Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you're listening to the
Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
We had so much breaking news I was unable to
tell you about the New Vegas casino games.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot all about it.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, well we had breaking news. Yeah, and the National
Guard is moving out of Los Angeles, and Mayor Bass
said we can all sort of rest easier here, even
people who are undocumented, which is a lie because the
National Guard has nothing to do with ice or border patrol.
So I don't know why she said that. So the
new game, and then we also had the Murder, Double Murder,

(00:37):
and Encino, So we've had a lot going on here,
but in lighter news, in news outside of La where
everyone is a little less crazy. In Las Vegas. It
was a brand new game. Are you familiar with the
game Uno? Do you remember playing Uno? I remember Uno,
but I don't remember how it's played. Yeah, I'm with you,
I'm with you. But now it's who's that me? Uh croche?

(01:00):
Oh Steph Fuo?

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Oh yeah, Steph's.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
A champion Uno player. I'm a waiting what is Uno?
How do you play that?

Speaker 5 (01:09):
So it's Basically, it's a card in uh, it's a
number games, so you have to match numbers and colors
into the pile that gets get that gets drawn.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
So is there could you gamble on it? I mean
would you?

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Yeah, we used to play for for money in my family.
We got real competitive.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Really. Oh yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Are you any good at it? I was pretty good.
We want to take it a well, well we'll bank,
let's roll, let's go, let's do Angel.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Were you an player? Oh?

Speaker 6 (01:41):
Loved Uno? I still do. I play it when I'm
around my family and stuff. It's so much fun.

Speaker 7 (01:46):
Meyb we should have a playoff between Uno expert Steph
and you know, expert Angel.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
What about you, Belly? Are you big Uno player? You cribbage?

Speaker 6 (01:56):
I used to love to play Uno. I haven't played
it in a while.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
What about you crowzy?

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Big know?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah all my life? Man? Does it mean one in Spanish?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, that's the goal. You got to call it out
when you got one card left. If you don't, oh
that is ah right, Well it's not going to be
available in Las Vegas tonight.

Speaker 8 (02:13):
We're looking into a story that started getting buzz over
the weekend. Draft Kings posted the beloved card game Uno
is officially being added as a table game in Lost
Vegas casinos.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
I wonder if you'll be playing against the house or
against other players, like you play poker against other players.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, but if it's a table game, then you're playing
against the house.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Let's find out, shall we.

Speaker 8 (02:33):
Yeah, okay, but that's not happening. The Poems Casino is
temporarily opening the Uno Social Club, complete with a dealer
to shuffle and distribute the car.

Speaker 7 (02:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, maybe as a tournament.

Speaker 8 (02:48):
But it's not open to the public. But it's not
open to the public.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
It's not open to the public. That's how would you
describe that.

Speaker 8 (02:58):
It's kind of a bummer, Yeah, a bummer, but it's
not open to the public. Rather, it's a promotion allowing
one winner and their guests to enjoy the space and
stay in an Uno themed penthouse this weekend.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Oh it's a gag, you know. And that's not a
table game. They call it a table game. It's not right.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
It's a really highly skilled game. It's not even incredibly chance.
It's all based on the cards you get. I mean,
it's it's hard to really.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
If you don't know how to play it.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Correctly.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
It's now somebody bring in the cards. I'll bring It's odd.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
That would be cool. We should play that at the
next Conway. Let's still right, bash, Yeah, big tournament.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah I don't I've never played, but I'm sure I'll
wipe you guys out. You can try.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Your luck's pretty good like that, right, Yeah, you got it.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Now, I have the best luck in the entire world.
I never lose.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Kind of a bummer.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah, well it is all right. We've got time, you know,
we've got time here. We've got another app, the next
door app. Have you heard about this next door app?

