Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you're listening to the
Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app AMI.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
AM six forty. Conway Show.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Let's get into the five ZHO five News with is
where we tell you stories the crew has put together,
and a lot of times they're more interesting the stuff
we do it on the air. Crows, you go first
because you had the best story of last week with
the draft story.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
So how would you know since you never heard the
rest of ours.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I know who you guys are, are crows? What's going on?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
So sometimes there are signs telling you the thing you're
doing just ain't your thing. A climber airlifted from Mount
Fuji and Japan has been rescued days later from roughly
the same spot for the same reason. The student from
China is living in Japan. He called for a rescue
last week because of altitude sickness. He made it about
ten thousand feet up. It's about twelve three hundred feet
tall the Mount Fuji is, so he made it about
(00:54):
ten thousand feet up. He called for a rescue last week.
I think it was like Tuesday or Wednesday because of
altitude sickness. On Saturday, He was airlifted again off of
the mountain after another climber came up on him and
found him unable to move because of altitude.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Sicknod.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Why was he up there four days later after having
to be rescued. He was looking for his cell phone
and other stuff that he left behind from the previous rescue.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Oh that's great, yeah, yeah, slow learners and non learners.
I'm putting him in the ladder category.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Did he find his phone?
Speaker 4 (01:25):
No word on whether or there is no penalty or
find by the way, for having to be rescued, But
some people are screaming for this guy to be charged
for at least.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
The second rescue. There should be even for the first. Yeah,
for all rescues. You got to pick up the bill,
all right, Bellia, what's going on out there?
Speaker 5 (01:39):
So all of the late season rainfalling on Sokel has
created the possibility of a really bad mosquito season. However,
vector control specialists have devised a way to reduce the population,
even though it may seem counterproductive. The West Valley Mosquito
and Vector Control is the first district in California to
release sterilized young male mesquite into the wild. The technique
(02:01):
has been so successful that the organization plans to release
even more in the Inland Empire. The method is supposed
to be environmentally friendly and it's a way to reduce
mosquitos and prevent the spread of disease. And although it
does seem counterproductive, they say that it does interrupt the
species reproductive cycle. Females mosquitoes will only mate once in
(02:22):
their lifetime, so any sperm that they receive from the
sterilized males will sterilize the eggs and they won't hatch.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
So other vector.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Controlled districts in La and Orange Counties are starting similar
pilot programs after seeing their success and the plan to
release sterilize mosquitoes into Hanga Sunland and Mission Viajo. People
experts say that while there will be more mosquitoes initially,
and as we've all learned from Uncle t Bones, the
males do not bite.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
It's the females that get you.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah, we'll get you every time.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, in mosquitoes and in humans. So thank you, all right, Yes,
lady step Booche.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
What's going on out there? Babo?
Speaker 6 (03:03):
So?
Speaker 7 (03:03):
One of Ellie's best sandwich shops is expanding with two
new locations called Breadhead, and they're going to open one
in Manhattan Beach, which is going to be opened by
May of this year, and then another one in Westwood,
which is still in the development. And here's part of
something I think you would like. King Taco is headed
to the West Side, So southern California Mexican chain. King
(03:26):
Taco's expanding with two new pickup locations on the west
Side in Venice and West Los Angeles, which both open
on May second.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Doesn't do anything for me. Oh, I got to have
the valley and there's no valley locations. I don't know
if anyone in King Taco knows this, but two million
people live in the San Fernano Valley, two million, and
we like Tacos. Let them know we like King Taco.
They've got to come to the valley. The closest one
(03:56):
is Glendale. It's not the valley side.
Speaker 8 (04:00):
It's a North Valleys, the Valley, East Valley, north Ridge
will be north deal right, right, right, And that's great Breadhead, right, yes, sir,
excellent angel.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
What's going on outside?
Speaker 9 (04:14):
So a lot of people apparently have a lot of
free time on their hands because they are googling fake
phrases to see how Google AI responds such ass and
well such as like this one.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Google.
Speaker 9 (04:36):
The example was that they googled the phrase what is
a duck dog?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
And so Google.
Speaker 9 (04:45):
Replies by saying, Okay, this is just a humorous phase
phrase and it's not intended to be taken literally. It
can mean a duck dog or a duck like dog.
