Here's what's ahead on wake Up Call. Federal prosecutors have
(01:57):
charged twelve people in connection with anti immigration enforcement protests
across La in Ventura. County's authorities say the charges stem
from demonstrations that escalated into clashes with law enforcement earlier
this year. Governor Newsom says his Prop fifty campaign has
hit its thirty eight million dollar fundraising goal and is
asking donors to stop giving. The November ballot measure would

Supporters call reform and critics call jerrymandering. A seven year
old boy was found dead inside an apartment in Lynnwood.
His mother has been arrested for murder, and the boy's
father and grandmother face conspiracy charges. The other three children
(02:43):
were taken into protective custody. Here's what the head on
Wake Up Call Israel says. The latest strikes in Goza

mean for the fragile truce moving forward. ABC's Geordana Miller
joins US Live with the latest A five point twenty

What is your favorite holiday? Halloween, Christmas, is it ourbor Day?
Whatever it is, we want to hear from you. Hit
that talkback button for wake up call and let me know.
Then a six oh five handle on the news. President
(03:49):
Trump says his first face to face meeting with the
leader of China in six years. We're going to tell
you why he said it went well. Let's get started
with some of the stories coming out of the KFI
twenty four hour newsroom. The parents and grandmother of a
seven year old boy found dead and a freezer in
Lynnwood have been arrested.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were called
to an apartment on Tuesday night for a welfare check.
Deputies pronounced the seven year old dad to the scene.
Three other children were also at the residence. A sixteen
year old, a thirteen year old, and a baby were
taken into protective custody. The mother, twenty five year old
Destiny Harrison, was arrested on suspicion of murder. The father
(04:30):
and the grandmother were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy
to commit murder. Mark Mayfield Kofi.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
News, a woman accused of following an ICE agent by
car through the streets of La live streaming it and
posted in the officer's home address on social media, is
due in federal court today. Cynthia ray Goza is charged
with conspiracy and publicly disclosing the personal information of a
federal agent. Two other women are also charged. One of
them has already pleaded not guilty. Israeli force has carried
(05:00):
out over nine strikes in Gaza, targeting what they describe
as more than thirty terrorist sides. Joining US now from
Jerusalem is ABC's Geordana Miller with inside on the situation.
Good Morning, Good morning.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
The Israeli Armies says it carried out some strikes in
northern Gaza that in response to what it called an
imminent threat against its soldiers. Remember, the Israeli Prime Minister
has insisted that even though the sides are more or
less keeping a seafire right, even though we saw a
(05:35):
flare up just a few days ago, he is insisting
that any threats to Israeli soldiers will be met with
a response what he calls having a security a free
hand in the security of his soldiers. So we saw
that play out, and it's much like what we've seen
(05:57):
along Israel's northern border with Lebanon since the two countries
now just about a year ago, signed a ceasefire, right
where we still see Israel hitting has Bollah targets, sometimes
carrying out assassinations. And it looks as if we're beginning
to see a similar kind of model in Gaza, where
(06:20):
there are still negotiations on a whole load of issues
that have to be resolved before we get to Phase
two and more stability there. And in the meantime, when
there are some security issues, the Israelis are acting on
what they call defensive means.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
So what are the Palestinians than saying about this.
Speaker 7 (06:47):
Well, the Palestinians, you know Hamas in particular, right is
sometimes trying to deny any part in these attacks. For example,
there was a deadly strike on an Israeli position on
Tuesday that killed one soldier, and Hamas tried to say, oh,
that wasn't us, Maybe it was a rogue cell. Maybe
(07:10):
it's some fighters in a tunnel that don't know there's
a ceasefire, you know. Hamas's argument, whether it's true or not,
according to the Israelis and by the way, President Trump,
it doesn't really matter whether it was their fighters or
they didn't know about it, you know, or it's some
(07:31):
rogues sell Hamas is the power right on the other
side of the ceasefire line. Hamas signed the deal that
President Trump brokeered, and they are responsible for adhering to
a cessation of hostilities or a ceasefire until the sides
move into a longer right into the new phase. And
(07:54):
so Hamas is the one who's responsible for these attacks.
It's clear according to the Israelis and the President. So
I think Hamas is having a bit of a tough
time if some of these groups are not staying in line.
On the other hand, many people believe Hamas is kind
