(00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you'relistening to the Conway Show on demand on
the iHeartRadio app. Thursday, we'llbe in Huntington Beach at Bjay's brew House
BJ's Restaurant in Brews. We'll bethere from four to seven. How might
get there early like a three pointfifty or so, and we'll be there
(00:21):
at seven o'clock. A lot ofpeople coming down from the station. You
get to meet people from the station. That's kind of a cool deal.
Bellio is promising to sign autographs, which is pretty rare. And Angel will
be there as well, so youmight see Angel and Bellio get into it.
It's possible, usually happens. Butwe'll be there in Huntington Beach,
(00:42):
two hundred Main Street Thursday, SoMonday, Tuesday, Wednesday and three more
sleeps and we're there. All right, Let's talk to Chris Adler. She's
with us. Chris, how youI'm good? How are you? Tim?
Oh? I guess you're doing betterthan the people own homes out of
the Pacific Peninsula. Huh along Portuguesebend and Palliser's Yes, you know I
(01:03):
heard you guys talking about the earthquake. I didn't feel it. But then
again, that area is always moving, so hmm, that's true. I
guess. So the people out there, they wouldn't know it's an earthquake because
their house are moving like a foota week, right, You're right,
it's up to twelve inches a week. And so you know, there have
been several different events. We sawthe Wayfarish chapels start to break. The
(01:26):
glass was breaking. It had tobe dismantled and potentially relocated at a new
location. The beaches were shut down, a new beach was even created tim
along Portuguese Bend because of the shiftingland, it's continually moving, but this
area has been moving for decades.Geologists say it's nothing new. But what
is new is the amount of waterthat we saw the last two years from
(01:48):
the torrential rain that we had.All those rainstorms have saturated the ground and
sped up the movement, and that'swhy we're seeing all of these events happening
now. So cow gas was alot the Portuguese Bend area. Today at
nine am they started shutting off poweror sorry, shutting off the service,
the gas service to these homes, about one hundred and thirty five homes as
as at around two o'clock, theywere still working on shutting down some of
(02:14):
the gas lines. I could smellthe gas in the air as they were
looking at different sites. It wasso strong and so those workers were just
you know, working to shut itoff. But the thing is tim these
the people living along Portuguese Bend arefrustrated because they didn't have much notice.
They received the notice on Friday,Monday it gets turned off. A lot
(02:35):
of these folks were elderly people, and I talked to a lot of them
and they said, you know, not everybody can't afford to convert to electric.
Not everybody can't afford to move. And there's no word on whether this
is permanent or not. Yeah,I feel bad for these people. I
mean, they have their dream house, they're overlooking the ocean, you know,
they can see Catalina, and andnow their whole you know, their
(02:59):
whole future is in jeopardy, rightand we saw we saw it even in
Rolling Hills Estates. There were abouttwelve homes that we saw literally just fall
down and just completely collapse. Andalthough that's not technically Rancho Palaceverdes, the
area, the geologists said, thearea the land is just so soft in
(03:21):
certain areas that it's in, it'sinevitable, and so people have some people
have lived there for decades, timinherited homes and bought homes and you're like,
you said, created these dreams. But so cow Gas came in and
turned off the surface because they seea potential catastrophic event if this land keeps
moving. The infrastructures that you knowin jeopardy, and so they want to
(03:45):
get ahead of it before that happens. Right, and there, you know,
damned if they do, Damned ifthey don't, if they don't shut
it off and all those homes burnedto the ground, then they're going to
get sued. And if they doshut it off, they're going to be
in the news people complaining all day. So they can't win, right,
And they did provide a twenty fivehundred dollars credit for these these these homeowners
(04:06):
for laundry, for to for mealsbecause they can't cook and they can't heat
their dryers, things like that. But you know there's people who are just
like, what do we do?Do we convert? Now? Do we
wait? They're kind of in limboand they say they're not getting you know
much response from SoCal Gas, butthe city says it will also be working
to help these folks out. Youknow, they've they've been in crisis for
(04:29):
for months now, and so thecity, the city's just kind of like,
Okay, here we go. We'llbe there to help you guys out.
