(00:28):
This is your wake up call forFriday, May seventeen. I'm Amy

the iHeart app or you're listening onthe radio, We're happy you're here to
get your day started. Kick offto the weekend. It's going to be
a busy, busy day as always. Hey, last night I was watching

(00:50):
Amazing Race. It's actually on Wednesdaynights, but I go to bed before
it's on, so I watched ityesterday and one of the things that the
teams had to do in the finalewhen they were in Philadelphia was they had
to memorize the preamble to the Declarationof Independence. And I was like,
you don't think that I even knowthat? And I was. I kind

(01:14):
of was getting teared up listening tothem like recited, and so I thought,
maybe we'd start our Friday with thePreamble to the Declaration of independence.
We hold these truths to be selfevident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their creatorwith certain unalienable rights, that among

(01:36):
these are life, liberty, andthe pursuit of happiness. That to secure
these rights, governments are instituted amongmen, deriving their just powers from the
consent of the governed. That wheneverany form of government becomes destructive of these
ends, it is the right ofthe people to alter or to abolish it,

(01:56):
and to institute new government, layingits foundation on such principles, and
organizing its power in such form asto them shall seem most likely to affect
their safety and happiness. Words wedon't hear very often, but it's what
we're I mean, it's what weare thought. It was kind of a
cool reminder and a nice patriotic data. Is a way to start the day.

(02:20):
Here's what's ahead on wake up call. A Metro passenger has been shot
and killed on a bus in Commerce. The shooting yesterday is the fourth violent
attack on the Metro system just thisweek. La Mayor Bath says it's no
longer safe on Metro and announced plansto add more police to buses, trains,
and stations. Closing arguments could beheld on Tuesday. In former President
Trump's trial in Manhattan. The judgesays both sides should be ready by then.

(02:45):
Court adjourned for the week after exTrump lawyer Michael Cohen's testimony wrapped up
yesterday. We're going to be talkingwith ABC's Peter Hara Lumbus, who's been
in the courtroom in Manhattan. We'lltalk to him in just a couple of
minutes. The number one golfer inthe world, who's favored to win the
PGA Championship, has been cuffed andput in the back of a cop car.
ESPN Siscottie Scheffler was detained for notfollowing police instruction during traffic delays outside

(03:12):
Valhalla. Okay, that'll be interestingto say. I hope they get the
cuffs off in time for him totee it up. We'll check in with
Jason Nathanson to find out if ImaginaryFriends. We'll make a splash at the
box office and sometime this hour,I've got a four pack of one day,
one park tickets to the Disneyland resort, so you can go check out
Pixar Fest at Disneyland or Disney CaliforniaAdventure Park that's coming up this hour.

(03:36):
Let's get started with some of thestories coming out of the KFI twenty four
hour newsroom. A man riding ametro bus and commerce has been fatally shot
by another passenger. La County Sheriff'sdeputies were called yesterday afternoon to a stretch
of Slawson Avenue between Eastern and Garfieldwhere the bus was stopped. Suspect approached
the victim from behind, pointed afirearm at the victim. The victims sustained
a gunshot wound. Lieutenant Arthur Spencersays the shooter ran off but was caught

(04:00):
a short distance away. The injuredman died at the hospital. More police
officers are going to be patrolling theMetro system in La Mayor Bass ordered the
added officers. The mayor and otherMetro board members have also ruled out a
motion that would increase police deployments onthe system. The mayor says the system
has had a spike of violent crime. When you have a spike, you

(04:21):
respond aggressively to that spike, andthat's what we're doing. Two people were
stabbed on the Metro system earlier thisweek. Officers say they've recently arrested people
for having drugs and weapons on themin downtown La Blake trolley Kafin News.
Airports are expected to be jam packedthis summer. TSA officials say they're expecting
six to eight percent more people totravel around the US this year compared to

(04:44):
last. With Memorial Day just aroundthe corner, officials are urging people to
get to airports early, get parked, and be prepared for long lines at
TSA checkpoints. Let's say, goodmorning now too, Peter Plumboss Peter,
no court today, but a lothappened. Yes, so if you would
tell us what happened. During thecross examination of former Trump fixer Michael Cohen,