And it had a you know, a a logical explanation
for a silly phrase that was entered. But then they
(05:06):
did the same thing again and it gave them an
entirely different response. So the second time around, it was
just saying, oh, it's like a hyper focused dog and.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Oh that's great. Yeah, so I, oh, may I dumb?
Speaker 9 (05:22):
May I dumb people for sitting there and entering these
phrases into Google to see what'll happen?
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Gets lastic? That's great? Alright, bye, Ritchie, you got anything to.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
You're just hanging, you know, a little bit of something something.
So Hurricane Harbor gets a major makeover ahead of its
thirtieth anniversary this summer. Guests visiting the water park this
summer can expect new additions that have provements to the
water park in honor of its upcoming thirtieth anniversary. The park,
which is adjacent to six Flags, Magic Mountain and Valencia,
(05:54):
opened back in nineteen ninety five, and it has gone
sweeping renovations, including restorate of the water slides, new landscape,
new food and drink options. The website was announced back
in last June. I believe so. The renovations also focused
on enhancing guests comfort by adding new lounge chairs, updated cabanas,
(06:14):
expanding seating areas and in enchants, restrooms, and changing spaces.
So Hurricane Harbor, Los Angeles will open to the public Saturday,
May twenty fourth at ten thirty am and run through
Labor Day. Tickets can be purchased online.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Is that a cool water park? I haven't been there.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
In a minute, because, you know, the water was kind
of shady, freezing.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I don't think I could go a water park in years. Yeallow,
for sure years years.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Last time I went to was what's the one in
right off the fifty seven.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Waters?
Speaker 10 (06:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
What to treat that was? I took my daughter and
her friend. They were both about ten years old at
the time we got there. It was about one hundred
and twenty degrees and all all every one of the
slides and rides were down because somebody threw the deuce
in every every single one.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Of them, insane, gave the peace sign.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Every one of them and so went Yeah, I went
to eat and everybody's out of food, so we split.
So that's my last fun day at a water park.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
I enjoyed that.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
All right, thanks everybody, appreciate that. Ding dong with all
of you, dig dong with you. The traffic is going
to be hell today. We'll come back and talk about
that because there are three major events going on in
Southern California to night.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
I know that there is. We'll come back. I'll tell
you what they are.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
But there's a big night here in southern California. So
if you're second traffic, you are not alone. There are
a lot of people trying to buzz around and three
big events. Will tell you what they are and come back.
We're live on KFI.
Speaker 11 (07:55):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
We have a lot going on in Los Angeles tonight.
So if you're stuck in traffic, you are not alone.
Well that's why you're in traffic, because you're not alone.
But the Dodgers are taking on the Miami Marlins, very
popular Major League Baseball team, Miami Marlins, and that'll be
happening at seven to ten pm at the stadium Chavez Ravine.
(08:24):
But there's also a concert going out going on tonight,
two concerts, two big ones. Beyonce the Cowboy Carter Tour
is at SOFI Stadium in Englewood. That'll there'll be one
hundred I don't know, maybe seventy five thousand people out there.
And then we have I hope I'm pronouncing this right,
is it Raul Alejandro Alejandro?
Speaker 12 (08:47):
Right?
Speaker 3 (08:49):
It's like r A WL roll.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
All right, r a U W Raul Alajandro.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Yeah, And that's going to be at the end to
it though, So Angel, what's going on with the free
Are people packed in Inglewood now trying to get to
these events?
Speaker 8 (09:03):
Are not?
Speaker 9 (09:04):
It's already becoming very busy. I've been keeping an eye
on the one ten freeway, and I mean that's always
a tough spot, but it started backing up and come
I'm seeing these waves of traffic coming go from the
four oh five all the way into South LA.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Right now.
Speaker 9 (09:24):
It's not looking too shabby, but just maybe I don't know,
fifteen minutes ago, it was starting to fill in through
that stretch. Right now, I'm seeing delays out of South
la from about Vernon as you make your way towards
the five into Alesion Park, but then around Inglewood, you know,
rounding to a dome and Sofi Stadium. The one oh
(09:45):
five has just been solid and it's backing up all
the way out of El Segundo now.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Suppulvitable yard.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Yeahs FSA B all those words. Oh that's worth all right,
Thank you, Angel Martinas. By the way, did anyone come
out and see you yesterday at that festival you were at?
