Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you're listening to the
Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Well Croze that's in date long hum update.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
So meryor Buds is telling you everybody that a suspect
and no confirmation on the suspect. But they have a
suspect in custody and right now they're near the corner
of Brenda and twelve, right in front of Brenda Middle School,
and they say that one person is in custody, not
confirm that it is the or just a but are
revolving around this around six seven miles from where Spartan
(00:34):
College is.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
So this guy with the timeline here three forty five
allegedly goes in, shoots up the place, shoots at least
two women, gets in his car, They got the license plate,
they got the guy's name. He probably drove straight to
Koreatown or Korea Town adjacent.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, probably listening to KFI.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
You know, you know, if you're gonna shoot a place up,
you want to know what's going on. You're not listening
to Coast. They're not covering we do. And he probably
listened to KFI on the way home and then Inglewood
cops probably called LAPD and said, hey, we know where
this guy lives. Can you just sniff around the neighborhood
(01:19):
and see if you can find this guy. They gave
him a description, they get a license plate number, and
they pull up and evidently the guy's in his car
outside of his apartment building. Man, oh man, not a
bright guy. Not a bright guy. You can't go home
(01:39):
right after you shoot people. I mean, nobody understands the
art of the run anymore. You gotta high tail it.
But this guy went what's the Fordigo Middle School? Right
Brenda Middle School? And so this guy evidently lives or
(02:01):
has another job or works right around where these cops
are near Inglea. Let's pull up Channel seven, there's Steph
Fush and see if we can get any more information.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Obviously, you have the one aspect of it where they're
searching for and it appears to have potentially captured the
suspect and the gunman in this situation. But you also
need to get all the information of what led up
to the shooting itself. And that's part of what these
officers are doing here on the ground, right outside the
college itself. They're going one by one and talking to
each one of these individuals. I count at least thirty
folks out here right now trying to get any information
(02:33):
they can. Obviously, with the suspect in custody, you might say, wow,
the investigation is over.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
That's not exactly how it works.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
You still have to piece together what led up to this,
how potentially he got onto the property, got into the building,
and what led up to the shooting. If there are
any words exchanged, or if anyone saw or heard anything,
No word at this point, if any of these folks
behind me were actual eyewitnesses to either of the shootings.
Two women were shot, were told woman's in critical condition,
one in stable condition in the hospital. But obviously any
information is important when it comes to the eventual prosecution
(03:01):
of this alleged gunman. In this situation, the street itself
is closed down. There's obviously a stand down when it
comes to the kind of active energy that was here
a little bit earlier when they were potentially searching for
a suspect. Now it appears they said easily an hour
ago that the suspect left this area six seven miles away.
Clearly he got fairly far from here, but not far
enough to get away from police itself. This seems like
(03:22):
it'll be an active scene for quite some time because
most of the street is still filled with police vehicles
as they continue.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Okay, all right, so we have that information. It looks
like they're wrapping up here. The two women are in
the hospital. This guy has the alleged shooters been caught.
But Crozier, I can't tell whether it's the gray car
or the white car. Was it the gray car they're
looking at?
Speaker 6 (03:44):
They said they were looking for a blue BMWM.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
All of those are BMW, but neither of them look
blue like you say one that.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
It could be a light blue and a very dark blue,
either one of those. But yeah, two BMW's right there.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
And then what happens here?
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Does he go into LAPD custom or does Inglewood come
pick him up and take him into custody.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
I don't know, or do they drop him off at
Inglewood on uh on the I don't know, I don't
know what that What happens here?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Uh, Dennis Zion would but he's uh, he's gone. So
l A p D is.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Gonna put this guy into custody, and I imagine they'll
take him downtown or to whatever precinct or division and
then they'll and then Inglewood will probably pick him up.
But he's going to be charged by the district attorney
in in California, in La County, and so he's, uh,
(04:37):
he's picked the wrong DA to do this with. You know,
the old DA, you could have shot a couple of
people up and they'd be like, you know, nobody was killed.