You know. So it remains tobe seen what will eventually happen to
him. But you know, it'sconstantly moving that land up there. You
know what's got to be rough though, is you know if you live in
that area and you talk to yourmom or your dad who lives in New
Jersey and you're like, Mom,Dad, my house is you know,
(04:55):
it's it's it's moving. They're shuttingoff the gas and they're like, oh,
what city are you in again?Uh? Rolling Hills? Oh well
maybe you shouldn't have bought in RollingHills. Like no, no, no,
that has nothing to do with it. Mob. Please ah. You
know then you remember why you're laughinghere. Yeah, we hear that,
you know, when we when wepost the stories, we hear a lot
(05:15):
from people that are following and theysay, hey, wait, you know
it's rolling hills. They call itrolling hills for a reason. Why did
you buy a house on a hill? Why did you buy a house on
the cliff? But you know,I don't think anybody really thinks that that's
ever really going to happen. Butand there was one guy, there was
one couple that just closed on ahouse like a month before this all happened.
That's right, right right, Andso could you imagine that, you
(05:36):
know, it's just like your dreamhome. And I talked to a newlywed
who just bought a home up there, and they were like, this is
this was our dream to live hereon the peninsula, and now the dreams
are just you know, crumbling downinto the nightmare. It's a nightmare,
right, Christ coming on, Ireally appreciate you. You got it,
Tom all right? Chris Adler. There she goes, sutting off or shutting
(05:57):
off gas in the eye the RPV, I said, I call it Brancho
Palace, vertice area and rolling hillsthe States. Bad vibes out there.
I don't know what the outcome is. I don't know what this looks like
in five years, but I thinka lot of those homes will not be
(06:18):
around anymore. And those poor people, I don't know if they're insured if
the insurance covers something like that. But there are a lot of people whose
lives been turned upside down with nofault of their own, no fault to
their own, just horrible. You'relistening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from
KFI AM six forty. We're goingto be in Huntington Beach on Thursday,
(06:43):
so come on down. We willbe We'll all be there this Thursday from
four to seven pm at BJ's Restaurantand brew House. That's a two hundred
Main Street. Get there early.Seats might be taken. I'm just telling
you, all right. I'ported alittle bit about this on Friday, the
nightmare of trying to get to LasVegas on the northbound fifteen because of a
(07:06):
battery A truck filled with lithium batteriesflipped over, caught fire, very toxic,
and people are sitting in their carfor fifteen twenty thirty hours. You
imagine that, how the desert's onehundred and ten degrees and you're stuck in
your car break lines in the scorchinghot sun. That's been the only view
(07:28):
for thousands of drivers trying to getto Las Vegas the last two days.
I was stuck in my car foriving seven hours. Some drivers not taking
a four hour drive but turned intoa twelve hour ordeal ran out of gas,
and we're less stranded waiting for help. There were plenty of pars that
didn't run out, and that's whyit got even further back to a couple
of big rigs ran out of gas. Oh no, you know, you've
got to really fill up when youcross the desert in the summer. That's
(07:53):
on you. If you run outof gas. You've got to be you
have a full tank when you're runningthrough the desert in the sun. I
fifteen northbound near Baker has been closedin six am Friday because this truck that
was hauling six industrial grade lithium ionbatteries overturned and those batteries called fire.
You know what, And there shouldbe a new law if you're carrying lithium
(08:13):
batteries in your truck, you're goingfifteen miles an hour max. Not sixty
five where it can turn over. You got to slow that crap down.
Concerns over potential explosions and dangerous fumesfrom the burning chemicals. We are providing
atmospheric monitoring. I don't know whatthat is. I don't know. I've
been around a long time, notquite sure what that is. We are
(08:37):
providing atmospheric monitoring. Does that meandrones? We are providing atmospheric monitoring every
other hour? Does that mean airsamples? Why don't you just tell us
what it is? To continue toobserve a downward trend. Some like Concetta
Ellis and her entire band, whohave a gig in Las Vegas, left
La Friday thinking they'd get in early, but instead we're parked on the freeway.
(09:00):
My husband he wanted to turn aroundon the freeway and drive all the
way home. Yeah, I'm withyou. I think I'm the husband.