Speaker 9 (10:06):
Oh my gosh, yes, it was just so many fans
of the Conway show came out to say hello, and
so many of them there was. There was a gentleman
named Tim It was gosh, there's a huge list. But
thanks to Christa. She threw down for some sandals and
we were twinning with our flips. She got some that
(10:27):
worked a lot like mine, and she loved them.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Somebody said that, and I got this secondhand. But somebody
who was a ka if I listener, ripped something.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Off from you. Is that true?
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Timmy, come on.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Sold something walked off with some flips.
Speaker 9 (10:44):
They stole my heart.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
That's great. Anybody was a pension show up, not that
I know of.
Speaker 9 (10:51):
They weren't being obvious about it.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Okay, that's what they were trying about.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
But I heard it's a huge crowder yesterday and Data Point.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Oh it was.
Speaker 9 (10:58):
It was a huge crowd at the Redo Market.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Just a great show.
Speaker 9 (11:03):
And thanks to all the listeners that came out to
say hello.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
There was just a ton of them.
Speaker 9 (11:07):
It made the day go by really fast, so thank
you all excellent.

Shooting, boil high. Not good, not good.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
We're getting ready for the World Cup in the Olympics
and we can't control the city in this southern California area.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
How are we going to invite the world?
Speaker 11 (12:09):
Now?
Speaker 13 (12:09):
We go to Boyle Heights and Chris Christy live at
Air seven.
Speaker 10 (12:12):
Chris, we're hearing multiple people potentially shot here.
Speaker 13 (12:15):
That's right, Mark, We've pud to at least three people
hurt in a reported shooting here at North Soda and
Follshom Street, the four hundred block of North Soda. You
can see several ambulances on scene. They all appear to
be non life threatening injuries, and it appears that that
shooting took place inside of the residents right there in
the center of your screen. Details are few, but the
LAPED now launching a major investigation.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
All right, We've got that going on.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
And then over the weekend, the home invasion in Woodland Hills.
Gotta be careful in Woodland Hills seems to be attacked
a lot.
Speaker 10 (12:46):
Unfortunately, a violent break in turn deadly here in Woodland Hills.
And as you see, this is a very peaceful, nice neighborhood.
And it appears as well that those suspects actually took
the surveillance cameras from the victim's home, as well as
a doorbell and a keypad to the garage.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Three men are behind bars.
Speaker 10 (13:05):
However, neighbors tell me they are still very shaken up.
A deadly home invasion has this quiet neighborhood feeling on edge.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
It's terrible.
Speaker 10 (13:13):
Everyone is getting robbed, cars are getting broken into, there's
homeless people in the parks.
Speaker 14 (13:19):
It's absolutely insane. You would never think to see this
in a neighborhood like this, and seems to be a
stranger how ticking crime we just got here, so we're
definitely concerned about the neighborhood.
Speaker 10 (13:28):
Just after midnight on Saturday, officers rushed to this home
on Della Osa Street. They found forty seven year old
Alexander Metobodzi badly beaten and suffering from a head wound.
Neighbors talked as long as we kept their identities anonymous
for safety.
Speaker 12 (13:42):
He had a Doberman pincher he was always out playing
with it. Rode his bike with the dog running along
on a leash, always very friendly, seemed like a very
nice guy.
Speaker 10 (13:54):
Detectives say the suspects broke in, held Motabodzi captive and
beat him severely before or stealing his property and taking off,
but their escape didn't last long.
Speaker 14 (14:04):
That's a little bit stress relieving, a little bit. But
the fact that there's been robberies around the corner here
and all this, it seems like just a little too much.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Yeah, it seems like Woodland Hills is getting attacked night
after night, and I don't understand it because it's it
seems to be a community that's hard to get in
and out of. You know, there's a lot of streets
that are winding in that area, a lot of you know,
cul de sacs, dead end streets, and if you don't
know that area, I guess.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
With ways you can get around anywhere.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
But it seems like a very safe area to live,
where everybody knows their neighbors.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
And yet it happens with help.
