This is BONUS audio from August 16th 2021

I had the pleasure of speaking with the wonderful Loretta Swit, Emmy-Winning M*A*S*H Actress Known for Playing Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan. I asked if she remembered that I was limo driver years ago? AND, I "accidently" left Loretta Swit at the Hollywood Bowl. After she paid me an extra $50 to stay put...I left.

Outside of acting, Swit was a painter and a vocal animal rights activist. In 2017, she released a book, Switheart: The Watercolour Artistry & Animal Activism of Loretta Swit, proceeds of which are donated to charities and organizations against animal cruelty. Swit passed away today at her home in NY of natural causes. She was 87. We lost a wonderful actress, but an even better person. RIP

We couldn't play this audio on-air cause its encoded or something and would make alrams go off. So here you go!

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I know there's a lot of news going on there
right now, so you've heard it all all day long,
and we'll get to it right the old Afghanistan.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
The you know, the.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
COVID deal that's out there, the recall, the whole run.
But it's also six o'clock, right time to have a
little fun, and we have one of the great comedic
actresses of all time on what's one of the stars
of mash Ladies and Gentlemen, Loretta Sweat.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Loretta, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
I'm great, thank you very much, and how are you
the You sound like you're happy and having a wonderful time.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Well, as you heard maybe the top of the show,
it's because of an advanced tear. And if you went
to advanced hair, you'd have the same kind of you know,
pick up, you know.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Positive feeling. Lorenza went.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
First of all, you know, you and I know each other.
And I'm gonna tell you a story here, and you
tell me if you remember this. Okay, okay, okay. It
was back in nineteen eighty four and I was driving
Linusine called from TJ Livery and Revel Travel.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Do you remember Revel Travel?

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I do the lady who ran that or the I
did live.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, it was a couple that ran it.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well then was it her son or was it her husband.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
I think it was her husband that ran it.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
But he you know, I don't know if he died
or not, but I remember it was on Beverly Boulevard,
you know, between like Wilshire and I don't know Pico,
but it was.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
A great I think either she or both of them
were great friends of the man who then was my manager.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
OK oh yeah, right right, yeah, yeah. As a matter
of fact, I know you're exactly right.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
On the connection. So anytime I traveled, Julie would send
me to them, right and and.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
I would be the guy that would deliver your tickets
because you know, back then you.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Would have you know, nobody had.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I had a cell phones, so I would drop both
those red tickets and you got and then and then
later on he started a company called TJ. Livery, which
was a limousine company. And I drove you to the
Hollywood Bowl and I can't remember what concert it was.
It was nineteen eighty four. And you would ask me,
you said, look, it's very hairy. Once we get out here,
can you please just stay right here in this parking

(02:19):
spot so I can find you later. And I said, well,
there's probably a million ways to get in here. I
can go drive around for a couple hours and come
back and meet Loretta Swit. I couldn't get back into
the parking lot, and you had to take a cab home.
Now do you remember that?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
I don't remember that part?

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Thank God?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Funny. How funny is that?

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Thank God? And by the way, I didn't ask for
a tip that night.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
I didn't think I was deserving of one. But you know,
you must still get all the time, you must get
people talking about Mash. We played the theme song all
the time. It's a throwback to better times, easier times,
and it was just such a great way to have,
you know, a terrific laugh. I imagine every single day
somebody stops you and talks to you about Mash.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
No, no, they don't. I don't, first of all, because
I don't walk around a lot bump into people. But no, phoners, interviewers, everybody, yes, fans, yes,
fan mail, yes, yeah, stuff like that. So yes, absolutely,

(03:28):
it is continuing. It's it's it will never die because
it's continuous. Does that make sense to you. I read
that levelwhere and next year we're looking at fifty years
of being on the air.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Oh that is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Fift years of being uninterruptedly hot the air.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
You know, my dad saw you and said you were
terrific as one of the Pigeon sisters in the odd.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Come where does he see it?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
He saw it in Los Angeles. I think it was
with Don Rickles and Ernest Border.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
And Ernest bourdnine. Yeah, they were an incredible odd couple
to work with.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh yeah, I mean that they were. By the way,
with Ernest Bourdin, Don Rickles, who were the what characters
did they play? Oh guess, let's see Rickles would have played.
I don't know who would Rickles play the uh, the
sloppy one? And then Ernest Bord.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
No, you think that it was exact opposite, of course.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
You had. You had Rickles cleaning and shining and polishing everything.
He looked the part. He looked like he should be
doing that. And Ernie was, you know, the tough poker
playing guy you know. Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Oh Felix I mean Oscar.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
No Oscar, Yeah, Felix was. But they were were so
great they we stayed friends over the years. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Now, do you still live in Los Angeles?