Speaker 9 (04:06):
The neighborhood social network app next Door. It is getting
a major redesigned app, used by one in three households
across the US, gives conversations that used to happen over
backyard fences a new platform. Neighbors turn to next door
for everything from noise complaints to yard sales. But now
it is relaunching with some new features. So joining us

(04:28):
live now in studio is nearav Tolia, the CEO of Nextdoor,
Thanks for being here. Let's get right to it. So
you're talking with new alert features on nextdoor, which is
so important right now, especially with weather warnings. But why
don't you talk about what these alerts are?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Well, thank you so much for having s. Let's just
get to it with the thank you for having me.
We're gonna go live. How's it going on, Everybody got
a coffee? How's your Starbucks? Let's just get into it.

Speaker 10 (04:53):
Well, thank you so much for having sure and we
are so excited.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
To Okay, let's just get to it.

Speaker 10 (04:57):
To launch the new next Door around for fifteen years.
But this is the biggest product set of improvements.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Let's just get to the product.

Speaker 10 (05:05):
That we've ever released. And as you said, a big
part of those improvements include alerts. You want timely relevant
alerts when there's bad weather, when there's crime in your area,
and there are power outages. And Nextdoor has always been
a lifeline for neighbors to hear about what's going on
in their neighborhood, particularly critical things. We know that now
we have an entirely new user interface for those alerts.

(05:27):
So that's one of the three big things in this release.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Okay, Now, what's in these this new release.

Speaker 9 (05:32):
That's huge, Okay, because people do like to complain, But
let's get the real alert system going too, right.

Speaker 10 (05:38):
Well, there's nothing that brings neighbors together like a good crisis,
and so we're complaining about the delayed mail is one thing,
But when there's inclement weather, we know that your neighbors
can be a lifeline.

Speaker 11 (05:49):
Yeah that's sports. Okay, the news feature.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
She's into that. Yeah that's huge.

Speaker 11 (05:56):
Yeah that's sports.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
She has a that's huge, and then she has a
that's that's huge.

Speaker 10 (06:01):
That's one the complaining about, and.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Then the other one is yeah, that's huge.

Speaker 9 (06:06):
Okay, the news feature.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
I like this.

Speaker 11 (06:09):
CBS also on it.

Speaker 9 (06:10):
Let's talk about the news content and what you'll be featuring.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Okay, what is it?

Speaker 9 (06:14):
I like this?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
What is it?

Speaker 10 (06:16):
For our entire history, all of the content has been
created by neighbors, what some people call user generated content.
What we realize is the importance of local news and
ensuring that those neighbors are informed and having great civic dialogue.
So for the first time, we're letting local publishers like
CBS it gets it.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Let me tell you.

Speaker 7 (06:35):
It's the thing about next store is they hook you
on the thing with the advisory.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
I have it. I've had it for years.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
The advisory is Oh my god, I never thought i'd see,
and then you've got to click on the thing, okay,
and then say the kind of bad policies by Joe
Biden or Donald Trump or whatever it is. They're like, god, really,
I mean it's like always descends into some kind of politics.
Next door is a hornets best of that stuff. I mean,

(07:02):
it's either they've lost the dog or they've lost their
mind over Biden or Trump.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Or did you hear that noise?

Speaker 7 (07:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, was that a gunshot or fireworks? Oh my god? Yeah,
did you hear that noise? That's exactly right.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Kind of a bummer. Kind of a bummer, that's what
it is. Very good.

Speaker 12 (07:23):
You're listening to Tim conwaytun you're on demand from kf
I am six forty.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
I will say this, but I know you're an ex
weather guy, and nobody hates smokers more than ex smokers,
you know, But it is going to be a nice
week here, nice and you know it's not going to
be this is extremely hot.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
It's funny.