of trying to test, if you will, the limits of
(08:16):
this ceasefire.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
So at this point, are there any indications from mediators
like here in the US that they will be getting
back to the negotiating table, whether it's to set up,
you know, plans for phase two or address what has
happened recently.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Well, the ceasefire is now you know, back in force
and it is being honored more or less by both sides.
What everyone is waiting for is for Hamas to complete
its commitments under the deal for Phase one, and that
means turning over the rest of those thirteen bodies of hostages.
(08:56):
We just heard a short while ago reports that Hamas
may turn over two more bodies today Thursday. We are
waiting to confirm those reports, but that would be good news,
right because when we get down to maybe just four
or five hostage bodies left in Gaza, I think everyone
(09:20):
will feel better about moving into Phase two right now,
as you know, the Israeliers are accusing Hamas of kind
of dragging their feet on delivering the bodies. Hamas is saying, no, no, no,
we need help with you know, heavier equipment to find
some of those bodies in the rubble. Meanwhile, there are
you know, there are teams on the ground from Egypt
(09:41):
and Turkey helping Hamas, and they did recently just stage
body discovery, so I think you know, their credibility is
running low. Nonetheless, before going to Phase two, you know,
the Israelis and President Trump want to see Hamas turnover
those bodies.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Okay, seems like seems like we take two steps forward
and one step back here. Yes, we'll definitely be keeping
an eye on this. Thank you so much, Jordana.
Speaker 7 (10:11):
Thanks Heather Tucson, thank you.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
All right, let's get back to some of the stories
coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A
prosecutor in Paris says five more people have been arrested
in connection with the theft of the Crown Jewels from
the Louver Museum. They were caught last night in separate
police operations in Paris and surrounding areas without the jewels.
ABC's Tom Sophie Burridge says the two men arrested earlier
(10:36):
for the heist have been charged with organized robbery and
conspiracy to commit a crime.
Speaker 8 (10:42):
Paris prosecutors say the two men who they believe helped
execute this stunning one hundred and two million dollar heist
of the Louver have partially admitted their involvements.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Please say they were able to track the pair after
matching one man's DNA to a window cut open at
the Loop. The other man's DNA was found on a
motorbike used in the getaway. The Federal Reserve Board has
cut its key interest rate for the second time this year.
Chairman Jerome Powell says even though the Central Bank has
(11:13):
approved a quarter percent cut, inflation has stayed elevated.
Speaker 9 (11:17):
In the near term, risks to inflation are tilted to
the upside and risks to employment to the downside. A
challenging situation.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Hiring has been sluggish this year, and inflation remains above
the Fed's two percent target. Powell says further rate cuts
are not guaranteed. America Online Remember remember Them. As a
new owner, the Italian tech company Bending Spoons says it's
set to finish the acquisition of AOL by the end
of the year for one point five billion dollars. They're
(11:47):
buying it from Apollo Global Management. AOL currently has about
eight million active daily users on its news, content, games,
and email services. Bending Spoons also announced a plan to
acquire the signed Vimeo for more than one point three
billion dollars. Two federal prosecutors have been suspended for describing
(12:07):
the January sixth attack on the US Capitol as a
quote mob of rioters in a sentencing memo. Sources tele
ABC News.
Speaker 10 (12:14):
The two veteran prosecutors were locked out of their government
devices and put on leave after they filed a sentencing
recommendation in the case of a man named Taylor Toronto.
He was among those partoned by President Trump, having taken
part in the January sixth attack.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
ABC Stephen Portnoy says Toronto also has convictions for gun
and threat crimes from twenty twenty three. Tomorrow, the Dodgers
take on the Toronto Blue Jays for Game six of
the World Series with first pitch at five. Listen to
all games on A five seventy LA Sports and the
iHeartRadio app brought to you by Strauss, the official workwear
(12:48):
partner of MLB. A Hollywood producer, has been sent to
one hundred and forty six years to life in prison
for the drug overdose deaths of two women. David Pierre
was convicted of first degree murder for the deaths of
a model and her friend in twenty twenty one, and
for sexually assaulting seven other women. Police are investigating after
(13:11):
the body of a newborn was found early Monday at
USC's Cardinal Garden student housing. The baby girl was just