Let's give him a fine and you know, I clean
up a freeway or two. But now with this, with
this new DA, he goes. I think he's gonna be
(04:57):
pretty tough with this kind of crap. The we're going
to try to get this to reduce this before this
city gets a lot of visitors. We've got the World
Cup coming up, We've got the Super Bowl in twenty
twenty seven, and then we've got the Olympics in twenty
twenty eight, I believe. So we've got three major events
coming up and yeah in a row, yeah, all in
(05:20):
a row, twenty six eight, and they're going to try
to get this kind of activity to slow down.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Well, we have.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
Businessess way to do that. Get rid of some of
your cops.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah right, yeah, throw the cops under the bus and
everything will be fine. I don't know what's going on.
But wait, there's somebody speaking on channel seven. Let's go
back to seven here. I think it's from a LA
Fire department.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Department.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
He's about to give us an update with the latest information.
This will be the first time that I'm hearing from
the fire officials.
Speaker 6 (05:54):
Astley, Can you tell him we're live?
Speaker 7 (05:58):
Okay, good afternoon. My name is Engineer Jonathan Torres. I'm
the public Information officer for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
This afternoon at approximately three point forty our units were
dispatched here to the eighty nine hundred block of Aviation
Boulevard in the city of Inglewood to a gunshot wound.
Units arrived on scene approximately five minutes later. It was
(06:20):
a police standby, so we were on hold until we
were given the all clear by the local police department.
Approximately three minutes later, we were given the all clear
to enter the scene, where we discovered one and later
an additional patient. Both patients were determined to be in
critical condition. Both patients have been transported to local area
hospitals and the units as of now had cleared the incident.
(06:44):
As you can see. The immediate location is still under
investigation by the local Inglewood Police Department. Any additional questions
as far as that investigation is concerned, would be directed
at the Inglewood Police Department. If anyone has any questions
related to our role in this incident, I'll be ready
to president.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
They were both the victims women.
Speaker 7 (07:06):
I cannot confirm the sex or the age. I can
confirm there were two patients. They were both critical and
both were transported to local area hospitals.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
What were their injuries?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
What's the nature of their interest?
Speaker 7 (07:16):
So the call came in as a gunshot wound. My
assumption this was a shooting that is all still under investigation,
so I can't give any details related to that, but
my assumption is they were suffering from a gunshot.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Can you talk to us about the conditions specific of
the of the victims.
Speaker 7 (07:31):
What I can say is they were in critical condition.
That means immediate transport as soon as possible to the
local areas that which took place gunships, yes, yes.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
You can we confirm use a rifle or a handgun?
Speaker 7 (07:40):
That I cannot confirm, sir. That would be a question
better directed at the police department.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Were they conscious were you able to communicate with them.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
I personally did not see them. I do know they
were a gunshot wound. Whether they were conscious or not,
I cannot confirm that at this moment.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Have their conditions been updated in the.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
Since that would be something that the hospital and police
department are going to be aware of to just do
the transport to the hospital, at which point we come
back and try to do more effect more rescues here
at the see okay, the most.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Okay, they're gonna do a Spanish version of it now.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
And so the two have been transported to a hospital,
both in critical condition. We heard just one was in
critical condition. Mayor Butt said one victim critical condition, that
one was stable. Sore information, you know, it's probably somewhere
between those two. But they caught this guy, allegedly, this
guy that did this in near Koreatown, which is about
(08:37):
six seven eight miles from where this happened. And I
don't know if that's where he lives, where he's got
another job there, where he's got family members there. But
they got their guys and and a lot of it
was probably video videos everywhere, especially around campuses. You know,
when you go to visit a campus. You be shocked
(08:57):
how many times you're on.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Video every week. Campus has him now.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
High school, junior high, elementary school, colleges for sure. And
so they probably rolled through some of that video and
there he was. There's his license plate. They track down
where he lives, They probably tracked his cell phone. And
now he's going to be doing some speed wrapping with
Inglewood cops and Inglewood detectives and it's going to go
on all night. A cup of coffee and we're going
(09:23):
to go through it again and again and again and
again unless he lawyers up, and which he might, and
then he'll be held probably on a pretty steep bond,
may not be able to make bond.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
So he's going to be spending his weekend in the slammer.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
And they're going to try to get this kind of
crap to stop here in LA And I think one
of the ways is to throw the book at chaps
like this and then get that news out there that
this isn't going to be tolerated. All right, when we
come back, we're going to try something a little lighter here.