My husband, he wanted to turnaround on the freeway and drive all the
way home. Man, sounds exactlyexcepting I would say. And I said,
we just drove four hours this way. I'm not going to drive all
the way home and get back onthe Okay, okay, sweetie, Okay,
(09:20):
okay, okay, okay, okay, all right, Okay, that
was a bad idea. Okay, all right, we'll go, we'll go,
We'll go. God, And Isaid, okay, all right,
sweetie, all the way. Samething. Drivers seeking the detour on I
(09:41):
forty. I get sweaty, evenlike I was in that car with her
driver's seeking the detour on I forty. We're also met by the bumper to
bumper issues with the thousands of otherpeople who had the same idea. This
is a very long stretch and there'snowhere to go. There's no rearing to
the left, right, no restroom, no food. Tim, Well,
look, you knew it going in. There's not a mall on every eight
(10:05):
miles of that freeway. It sometimesgoes sixty miles with nothing, and you
sort of knew that going in.Nowhere to go, there's no rearing to
the left, right, yeah,no restroom, Yeah no, yeah,
there's not a bathroom every you twelvefeet on that freeway. Sorry, sorry,
restroom, no food, Tim Caputo, ABC seven eyewitnessed, Now,
nah, Tim got the short stickto go out and cover that thing.
(10:26):
What a mess it was. Again, all lanes of the I fifteen now
back, open them up, man, They opened them up. That is
cool. My buddy Sam Rubin isin the news. We miss him every
single day. I watched the KTLAmorning News occasionally when I'm up that hour,
and man is at a big lossto that show. He was a
(10:48):
huge part of that program. Theseventy six Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards held
last night at the Four Seasons,Beverly, Wilshire, and it was a
very touching night for KTLA. Ourvery own Sat Reuben won a posthumous Emmy
in the Entertainment News category for hiscoverage of the sag after strike last year.
And our news director Erica hill RonDriquez, who see at the podium
(11:09):
right there along with our whole kTILA team, was there last night,
all took to the stage to acceptthe award. Also, beautiful Sam was
also given the Governor's Award posthumously torecognize his legacy of more than three decades
in this business. That's a bigaward. Governor's Award, that's huge.
Our own Jessica Holmes and Erica Spilmanpresented the award to his children, Darcy
(11:33):
and Kolbe Rubin. And maybe oneof my favorite things about Sam, because
it's hard to pick, was thathe was a dreamer. Is one of
his kids and maybe one of mySames Jessica Holmes, And maybe one of
my favorite things about Sam, becauseit's hard to pick, was that He
was a dreamer. No dream toobig or too out of reach, like
telling Ted Sarandos of Netflix, Ted, what you need our live red carpet
(11:56):
shows, and I'm your guy. What he did every morning on the air
was amazing. Please save is that, Eric Spilman, I think it is.
Yes, it is. Every morningon the air was amazing. Please
save the show. I would askhim, and he would joke I'm not
sure I can, but invariably hedid. I hope he do how I
(12:16):
felt about him. Thank you tothe Academy for choosing to honor Sam,
if you please give that warm welcometo Sam's kids to accept the Governor's Award.
Sam's children, Darcy and colbe Reubin. Ah, that's cool. The
kids were there. Oh see themat this stage there. It was a
beautiful night, you know, tosee both of them and speak so eloquently
(12:39):
about dad. We hadn't heard fromDarcy publicly yet, so that was really
special to hear Colby again and talkso much about how his dad was present
in their life. I think isincredible, and how much they knew he
loved his job, and how thatinspires them to want to do what they
love in life. I think forDarcy, what was so bold of her
(13:01):
was to take us through the momentsshe learned about what was happening with her
dad, and she used the termblind optimism. That's what she had,
she said in the very beginning, and then the reality when the doctor came
out, and she just sort oftook us through the whole process of this
morning that she's gone through with herfamily. Sam's wife, Leslie was there
as well. So it was abeautiful night to remember Sam Rubin. And
(13:22):
again, any time the videos playand you hear Sammy's voice, right,
it was just sort of like rippingthe bandage off again. But everyone said
last night like he would have lovedthis, nothing more than this and to
keep going. And so so niceto see him honored by our industry in
such a really nice way standization andso much love to his family and his
(13:46):
wife and to you, Sam.I know you can hear us anyway,
Yeah, missaid Sam Rubin. Hewas a huge part of that morning show,
Sam Ruben. I have texts fromSam. I just saw him today.
