Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you're listening to the
Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
All right, we're.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Watching this high speed chase going through Westwood, California. He
just turned right, so he's headed towards the UCLA campus
in Westwood, California. Oh eld stomping ground. We used to
go there every Friday and Saturday night. Steve Gregory very
familiar with this area. Chris Little joins us the news
director here at KFI AM six forty, all of us
trying to cover this chase live while it's being projected
(00:33):
on channel five, Channel seven and Channel nine. Going right
towards the UCLA campus, A couple of theaters there. Last
time I was there, I was watching a little movie
I like to call well, I guess licorice pizza. Thank
you very much, great, thank you very much, right there
at that big theater. And now he's going right towards
UCLA campus. If he keeps going straight the here, he'll
(00:55):
go right on to the UCLA campus where the UCLA
Medical Center is there, the Mattel Children's Hospital, and also
there's an in and out. If he turns left here
he can slide through that in and out get himself
a snack.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
I'm sure he's hungry.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
He's been out racing and chasing away from the cops
for more than an hour. Chris Little, what do you know? Well,
I know that the standard tire on that Lincoln Nautilus
is the two forty five sixty or eighteen. Oh, thank
you very much. And if that get gets punctured, expensive
time place. Yeah, yeah, a couple of three four hundred
(01:28):
bucks each, probably about three hundred, yeah, maybe two hundred
all right, Yeah, unless you get him filled with that
nitrogen out for that down.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, I wonder if that spikes trip actually did anything,
because you looked it looked like it was sort of
crumpled a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
And I don't know if it got up upright the
way it does. It have to be upright or going
to be on either side, it's got to be upright. Oh,
run flats. It's got to be flat so that the
spikes can look like students running across the street. Well, yeah,
scared to death. That's that one of those chick fil a.
That's a chick fil a right there. That's a section
where you can cross all four directions. Yeah, in the
middle of the road. That's the same time. It's actually six,
(02:06):
but we'll go with four.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
You're right, they're now saying he's a serial rape suspect. Yeah,
well they said that before, but we were trying to
figure out whether it was something he'd done there or here,
or if he's a Cereal rapist.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
He's from Boston, he's wanted for sexual assault, possible rape.
He might be armed. He's driving a Lincoln Nautilus Maroon.
He's going out to the UCLA campus. I believe, I
believe that's where they I think that's the Mattel. I
think that's the MATEL Children's Hospital in the UCLA Medical
Center right there. Yeah, look at that Channel five shot
up at the top. Yeah, that's where Michael Jackson was
(02:42):
brought when when he died. Yeah, I mean that's not
that's not a small deal. And also what's his name,
Kanye West, when he was going through his problems, he
was in that hospital as well.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
So the guy's sight saying is what you're saying. A
lot of celebrities not hospital.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
So they should cut him off here because he's in
a he's in a loop right now. Yeah, there's more
than and if those cops went to the other side
of the loop. He can't get out of it, right,
Come on, guys, But will they come on? Who knows?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Who knows?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
We're watching at Channel seven has a great shot of
it right now. Channel five is covering it. They're not
on it on Channel eleven yet, but they might be.
Now there's cops all over the place getting out of
their car, and they can box him in if they
go to the other side of this loop. Nop, And
they looks like they're not. Nope, all right, they're not.