I know it's been a heavy day, but the Kentucky
Derby is tomorrow and I need I need the winner.
I need the winner, not I have not had a
(10:02):
great year at the track they called the release.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I need the release. I got to get the winner here.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
So we're gonna have a very talented handicapper come on
with us next and possibly make his couple bucks.
Speaker 8 (10:16):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on Demayo from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
So they found the guy allegedly who shot up the
college in Inglewood, allegedly, and now that is gonna be
a lot of investigation out there at Spartan College. All right,
Tomorrow is the Kentucky Derby horse Racing's biggest day, biggest party,
and we have one of the world's greatest handicappers with us.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Michelle U. Michelle, how you?
Speaker 9 (10:46):
Oh, I'm super good. That's such a nice introduction. I'm
glad that you I'm glad you didn't watch that I
need it today because you would not have said that.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
I know.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
But you know what, Michelle, Look, you have friends of
yours who are handicappers, and you know they get hot
and cold, but when they get cold for a long
period of time, it's like losing a best friend totally.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
You know, you don't want to talk to him anymore.
Speaker 9 (11:10):
You don't want to be cool.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah, you want to block him on your phone.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
You know, it's like, oh please, I can't afford any
more tips from you.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
But now, are you gonna be at sant Anita tomorrow?
Speaker 9 (11:22):
I am going to be at sant Anita tomorrow. I'm
going to be enjoying the jewlips that we have. I
am going to be judging a hat contest. Wow, I'm
gonna be yelling at my child for running in the street.
Please don't do that. Okay, it was I think I
talked about child labor. I might be okay with that
at this point. My son, he's running in the street.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
How is your kid? I don't know you had a kid.
Speaker 9 (11:43):
I have two. I have a nine year old daughter
and a six year old son. And my friend is
always at the races.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Oh that's great.
Speaker 9 (11:49):
I gotta buy his little jockey silks that he that
he got for Christmas. Okay, he's always in the in
the box and his little jockey silks.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
By the way, I love when you do interview news
with somebody who's not giving you anything and then you
just smoke them for it.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
You know, it's great.
Speaker 9 (12:08):
Thanks I appreciate it. Sure some people don't, but.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
You know, you like under your breath I could hear. Yeah.
By the way, I hope your course does a cartwheel
in the back stretch, you know.
Speaker 9 (12:18):
I mean, all we ask is just for a little
bit of honest.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
That's all right, That's right, that's it, that's all you want.
Speaker 9 (12:25):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (12:26):
Yeah, we're gonna we're having a great Derby party tomorrow.
Obviously the favorite for Derby was race right here at
Santa Anita. He won the Sandy Nita Derby. His name
is journalism, and so you can come out, you can
have a big celebration, you can get all gussied up
in your fancy digs. We can watch journalism on the
big screen. I haven't gotten the petition through to get
(12:47):
stuffies yet, but that's coming. But I think they're gonna
have T shirts.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Okay, so how many so total tomorrow we've got Obviously
we've got the you know, journalism, which is the big
story coming off of this sanity dirt that's gonna be
a huge story. Is that when do you start looking
at the form are do you look at the night
before or do you like to do it?
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Two three days up until the event.
Speaker 9 (13:09):
Well, I love the fact that they drew a week
out for this, right, So we have had GPS in
post position order for a week. So I have been
looking at it for a week. I've watched I've looked
at the pps, I've watched the race replays, I've watched
the workouts. I have talked about it with people at nauseum. Right,
so you know we have been looking steadily the Derby.