I was going through texts and Ican't race, can't raise him.
I'll keep those forever. You're listeningto Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
(14:07):
AM six forty On Friday. Iwent out to Chatsworth after the show seven
o'clock to the Car Max out there. I looked around looking around for a
car that I thought I would like, and I did, but it was
late night. Second thoughts, Idon't know, but I like that Car
(14:30):
Max. I ran into a womanand she listens to the program. She
listens to KF KFI all the time. Lisa Schaffner is her name. She's
in. I guess if you bringyour car in, she'll tell you what
it's worth. What is that calledappraisals? Yeah, that's what she does
out there. So as for LisaSchaffner, Car Max and Chatsworth or Canoga
(14:56):
Park wherever that is. But that'sa beautiful play. I love it,
man, I love it. Andthen we had a a woman leave us
a voicemail. I don't know whethershe was complaining or not, but she
said, I'm she doesn't understand whyI say hot dog all the time.
(15:16):
And I said, okay, well, I don't know what what's her name,
Bellio, do we have a name? I'm this lady, this woman
hot dog, that's what she hearsall the time. So I imagine she's
got either a bad radio or she's, uh, you know, ninety eight
hot dog. May y'all change itto that just for her. That reminds
(15:39):
me of the Mickey Mouse Club wherethey go hot dog, Hot Hot Dog,
Hot dog, Hot diggity dog.I love that. My daughter,
Yeah, my daughter watch that allthe time. Mickey Mouse, playhouse,
Come inside, We'll play hot Dog, Got digging it dog, Hot dog,
God dog, Got nigga dog.She might be thinking of this girl
(16:03):
on YouTube or TikTok who wants topet that? Now you have you heard
that video? It's like that.Yeah, that little I don't know,
four or five year old girl,a bear comes up to their house or
cottage and she wants to pet thatdow dog. No, wow, she
(16:33):
really wants to pet that dog.But that's not a dog. A bear
eat her a lot. No,no, no, no, no,
the dog hot dog with that lady. And so after I went to carbacks,
(16:57):
I was driving home and I seea cop car in front of me.
I don't think anything of it.And I'm going southbound on I don't
know Winnetka or DeSoto Corbin. Ican't get those streets together. I born
and raised miles from there, andI can't get the Desto Winetka area down.
(17:18):
I don't know which one is which. So I'm driving by and I
see a cop car and then Isee some cones. I'm like, oh,
there's an accident. Maybe I shouldturn around. And then right as
I was about to do a Uturn, I see sobriety checkpoint. It's
right outside the CHP office or theCHP on a location on one of those
(17:41):
streets, either Desto or Winnetka orwhatever it is, or Canoga, and
I can't turn around because that's whenthey come after you. You do a
U turn approaching a sobriety checkpoint,you're done. You're done. So I'm
waiting in the in line to getyou know, soberized. And I haven't
(18:06):
anything to drink. You know,I'm not drinking and driving. So I'm
pretty relaxed because I'm just gonna, you know, drive through, show my
license and then move on. AndI showed my license and he said,
have you had anything to drink tonight? And I went no, but I
sounded like I was, I said, sounded like I had like five drinks.
(18:29):
And I didn't do it on purpose. I just kept practicing no as
I was approaching the sobriety jeckpoint likeno, officer, I have not.
Officer, I have not, Andthey knew. When you get there,
you get nervous. You had anydrinks nice or no? No? No.
He stares at me and he thinks, Wow, I'm probably too much
of a hassle. Let this idiotgo, And I said, he goes,
(18:52):
go ahead. He couldn't smelly, but he got closer to see if
he could smell any alcohol on me. And I'm not out there, you
know, drinking and driving. ButI did see them towing some cars away,
So that was a different night thansome people had planned. You know,
they're going to go out with friendsenjoy themselves. Now they're in jail
and their cars towed, and it'sgoing to cost them a boatload of money.