(05:06):
yeah so. Over six hours ofcross examination, defense lawyers hammered at
Michael Cohen's credibility and suggested that Cohenlied about a major piece of evidence in
the case. So on Tuesday,Cohen told jurors that in the days before
the twenty sixteen election, he calledDonald Trump through his security guard to confirm
the plan to go forward with ahush money payment to Stormy Daniels. But

(05:28):
yesterday defense lawyer's team was evidence suggestingthat at the time, the major issue
on Cohen's mind, and the reasonfor that phone call was actually the fact
that Cohen was being dealing with anonslaught of prank calls from a fourteen year
old. Or saw text messages betweenthe fourteen year old and Cohen, fourteen
year old saying quote, I didn'tdo it in all caps, I'm fourteen.
Please don't Michael Cohen say he wasgoing to refer to the matter to

(05:51):
the Secret Service. And then wesaw text messages between Cohen and Donald Trump's
security guard about referring the matter tothe Secret Service. The evidence all suggesting
that the reason Michael Cohen placed thatphone call on October twenty fourth, twenty
sixteen, the one he said wasabout the stormy Daniel Toush money payments,
was actually for Cohen to complain aboutthis prank caller. Cohen stood by his

(06:13):
testimony, suggesting that at the endof the day, he was calling for
both to both complain about the prankcaller and talk to Donald Trump. But
it remains an open question at thispoint whether or not the jury is going
to see his entire testimony as credible. Michael Cohen's the only witness in this
case who clearly pins Donald Trump tothe underlying criminal conduct in his case.
Even if it's just one minor inconsistencyin his testimony, they could have a

(06:34):
wide, raging impact on his credibilitywith this jury and their ability to trust
everything he said at face value, because the whole thing is about creating reasonable
doubt. Right. Yes, it'sone hundred percent right. And that was
completely the aim of these two daysof cross examination. Poke holes wherever they
can in Michael Cohen's testimony and hopethat they could help create that reasonable doubt

(06:57):
in the mind of this jury sothey don't take Michael Cohen word and they
tossed out his testimony basically. Okay, And now, Peter, I'm going
to remind everybody that you're in thecourtroom, so you're seeing how they're reacting
and interacting and that kind of thing. And what we've heard is that Michael
Cohen has been very calm on thestand and hasn't really seemed flustered or anything.

(07:18):
Is that how he is? That'sfair. I mean, I've seen
Michael Cohen testify before, and hewas a flustered, defensive person on the
witness stand. He's very different duringthis trial. He's composed, he maintains
it's cool. He answers every questionwith a yes sir or a no,
sir. He hasn't really kind offell into lines of question that would get

(07:39):
him agitated. But interestingly, yesterdaythe jury heard a different side of Michael
Cohen through a recording of Michael Cohen'spodcast. So while Michael Cohen might become
cool and collected on the witness stand, they heard what Michael Cohen sounds like
when he goes on a podcast. They heard Cohen say, quote, I
want this man to go down androt inside. That's the most team quote,

(07:59):
by the way, way that Ican say on the radio. There
were other quotes that really suggested therewas this deep animosity Michael Cohen seeming giddy
about the idea of Donald Trump gettingindicted and going to prison. So while
the jury might have heard a common, cool, collected Michael cone on the
witness stand, they also heard anexample that Michael coe is not always that
way, and that you know, when you take him out of the context

(08:20):
of a courtroom, he can soundvery different about his former boss. Yeah,
and it's that, you know, with the whole personal vendetta thing.
Then saying, you know what,He's willing to go to any length to
see Trump get in trouble or getconvicted. So be interesting to see how
they react to that. Is thereany indication whether Trump is actually going to

(08:41):
take the stand. He has saidbefore that he would be willing to,
but now they're saying, now weprobably won't, or do we have any
update on that? So defense lawyershaven't made a final decision. The judges
asked them that on multiple times thisweek. One of my colleagues, who
was working in the hallway yesterday tohandle I guess the camera for Trump's remarks,
asks Trump whether or not he's goingto testify. Trump didn't answer that

(09:03):
question, but yeah, we've knownhe wants to testify. We know he's
kind of had cold feet with thegag order in the case. But it
remains an open question, and thatquestion will really determine what the timeline of
this trial looks like. If DonaldTrump testifies, that's going to take up
a good portion of next week. It's likely going to push closing statements until
after Memorial Day, with deliberations beginningin late May, possibly even early June.