Speaker 3 (04:59):
No?

Speaker 1 (05:00):
You moved?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Oh not for a long time.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
And where were you down?

Speaker 3 (05:04):
I live in New York.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Oh, okay, excellent?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Are you?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Are you in the city? Are you in Manhattan?

Speaker 3 (05:09):
I don't know that. I think talk about that like
millions of people to know exactly how track me down?
You know what?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I will say this thing about privacy though. About ten
years ago, we had tickets to give away for a movie.
There was a movie that was premiering, and we had
six pairs of tickets to give away, and I said,
I'll give six pairs of tickets away to the first
six people that can tell me what my home address
is who are not related to me and I don't

(05:39):
know as friends. The board lit up and all six
of them knew my home address and I've never met
any of them. Isn't that scary when it comes to privacy?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yes? Hard indeed, did you give them the tickets?

Speaker 1 (05:53):
I did? Yes?

Speaker 2 (05:54):
And then and then two weeks later I moved moved, Yes,
I did? Two weeks later? Dingg wrong with you?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
So lot? What do you what are you doing now?
What occupies your day?

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Well? I am doing a lot of cameos. I'm sure
you know all about cameos. They're the most wonderful idea ever.
I love people, and I love my fans, and it's
such a wonderful thing to get well first of all,
to do them, have fun and do them, and then

(06:27):
get reviewed. Have people respond. You know, they the people
who buy the cameo for mom or Dad or Auntie
Grace or whatever, and then they write and say, you know,
like I did one that amounted to almost a love
letter for Valentine's Day. Maybe it was I forget and

(06:49):
the husband wrote and said, my wife watches it over
and over like it's a movie.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Well that's great.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Is that is that it's like a love letter. And
the thing about what I love about it is again
the continuity. It's a forever gift. It's a gift you
can watch once a year to remind yourself that you
have loved and cherished. So I love that part of it.
I also love the contact, the connection, because I do

(07:18):
believe connection is what will save our society and the world.
You know, people would would uh embrace each other and
connect and uh well, but anyway, so I love that
part of it. I just finished reading a play that
I may be doing, but I have I don't know.

(07:40):
I have a couple of other things going on, but
mostly let's see, I'm also busy with my charity, my
my second printing, the second printing of my art book
is due this month, which I'm thrilled about because I'll
be doing an autograph show and I want to bring
the books with me. And what else is going on there?

(08:07):
That have this wonderful script written by a friend of mine,
a writer, mash actually, and I'd love to help him
get it on its seat and done. It's a wonderful script.
And I don't know, you know, I'm looking.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
At you, by the way, I'm looking at the cameo
right now. It says you responding two days, which is
much faster than most celebrities. And it's only you got
a five review. One hundred and twenty eight people reviewed
your cameo. And for people don't know this cameo c
a m eo dot com. Are Hollywood celebrities, politicians, athletes,
you know, popular people who will do it. Great people right,

(08:47):
they'll do a personalize video for you, and yours is
a steal at one hundred and fifty bucks that's a
great deal.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
It's not a steal, I don't think. But I think
that Ellia.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
One for Christmas. I would love that.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Oh and who was that? I just had? What would
tell me about? Who?

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Belly? It's my my ex wife works on the show.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Oh well, how nice and just still together working pain
in the ass? Oo do you allow him to say
things like that about you? She says worse, but you
still do this show together. It's kind of interesting. I'm sorry.

(09:32):
I'm into people, so I'm kind of interested in your relationship.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
It's been a rough day because she didn't. I was
supposed to pick up the kids last night and I
got drunk and I forgot.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
This is, you know, really more information that I think
your listeners need to have.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
All Right, I got, Loretta. I really appreciate you coming on.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Go to cameo dot com and and and get yourself
one of these cameo by Loretta Switt and always one
of my favorite Master was one of my favorite shows,
and you were by far my favorite character on it.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Well, that's very sweet, but I thought we were the
most extraordinary ensemble ever. I mean, we're such a family,
We're still in love with each other. We are always
in touch. We know what's going on and with each other,
and we go to see each other if we're doing
something or whatever. It's just a wonderful, loving family that

(10:31):
I've been a part of for so many years. I
feel very blessed by the experience.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
It is absolutely beautiful. Loretta Switt, thank you very much.
Loretta Sweet Everybody, look at that