nineteen hours old, and health officials in Riverside County are
warning residents after eighteen rabid bats were found this year already.
That's more than in twenty twenty four. Today's talkback question,
what's your favorite holiday? Hit that talkback button on the
(13:33):
iHeartRadio app. We want to hear from you. Is it Halloween, Christmas,
Valentine's Day, whatever it is, I want to hear from you.
Then a six oh five handle on the news, the
Fed cut interest rates for the second time this year.
We're going to tell you what this could mean for
the economy moving forward. Right now, it's being called one
of the most consequential meetings in years. President Trump and
(13:53):
Chinese President she Jen Ping sat down face to face
for the first time in six years. ABC's Karen Travers
joins us Now with more on what came out of
this very high profile meeting. Good morning, Karen, Good morning.
Speaker 11 (14:06):
It was on an hour and forty five minutes according
to the Live House. The President says it was amazing.
He said, on a scale of one to ten, he'd
rate it a twelve. But I think you know, we're
paying close attention to see in about an hour of
how Wall Street reacts to this and so far the
reaction globally has been kind of muted because it's really
it's a positive sign at least because it was an
(14:28):
extension of the truth that we're in right now with China.
There was a ninety day truth period, then another ninety
day true truth period, and now it looks like this
is going to be a year without intense negotiations. According
to the President, this is a year deal and then
at that point they will talk again. What does this mean, Well,
the President said that he would cut tariffs on Chinese
(14:49):
goods by ten percent, but that brings it down from
fifty seven percent to forty seven percent, which is still
a really high number, higher than the tariff that's set.
Speaker 7 (14:59):
On goods coming in from countries all.
Speaker 11 (15:01):
Around the world at this point in exchange, though, China
has said that they will restart purchases of soybeans from
American farmers and also delay restrictions on rare earth minerals exports.
That was a big source of contention in recent weeks
between the two countries. So the President says this is
a good deal for right now. But I think if businesses,
(15:22):
consumers were looking for massive relief from tariffs on Chinese goods,
that didn't happen in this meeting.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
So you mentioned the drop by ten percent, and it
doesn't seem like it would be that much. But is it.
Will it be a significant change or could we see
that for American consumers and businesses.
Speaker 11 (15:41):
I mean, it'll be a little bit, But you know,
I think if people were looking to see it get
down to the rate that Japan, South Korea or other
countries are seeing a fifteen percent, that did not happen
in this meeting. The President is still keeping it at
that forty seven percent rate, and that doesn't look like
that's changing for any time soon.
Speaker 12 (15:58):
You know.
Speaker 11 (15:59):
The President was described I think this is a one
year agreement that will then be renegotiated again. He had
put a one hundred percent tariff threat on the table
starting on November first. That obviously is gone, and that's
a good thing. But I think the big thing will
be if China doesn't live up to its end of
the bargain, if they don't restart purchasing soybeams at the
(16:20):
rate that they said they were going to, if the
President doesn't like what he's seeing on other issues, does
a teriff rate go back up or another threat on
the table again. No, I know.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
You also mentioned that they talked about those rare earth
export restrictions for a year. Now, that's pardon me, that's
a really big move considering how critical those materials are.
Is that also going to bring relief to US industries
that rely on them.
Speaker 11 (16:45):
I mean, I don't know about relief. It certainly at
least means that this isn't going to be such a
dire situation. I mean, China accounts for about sixty percent
of the rare earth production and ninety percent of the processing,
and if they were putting stripped export controls on this,
it was going to make it difficult to get them
from there. So you saw the President trying to cozy
(17:06):
up to Australia, Japan, Malaysia, other countries that have them,
but nowhere near at the same level as China. China
is the big dog in the world when it comes
to these things. So it's now at least a released
companies that they aren't going to see these for the
restrictions go into place, but it's just for a year,
(17:26):
So this release, this reprieve is temporary.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Okay. ABC's Karen Travers, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Thank you all.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Right, Let's get back to some of the stories coming
out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A homeless
man has been arrested in Long Beach for allegedly killing
his brother.
Speaker 6 (17:42):