(03:30):
There's a cop walking across the street. They for some
reason though he's stopping at the medical center. Maybe he
needs some help, Maybe he knows somebody at the medical center.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
There's a lot of unknowns here, but we've been watching
for them more than a Now we're here about an
hour and twenty minute.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Devil's advocate here.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
One of the reasons they may not want to engage
him here is because of all, if he is armed,
a lot of people get there, a lot of people
around there.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
That's people prudent move but I get it. Yeah, they
got safe.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, So he's gonna take a long time to go
through this. Uh, this horseshoe. If you notice on the
wide there is police that well they've blocked it off. Yeah, okay,
they finally did it.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Spike. Yeah, he said, let's put a price.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Okay, they're definitely gonna spike this guy because there's only
one way for him to get out of there straight
in that spike trip out. Come on, he is not
from Los Angeles. That's the worst place you could go
if you're running from the cops.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
And you know what's funny, the worst You don't mess
with people in traffic like that, Becauds. Wouldn't it be
karma if that guy gets a crap beat out of.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Him on a roadary Yeah, no kidding, But you know
they're also going to probably spike these other cars. His
only way to get out of this now is stay
very close to the car in front of him so
they can't spike him. You know, go do it, but
they call it the humpty hump in the in the
chase world where you put your car so close to
the guy in front of you can't. You're not gonna
spike them both.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Look at idiots. There are those idiots. Then, come on,
come on, the.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Cops are trying to get these other cars out of there,
and now they're gonna Oh.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
He's gonna go around the loop again. That's come on,
they missed them again.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
The car blocked them. Going to just go around this
loop again. He's gonna go around the same loop again.
That that that just keeps looping. He's going to go
in a circle. Now, he's gonna come out the exact
same place if they stay there, if they stay with
the spike strip was right there, He's going to come
back around. That's the only other way out of there.
He's got to come around again. It's like the airport.
Once you get into the horseshoe there, you got to
come around again. And there there is. He's going to
(05:20):
have to come around the same place. So he's gonna
he's done another circle in there. This guy does not
know Los Angeles at all. He's in the worst place
you could be on a high speed chase, the worst,
the easiest place for the cops to spike strip you
in all of southern California is at the UCLA Medical Center.
And this guy drove in there voluntarily. That's wild. How
(05:44):
dumb is this guy?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
I look at all those doctors and people come out
in scrubs with their phones.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, now where they were standing last time with the
spike strip. They're going to stay there because he's got
to come out that way. There's no other way out,
and he's going to come out the exact same way,
and they're going to get a second opportunity to spike
this guy. And it's going to happen here in seconds.
They're waving the other innocent cars by. That guy's getting
told to get the hell out of here. The shotguns
are coming out, and now they're going to have a
(06:11):
second opportunity to spike this guy.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
People are like, but I got to park over there.
Get the hell out of here. Ah, a bunch of.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Get out of here with you, Get out of here,
all right.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
So they we're watching it. It's on channel seven. They
got a great shot of it on channel seven. And
they're going to have another opportunity to spike this guy
right at the UCLA Medical Center, I think that's where.
I think that's also the Mattel Children's Hospital there as well.
So a lot of a lot of commotion, a lot
of confusion, a lot of cops, a lot of patients,
(06:45):
a lot of doctors, nurses, everybody's out watching this thing
now videotaping or videoing.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
And a munch tape is in a camera.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
And this guy has gone to the worst possible section
of Los Angeles to try to get away from these cops. Oh,
they put out two spike strips. Now, there's no way
that he's going to get out of this. I shouldn't
say that. Every time you say that, he gets.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Out of it. So, yeah, somehow he just Now.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Now the cops are out of the car with the
guns out pointed at this guy. This guy has just
I think he just got to LA today. That's what
the Oh. Now he's getting out and he's going to
make a really bad move. Unless he does what the
cops want, he could get shot right here. Fortunately, he's
about eight feet away from the emergency room. If he
does get shot, they're going to take him right into
(07:33):
that emergency room. If you're going to get shot, that's
the place to be. Maybe that's why he did it.
He's gonna go out in the blaze of glory here.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Would they actually drag him in or were they call
an ambulance first?
Speaker 2 (07:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Maybe it's like a butcher Cassidy sundance kid thing. Well,
they just go out.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
There's got some gotta be some protocol. Was like a
fairly older man. Here we go. He's balding.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, that's a typical suspect. Guy doesn't listen to me
talking about advance here. Oh he's a big fellow.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Usually a younger guy. This is an older man.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Older, fat guy, older big fellow, the big fellaw, the
big sucker. Looks like he's having trouble getting out of
the car. He's a big sucker. Look at this guy
huge interesting, interestingly, tim this car is manufactured in China.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
It's not really yes, and the one thing he is
saving on is ozempic. I'll tell you that not a
lot of ozempic in this cat's life. Maybe he's just
trying to catch his breath.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Look at that. He can barely get out.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
He's wanted on three r's reckless driving, rape and robbery,
and those are the big ones. Those are going to
get him in a lot of trouble here in La.