Speaker 7 (07:43):
As I was this morning, I don't know what I was doing,
but I was kind of thinking about how nice it
is in LA when the weather is nice, and the
weather has been is nice a lot and I know
a lot of people go on vacation to go to Europe,
they go to other parts of the country, and I
get that summer kids are out of school, but wow,
a week like this, there's just no place on earth

(08:04):
that is as beautiful, sweet and perfect in terms of
weather as we are experiencing right now in.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
La And you have to enjoy it because it's not
going to last forever, right all right? Costco is in
the news. Everybody loves Costco. I don't know anybody who
hates Costco.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Nor do I.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Know some people that aren't members Bellio, but there are
a lot of people that enjoy Do you have Costco insurance?
Do you have insurance through Costco? Use my card or try? No?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
I mean you can like any number of services car insurance.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah, I should, but I don't.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
No, I do have I through Costco.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
I got my garage doors and that was a good investment.
They're beautiful doors. I went through a Costco company and
got the garage doors, so I used them on that level.
And but I don't. I don't buy a lot of
high end take items, but I should because Costco guarantees
and you know, anything you buy at Costco. They're very

(09:08):
good at making sure it works or you get your
money back. They're very good at that. But Costco is expanding,
and it is always in the news, and it's always packed.
Whenever I go, there's always five or six people at
every checkout, county or cash register.

Speaker 13 (09:27):
With family budgets stretched by rising consumer costs. Costco is expanding,
a sign it's big box store has gained popularity in
recent years, building on a trusted brand for those keeping
an eye on their spending. The more people are paying
attention to every dollar they're spending, the more attractive that

(09:47):
membership is. Costco is my favorite story, a sign of
the company's strength and success in this economy. The warehouse
chain plans to open even more news stores in the
US in coming months, including locations in Florida, Texas, Washington,
and Nevada.

Speaker 11 (10:03):
If you're in southwest Las Vegas, this is a new
Costco opening here.

Speaker 13 (10:07):
In Texas, where everything's bigger. The biggest Costco in the
Lone Star state is now open for business in Midland.
The store filled with eager shoppers searching for savings.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
They just put a new one up in Ridgefield, or
I think Ridgefield Washington, which is about forty minutes away
from where my wife was was born and we go
to visit family up there all the time. It's brand new,
it just opened a couple months ago. It's spectacular, you know,
brand new Costcos, very clean, you know where everything is.

(10:38):
You know, they got that same big loop that you
go in. You know, you walk back towards meat, you
come back towards the registers. It's great, although I still
see people swimming upstream and I don't like it. When
you go to a Costco, you get in that first
massive freeway and you go back towards meat and bakery,
and then you make a left past you know, vegetable,

(11:00):
then you make another left, you come back to the registers.
But some people swim against the stream.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Yeah, they challenge the system.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
I don't like that.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
They're rebels.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Yes, I don't like it at all.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
I like the.

Speaker 7 (11:09):
Produce at Costco, which is really there's only one downside,
and that is you have to buy so much of it,
Like I'd love their peaches and nectarines, and then you
have to buy a whole case of them. And if
they're just two people in a household, I know it's
hard it is tough.

Speaker 14 (11:23):
It's like, what twelve o'clock on a Thursday.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
And it's this busy.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
It's nice to have a Costco in youar bike.

Speaker 13 (11:28):
It's not just the price tags making Costco cool again.
Items from its in house brand Kirkland Signature often become
fan favorites thanks to its high quality and low prices.
The brand now accounting for roughly a third of Costco's revenue,
bringing in eighty six billion dollars last year.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Wow, just in Kirkland brand bringing in eighty six did
she say?

Speaker 13 (11:50):
Bringing in eighty six billion dollars last year? Kirkland's signature
marshmallow crispy cookie is just the latest sweet treat to
go viral with rave reviews, letting social media.

Speaker 9 (12:01):
They had the genius idea to combine a sugar cookie
with a rice pissbeet tree and create one epic cookie.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Oh I'm going, I'm getting it today. And they have
the greatest ice cream outside where you can where you
can buy pizza and the hot dogs.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Oh yeah, their food court.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah, they have that frozen yogurt that's so cold and tight.
That's how you want your frozen yogurt, not smooth and
melty but tight, you know, just tight yogurts. It's great,
it's great, And give me another box of late.