Sunday incident. They say officers were told that an unidentified
man was in the hospital which suffered critical drama from
an assault. That victim, Mark Johnson, died on Tuesday. The
fifty six year old was allegedly assaulted by his homeless brother.
Marcellus Johnson was on Monday and booked on suspicion of
attempted murder. That charge is now likely to change since
(18:05):
the victim is dead. It's not yet clear what caused
the conflict. Mark Mayfield KOFI News.

A woman who admitted to filing a fraudulent application for
FEMA benefits after the fire in Pacific Palisades in January

Speaker 13 (18:46):

move ahead with the project from the Newport Beach City Council.
The city's approval came despite objections from players at the
Newport Beach golf course, where the park will replace three
of the holes, a driving range, restaurant and bar in
a pro shop. The Orange County Register says Snug Harbor
project is expected to take eighteen months to finish, which
(19:07):
will be ahead of the LA twenty twenty eight Olympics.
Newpark Beach Mayor Joe Stapleton says he hopes some of
the athletes will use the facility for training. Sharon Reardon KFI.

Musketeers have seen cost increases of twelve percent and Reese's
Peanut buttercups have risen eight percent. Business experts are expecting
to see consumers spend thirteen point one billion dollars on
Halloween this year, and candy sales are projected to cover
three point nine billion dollars of that total. Mark Ronner

Speaker 3 (20:22):
The La City Council is taking more control over costly parades,
approving a plan to review any event needing more than
one hundred thousand dollars in city resources for traffic or
security that authority had previously rested with the LAPD. Authorities
are asking for help identifying a man killed in a
hit and run under the fifteen Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga
(20:44):
back in August. The victim was found dead underneath a
Foothill Boulevard overpass, but months later, his identity still remains unknown.
And a Santa Anna motel long linked to drugs and
human trafficking has been shut down after a madeor police raid.
Ten people, including the owners, were arrested at the Sunshine

has plans for San Francisco.
Speaker 14 (21:47):
Uber announcing San Francisco and the Bay Area will be
its first reach in for its next generation autonomous robotaxi program.
The robotaxis are said to launch next year, and it's
a partnership with a self driving tech company called and
the EV company, Lucid.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
ABC's Alex Stone says there are already robotaxis from companies
like Waimo on the streets of San Francisco. Lucid is
making an Uber exclusive robotaxi vehicle. The company plans to
twenty thousand cars in the next six years. Dictionary dot
com has picked its word of the year. The winner
is six', seven a viral slang.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
Word the term doesn't have a clear, meaning but some
have taken it to mean so so maybe this or maybe.
That dictionary Dot com describes it as a brain rot