He will not be on his flight back to Boston.
He doesn't look like he poses much of a threat.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
He doesn't.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
He looks like his hands are behind his back, but
he's not handcuffed yet he's yelling at the cops.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
He doesn't look like he is. Oh maybe he's been drinking.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
So what I'm saying. He looks like he can't. He
had a tough time standing up. Oh my god, he's
a big sucker. Yeah, look at him. He's like, uh,
is he on his phone? He's got to be well
over three hundred, Yeah, he's uh. He looks like he's
probably in his late fifties early sixties.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
I'd say he's drunk because we saw him taking a
swig while he was driving down the storyway.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Kind of old, long in the tooth For this kind
of game, you usually see twenty year olds running away
from cops. This guy is like an old, drunk, fat
guy running away from the cops.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I mean, but he kept the car pretty in though, right. Yeah,
but again, get walk look at him. He might be
a cripple.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
A cripple, maybe that's possible to me disabled disabled?
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Okay, there we go. That's what he meant. That's what
I meant. Yeah, Okay, give him a break. He does it.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
He's on the back fender right now. His right leg
is not operating at one hundred percent. It might be asleep.
He could be asleep. Yeah, he's packed in there pretty tight.
And now the cops are opening the door looking for
other suspects. They don't find anything. It looks like he's
he's almost like cup that he's got that right legs.
(10:15):
It's like a comedy leg. Yeah, something's going on there.
And oh, you know they're gonna rest Oh they got
him called four. Yeah, we're all clear. They look they
didn't even throw them to the ground to handcuff him.
They feel bad for this guy. Think they didn't even
walk up with their guns drawn. So they've arrested this guy.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
That is.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
That's a wrap on this dude, and welcome to Los
Angeles from Boston. Wanted it on rape possibility, also reckless driving.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
He may have been armed and he's.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Certainly the said three rs earlier robbery I think was
one of them. Rape I think was another, and reckless
driving reckless driving I think.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
So. So anyway, there you go. That's a wrap by
as Steve. Thank you for coming in. Appreciate it, sure.
And Chris, do you remember what I was supposed to
be in here for. Yeah? I don't neither, But what
a day for this chap.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah, sixty five year old, fat guy who can't walk
well running away from the cops all day. Look at him,
he can barely move. All right, Thanks Boston, appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
What a chase, What a chase? What a way to
start a Thursday. You know, it's new Friday. Everyone's listening
on Thursday. We sent out one of those push notifications,
so a lot of people are tuning into KFI for
that high speed chase around the airport. It was a
guy from Boston. Allegedly I wanted for sexual assault maybe rape,
(11:48):
bad news. And he pulled into the worst place in
Los Angeles that you could possibly go to try to
avoid the cops. It's that horseshoe that had semi or
that circle right at the UCLA Medical Center. There's one
way in and one way out, and he picked the
worst area possible and he got caught. He got caught
(12:13):
because he doesn't know the area and evidently was not
listening to you know whoever he was on the phone with.
I'm sure that people on the phone were saying, hey,
you got to pull over, you know, hell out here
what's going on with you?
Speaker 2 (12:25):
And he said no, So anyway, that is the the chase.
It's over.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
It happened around Lax and Lax is where they're going
to have that people mover at Lax. Let's find out
what's going on with that people mover and why it's
so late and why it's so expensive and why it's
over budget.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Well, the cost of the Lax people mover is going
up another four hundred million dollars.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Oh that's not bad. Four hundred million for a project
in La.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
That's peanuts. Let's find out why it's four hundred million
dollars over budget.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
And La City Council Committee has approved an increase from
two point nine billion to more than three point three
billion for the long elevated rail system. The Airport commissioners
say that the money is needed to settle legal claims
file by the contractor. Work on the people mover started
more than five years ago.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Wow, five years to get a people mover going.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Five years ago. If there are no more delays, it
could be operational by January of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Oh god, it was supposed to open in twenty twenty two,
So twenty twenty six for la if if it opens
and then and I think they said that was a big.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
If five years ago. If there are no more delays,
it could be operational by January of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
January twenty six, if if if, if big if here
in la All right, we got to take a break.