Speaker 13 (12:30):
Some of the stores offerings of items.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
What think I saying, and give me another box?

Speaker 2 (12:35):
I think I'm about to go and give me another box.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I have to go and get me another Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Well, I see, I said, and give me another box
of the of the cookie out of late.

Speaker 13 (12:43):
Some of the stores offerings of items people love for
less are coming under fire. Just this month athletic apparel
company Lulu Lemons and Costco accusing it of selling knockoffs
of some of lululemons signature products. Costco not responding to
a request for common but some say nothing can put
a damper on Costco's cult following no.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Krozier, are you a member? You're a Costco member?

Speaker 3 (13:10):
I love it?

Speaker 2 (13:11):
What about you, Stefs, I am you're you're a member?
I am man. That's great. I mean even guys that are,
you know, getting by driving uber and Lyft and working
over time, you still cherish that membership though, huh, well.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
Yeah, because I get it in bulk and then I
don't have to go back to the store for like,
especially because it's just me. Yeah, yeah, that makes it
worth it.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
It's I feel like I'm special that I'm a member
of Costco. You know, I feel like it's a club.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
Especially now it's like trying to get into an actual
club to.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Scan your year. Yeah that's right, you're bar code just
to get in that side.

Speaker 7 (13:47):
Now, do you guys both go to the VIP room
at Costco because once you get to the club, you're
just in a general space.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
I don't have that.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
I'm not at that.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Okay, well there you go. Mark. Do you have a membership?
I do not, And it's funny.

Speaker 7 (13:59):
I think I'm I get one though, because of the
I'm looking into insurance there also in the Costco insurance.
I did use to go to Costco frequently, I mean
a lot, and my challenge personally was to buy one
of the Kirkland jugs of cashews and they.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Actually sold them together. They were wrapped together, two big
jugs of cashews, and to try to get out of
there without finishing one of them before I you know,
the shopping trip was over. Belly, You're still not involved though, right,
you know.

Speaker 6 (14:27):
Members involved, not looking to get involved.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Okay, what is it with you and Costco? You have
such a checkered history.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
I just what's the necessity of the bulk stuff? I
just it's too much stuff?

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Okay, shop?

Speaker 6 (14:44):
Yeah, and then you got to store it somewhere, and
I just don't.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
What about your chicken habit? I mean you really enjoyed.

Speaker 6 (14:51):
The that was the end of it. Really?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Oh, maybe that's the thing. Maybe they won't let her
be a member. Oh have you been kicked out?

Speaker 6 (14:59):
I'm not allowed to talk about it.

Speaker 12 (15:00):
Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
How often do you go.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Krozer Kroszer? How often do you go? Well, I'm an
executive member?

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Whoa, there you go, here's the IRP.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yes, the wife and I go every two weeks maybe
three and get what to buy another fireplace.

Speaker 6 (15:22):
But it's if you're buying in bulk, why do you
need to go every like two or three weeks?

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Oh, don't buy everything all at once. But it's amazing
the stuff you find.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
I go twice a week easily. What you I just
look around for new items?

Speaker 4 (15:36):
Yeah, yeah, that's a big part of it. See what
it's new there? And yeah yeah, Leo, what about you Angel?

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Do you go?

Speaker 6 (15:43):
Oh yeah for decades? And I was just there last night.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Whoa? I was there over the weekend, and I got
this as I walked in. You know, you gotta you know,
you gotta have your card out and they bleep it.
They right, just make sure it's you, And I got this.
Look me right in the eye. He goes, Hey, thanks
for being a twenty plus year Memory's nice.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
That's really nice. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
So what do I get for that? He's like, just
go get out of move along, move along, got almighty
maker of Heaven and Earth. But I do enjoy it.
I like costco. I like everything about it, plus free samples. Yeah,
and the and the big ass parking spots. Oh yeah,
they all are equipped for an suv. You never have

(16:29):
anyone banging your door or you know, running into you.