Speaker 10 (14:43):
From the FBI, LAPD detectives track them down in less
than a day. Once you hear that, with help from
the FBI, LAPD detectives track them down in less than
a day.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
How'd they do that? How they do that? Well, they've
got away.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
They got a way to track these guys down now,
and you're going to see this more often than not
where there's a crime. Look, if nobody gets killed, they're
not going to put you know, nineteen of their best
guys on it. But when somebody gets killed, they put
the best detectives on it. Uh Alan Hamilton, the chief detective,
he puts his best guys and gals on it. They've
(15:22):
got equipment, they've got ways to do it, and they
find it immediately.
Speaker 15 (15:25):
Now.
Speaker 10 (15:26):
One suspect caught in Sherman Oaks, the other two in Glendale.
The men identified as Potai kosh Lavilli Zaza atosa Villi
and Bosiki kuts of Chevilli.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Wow, they all related.
Speaker 10 (15:39):
The men identified as PoTA kosh Lavilli Zaza.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Seems like a coincidence if both those guys have the
same sort of not traditional US.
Speaker 10 (15:51):
Names PoTA kosh Lavilli, kosh Lavilli Zaza at Vilivili.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
And Bosiki Kutzo Chevilli coaches, Chevilli ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 10 (16:02):
The Chevelis are now behind bars facing murder charges and
held on two million dollars bail each.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Neighbors here worry about increased crime.
Speaker 10 (16:12):
In a different incident, just last week, these neighbors say
their home was ransacked and their dog terrorized, and.
Speaker 15 (16:19):
He peede his, and he peede in his cage, and
he stole a bunch of my purses and jewelry.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Wait a minute, who peed in the cage? The guy
robbing the place.
Speaker 15 (16:27):
And he peede his and he peede in his cage,
and he stole a bunch of my purses and jewey.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Oh, so the guy robbed the place, pete in the
dog cage seems like an odd gentleman, even for southern
California standards.
Speaker 10 (16:40):
These neighbors say their home was ransacked and their dog terrorized.
Speaker 16 (16:44):
And he peede his kid.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Oh, the dog peede in the cage.
Speaker 15 (16:47):
Okay, and he peede his, and he peed in his cage,
and he stole a bunch of my purses and jury
a bad dog. It was all just very very unfortunate.
Speaker 16 (16:55):
It's a problem here, and the residents are very, very
very scared. I'm concerned putting my house up for sale.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Oh no, that's not a good look for Woodland Hills,
s heared.
Speaker 16 (17:06):
I'm considering putting my house up for sale.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
You got to turn this around.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
You don't want property values to go down in Woodland Hills,
because they will if this crap keeps.
Speaker 16 (17:16):
Up, considering putting my house up for sale.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Wait, was this the woman we heard from before? Let
me see if this is the same woman who we
heard from before. Let me go back to where was
it here? I think this is it here.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Everyone is getting robbed, cars are getting broken into.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Okay, she's talking about Woodland Hills, California, beautiful, beautiful place.
Every house up there is way over million dollars.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Everyone is getting robbed, cars are getting broken into. And
there she is, and we hear from her later on
in this story.
Speaker 16 (17:49):
Are very, very very scared. I'm considering putting my house
up for sale.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Same woman, same woman, Sam and John.
Speaker 10 (17:56):
There are still so many questions. Police have not indicated
if that murder victim was targeted, and also if there
was a motive in that case. We're gonna exactly see
if those answers come forward in the next hour or so.
We're gonna check in with police officers. Needless to say,
neighbors have been telling me that they are terrified, and
they would love to see more police officers and patrols
(18:18):
here in Woodland Hills.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 11 (18:21):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from kf
I Am six forty.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
It is the Conway Show. Perhaps you're on your way
to the concert. Beyonce tonight is performing and Bellio is
doing that dance. If you like it, then you ought
to put a ring on it.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
If you like it, then you like that song.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
I really do like that.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
You're a you're a throwback Beyonce fan. You like the
older stuff I do.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
I don't know a lot of our newer stuff. Yeah,
but I'm sure it's great.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
What's another big hit Beyonce?
Speaker 11 (18:59):
If you like it, then you single?
Speaker 17 (19:00):
Ladies.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
I love Destiny's Child. All of those songs are great.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Oh that's right, choose what Destiny's I forgot about that?