(19:17):
And the CHP they're smart. Theydid it right outside their station,
literally outside of the HP station. We used to give away the address because
they have to announce those checkpoints aweek in advance, and we used to
give away the address of where they'regoing to do them. Robin shut that
down, probably for a good reason, But I Remember I told a friend
(19:40):
of mine because I found out therewas going to be one on Havenhurst and
Ventura, and so I called abuddy of mine who lives right in that
area, and I said, hey, there's gonna be a sobriety checkpoint on
your corner on Saturday night, startingat six o'clock. And he goes Tim.
He goes, I never drink anddrive. I said, I know.
I'm just you know, tell youknow, your friends or anybody,
(20:00):
just to be careful and don't,you know, have a glass of wine
and drive down to Gelson's or whatever. And he goes, I'm not gonna
do that. So Saturday I senthim a text. I said, I
don't forget tonight checkpoint haven Hurst andVentura. And he writes back with the
middle finger. He gave me themiddle finger. He goes, Buddy,
I don't drink and drive. Isaid, okay, all right. He
(20:22):
calls me at nine o'clock. Honestly, God, this is the truth.
He calls me at nine o'clock andhe goes, Buddy, I had two
glasses of wine and I'm now stuckin this line. He said, I'm
gonna get pulled over and thrown outof this car and he did. He
got pulled over, he got askedabout how much he had and he said
(20:44):
two glass of wine and he wasunder the limit. But how dumb is
that? Where a guy warns youtwice not to do that, you blow
him off, say you never doit, and then you get caught in
that line. Oh that's crazy, just nuts, all right. The Olympics.
Everybody's watching the Olympics. I'm keepingin sort of a half eye on
(21:07):
it and half eye off it.It's at night and the games are you
know, while the time I watchit at night, the games are over,
so I could look up who won. I'm waiting for it to get
to LA where I can watch allthat stuff live. But it's too far.
The time difference is too much, and I'm not into it yet.
(21:27):
I will get into it, butnot quite into it yet. But you
know, they always add sports, you know, they always add different sports
every single year. I think thisone is skateboarding, so they've added that.
The two sports that they're going toadd in Los Angeles, which I
thought was cool, one is smashand grab. We're gonna have a smash
(21:48):
and grab contest for the Olympics. They'll set up a fake store and with
you know, jewelry and purses andmoney, and see in thirty seconds how
much you can lift. So that'llbe fun to watch. It's a real
sport. I'm not byesking it.That's gonna be a real deal. And
they're also going to do the Karencompetition, you know, the the ugliest
things you can yell at kids whoare walking on your beach. Now,
(22:11):
this woman is a front runner. Now, now you're in my property line.
Move it. Yeah, she's gonnahave to step it up just a
little. That's not aggressive enough. Now now you're in my property line.
Move it. So we got theKaren competition and the smashing Crab. So
(22:32):
that says something about us here.I get confused for Karen a lot.
Do you think I've got a shot? People think I look like a Karen.
No, you don't look like aKaren. But you don't think.
You don't even know. You don'thave the reaction of a Karen. You're
too upbeat and positive and all thatcrap. And I'd love for you to
be a Karen. I would adda lot of excitement around here. All
right, you yell at people?I mean no strangers. No, I
(22:52):
have before, but not like Idon't make it a habit of going around
yelling at people. Yeah, Idon't like it. I stay away from
that kind of crap. You neverknow if you can get shot, you
know, or or who's filming you. Yeah, by the way, this
is why I stopped doing it.I was up in Oregon about five years
ago, and it was the middleof winter, is like fourteen degrees blow
zero. And so while I waspumping the gas, I had my wife
(23:12):
and daughter in the car and wehad just started the car, so it
was still cold inside. So Ipumped the gas while the car was still
on. It was still you know, the ignition was on, the car
was on and it was running. And an old guy who is using the
other pumpy goes, He goes, young man, why are you Why are
(23:33):
you pumping gas in your car whileit's on? And I just went,
you know, why don't you mindyour own business? And he steps out
of the car. Off duty sheriff, off duty sheriff, and he said,
he said, young man, youare so lucky I'm not on duty,
and just got in his car andwalked away. What do we call
(23:53):
mail karens. Was there ever aname decided on that I skated there.