Speaker 6 (16:33):
But yet you have an issue with people that sit
and eat their food.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
You got to get the f out once once you
get in that car, you got to you got to
put it into reverse as you're starting it and get
the f out of that spot. Linger, don't eat your
food in that car.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
Deserve to linger?

Speaker 2 (16:48):
No, yes, Linger, that's a private club.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
Take your time, eat your food.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Private club and private members want to get in there
and shop, don't you linger? You gas up there also
one in a while, but the line's usually like ten
deep and like that. You know, at some point you
have to have some kind of dignity in life. Well,
it's like how much is your time worth? Yes, that's right.
And I always get behind the guy who's never used
a pump himself. You know, why don't you do this

(17:14):
a christ? I'll help you, pops, I'll tackle that for you.
But it is cool, and now they're expanding, it might
be not be a bad stock. I think that stock
price is over one thousand dollars. Let me look it
up real quickly. Want to take a break? Costco?

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Oh, easily, let me see you.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Yeah, it's like nine hundred bucks Costco stock a price?
Costco stock price. Let's see what it is here? Nine
hundred and sixty seven dollars a share.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Jeez, I had no idea.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Yeah, if you bought it though, back in nineteen eighty five,
when it started, you could get into six dollars and
forty cents a share.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
How about ten years ago?

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Ten years ago?

Speaker 3 (17:52):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Twenty fifteen? You could have got in for a buck there,
one hundred and thirty nine dollars. Jeez, if you got
in twenty years ago. It's forty six dollars this year.
Thirty years ago, six dollars and forty seven cents a year.
You could have made them dough and you didn't, so
you're like us, you got to work.

Speaker 12 (18:10):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
Am six forty.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Mark Thompson is in the how and you have that
very popular YouTube show you do.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Thank you Tim. Yeah, a lot of politics and news
and crap like that. It's called The Mark Thompson Show.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Every day you have one hundred and twenty six thousand.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
Yeah, I guess so, one hundred twenty six thousand subscribers.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
And it's fun.

Speaker 7 (18:33):
It's it's a live show, which is a real job,
every day eleven to one.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yeah, and it's cool.

Speaker 7 (18:40):
We've got a lot of regular listeners and a lot
of regular viewers, and so you get a community that
builds there that's really just not unlike the KFI community.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
So it's really great.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Are you do you find a lot of people who
follow you on the show. Are they single or married.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Or most of them? That's a good question. I don't know.
I think there are a lot of married people.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
What if they were single and they also like Disney.
Maybe there's an app for that, is there, Let's find out.

Speaker 12 (19:08):
That's when you're a Disney fan, you kind of need
to find another Disney fan.

Speaker 11 (19:11):
It's important, especially if you are a Disney adult. Right,
they are the grown people who obsess over the Walt
Disney Company.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
This is Andy Reestmeyer or they're a KTLA five. Yeah,
the future of that station, I think, right, yeah, I
like it. Wouldn't you believe? Wouldn't you say that?

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Yes? Most certainly.

Speaker 11 (19:27):
They go to the parks all the time. They collect
the merchant. It's really a part of their identity. Some
of them basically live at the parks. Disney adults generally
don't have kids. It's a subculture for sure. Many people
are a little skeptical or even weirded out by it.

Speaker 7 (20:08):

Adults became the most hated group on the Internet. Wow.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Ouch, wait I screwed up. Sorry, let me do it again.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
There we go.

Speaker 11 (20:50):
In the title was quote how Disney adults became.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
The most hated group on the Internet.

Speaker 11 (20:56):
Ouch, So maybe they're turning inward. The new dating app
has been announced to help them find love and it
is called Single Writers all Right.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Single Riders is the new app for Disney adults.

Speaker 11 (21:06):
Single Writers great title, Really Good promises to allow Disney
adults to connect with each other romantically, where the dates
are only over when their moms come and pick them up.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Oh, that is.