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Yeah, that was all those Did she sing that?
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Don't Go Chase and Forever? I like that song.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
That's a great song.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Yeah, Don't go Chase and Waterfalls. Listen to the rivers
and the lakes that you used.
Speaker 17 (19:29):
No, I don't want no scrub, scrub.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I can't get no love from me. Hanging out the
passenger's side of the best friends.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Right, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey hey, we can't
put we can't play Beyonce.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
That was TLC.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
I can't play TLC.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
You weren't we were singing it.
Speaker 11 (19:49):
Oh was that you? God?
Speaker 2 (19:50):
It was so good. I thought it was on YouTube. Wow,
wait minute, that was you and Richie.
Speaker 10 (19:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:57):
No way, yeah, because I can't seeing there. I thought
you were playing it on YouTube. No, it was huge
in Mexico. You're what huge in Mexico? You're huge in
Mexico and Japan. I didn't know that, buddy, Well, we
should go to Mexico. I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
I was watching Channel four News with my lovely wife
and Carolyn Johnson is back, which is great.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
She had a battle with cancer. I'm glad she beat that.
I like her a lot. And she was out with
Colleen Williams.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Carolyn and Colleen, and I said to my wife, like, hey,
look at this, the two seas are back. And she goes,
don't be an idiot. I said, what, because you know what,
don't act dumber than you are. You're already pretty dumb.
And I said, and I thought, what letters can you
use to describe two women doing news if they were
(20:50):
both had an A. Could you call them the two
a's no, the two b's no, definitely not, the two
c's no. What about the two d's no, two f's no,
two n's, two o's, oh, maybe two o's no. Could
(21:11):
you call them two p's no, two q's no. To
t's absolutely nice, that's a nice one two v's no,
two x's no, two z's.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
You get in trouble for that.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
I did get in trouble with that, and I and
I and I told everybody it was a mistake, and
nobody believed me, and I felt really bad about them.
But Bill Carroll was on the station, and he's a
nice man, and he was on in the afternoon, and
I was filling in for a show that came on
before his, and I said, stay tuned for Bill Carroll
(21:50):
to Bill Carroll two r's, two l's, because in his
name there's two rs and two l's, and I think
Gina Grad came up with them, So stay tuned for
Bill Carroll two rs, two l's, two z's. And we
went off the air, and I got called in them
into the po in the program director's office and says, hey,
(22:10):
we don't do that here.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
You're not going to attack Bill Carroll on the air.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
I said, what did I say? And she goes, you
know what you said? And I left the building, not
knowing what I did. We don't do that here, Yeah,
we don't. We don't do that here. We don't attack
other shows. And I said, all right, but I don't
know what I said, and she goes, you know, And
I left and I got home and I and I
called to him. I go, hey, what did I say
that got me in trouble here? You said two r's,
(22:35):
two l's, two z's. I said, Oh, it was by accident.
I just picked up two letters. I had nothing to
do with somebody falling asleep during the Bill Carroll show.
Nothing it really, It was just but George just rolling
with it.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
No, No, it was just I just picked a letter
that wasn't RS or L comedic effect and z's are
funny letters.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yes, I don't know what happened.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
If he doesn't spell his.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
Name, why, No.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
And I didn't do it on purpose. I liked the guy,
would never attack him like that at all.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
So if Bill's listening, I apologize again for like the
one hundredth time, one hundredth time.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I apologize for that no more.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
All right, if you're stuck in traffic, Beyonce, Beyonce is
at so Far and that's a big concert tonight.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Then you got Raul Raul Alejandro.
Speaker 11 (23:29):
Do you know who that is?
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Kruzer r A u W do not Raul A are
you rich?
Speaker 11 (23:37):
You know who that is?
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:40):
The only thing I know about about him? And you
know you can you know correct me if I'm wrong.
But isn't he that Puerto Rican singer? Yes, that's him,
that's him, right, yep. And he's very popular.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
He is very popular.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Then he sing that song Puerto Rican Girls has Just Died?
Miet youa, Yes, that's the one. Yeah, that was Mick Jack.
No Crozier, You're so out of it, Come on, man,
come on. But he's hugely popular. He is very popular.