(09:26):
Though if Donald Trump doesn't testify, the judges ready for the closing statements
in this case to happen on Tuesday, meaning the jury could get the case
Tuesday afternoon or begin deliberating on Thursday. That could rapidly speed up the timeline
for this case and possibly have averdict by the end of next week.
Wow. Okay, then, andis Cohen done or is he back on
the stand Monday? So Cohen's nearlythere. He's got about another hour or

(09:52):
so of cross examination on Monday morning, then a redirect examination where prosecutors will
try to rehabilitate some of the damagefrom that cross examination. After that,
he's the last prosecution witness. Theprosecution will rest their case after twenty witnesses
in total, more than four weeksof testimony. And at that point it's
now in the defense's hands to determinehow much of a case they want to

(10:13):
present. They've suggested that they mightcall one defense expert witness and then only
Donald Trump if they decide to makethat decision. Okay, And you just
mentioned that the trial's been going onfor four weeks already. Are you seeing
anything about people inside the courtroom andgetting antsy to get this thing done?
Honestly, I hear a lot ofamptiness from some members of the media in

(10:35):
terms of their plans for the longweekends, and you know, this thing
not getting in the way of thesummer. But there hasn't been any indication
from the jury that they're tired orthey're falling asleep. They seem as attentive
as they were on day one ofthis trial, to be honest. So
it doesn't seem like anyone's exhausted yet. So this thing has been going on
for a while when you consider juryselection, that one week of jury selection,

(10:58):
this trial has been going on inNew York five weeks now, four
weeks of testimony in front of ajury. Well all right, well,
thank you for your information and yourinsight, because again, you've got eyes
on it and most people don't.And it's been really interesting to watch all
the recaps on the on the cablechannels of how they're trying to portray what's
going on in the courtroom because theycan't see it and they can't hear it

(11:22):
to share it with us. SoI love that you're in there for us.
It's absolutely my pleasure to talk itthrough every day whenever the opportunity comes
up, happy to do so.All right, Well, let's plan to
talk next week then, Peter HireOlumbus, thank you so much for your
time. Have a great weekend,Have a great weekend. All right,
Let's get back to some of thestories coming out of the KFI twenty four
hour newsroom. Classes that you seeIrvine are returning to in person instruction.

(11:46):
Days after police and riot gear clearedout pro Palestinian protesters. Demonstrators had occupied
a lecture hall Wednesday, in whatChancellor Howard Gilman called a sad day for
our university. Nearly fifty people werein arrest, including some who said they
are UCI faculty members. Sonoma StateUniversity President Mike Lee has been placed on

(12:07):
administrative leave after without approval from thecal State system. He sent out a
campus wide email talking about an agreementmade between the school and pro Palestinian protesters.
I think the administrative leave doesn't gofar enough that particular university leader has
no place leading a university in ourstate. California Congressman Kevin Kyleie says universities

(12:28):
that have elevated the voices and caveto the demands of protesters have silenced pro
Israelian Jewish groups. CSU says Leehas been put on leave because of insubordination
and consequences it has brought upon thesystem. Lee says he takes full ownership
of his actions. Leaders in LAhave spoken out against a statewide ballot measure.

(12:50):
The business groups behind the Taxpayer Protectionand Government Accountability Acts say it would
give control over future taxes and taxincreases to voters. LA Mayor Karen Bass
opposes it and was joined at acity hall rally yesterday by labor leaders and
city Council President Paul Grekorian, whosays voters should say no. This is
another cynical, deceitful, dishonest attackon government. The opponents of the measure

(13:15):
argue it threatens billions of dollars inexisting fees and charges and already approved ballot
measures. Michael monks KFI News thereis a chase going on. Normally these
happened a little later in the day, but there's somebody in a white van.
Apparently it's a woman, and policehave been following her trying to get
her to pull over. They've rammedthe van that she's in several times.