Speaker 11 (21:19):
Not endorsed by Disney. Not affiliated with it at all.
It appears to come from a content creator named Joe
the Bearded Nerd. He considers himself a Disney adult. He
announced the app in a video post, saying it will happen.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Wonder if Joe it has a beard or is a beard?
I don't know. Joe the Bearded Adult. Yeah, it sounds
like he could go either way.

Speaker 11 (21:39):
Not affiliated with it at all. It appears to come
from a content creator named Joe the Bearded Nerd.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Joe the Bearded Nerd, Well, it sounds like he might
have a beard on his face.

Speaker 11 (21:49):
Joe the Bearded Nerd. He considers himself a Disney adult.
He announced the app in a video post saying it
will have both a dating side and a friendship side,
and it will help like minded theme park FINATX find
each other. And it's not just Disney, it's any part.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Oh no, no, no no.

Speaker 11 (22:04):
They want people pitch what they want.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
To see in the app.

Speaker 11 (22:07):
So I'm saying you should be able to sort my
ride preferences, you know, because if she loves the Tower
of Terror and he's a teacup guy, how.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
Is that going to work.

Speaker 11 (22:14):
Yeah, one person it says it'd be great to have
a feature that shows other singles that are at the
park in real time. I can think of no.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
I think that that's not a bad idea. You know,
Disney adult hooking up with other Disney adults. I think
you get into trouble when you're sniffing around like Lego Land. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
that that's not the same thing. You're absolutely right about that.
That's the group you got to watch this camp. Yeah right, yeah, exactly.

(22:41):
You gotta be careful out there, please.

Speaker 11 (22:43):
In real time. I can think of no issues that
could come from that. Hey, going over to the Mandi
horn looking on a singles at a maddle horn.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Yeah, single read.

Speaker 11 (22:56):
Be a pirate sad?

Speaker 2 (22:58):
All right, all right, we're live. Okay. Then I don't
know about that one whole They just took it in
a whole direction.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (23:08):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
A real heavy news day.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
We have two thousand of the four thousand National Guard
troops in la leaving moving on to greener pastures or
wherever they're going. They're they're taking off. I guess the
federal buildings are protected and no need for two thousand
of them, so I think two thousand is staying in,
two thousands of leaving. Then we had the double murder,

(23:39):
double homicide Insino, very safe part of the San Fernando Valley,
and that happened days ago. They just discovered it. They've
arrested a twenty two year old man for doing that
and now he's going to have his life fairly complicated.
So we covered that as well. Mayor Bass spoke about
the troops leaving Los Angeles. We heard a little bit

(24:01):
from her, and then on a lighter note, I'm going
to tell you, because I'm a big are you a
flashlight guy? How many flashlights do you have?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
I think we have.

Speaker 7 (24:10):
I have four of the big mag lights, and I
have maybe four of the small, incredibly bright little ones.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I am a
flashlight freak.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Okay, I probably have fifty of the mid home that's
expensive ones, cheap ones, good ones. And I found one
over the last week at Costco and it's called the
Infinity X one or X L. I can't figure out
if it's X one or xl.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
But it's called Infinity. What would you would you say
that's X one or x L X X one. Okay,
the Infinity X one. You get a two pack for
I think thirty five dollars. It's thirty five one hundred loom.
It's heavy enough to be a weapon if you need it,
and it's extremely bright. You can see wow, I mean

(25:04):
that's what I'm talking about. It's super bright. Look at that,
I mean incredibly right. It lights up the entire room
it runs. They give you two options. They give you
a battery, a battery pack of you know, a self
I guess, uh self charging. Yeah, well it's a battery
pack charger. You got to take this out in charge
it yourself, and you can also use it as a