We are long on the last one because we're covering
that high speed the end of the high speed chase.
And you can if you're just tuning into KFI, because
you got to push notification welcome to KFI. We cover
chases and anytime they're on the air. We sort of
(13:57):
sort of started that. I think I don't remember a
lot of people doing it before we did, and now
sort of everybody does it, and that's cool. That's flattery, right,
that everybody's sort of copying us.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
That's kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
Am six forty.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
A lot of news today.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
We had the live chase around lax that was something
else to watch. End up in Westwood at the medical
center there and then guy got out of the car.
We had one of our very very bright, funny talented
listeners wright us and said, man, great police chase. Looks
(14:39):
like they captured Brandon Frasier, the star of the Whale movie.
Oh boy, all right, big dog, I know what that
reference is, but I'm sure it's good. All right, breaking
news in Irvine, BELLYO. You're an Irvine, Irvine eat, Irvine ist.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I don't know what you are, but I do know
you live in Irvine. What are you?
Speaker 1 (15:02):
An Irvine Irvine irvineist? What do they call people live
in Irvine?
Speaker 6 (15:08):
Smart?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Smart? Okay, you're a Irvine smart. Yeah? All right. There's
a bad news coming out of Irvine. Now, yeah, bad news.
Speaker 7 (15:15):
This story is developing as we speak, and it's all
taking place here in the University Park of Irvine. It's
an officer involved shooting. I can't tell you that two
people are dead.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Oh my god, man, oh man.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Irvine was never in the news over the last twenty
twenty five years. Nobody murdered, nobody raped, nobody abused, no kids,
you know, being lifted and stolen.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Nothing.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Irvine was the dream community forever. And now, yeah, that
ups guy that was killed in Irvine. You had that
radical protest that happened on the campus. You had some
another guy running around shooting of people and then you
got this thing here.
Speaker 8 (16:02):
A lot of those unbelievable incidents. It seemed to be
people that know Wan, it's like a personal Yes, I
think you're right. That's that's better, right, Yeah, But I
don't know. It's it's getting crazy down there. I think
it's time to move again.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
BELLI here at the scene. I'm gonna let you guys
take a look at this very very active scene that's
taking place near Coral Tree and Green Tree here.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
You know where that is? BELLI, do you know where
Coral Tree and Green Tree is?
Speaker 8 (16:26):
I think that it's close. It's in the University Park area,
and I think it's close to the college.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
Okay, the scene that's taking place near Coral Tree and
Green Tree here in the University Park near Irvine. According
to Irvine Police, they tell us that they got reports
that a man was attacking a woman here in this
neighborhood with the knife. When they responded, they did find
a situation unfolding, and that's when an officers shot at
(16:53):
the mill suspect. Right now, we hear from authorities that
both the man and the woman are dead here at
the scene.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Oh my god, this isn't Irvine.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
We're still trying to gather more information on their relationship.
But according to authorities, they tell us that they did
know each other in some capacity. We do not know
if there were family members, husband and wife, anything like that.
We are expecting a live update from authorities here.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
And the ABC seven all right Channel seven ABC. They
have got an update on this shooting in Irvine. Happened
just a little while ago their.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
Community, especially having two in one week. We just spoke
with IRVINEPD a few months, a few moments ago, and
this is what they said about what happened here in
this neighborhood.
Speaker 9 (17:39):
And on their arrival, they found a man actively attacking
a female. Officers believe the female was being stabbed with
a knife. An officer involved shooting did occur at the location,
and both the suspect and his victim are deceased unseen.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
As you heard there from authorities that man was actively
attacking a woman outside of a home here in University Park.