You kind of pay attention to these forces all year long,
(13:32):
and you know, going into Saturday, who you like and
who you don't like, regardless of of you know the
night before, what you might say. Now, the one chain
is going to be the weather. Right, they got a
huge downpour today. There was a delay in racing because
of lightning and the tracks of the oaks and it
being sloppy. Now it looks like it's going to rain
tomorrow as well. That throws a wrench into some handicapping.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Right.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
I do love Churchill downs though, because look, I love
sant Anita. But if it's you know, if it's raining
in Honolulu, they'll they'll wrap it up for the day
at Santannita.
Speaker 9 (14:02):
But in Churchill down depends we have different rules out
here than we have in Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I get it. But in Churchill down.
Speaker 9 (14:10):
Running the field.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Track, they will say, hey, there's a tornado coming. The
tornado will come, and then they'll they'll and then they're
off in the fifth race.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
They don't care.
Speaker 9 (14:19):
Yes, that is true. The only thing that delays them
is lightning, which is what happened today because I mean,
all these horses are getting into a metal starting gate
and they look for a piece of metal in their mouths.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
That's right.
Speaker 9 (14:28):
Oh yeah, if it's not lightning, they're not stopping.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
What is the big You know, there's always the sad
stories of a guy who's just beat cancer. He lost
his eyes, or his feet, or his mom in a
try terrible accident. They beat cancers, yeah, everything, it's always
the look what I beat? Now, I'm here at the
derby and then you know, you get beat by fifteen legs.
(14:51):
But is there an incredible story of a guy that
is beat death back and now he has a horse
in the race.
Speaker 9 (14:58):
I won't say he's beat death back, But about a
guy who's in his seventies, he's been training since the
nineties and he's here with a seventy thousand dollars horse
he picked up in Texas. It's the first year he's
ever had a horse run in a grated steak and
he qualifies to the Kentucky Derby. Doug O'Neill, how's that
for your feel good story? Doug O'Neil's only sixty five.
(15:20):
Come on now, don't be I'm tell him. You said that.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Great? All right, So give me.
Speaker 9 (15:25):
Ronny Riley cold battle right there for that story.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Give me your top pick, and then give me a
long shot because I need the release.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
I gotta get even.
Speaker 9 (15:34):
Okay, so my top pick is journalism. I hate to
play chalk, but honestly, his price right now was like
four to one, seven to two. I feel like, if
you're going to play a favorite that price, that's a
worthy play. I want to use Baiza coming in off
the Alsa Eligibles. He was runner up in the Santa
Any the derby team. He's nineteen to one Citison Bull.
If this horse hits a lone lead for Bob Baffert,
(15:56):
Cyonara Guys Cionara twenty or thirty to one, I'll say
that all day long. Hand over fifth with the Juvenile
Champion and Citizen Bowl, and I think sovereignty of all
the closer sovereignty to me is the horse that's going
to be picking up the most pieces. And I would
not be surprised to see Sandman leaving with a great, big,
(16:17):
huge check mark mark. Cassie's been having an excellent year.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Okay, so let's go through it again.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Top pick is journalism, and then and then the nineteen
horse is out of the nineteen gate is Bezi.
Speaker 9 (16:29):
Yeah, but he's number twenty one, okay, number twenty one, okay,
all right, but he's going to come out of the nineteen.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Gate, okay. And then who else was the third one?
Speaker 7 (16:37):
You like?
Speaker 9 (16:39):
Citizen Bowl?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Citizen Bowl? What number is that?
Speaker 5 (16:41):
One?
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Number one?
Speaker 9 (16:43):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I see it, okay, number one, okay, So all right,
so let's go with these three because I don't want
to confuse the audience. All right, So journalism the top pick,
number seven, then twenty one, and then number one eight.
Speaker 9 (16:55):
I think journalism is number eight, not seven.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Journalism? Oh yeah, sorry, coming out of the gates.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Seven A right, so you're right, number eight, okay, eight,
twenty one and one.
Speaker 9 (17:05):
Look, well I can't leave off eighteen eighteen on there
plain exact box with those four horses, you'll be.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Good, all right. That is great.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I hope you know you have a terrific meat and
you know the first leg of the Triple Crown. I
know the gates open early tomorrow and.