I'm not the biggest fan of his, but many people are.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
But you'd go to the concert, would you?
Speaker 9 (24:13):
No?
Speaker 8 (24:14):
A right?
Speaker 2 (24:14):
We there you go lost out on Richie Richie's money.
Speaker 11 (24:18):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
Am sixty.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
All right, let's talk about these way moos. Everybody is
talking about waymos. The driverless cars. They're all over the place,
mostly in Santa Monica, but they all have to go
get recharged, and they're all going to the same block
in Santa Monica, and they charge, you know, in twenty
four hours a day.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
So the neighbors are pissed. They used to live across
the street.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
From a I don't know, an apartment building or a
house or an empty lot, and now it's a twenty
four hour day waymo car business. And he keeps them
up all night with these reverse noises and the noises
that these cars make. It's driving people crazy.
Speaker 18 (25:06):
Maybe you've seen a Weimo on the road, maybe you've
even taken them. They are driverless taxis. But the neighbors
that live next to this charging station say that here
at Euclid and Broadway, the noise that these weymos make
a particular sound is a nuisance.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah, here's the sound that they make twenty four hours
a day, right across the street from you. Has anyone
on the show taken a Weymo?
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Richie? You probably you're you're a thrill seeker. Have you
taken a weymo? Is anybody have you? Steps?
Speaker 11 (25:42):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
I haven't either. No, i'd like to, but I'd definitely
do it. I'd do it in a heartbeat. I might
do it tonight.
Speaker 6 (25:49):
I've seen people are like on Instagram they post They're like,
no driver, this is creepy.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
But can you take them anywhere? I don't know. I
think it's like limits. Its certain areas in LA.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
You know, do you get one in Santa Monica. You
can't say take me to Cleveland. That's not going to happen.
Pretty expensive. Yeah, it could be expensive, but it could
also be a great YouTube, So think about that as well.
Speaker 18 (26:10):
It's the backup noise. You just heard it there. Several
neighbors and apartments surrounding the law tell us they think
it's noise pollution. They say it's a consistent sound every
time a weimo backs up right near their home, and
for some especially at night, they can't sleep. It keeps
them up. They say, that's when the weymos seem to
be actually the most busy. One neighbor started a change
(26:32):
dot org petition, which states in part ooh, I didn't
know that started a change dot org petition which states
in part.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
Wow, one of them started at change dot org position,
which is the nineteen seventies equivalent of I'm writing a letter.
Speaker 18 (26:48):
The new WEIMO station has turned our once peaceful neighborhood
into a hub for noise pollution, an incessant disturbance that
hinders both our twin quiality during the day and our
peace during the night.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Yeah, you know what I'm with, these neighbors. Those waymos
should be charged, Like, isn't there enough room? It's Santa
Monica Airport. I don't think getting rid of that airport.
And there's plenty of space out there. It could be
in a hangar that they don't use anymore, and these
cars can go over there and do that.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
They have to do it right in the middle of
the city.
Speaker 18 (27:14):
Here are some neighbors we spoke to.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
All right, here come the neighbors.
Speaker 17 (27:18):
Yeah, it's one of the most annoying noises I can
think of.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Immediately, that guy has not been around very long. If
that's one of the most annoying noises you can think of.
Speaker 17 (27:26):
Yeah, it's one of the most annoying noises I can
think of.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Ah, that guy needs to get out. He's not heard
enough noises.
Speaker 13 (27:32):
Uh, you know, the Amazon trucks kind of have it
figured out, But these ones are obnoxious.
Speaker 17 (27:36):
It's like they do it on purpose. It is annoying,
especially we both work from home. He's a social media
content manager, and then I'm a Customer Success Specialist.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Wow, I guess that's the way of the future. Everybody
works at home and they have got these odd titles.
Speaker 17 (27:50):
He's a social media content manager.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
The social media content manager.
Speaker 17 (27:54):
I'm a customer success specialist.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
A customer success specialist.
Speaker 17 (27:59):
I'm a customer success specialist.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
I have no idea what that is.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
A customer success specialist. Is that a guy who just
deals with outraged people.
Speaker 9 (28:09):
Probably it sounded like he almost started laughing when he
was revealing his title, right.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Because he knows it's ALBS.