We can tell you that the woman died from her
injuries or from being injured, and that man was shot
and killed by authorities. Right now, we're trying to figure
out the exact relationship between the two. But authorities tell
us that there is some kind of family relationship between
(18:23):
the man and this woman. All this taking place just
before three o'clock. Once again, I can tell you that
police responded to this neighborhood for reports of a man
attacking a woman. When they got here, they did find
a man actively attacking a woman with a knife. They
obviously intercepted that and shot at the man with their weapons,
killing the man. That woman died here at the scene.
This is a still very active scene. All this taking
(18:45):
place just in the last two and a half hours.
So as students we get any more information, we'll pass
it along to you, reporting Live in Irvine. David Gonzalez,
ABC seven, iwinness snooze day.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
All right, this is I imagine as they were talking about.
This is near the campus, which is just north of
the seventy three Freeway and south of the four or five.
But that is a very unusual story, a little east
of Jamboree, a very unusual story for Irvine. Irvine has
(19:14):
always always topped the list either one or two in
the safest cities in America to live in, and for
this kind of violence to find that area is unimaginable.
So we'll keep on top of this story, any more
details come up with what the relationship between the man
and the woman is and and I believe the man
(19:35):
was attacking the woman with a knife. Cop showed up
and shot the man, but the man and the woman
both passed away.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Unreal.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
All right, we had the high speed chase and then
we had the horrible incident in Irvine. Two major stories.
The high speed chase ended at the UCLA Meta. Guy
was arrested, kind looks like in his late fifties, early sixties, overweight, bedpins,
bed legs, interesting gait, and they threw him in the
cop car and he's speed wrapping downtown.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Now they're trying to figure out if he's wanted on.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
How many charges, sexual abuse, rape, carrying a gun, It
goes on and on.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
So he's got busy night ahead of him. And then
the incident.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Irvine cops got a call there was a guy stabbing woman.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
They showed up.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
He was actively stabbing a woman while the cops showed up,
and the cops shot killed him, and then the woman
also died I believe from her stab wounds.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
So Irvine.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
There's me a long it's me a long night in
the Irvine in the University Park area. So those are
the two major stories that are happening. There's some other
news going on, not as important. There was an earthquake
off of Japan. I guess if you're in Japan, that's important.
Seven point one. That's huge.
Speaker 10 (21:02):
This morning, a seven point one magnitude earthquake hit off
Japan's southern coast. People in the area were urged to
stay away from the coastline. A tsunami warning has also
been issued, but it has been lifted since No injuries
have been reported so far. Earthquakes in areas with nuclear
power and.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Do they build buildings correctly in Japan seven point one,
nobody injured, nobody.
Speaker 10 (21:25):
Earthquakes in areas with nuclear power plants have been a
major concern since that massive earthquake and tsunami back in
March of twenty eleven triggered the Fukushima nuclear disaster and
earthquake back in January in Japan's north central region of
Notto left more than two hundred and forty people down.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Oh boy, that's unbelievable, all right, anyway, keep an eye
on that story as well. That's huge seven point one.
Here's an interesting story that really didn't get a lot
of attention. There's a new perfume out there, not the
one for dogs. We covered that yesterday from and you
know anti As. Is that those.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Pretzel Yeah, sure you like those them, anti what's better?
What's the other pretzel joint? Wetzels? Wetzeles is great? Good? Yeah,
a lot of butter on the wet side, a.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Lot of butter. And they have the sugar ones, that's right.
And they also have there's bite size. Oh yeah, get
a whole bite a bag of bite size. The man
extra salt though, because the salt drops off from pretty quickly.
All right, Now you can smell, I guess like you
work at a mall.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
What's a smell that we're all familiar with? You walk
into a mall and there it is the aroma of
fresh pretzels. Well, that nostalgic cent will now come in
a perfume bottle.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Okay, now you can smell like you work at a mall,
come in.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
A perfume bottle. Anti Ends is launching a fragrance called
Need with a K, of course, inspired by its pretzels.
The company says it's infused with notes of buttery dough,
salt and a hint of sweetness with it.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Who is this designed for?