(13:37):
She was in neighborhoods. Then she'sback on the four or five, but
now she's speeding the wrong way onthe four h five and like into oncoming
traffic. It's just crazy. They'vegot the police helicopters over her, and
it looks like they've shut down thefreeway because now the freeway, the freeway

(13:58):
north bound is clear. Oh mygoodness, so they've stopped traffic, and
now she's coming up to that lineof where the traffic has stopped, so
there's a ton of cars waiting toget through, and she just plowed straight
into several of them, including confidingcame to a stop when it hit a

(14:22):
semi and now the feed's breaking up, but it looks like she's gotten out
and is running off and just lefta trail of destruction. Oh my goodness.
That is just scary. And nowsomebody's crawling climbing up onto the top
of a white van. Don't knowif that's the person that they're going after,

(14:46):
if it's somebody else, but there'sfour or five wrecked cars and this
person just went head on and nowpolice are going after them with it,
going after the person with a taser. We thought it was a woman.
It looks like a man can't tell, but was driving erratically and just now
she's got her hands over her headand she's surrounded by police again. This

(15:11):
is on the four h five atexit fifty five at Wiltshire Boulevard. Traffic
at a standstill, several officers aroundthis person and now they're grabbing that person
and taking him into custody. Wow, that is a crazy way to start
the day. So if you're stuckon the four h five, that is
why. Hopefully they'll figure out whatwas going on. This person was driving

(15:35):
like erratically and then they it wouldget hit by a police car and then
would spin around and keep on goingand then would get rammed by a police
cars they do those pit maneuvers andthen would keep going and just very very
crazy. Okay, did we getJim Ryan back on the phone. Okay,
Well, let's get back to whatwe're following in the KFI twenty four

(15:56):
hour newsroom. Looks like they havetaken this person into custody. The county
supervisors have voted to approve funding forthe legal bills of pro Palestinian protesters who
were arrested at UCLA. Republican SupervisorCatherine Barger was the sole vote against the
motion. The Biden administration is movingforward with a proposal to reclassify marijuana from

(16:18):
a Schedule one to a Schedule threedrug. In a video posted on ex
President Biden called the proposal an importantmove toward reversing long standing inequities. Gaza
is getting aid thanks to that floatingpier the US built in the Mediterranean Sea.
A judge has given Huntington Beach onehundred and twenty days to come up

(16:41):
with a plan that zones for morethan thirteen thousand affordable housing units. Huntington
Beach is not above the law.State ag Rob Bonta says his office will
not stop fighting to solve the housingcrisis, working with cities and counties that
genuinely want to be part of thesolution, and holding accountable those that do
not. Huntington b City Attorney MichaelGates says he will appeal Tuesday's rule on
the year long lawsuit. The environmentalprotections under State Lark completely being trampled,

(17:04):
ignored, and set aside in favorof heighthensity development. The housing mandate requires
cities to zone for affordable housing, which developers can then decide to build by
twenty thirty in Orange County. CorbinCarson kf I news. A fifteen year
old boy attacked by three other teensin South la is in grave condition.
Police a two teens were eating ata restaurant on Tuesday night when they were

(17:25):
approached from behind and brutally beaten. The fifteen year old sister says her brother
did not know the people who areattacked her attacked him. One guy was
arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder. Investigators are trying to find the two
others. A ups driver has beenfatally shot in Irvine. Police Sergeant Carrie
Davies says the driver was on lunchbreak yesterday in his van when a pickup

(17:48):
truck pulled up and the driver fireda shot. The driver of the suspect
vehicle never got out of the car, just reached across the passenger seat and
shot the driver through the window.Davy says it does not appear to have
been a robbery. The suspected shooterwas arrested a few hours later in Orange
following a standoff with SWAT. TheFBI, says former La City Attorney Mike
Feuer lied to investigators looking into howthe city handled litigation over the botched rollout

(18:11):
of a DWP billing system. Itled to a lot of customers being wildly
overcharged. The court documents were releasedthis week. Fewer was never charged with
a crime and has denied he knewanything about any collusion in the handling of
the litigation over the flawed billing system. Country singer Zach Bryan and his girlfriend
have walked away from what they calla traumatizing car crash while headed to Arkansas.