Speaker 10 (28:16):
You know.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
I bet he doesn't tell his parents that.
Speaker 17 (28:18):
I'm a customer success Specialist.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
I bet he tells his parents. He's like playing for
the Rams or something.
Speaker 17 (28:23):
I'm a customer success Specialist.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
He's like, I delay that on Dad.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
You're gonna call dad in Indiana and tell him, you know,
Dad's had a blue collar job, you know, dirty hands,
clean money job for it seat of Grandpa and great grandpa,
and then you're gonna tell.
Speaker 17 (28:38):
Him you're I'm a customer success specialist.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
A customer success specialist.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Right, all right, well, have a nice Thanksgiving with dad
and Grandpa right outside of Indianapolis.
Speaker 17 (28:48):
So I have to deal with this noise. Every time
I'm like on a call with someone and put the
reverse beeping.
Speaker 18 (28:52):
It's very loud and not everything's still quite so that
sounded at these It's just really really loud.
Speaker 17 (29:00):
Can't even have our windows open.
Speaker 18 (29:01):
Some neighbors we spoke to assigned on to that change
dot org petition. Some didn't know about. It has about
forty two signatures.
Speaker 17 (29:07):
At last check.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, not enough.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Forty two signatures is pretty light in the change dot
org game.
Speaker 18 (29:13):
A Santa Monica City PIO public information officer telling me
in an email they have been working with WEIMO to
resolve the concerns, and they say that the city's enforcement
Code Enforcement has visited the site repeatedly to assess whether
noise codes are being violated. Some challenges the city notes
they say they have no jurisdiction to regulate waymo's operations,
that autonomous vehicles, LAT and robotaxi services are exclusively permitted
(29:38):
by the state.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Yeah, it's not a local city or county, it's a state.
Speaker 18 (29:41):
Deal in California by the California Public Utilities Commission and
the DMV.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Yeah, the state controls then, But why can't the waimos
just shut off their noise while they're recharging?
Speaker 2 (29:51):
You know, because what are they going to back into
another weimo? Who cares? They should?
Speaker 1 (29:56):
They could just shut that noise off while they're recharging.
They're done solved, Next, they say.
Speaker 18 (30:01):
Another challenge is that federal regulations require all hybrid vehicles
and evs to beep with backing up.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah, but not when they're charging. There's nobody else in
a lot other than other way.
Speaker 18 (30:11):
Moos at a volume sufficient to alert pedestrians or someone
on a bicycle. Back out your live.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
I hey, Steps, you're still in the in the driver world,
aren't you. Are you still with lyft and yes sir?
And who who else you with Uber? Uber and lyft yep?
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Are people worried about this in that world?
Speaker 8 (30:34):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (30:35):
It's kind of like back and forth because there are
people that are worried about it, that are been driving
for so long. But there's so much hesitancy to wanting
to take a driverless car. And I think I was
telling Richie, I was like, I would just do it.
For the experience. I don't necessarily need to have a
driverless car, but it'd be kind of cool to say
that because I drive past a lot of them. I
go through downtown LA on my way here, and it's
(30:58):
such a trip. When I you'd line up next to
them and there's no one in that car, it's great.
And then you see them turn to make a right
turn or the turn signals, Like that's a trip. It's
unbelievable technology. And I by my experience with Weaimo is
they they're always the slowest car on the road, always
the slowest car.
Speaker 11 (31:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (31:16):
I was behind one one Saturday night in Santa Monica.
I was on a residential street and they won't even
going the speed limit. They were going like seventeen miles
an hour. Like, okay, you don't have to be this safe,
come on now.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
But it truly is amazing the technology that a car
can get around the city with all the different obstacles
and pedestrians and bicycles and cars and do it safely.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
No, absolutely agree, It's remarkable. It really is great. I
like to take awaymo. We should all take away Moo.
Let's go out and take AWAYMO as the hell, do
they have station wagons or bigger cars? The jack was
pretty big station station wagons, the big station stations, sending
the way back. Yeah right, sit in the back and
you know, goofa on the driver list guy, Well, there's
(32:02):
no guy in there, cause man, that's I think that's
the way of the future. It's got to be so
if you if I was a lyft guy, I'd be like,
oh man, I'm being replaced by nobody.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Nobody.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