(25:26):
power supply if you have a phone that needs to
be charged. They give you that, and then they give
you also a battery pack where you can stick your
own Dura cell batteries in and operate it either on
a battery that's charged or Dura cell you know, standard batteries.
But it's the one of the best flashlights I've had.
There's four different settings. There's one, two, three, four, and

(25:47):
if it's on four, it does eat the battery up
pretty quickly, but man, is it bright. And when you
walk around the neighborhood, having a bright flash light really
deters a lot of people from knocking you off because
they know it's heavy and they know that you know
you can pop them in ahead.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
You have this sense. I get this sense from you
that you know you always have to be well defended.
That's right. At all times. You live in a pretty
good neighborhood too.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
You have to be prepared for someone to wipe you out.
You never know who's going to wipe you out, all right.
But it's from Costco again. You get two for I
think thirty five bucks Infinity X one and if you're
a flashlight nut like I am, you'll be very happy
with this one, very happy.

Speaker 7 (26:26):
I like the rechargeable battery, particularly when it comes to
flashlights because you don't use flashlights a lot of the time.
They're sitting in a drawer until you need it, and
then when you need it, you reach over and go,
damn it, the batteries have run down, that's right. I
like the idea of being able to recharge them. That
I will do. I recharge the batteries and all the
devices in the house pretty regularly.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
I have one of them left. I took the other
one to a bar up in Oregon, left it on
the counter, and when I went to leave the bar,
it was gone. So it's somebody else's left.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
So I have one left pack and it's a great deal.
I don't know if it's available at your costco, but
it was it the one up in Oregon, and I
bought it all right. The slang language has literally how
social media has. You know, the slang on social media
is really reshaping the way we speak. I hear people

(27:18):
almost exclusively now using the term merch instead of merchandise.
Oh sure, that's right. I hear it all the time.
I never hear anyone say merchandise. Yeah, you're right anymore.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
That's a good point.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
That's one of them. Let's find out what some others
are here and how slang is reshaping the way we
talk'stivity whatever. Like, here's another one I learned over the weekend.
If you want the address for a party or a
bar or whatever, drop the addie right, addie right, yeah?
Or drop us an old one, or drop a pin.

(27:51):
Drop a pin was when iPhone came into it. Okay,
but dropp an Addie is an old one. Yeah, that's
how many years? I'd say about six years. Okay, So
I heard it this weekend, So that's that's about right,
that's about right, all right.

Speaker 15 (28:04):
There was a lot of buzz over one gamalogy nerd
Adam Alexi has a lot of riz too. His online
videos are digging into the origins and the meetings of
words that have been watched by millions.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
You know what isn't rizz? Like charm or like attraction?
Is that right?

Speaker 5 (28:23):
That's like it's yeah, it's like hyping somebody up, riz
like getting someone making someone feel good.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Okay, Yeah, here's an embarrassing one that happened over the weekend.
I was at Dutch Brothers and the woman said, do
you have the app? The Dutch Brother's app to save
money and get points? And I said no. I was
with my daughter and I said I don't. I said
where can I get that? And my daughter and the

(28:49):
woman at at Dutch Brothers sort of looked at each
other and like, what cave did this guy come? And
she said it's at an app store? I said, is
there one around here? And she's like Jesus Christ? And
then my daughter ordered a coffee and he said she
wanted a soft top. Is that is that something?

Speaker 11 (29:13):
No?

Speaker 3 (29:13):
I don't know what that is.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
It's like foam on the top. Yeah, it's what you
put over the coffee. And I heard her say muffin top.
So I ordered her coffee the muffin top, and they said,
muffin top is a separate thing.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
It's not what you put on a coffee.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
So I had a rough day at Dutch Brothers.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Pretty rough, pretty that had.

Speaker 15 (29:29):
Been watched by millions. His videos have and in his
new book I'll Go Speak how social media is transforming
the future of language, he delves into all of this
linguistic upheaval, and he joined us now with more. Adam,
I kind of slayd that didn't I?

Speaker 2 (29:44):
I would say, so, yeah, right?