(18:33):
Podcaster Brianna chicken Fry says their carflipped several times Tuesday and there was
glass everywhere. Thank god, wehad our seatbelts on, but there was
a lot of blood and we thoughtlike we were like saying goodbye to each
other. She says. Brian neededstitches, but they're doing well and are
happy to be alive. Brian iscurrently on his Quitton Time tour and played

(18:56):
a show in Arkansas the day afterthe crash. He'll be heading to la
soon, where he'll do three nightsat Crypto dot Com Arena starting on June's
second. A woman in a whitevan's been taken into custody after a wild
chase around West LA this morning. The chase ended when the drivers, speeding
southbound in northbound lanes crashed into severalvehicles that police had stopped on the freeway

(19:18):
for the chase. At least twoofficers were hurt. The carpool lane appears
to be getting through on the fouror five, but that's about it for
now. Russell's going to get anupdate for us on that. In just
a couple of minutes, a Metropassenger has been shot and killed on a
bus in Commerce. The shooting yesterdayafternoon is the fourth violent attack on the
Metro system this week. LA MayorBaths says it's no longer safe on Metro

(19:38):
and announced plans to add more policeto buses, trains, and train stations.
And La Metro Committee has approved anew budget for the agency that is
larger than the budgets of eleven statesin the US. The committee says the
nearly nine billion dollar spending plan willbe used to finalize infrastructure projects, boost
ridership, and increase safety. FiveHandle on the News. Something apparently happened

(20:02):
four years ago at Supreme Court JusticeSamuel Alito's house, and it's causing a
big stink. Now, I'll tellyou about what it is at five point
fifty. Nothing imaginary about this friend. ABC's Jason Nathanson will join us with
if in Theaters. I've been waitingthis for this one for a long time
too, Season three, one ofmy favorite shows on the stream. Let's
say good morning now to the hostof Home on KFI. It's the house

(20:25):
whisper, Dean Sharp. Good morningDean, Good morning Amy. You know
we're going to talk about all ofus being biophiliacs in just a second.
But also I know that you area bee guy and World b Day is
Monday. Did you know that?I did not know that it is.
Do you have a Do you havea hive? I? Do you have

(20:47):
a well? I went out tothe Valley Hive in Chatsworth. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, And so we'regoing to take you on a little journey
to discover bees for World b Dayon Monday. So I thought i'd let
you know about because I know you'rea big b fan. That's perfect That
Vallei Hive is the best place intown to do that too, So great.

(21:08):
Okay, so let's talk about beingbiophilias biofiliate. Is it well?
We're talking about outdoor living this weekend, and I'm taking a slightly different approach.
I feel like I have over theyears here warmed up our listeners enough
to hit them with the hard stuff. And that is basically biophilic design.

(21:32):
And it's not anything radically new.Architecture has been addressing it for a while,
but it's important to understand, Ithink more and more important these days.
Biophilia simply means a love of nature, or maybe the better way to
express it or translated is a partnershipwith nature. I love nature. I

(21:53):
know you do. We all do. And here's the thing. Here's the
thing. We all love nature morethen even a lot of people realize they
love nature, because there are folksout there these days, lots who are
like, no, I'm kind ofan inside person, I'm kind of an
urban person. I'm not a naturelover. Well you may think that,
but it's actually not true. Atleast it's not true for your body.