starting to add water to their clorox And. Downey they're
even washing and rinsing and drying paper towels and using
them again to save.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Money and one.
Speaker 17 (27:45):
Consumer tells The Wall Street journal that he hooked up
with a Farmer heather In North carolina bought half a.
Cow this guy spent twenty five hundred dollars on the half.
Cow he got about three hundred pounds worth of, beef
filling an entire deep freezer with the two years of.
Apply of, course there's Always hamburger helper if you can't
to you, know afford to go that deep in and invest.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
In so that's a pretty big investment buying half a.
COW i don't need the racer. TOO i don't even
know WHERE i would go to do.
Speaker 17 (28:15):
That and you need to Be North carolina and you
need to be a serious meat.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
LOVER i mean you'd have to seriously, know, yeah no your.
Meat all, right let's talk About. Google they're going to
boost the quality of those grainy YouTube videos, Finally, yeah
they sure.
Speaker 17 (28:30):
Are they plan to use artificial intelligence to improve the
visual quality of many low resolution videos on. YouTube blog
post says there could be pushback, though you know some
creators maybe they wanted it to be. GRAINY i can
think of some horror films that kind of have that
kind of aspect to it does add cool. Effect YouTube
also says the original files how they're not to, fear
(28:51):
will always be kept intact and you can opt out
if you don't.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Want your grain eyat photos. FIXED i love, that all.
Right so the, shutdown the government shutdown is forcing the
elite to travel like everyone else say it ain't, SO i,
KNOW i.
Speaker 17 (29:04):
Mean can you imagine you pay all that money for
a ticket and you have to stand next to me
in the. Line delta one customers AT lax and also
AT jfk apparently not currently active due to the. Shortage
this means those Elite delta one customers are being forced
to go through standard security lines at the airport and
wait in line with everybody. Else you, Know, heather they
(29:26):
pay a huge amount of money for those, tickets like
four thousand bucks for A delta one. Ticket, well it's
only five hundred bucks for a, coach so rightfully they
could be pretty angry about.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
That, wow, YEAH i. Imagine so the majority Of americans
believe in haunted. Houses what does that?
Speaker 17 (29:43):
MEAN i, know this is. Crazy almost nine in ten
believe in haunted. Houses it's like eight and a half in.
Ten if you can get a half person maybe in
a horse you. Can that's somewhere between the in, statistics
and that's.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
RIGHT i believe in haunted.
Speaker 17 (30:00):
Houses they say they see all kinds of, things you,
know thumping lights going on and, off water going on and,
off suddenly the room gets really, cold all that.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Stuff they say they don't care the house.
Speaker 17 (30:12):
Hunters as a matter of, fact how they, say if
a home is a, bargain there's not a ghost of
a chance they'd pass it. Up they'd buy it. ANYWAY
i should mention though people do draw the. Line this
is a little bit more. Somber people do draw the
line when something really spooky happened in a, house you,
know like a, murder as you. Should they say they
would not buy a house where an actual murder was,
there but they don't mind a little extra. Company some
(30:33):
even said, it you, know the ghosts keep them from feelings,
onely so go, figure.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Go FIGURE i really quickly before we let you. Go
Rivian cars are now coming with A halloween.
Speaker 17 (30:42):
Mode, Yeah tesla has kind of done a little bit of,
this And rivian of course based In irvine and it's
vehicles this year coming with its spooky new. Feature Spooky
swamp is the brand's Official halloween. Theme it transforms vehicles using, animation, lighting,
sounds and more to create a Hell helloween interior. AMBIYONCE i,
mean it's kind of silly, really ALTHOUGH i guess it
(31:05):
could be a pleaser for the, kids but it's really
all about how they can be interactive with their. Computer
so they send this update down the. Line then you
can update your car and deck it out For. Halloween all,
Right thank, You Bloomberg's. Denise we will talk to you.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Tomorrow looking forward to. It thank, you all. RIGHT a
new report from Cal matters finds nearly half a million Young,
californians mostly, men are neither working or in. School Governor
newsome calls it a, crisis citing rising, disconnection, addiction and
mental health struggles among young, men and The Anaheim City