Speaker 11 (29:46):
I guess do we just sound so old?

Speaker 3 (29:48):
Sounds ridiculous?

Speaker 2 (29:49):
Oka, I understand Slade nailed it.

Speaker 15 (29:52):
I was actually happy that it was me. I was like,
I'm gonna take the bullet, okay, but first so that
everyone can understand what the heck I just said. Adam,
if you could just give us a quick translate.

Speaker 14 (30:00):
Tululu delusional, un alive, kill, suicide, brain rot, it's a
mean okay.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Well on alive un alive is an easy one, you know,
not dead, un alive, un alive.

Speaker 14 (30:13):
Kill, suicide, brain rot. It's a meme genre but also
just means things that are bad for your brain. Clock
app TikTok riz charisma. Well, clock app.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
I didn't know that tic TACs called clock app. You
know that stuff?

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Weight's played again?

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Clock out clock app? Oh clock app? Oh yeah, clock
app TikTok riz charisma, charisma.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Okay.

Speaker 15 (30:34):
So it's natural for language right over time to have
new words enter it, especially from the younger generation. Slang
and that sort of thing.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
How was this different time and time again?

Speaker 14 (30:44):
It's true we see young people come up with new
words as a way to differentiate their identities from adults,
as a way to forge a shared identity for themselves.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
It's not new that we're getting slang.

Speaker 11 (30:52):
That's always been a thing.

Speaker 14 (30:53):
I'm a strong believer, however, that the medium is the message,
and each new medium will have a unique way of
influencing how language changes. Before we had written paper and
stone tablets, language would rely on oral tradition.

Speaker 11 (31:06):
You'd have more rhyme and meter.

Speaker 14 (31:08):
Once we had paper, we could use chapters and we
could segment our stories differently. Then we moved to the Internet.
We have the written replication of informal speech. And finally,
algorithms are I think a new inflection point for language.
They are a new infrastructure underlying the Internet and how
we communicate with one another.

Speaker 15 (31:21):
And you say, algorithms are pushing certain new like algorithmic
terms on this like social media speak.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
To the masses, right.

Speaker 14 (31:29):
The classic example is on alive, you can't say kill
on TikTok, so you have to say on alive instead.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
But you can't say kill on TikTok.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
No, Yeah, go ahead, you know, yeah, you'll get banned
anything like that, suicide stuff like that, No way, Yeah,
they'll they'll mark you down for that.

Speaker 7 (31:44):
We have the same problem on YouTube, like especially any
kind of crimes of violence.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
This sort of thing has to be very careful.

Speaker 14 (31:50):
Really on aliven, can't say kill on TikTok. No, there's
platform guidelines censoring certain language. And that's an example of
algo speak. But I think al go speak is so
much more than that. It's all so how words get popularized,
how words spread, how where words come from.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
In the first part, so you can't say, my car died.
You can't use dyed no, no, no, that that's because
that's in context. But yeah, if you're talking about killing
self that type of thing, how about I I went
to a polkard and I a man, I killed it.
If you put it all together, yes, And if.

Speaker 14 (32:22):
Certain words are used in a video that is popular,
then other people will use that word.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
And it's not as though the culture, the society of
human beings is choosing.

Speaker 11 (32:31):
Now.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
I just don't get it.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
I don't get it, man, kind of a bomber.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
And plus a lot of also, a lot of slaying
comes out of hip hop because like do you I
don't know if you guys remember Yolo? Yeah right, yeah,
sure that came out of Drake's song, but I didn't
know mel Wayne, and that just blew up. So that's
where we used to get a lot of the context.
And then it kind of transferred into social media because
that became a lot bigger. And you know, that's why

(32:57):
you have to be careful what you're saying. That's why
the kill and all that stuff. I can't be doing
that because then a bumber, yeah yeah, kind of a bummer.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Kind of a bummer, all right, Mark, thanks for coming
in love seeing my show. Mo Kelly next right here