(22:18):
And that's what biophilic design is allabout. It addresses the fact that we're
starting to realize now in a majorway, so much of the stress,
anxiety, and learning disability issues thatwe have contributed to our inexperiencing our generation
like never before. That a lotof it comes from the fact that we

(22:41):
have cut ourselves off more and morefrom the natural world around us when our
bodies are programmed to be a partof it. I mean, we're talking
about two million years of experience withthe surroundings and the sensorial experience of outdoors.
And now, more than ever, especially like in the last seventeen years,

(23:04):
we're indoors. We're glued to screensall day long, and it's having
its effect on us. And soeven our solutions get ahead in the wrong
direction. And what I mean bythat is, well, let me ask
you this. I'll give you alittle quiz. Okay, are you ready?
All right? So you know,we all know that noise at some
level is stressful, right, Urbannoise is stressful. In fact, we

(23:26):
found that studies have shown every fivedecibel increase in background noise correspondingly decreases reading
comprehension in children by two months.Right. Well, constant background noise,
yeah, all right, you raisethe level of that noise five decibels,
you will decrease reading comprehension levels bytwo months of progress. And the more

(23:52):
you go, the more it decreases. Okay, it's attention deficit issues,
it's learning comprehension issue, and soon. So we all know that noise
is stressful to us. It raisescortisol levels in us, whether we are
paying attention to it or not.So we naturally these days try to escape
at times from the noise and getquiet. So here's the quiz. When

(24:15):
you're getting away from urban noise, what do scientific studies revealed to be the
sound environment most relaxing to the humanmind. Is it meditative music, quiet,
meditative music like we put in ourheadphones. Is it total silence like

(24:36):
you put your headphones on noise cancelingmode and you just sit in silence.
Or bird song? Which is it? Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna guess
based on what you've just been tellingus, that it's going to be bird
song. It is absolutely one hundredpercent bird song, without question, without
question. Noise is stressful to us, but we're beginning to find out that

(24:59):
total silence is also when we're awake, is also stressful to the human mind.
And the reason is this. Wehave cohabitated outdoors in nature with birds,
like I said, for two millionyears and birds are amazing. They're
hyper aware of their environment, andso when there are predators nearby, or
when there are dangers nearby, guesswhat the birds do. Sinking silent,

(25:22):
they stop singing. Okay, Soabsolute silence to a human mind on a
deeply subconscious level, is actually morestressful than hearing birds song, because when
we get up in the morning andthe birds are chirping and singing and going
about their business, whether we realizeit or not, it is a message
to us to our brains, hey, everything's okay, business is usual,

(25:48):
it's safe out here. Enjoy yourday. And that's literally what it communicates
to our minds because we have beeningrained to understand it that way. And
that is just one example of whatwe're talking about when we say biophilic design,
and we're not talking about stuff like, oh, sure, Dean,
if you have ten million dollars, you can build a house like a nautilus
shell and have you No, no, no, no, it's not that

(26:11):
this weekend. We're talking about verysimple things like, hey, for your
backyard, buy a bird feeder, bring birds into your yard. You you
will have less stress and be morerelaxed when you spend time outdoors. Oh
I love that. Okay, well, I'm going to look forward to that
because it sounds so nice and relaxing. It is, And I bet you

(26:33):
have a relative. I bet youhave other tips and tricks to make your
outdoor space relaxing and inviting and biophilic. Exactly. It's just the tip of
the iceberg. We have a wholelist of things that people real things,
real world things that people can dowith their own homes to change the way
they experience nature around their home.Yes, I think we do need to

(26:57):
reconnect with nature. It's going tobe so interesting. Okay, So you
can listen to Dean Sharp. Hehas a show called at Home with Dean.
Actually, it's just Home with DeanSharp, isn't it. What's the
it's home? Yeah, home,It's just home. So come on home
to KFI Saturday from six to eightam, and then also on Sunday from

(27:18):
nine to noon with Dean. Sorry, Dean, I'm I'm discombobulated because I'm
excited because we're giving away Disneyland tickets. In a second. Oh my gosh,
can I can I participate? No? No, sorry, it's for
week up call listeners only, Sothank you. So much. Looking forward
to finding out more about biophiliac. Is it philiac or philic? Uh?