Speaker 1 (22:57):

to smell like a mal kiosk? You know, you want
to smell like a pretzel with.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Each spritzy bolki the experience of passing by an anti
Ens store. Neve will be available online in a one

Speaker 2 (23:13):

Speaker 3 (23:24):
It's silver? Isn't silver like twenty five bucks an ounce?
What does silver cost?
Speaker 2 (23:29):
I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
I think it's like twenty five maybe forty, but I
know silver is right around there.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Three point four ounce bottle will set you back for
forty five dollars. But pass the mustard anybody that looks good.
I want the real pretzel though.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Yeah, twenty seven dollars in a nickel.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Okay, so twenty seven dollars for an ounce of silver?
Is that one ounce of silver, Yes, sir, okay, and
then twenty same price for to smell like a pretzel. Yes,
I don't know what's going on, what's happening in this world?
Have what would you like to have? An ounce of
silver or an ounce of crap that make you smell
(24:06):
like you're working at a mall.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
It's odd. It is odd, to say the least. All
right in Vegas.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Vegas, that's always the first city to show us there's
a either a depression or recession coming up.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
That's when prices start to slide.
Speaker 11 (24:23):
Cost of living is so high that I live from
paycheck to paycheck and I can barely make it.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Yeah, she's not alone.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
Your Londa Perkin story is becoming all too common across
of the Nevada. Are you having to readjust your budgeting
just to afford the roof over your head?
Speaker 11 (24:39):
Yes? And I work two jobs. I make over five
thousand per month, and I could look make it.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
This Las Vegas resident I met in a North Las
Vegas parking lot is struggling to pay her mortgage.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
And she's not alone or just growth we've seen in
default activity. It has been in eight nine oh three one.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
A recent Lead Center report from UNLV shows notices default
have jumped over forty one percent since June of twenty
twenty two.
Speaker 12 (25:04):
Right now, consumers are feeling the pinch of living in
a high cost environment.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
That's Sean McCoy, executive director of the Lead Center and
co author of the report, says, several areas across our
valley have been hit hard.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Yeah, it's always the first place to get hit. Vegas
always gets hit first.
Speaker 6 (25:20):
The north Las Vegas, where Yolanda lives, leads the way.
So why is this happening? Analysts blame inflation.
Speaker 12 (25:27):
Consumers have paid gone through much of their savings. That's right,
and it's becoming increasingly more difficult yep to whether those
small bumps in the road with and.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
A lot of people digging into the four oh one
k just to get just to make ends meet.
Speaker 12 (25:42):
Other types of income sources they might have to help
mitigate the chances of missing a mortgage payment.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
Has there ever been a moment where you thought to yourself,
I can't pay my home payment.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Yeah, I think everyone's gone through that.
Speaker 11 (25:55):
Yes, I mean I'm coming close to that that, you know,
I question myself how it will be?
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Could there be another I wonder how much of Yolanda's
check is on the tables.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Though on the strip, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
I wonder how many machines she's hitting every night and
rolling on that crabs table.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
That's possible.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
You know what, Vegas is the only city where you
have to tell people why you're moving there. Like when
you say you're moving to Boston, nobody says why. But
when you say you're moving to Vegas, you always have
to say, Oh, the weather, the schools, it's inexpensive. And
you always have to say that because if you say
you move to Vegas and you don't say that, they
think you have a radical gambling jones radical and every
(26:35):
penny is going to the tables, so you always have no.
The kids, kids love it. The schools are great. Oh
the weather, you know I have art, right, is the
weather's terrific. Oh we've we're on fixed budgets. We're going
to Vegas.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
No, no, no, no, you're hitting the tables. You're hitting
the tables. I know you people, I'm one of you.
I know I know hitting those tables. Man. Ah, that'd
be tempting to live in Las Vegas.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
You imagine being you know, like like a five minute
drive from the strip. How often you would have to
You know, when you say to your wife, Hey, I'm
gonna run down and get a pack of cigarettes, she
knows where you're going.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
She knows, all right.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
That is one hell of an hour man chase and
the big bad vibes, horrible story coming out of Irvine.
We're covering it all right here on KFI AM six