I don't know what the mail Karenis. I think it's I think we
we had toyed with the with theidea of uh steph uge. You didn't
like it, then, yeah,I don't know what the equivalent is.
I don't know. What's the kindof guy that yells at at other people?
(24:14):
What's the what would the name be? Roger Rogers? Okay, Gary,
I don't know, Bob, Yeah, maybe, I don't know.
We don't have the equivalent. Maybefor maybe for a reason, Reddit says
Brad. Brad, Oh, that'sa good one. Yeah, that's a
good one. What about Chad?Nah, Chad would run. Chad wouldn't
(24:37):
have any kind of contact at all. It might be John Is John a
good one? John's a horrible John'sa horrible one. Ye, this does
sound a little like you though, people are ye coming. Now you're around
your house a nervene. Yeah that'sall that sounds exactly like, yeah,
now you're in my property. Yeah, maybe Tim would be a good equivalent
(25:03):
to I love that. Yeah movie. Yeah, light their asses up,
those people. I can definitely getinto that. You're listening to Tim Conway
Junior on demand from kf I amsix forty. Hell yo, I don't
know if you know this, butour own Alex Michaelson won an Emmy Award
over the weekend. That's so awesome. Congratulations Alex. Yeah, he deserves
(25:26):
it. He does. He workshis ass off. He works very hard.
That is so cool. I sawhim up on stage giving the speech
and he's telling everybody, this ishow we did it. This is what
we do, this is how wewe won. We do this and this,
and you guys could learn from me, Well, how do they do
it? What could we do?Well? We couldn't do it. Let's
find that. Can we find thatspeech? Yeah, it's great. Our
(25:48):
folder already it is, Yeah, put it in there. Where the hell
is it? Maybe that's one thingwe could start doing, is what I
don't know. Well, you said, let's start doing something. What is
it? Looking our folder? Allit says issue is wins Emmy boom.
All right, I got it.Here we go. Fox eleven did take
(26:11):
Home and Emmy Saturday. So yousay Fox eleven. Fox eleven did take
Home at Emmy Saturday Night. Athleteswho served that, these athletes who have
the ability to do whatever they want, who don't have to do anything invest
their time and energy to lift up. The most vulnerable among us is that
(26:36):
Alex. Yeah, who is youtalking about? Athletes? That's not him
winning, isn't. That's right, that's Alex Michaelson there with his team.
Debbie kN Nick writes her up,all right, because it is a team
effort. The issue is team wonBest Sports Special for athletes who served.
Congratulations to Elex, Debbie n Nigand Bright Lindsay and director SABBATHZ and everyone
(27:00):
who worked on the show. Thereyou go, all right. In Sina,
we've got burglaries going on Incino. It's not good. A lot of
richies live up there, and youknow poor people want richie's money. Well,
we're learning for police that they've hadat least a dozen residential break ins
all in this same neighborhood within aone mile radius. And the burglars,
which appears to be a whole othercrew. The target small business own owners,
(27:26):
small independently family owned businesses like thePing Pong Chinese restaurant here on Venture
and Louise, take a look, you've never heard of that place? Is
that any good? The Ping PongChinese restaurant here on Venture and Louise take
a look at the pink turn Louise, I got to check that out.
Sounds great. Look at the video. At about six o'clock this morning,
the alarm started ringing at this popularlittle restaurant owned by a family. You
(27:48):
can see there. Who's ripping offa Chinese restaurant? Most people pay with
credit cards nowadays. Who's paying cashanymore for a restaurant? Police moving into
clear the restaurant at the suspects. They were long gone. They left behind
though a trail of damage, atrail of broken glass, and the family
will have to pay out a lotof money to have that door replace and
(28:11):
clear. What Yeah, that's usuallythe biggest expense when somebody gets broken into,
is replacing the front door. Youknow, three to five grand they
took. The owners haven't arrived hereyet. And then last night another home
was burglarized in the area of morePark and haven Hurst just around the card
You get that More Park and havenHurst. More Park and haven Hurst just
(28:32):
around the corner from here, rightnear Libet Park. Oh boy, that
