are just making you know, thirty forty fifty
grand a year and they've got to cut enough job
to save a billion dollars. So, if you live in
the City of Los Angeles, the services that keeps your
street paved, your trees, trimmed your parks looking nice, they're
all going to feel the effects of these layoffs.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
The top financial officer for LA says the city needs
to address or projected one billion dollar budget shortfall and
it could lead to thousands of layoffs.
Speaker 11 (34:42):
Our Mark curroll List joins us live from the newsroom
with new details this afternoon.
Speaker 15 (34:46):
Mark, We've been reporting on the budget concerns at ELI
City Hall for over a year, and now we can
see a real shift in Mayor Karen Vass's approach to
solving it. She has gone from wanting to fill hundreds
of vacancies to now calling on a comprehensive plan to
save between five h hundred to nine hundred million dollars,
and she's asking these cuts to be made for the
upcoming fiscal year. Describing the need for sweeping reform of
(35:08):
the city's budget, Mayor of Bass is blaming it depart
a downward economic trend along with increased costs related to
the Palisades Fire.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
How is the City of Los Angeles a billion dollars
in the red? The property tax is amongst the highest
of the nation. It's actually a little bit higher than
most states. It's not astronomical, but it's high. The income
tax is the highest in the United States. I think
it's thirteen and a half or fourteen percent. If you're
(35:38):
making some really decent money, then the sales tax ten
and a half percent, and then you got your federal tax.
If you're making a lot of money, that could be
thirty five forty percent. So we're at forty fifty one,
sixty one, sixty seven percent in taxes, and yet the
City of Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Is how to fix it.
Speaker 15 (36:01):
Bass's proposing changes to the number of city departments, along
with proposals to create payroll savings. Although specifics are not
yet laid out, today's announcement opens the door for major
layoffs to occur. I spoke this afternoon to the city's
chief administrative officer, who will be recommending ways to help
close the gap. He explained one issue the city has
(36:22):
faced his liability claims.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Yeah, they pay lawsuits like crazy.
Speaker 18 (36:26):
The city is being sued at a much greater rate,
with much higher levels of judgments and settlements, to the
tune this year of about three hundred and twenty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Wow.
Speaker 18 (36:39):
So that combined with what we project to be a
three hundred and fifteen million dollar loss of revenue creates
a huge gap.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Yep. The City of Los Angeles is broke.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
They have no money, and so services are going to
be affected. And when you get services affected, then you
get people looking for other cities to live in, and
that starts the death spiral. And I hope the City
of LA can get it together. Maybe they can ask
federal you know, the Feds for some money. Maybe, you know,
if they're really nice to Donald Trump and compliment him,
(37:13):
he can send a check out for a billion dollars
or so for the City of LA. It's not going
in the right direction.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Are we like broke broke or mc hammer broke broke?
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Broke, got it completely broke broke?
Speaker 2 (37:26):
It sucks all right.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