Speaker 9 (17:21):
First race, but early I believe seven thirty tomorrow we
can get so if you want to watch all of
Churchill downs, you can. I also want to remind people
that tomorrow the Preakness Advanced wagor pools do close at
three o'clock Pacific time. So if you want to pick
a horse and you want to get great odds on
them for the Preakness, you have to do that by
tomorrow at three o'clock as well. Okay, and you can
(17:42):
do it on your first bed.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
App all right. So there's limited reserve seats.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Also, barbecue attrack side Aprin is still available and admissions
only ten bucks.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Parking as always as.
Speaker 9 (17:51):
Free free, yep. And I'll be there coming hide to me, Yeah,
I will.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
And that's that's great. I'm glad you got the kids.
Are the kids interested in horsing horse racing at all?
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (18:00):
Yeah? Oh yeah. My kids talk to jockeys. They're at
the barn every single day. My daughter rides. My son
thinks that he's a trainer.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Oh that's great, excellent, all right, Michelle. I really appreciate
coming on. We'll see you tomorrow the track, Soundchell? All right?
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Michelle you she knows more about racing than any man
I know. And I would put up up against any
guy that I knew about horse racing.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Great energy.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
So it's people like that that will allow and expose
people in a positive way to horse racing that hadn't
been otherwise.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
You know what. But that and I'm glad you brought
that up.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
That is authentic because I've seen her at the track
where she wasn't like in a great mood. She went
on TV and that hits her again. I mean, she
always brings it, you know, great energy. It's trial and
I would I would bet one hundred dollars that Michelle
you knows more about horse racing and about horses than
Bob Bafford.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
How about that, I would go.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I would pick Michelle you over my friend Bob Bafford
when it comes to I like a twenty five question
twenty five questionnaire about horse racing history.
Speaker 6 (19:05):
I'm gonna tell Bobby said that.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
I'll tell Bob I said that and say, as a
matter of fact, Bob will probably say I'm not doing.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
It, so kick my ass.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
All right, So tomorrow, gates open at seven thirty eight
Santa Anita. I'll be there probably around seven fifteen, like
a complete degenerate or you know, sleeping in my car
waiting for those gates to open up. It's a big
day tomorrow at Santannita. You can bet the Kentucky Derby tomorrow. Oh,
it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
I'll see out there at the Great rape Play Race,
Great Race Place.
Speaker 8 (19:34):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
We have Oh.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
This feature is being brought to you by Advanced Hair
One Day Treatment, Life Changing Results. Get your one day treatment,
Life change Results. Make your appointment today at Advanced Hair
dot com. All right, all right, well listen to a
recap here on this, Spartan, this is the big story today. Crozier,
you got an A plus on this. Putting this all together, buddy,
(20:04):
you and Belly Oh man, you guys rocked it.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Michael Monks and Monks. Yeah, Monks was in on it too.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I mean, you know, you guys put every bit of
information we needed. And this whole story is rare, and
I'll tell you why. It started while we were on
the air and it ended while we were on the air.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Very rarely does that happen. You know.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
The first time that happened Beally, Oh, I think was
with you and Steve Gregory my very first day on KFI.
Steve Gregory and Sharon Belly were having lunch and there
was that gay porno actor who killed a guy with
a machete yep, and then went out to Chatsworth and
(20:47):
killed himself by throwing himself off the cliff. And that
story started at you know, eleven am and ended at
two pm. And we did it for three hours and
at all it started, continued and finished all within the
body of the show.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
We had another story that that happened.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
Do you remember the pursuit that ended at Chris and Pitts.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Oh, yes, yeah, it is hostage in the swat team
killing him.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
That also didn't that.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Yes, it started at seven and ended at ten, yes, exactly,
was three hours. It's pretty rare.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
So this is one of those stories that started and stopped.
And the long arm of the Inglewood Police Force, they
evidently they got their guy.
Speaker 10 (21:26):
One person now in custody following a shooting this afternoon
at Spartan College near lax Our investigator reporter Eric Leonard
has the very latest for us on this.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Eric, Hi, Colleen, and Michael.