council has voted against advancing a proposed tourism tax that
(31:42):
would have added a three percent charge on theme park
and event, tickets and residents In West hollywood are being
warned after a spike in coyote sidings Along Harbor avenue
and nearby. Streets today's talkback, QUESTIONS i want to hear from.
You what is your favorite? Holiday is It? Halloween because that's.
Tomorrow if, not let me, KNOW i want to hear from.
(32:02):
You hit the talkback button on the iHeartRadio. App and
we're just minutes away from handle on the. News this,
Morning President trump wants to start nuclear testing. Again we're
going to tell you what led to this. Decision right,
now THE cdc is predicting a moderate flu, season welcome
news after the twenty twenty four years saw the highest
flu related hospitalizations in more than a. Decade ABC's Jim
(32:25):
ryan joins Us now to talk more about. It good, Morning,
Jim Morning.
Speaker 9 (32:28):
HEATHER i think people don't take this illness very. Seriously
they think it's a little, fever maybe a little, cough
reason to stay home from work, perhaps but it can
be very. Serious last, year it's spending as eighty two
Million americans came down with the, flu And, heather twenty
seven thousand died as a, result or at least as one.
Factor so far this, year two hundred and eighty children
(32:49):
have died the with influenza as a potential.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Factor as someone who just got their flu shot a
few days, AGO i have TO i also want to
encourage everybody to do is it's not too late? Right?
Speaker 9 (33:03):
No, yeah this is the prime. Time you're supposed to
get it right Before, halloween and, man we're right Before,
halloween so you should have gotten it this, month maybe
between mid month and. Now but it's not too, late
certainly to get the shot and you'll be protected when
peak flu season comes In. February so, yeah it's certainly
not too. Late and that's certainly what The American Medical,
association The centers For Disease control And, prevention you, know
(33:26):
as vaccine shy as THE cdc seems to. Be now
THE cdc is, saying, yeah everybody's six months old and
older should be getting the shot lest they have some other.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Complication so The American Medical association is launching a new awareness.
Campaign and what's different about their message this, YEAR.
Speaker 9 (33:45):
I think a sense of. Urgency so yes YESTERDAY i
talked to doctor Lahe A, jaii she's the incoming chair
of The American Medical, association and she's concerned about vaccine.
Hesitancy that's concerned that a lot Of americans have about
the safety. Vaccines here's what she.
Speaker 12 (34:01):
Said you, know there's a lot of different reasons that
people have vaccine. Hesitancy but WHAT i can tell you
is that the flu vaccine is extremely. Safe you, know
it IS cdc, approved after you. Approved everybody recommends. It
all the medical organizations recommend it as the best way
to prevent serious complications from the.
Speaker 7 (34:18):
Flu so is it?
Speaker 9 (34:20):
Perfect, No, well can you get the flu even if
you have the? Shot, yes you. Can but if she,
said you, know the chances that you end up in
the hospital or have some serious complications are much reduced
if you have gotten the. Shot so You, heather now
that you've had your, shot could you get? It, yeah
chances are you, won't but if you, do it's going
to be a lot more mild than it would have been.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Otherwise so for families who are juggling like, flu covid
AND rsv, concerns how can they best protect themselves as
we head into the winter.
Speaker 9 (34:50):
Months, well if you can get combined. Shots combine combined,
Vaccinations i'll get them at the same. Time you go
to the pharmacy and get the flu shot along with
the THE covid. Shot if you're, older maybe THE rsv,
shot the pneumonia. Shot you don't want to get too
many at the same, time but space them out at
your doctor's. Advice and it's really the best way to protect. Yourself, perfect,
(35:12):
no but it's the best we.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Have, WELL i took my seventy nine year old mom
and we had a shot and lunch date the other
day where we caught both our flu AND covid. Shots
THEN i took her out to lunch and it ended
up being just a great way to spend time together
and stay. Protected so this is a great, advice great.
Information Jim, ryan always a pleasure to talk with.
Speaker 9 (35:33):
You Thanks.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Heather all, right let's get back to some of the
stories coming out of THE kfi twenty four hour. Newsroom

anti immigration enforcement protests In la And Ventura. Counties the
FBI's Akille davis says the protests this summer were mostly,
peaceful but these defendants broke the. Law we're not here