(27:41):
Biophilia? Okay, Pha, loveit? Thank you, Dan Jay,
thank you. Have a good day. Uh. Let's get back to some
of the stories coming out of theKFI twenty four hour newsroom. A volunteer
who offered medical aide protesters at UCLAsays it was like a battlefield when police
moved in to clear the camp.Elaine Chan went to UCLA and says she

(28:02):
was treating broken bones, head injuries, and bleeding wounds without water and power.
She told Kaiser Health News the injurieswere from rubber bullets and other less
lethal weapons, but a tipity chieffrom LAPD and a source with CHP both
say they don't even own rubber bullets, and the primary less lethal weapon of
choice as a forty millimeters foam projectile. Pepper spray, aerial flash bangs and
batons are also used. A beanbackground is used for targeted tactical situations and

(28:26):
typically not in large crowds. Allweapons are deployed only when directed to do
so. Steve Gregory Kaphie News Israeliprotesters have attacked a truck in the West
Bank after an apparent effort to blockAID into Gaza. The Israeli military says
the protesters beat the driver and setthe truck on fire. Israeli soldiers were
also attacked as they tried to separatethe attackers from the driver and provide medical

(28:49):
treatment. Israeli media says the truckwas carrying ordinary commercial goods, not AID
for Gaza. The third annual Women'sLifeguard Prep Academy is taking over Venice Beach
this weekend. The two day academy, hosted by the La County Fire Department,
is open to anyone sixteen and olderinterested in training for a career as
an ocean lifeguard. Participants will beled by professional lifeguards and firefighters. They'll

(29:11):
swim in the ocean, run inthe sand, and do a series of
physical fitness exercises. We're following thatwild chase this morning on the four or
five. It is over after severalpit maneuvers by LAPD officers. A female
suspect in a white van who hadevaded police during a high speed chase has
been detained near the Wilshire Boulevard exitof the northbound four or five Freeway.

(29:37):
She was speeding southbound in lanes andcrashed into several cars. That's when the
chase finally ended. Almost half theprotesters arrested at UC Irvine this week were
not students. Twenty six were students, two were faculty, nineteen had no
affiliation with the school. You see, Irvine will resume in person classes today
following the protests earlier this week, the House is passed the Ticket Act,

(30:00):
which will make ticket sellers disclose allhidden fees before you actually purchase the tickets.
It also bans sales of tickets thatsellers don't actually have, and guarantees
refunds for events that get canceled. It now moves over to the Senate.
We're just minutes away from handle. On the news this morning, the Biden
administration says it's going to speed upthe process for people crossing the border claiming

(30:21):
asylum. But right now, let'ssay good morning to ABC's Jason Nathansen.
Jason, what if we all wentto the movies this weekend? What would
we see? We would see ifImaginary Friends. Although I think this chase
this morning was quite more captivating thanany of the movies. It was wild.
I haven't seen something like that, especially live in a long time.

(30:42):
I hope the people in those carsare okay, But that was that's a
wild, wild chase anyway, ifis it stands for an imaginary friend?
Right? If always would I didn'teven make that case, So there you
go. It's from writing director JohnKrasinski. It's about a girl who discover
she can see everyone's imaginary friends, and she embarks on a magical adventure to

(31:04):
reconnect forgotten imaginary friends with their kids. Right, because when you have an
imaginary friend is a kid. Whenyou're a kid, then you grow up
and you forget about that imaginary friend, but the imaginary friends still there.
It's just in limbo. What doesit do? Where does it go?
How does it? You know?So that's kind of what that's about.
Ryan Reynolds Stars. This is liveaction and animation, So like Roger Rabbit,

(31:26):
right, think about that, Like, so you have actual actors walking
around in the world with animated beings. Ryan Reynolds Stars, he's a real
life person in this. Kayleie Flemingis the girl in this. And then
you have the voices of the imaginaryfriends voiced by Steve Carell, Phoebe waller
Bridge, Matt Damon, Emily Bluntof course, because that's John Krasinski's wife,

(31:47):
and a bunch of others. Butunfortunately, if just didn't work for
me. I really wanted. Ilove the premise and I love the thought
of it and the Roger Rabbit comparison. Just no that that's the style that
you're kind of going into, butthe movie's nothing like that, So don't
expect that kind of energy. Don'tlike, get that out of your mind.