Speaker 10 (21:37):
It sounds like detectives and police made pretty quick work
of this. They're shooting this afternoon, an immediate description of
the person and the car that was wanted that has
led us to what we're going to show you right now,
the scene on Barndo Street just west of downtown Los
Angeles and the Peico Union area.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Oh, I'm sorry, I screwed up there, just.
Speaker 10 (21:56):
West of downtown Los Angeles and the Peaco Union area.
LAPD officers appear to have a man in custody there
in the back of that squad car at the center
of your picture. And the car that he was removed
from is the car, as far as we can tell,
that was wanted from the shooting scene earlier today out
in Inglewood near lax Man.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Was that quick They got this guy pretty quick off
the street, so we can't hurt anybody else.
Speaker 10 (22:21):
As we were reporting this afternoon, Very quickly after that shooting,
law enforcement was sent out a bulletin throughout southern California
that had a name, it had a description, it had
a car, and it had a license plate. And it
was probably an hour or less after that that we
got word that this car that you're seeing there, the BMW,
and this individual were both detained west of downtown Los
(22:44):
Angeles after this pretty enormous effort by law enforcement in
response to that shooting. The investigation that we are seeing
in the Pico Union area is not the LAPD's handle.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
It's in their area.
Speaker 10 (22:56):
LAPD officers detained that individual found the car, but it's
going to be an Inglewood police case, so they are
just holding the scene down waiting for Inglewood Police Department
detectives to get out there and to pick up the investigation.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Okay, so that's how it's going to work. We had
some question about that.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
We thought maybe he would be taking it downtown, but not,
it's not going to happen. They're going to hold him
there until Englewood comes and picks him up and takes
him to Inglewood where he'll be doing some speed wrapping
with some of the better detectives out there at the
Inglewood Police Department.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
Unclear of what led to the car at this point.
Speaker 10 (23:26):
But given all of the attention on this and the
urgent need to find the person they believed responsible for
the violence today, this was a pretty terrific set of
circumstances that the person could have been anywhere in southern California.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
But you know, I think a crozier.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
I think how they found this guy is a lot
of these cop cars, I think almost all of them.
They have license plate readers, so they can just drive
around the streets of Los Angeles and every single license
plate is fed instantly through a computer and then a
buzzer goes off and alarm goes off when it gets
a hit. And I think that's what happened. Bang, they
got their guy. They got their guy, evidently and allegedly.
Speaker 10 (24:04):
And law enforcement appears to have been able to track
him down just west of downtown Los Angeles. Inglewood may
are confirming that a person is in custody, and again
they're just waiting for Inglewood detectives to get out there
and connect all the dots.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Back to you, guys, Eric, you said this is an
LAPD apprehension, But this that remains in terms of an
investigation with the Inglewood Police Department.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
That's right. I mean, that's where the shooting took place.
Speaker 10 (24:26):
Unless there are other circumstances that are just unknown to
us right now, it would fall to the Inglewood Police
Department to investigate. They have a robust homicide squad and
those would be the detective sent out to the scene,
especially if they've got somebody detained, as we have been
led to believe little bit to the.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Okay, so that's Eric Leonard.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Used to be here at KFI and now he's with
NBC KNBC. That guy does a great job. He did
a great job here at KFI. Always loved having him on,
and now he's working for TV. So more TV viewers,
less radio listeners. Is I think on his business card somewhere.
(25:06):
But that guy's great. That guy's a cool dude. All right,
well we come back. We got some sad news when
it comes to the Los Angeles Times.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
The Spartan College shooting is wrapping up. Two people were shot,
they found the perpetrator, they found the gunman allegedly who
did this, and so now the process will start on
what the relationship was, how that happened and how to
prevent it from happening again.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
That's what's going on.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
So Los Angeles Times has been hit by yet another
round of job cuts.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
This is horrible.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Fourteen newsroom staffers losing their jobs today. Those effected in
the layoffs were David Penn's Penaloza and also assistant edit
Breaking news team and art director Susannah Sanchez, investigative reporter
Ben Posten, and according to a person familiar with the cuts,
(26:11):
most of the other cuts were made to the paper's
feature department. I'm the source, was told, I guess the
sources here is the wrap dot com. In a statement,
Los Angeles Times Guild, their bargaining team, said it was
devastated by the news. This is the third round of
newsroom layoffs in as many years, and it will leave
(26:32):
Los Angeles Times even more decimated. Close quote quote today's
announcement of cuts, which could change the in the coming
weeks as we bargain over The efforts of the layoffs
represent six percent of the newsroom staff close quote. So,
based on that number, six percent, that means that the
(26:56):
LA Times would still have two hundred and thirty staff
members working for the paper. I know there's a lot
of people pissed off at the paper for the owner
telling people what they can and cannot write. But it's
still an important paper here in Los Angeles, and it
(27:18):
lost almost fifty million dollars in revenue. So I don't
know what happens if it goes away. I mean, I
don't know where what the newspaper is going to be.
And I don't know what newspapers are going to look
like in ten years.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
I don't know. I don't know. We'll find out them.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
All right, there's a mom Mother's day's coming up, and
now there's a Mother's Day or a mother bonus check
that you could get if you reproduce.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
How about that behaviors?
Speaker 1 (27:48):
And they pulled about one thousand US drivers and found
that eighty six percent of all drivers.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Admitted to oakes. And we asked, I don't think that's
the right audio here.
Speaker 9 (27:59):
Yes, I went to high school together.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Okay, that's the wrong audio there. But there's a mother bonus.
I evidently they're going to pay moms five thousand dollars
five thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
For having a new baby.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
And I don't know whether that's where the money's going
to be coming from. But it looks like it's going
to be a bonus, five thousand dollars baby bonus, and
it's going to convince moms to have more babies.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
And here's what it shows.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Americans are having fewer babies, with the annual birth rate
now standing near a record low. It's a trend that
has implications for the nation's long term outlook. So it's
drawn the attention of the Trump administration. The New York
Times is reporting there's a proposal where they're going to
pay five thousand dollars a baby bonus of five thousand dollars. Now,
(28:58):
it sounds like a good idea, right, But will people
have babies just to get the money. I'm sure that's
gonna happen, But maybe it's also the tipping point. Maybe
for other people they're like, oh, I don't know if
we can afford it, I don't know if we should
have a baby. And then wait a minute, five thousand
(29:19):
dollars that'll put us over the top, and maybe people
will have more babies.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
That's possible, that's possible, certainly possible. All right.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
The big story today, two big stories. We had the accident.
It was the result of a high speed chase on
the freeways of Los Angeles that ended up on the
two ten Freeway up near the two Freeway two ten
East right near the Glendale Freeway the two, and there's
still some lanes closed there.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
We've been on that all day long.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
And then right after we started talking about that, right
after we went on the air, almost immediately, we started
hearing commotion in Inglewood and there was a shooting at
Spartan College in Inglewood. Two women were shot supposedly or
evidently they're in critical condition, one's unstable, ones in critical.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
What we also heard that both are in critical condition.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
The gunman has been caught in downtown west of downtown
Los Angeles, near Koreatown. So that is going to be
a case that's in the story, that's in the news
for a while, and we'll find out more. It'll probably
be the lead story on two four, five, seven, nine
eleven as we watched the newscast tonight and over the weekend,
(30:33):
and then there'll be some more information on the guy
that was running away from the cops and what happened
to him. He died in that accident when he hit
that orange dump truck, and so we have those two
big stories, and you're going to hear updates tonight on
KFI obviously, but also you'll see video on the local
stations as well all throughout the weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Plus we have rain.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Coming in this weekend, probable rain for most of southern California,
maybe even some light thunder. And then the Kentucky Dirry
is tomorrow. Santa Anita opens their gates at seven point
thirty in the morning.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
That's where you'll find me.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Maybe not at seven thirty, but at some point tomorrow
I'll be at sant Anita looking to win and bet
on the Kentucky Derby. All Right, mo Kelly's up next
right here on KFI AM six forty Conway Show on
demand on the iHeartRadio app. Now, you can always hear
us live on KFI AM six forty four to seven
pm Monday through Friday, and anytime on demand on the
(31:31):
iHeartRadio app.