(32:07):
Okay. I wanted it to havea little bit more of that energy,
but it did not. It wasjust a bit too serious. It
was trying too hard to be emotional. I didn't cry once, although it
really wanted me to, like reallybad at wanted me, and I just
it's it's a little slow and alittle too kind of cloying there. I
can't see little kids liking it becauseit's a little too slow and not wacky

(32:29):
enough, like there's a sweet spotin there maybe for an eleven or twelve
year old, And that's kind ofit. And I have to say,
I went to a theater where abunch of kids were watching it. There
are kids on their iPads in thetheater with the sound on in the iPad,
So parents, please do a betterjob. That's really annoying. Yeah,
the hearts were in the right placein the making of this movie,

(32:51):
just didn't work for me six pointfour out of ten, So on the
Jason on them. But it's goingto win the weekend and pretty well because
we haven't had a family type friendlyfilm in a while. And that big
furry one is so cute. Yeahit is. Some of the characters are
cute, but yeah, just amiss okay, not cute enough, Okay,

(33:12):
So then let's move on. We'vegot Amy Winehouse in theaters thirteen years
after she died. Why, Yeah, this is a biopic about her.
We haven't had that, and herlife is certainly warranted of that and her
voice and everything about her, andI think a lot of people there are
a lot of questions about exactly whathappened. Why did a twenty seven year
old woman basically drink herself to deathwhen she was on top of the world,

(33:36):
and you know, she had avoice that was just so unique and
so wonderful. So that's what thisstory is about. Back to black,
the story of Amy Winehouse played byMarisa Abella, who when first clips of
this came out. She was savagedon the internet, particularly on TikTok because
said she didn't look enough like AmyNo her voice people were they thought that

(33:59):
the singing was very affected and MarissaAbela is doing I don't know if it's
all the singing, but she doesa lot of the singing in this,
and they felt that her voice justdidn't stand up to Amy Winehouse's, that
it was too affected with the runs, and Ammy Winehouse had a very affected
voice. I would say put thataside. It's not a train wreck.
It's not a disaster. Some peoplewere worried about or had you believe.

(34:20):
But the film itself, I don'tknow that it does Amy Winehouse justice because
a film like this could be anOscar winning film, right. We've seen
him before, certainly when it comesto music biopics. If done right,
they do win Oscars. This isnot there. It's not terrible, so
maybe wait and watch it on thestream. Possibly Mauricy Abella brings a nice

(34:44):
humanity to it, but we justdon't learn enough. I feel about the
demons that drove this woman to basicallydrink herself to death, and maybe she
didn't have those demons. Some peopleare just their their chemistry is like that.
You know, they don't necessarily needtrauma to then turn into the trad
But too many unanswered questions here sixpoint six out of ten for me.

(35:05):
Okay, and then finally, let'smove over to the stream because I've been
waiting for this one for a while. Now, are you talking about Bridgerton?
Yes, I assume season three atBridgerton, which is out, and
yes, people have been waiting fora while fans of Bridgerton, of which
I am not. I really Ilike it's more of a chick flicky kind
of thing. Yeah, but that'sfine. I like chicklicks like I have

(35:27):
no problem with that. And Idid watch the first season and enjoy it.
Second season I just dropped off.Didn't do anything for me, and
I didn't go back to it,and I don't know that I'm going to
go back to it. But thisseason is getting mostly positive reviews. People
seem to really be liking it,and you know, it's more of the
same kind of stuff you can expect. Covers, you know, classical style
covers of Taylor Swift and Billie Eilishand things like that. That's one of

(35:51):
my favorite things about Bridgerton. Isthe music. I know people love the
soundtrack and score for those reasons,so you can expect a lot more of
that. The costumes, the Regencyera drama, all of that is back.
And they're splitting this season into twoparts, so you get a bunch
of episodes now and then you're gonnaget the second half of it next month
June thirteenth. Oh and speaking ofthat, yes, you got me all

(36:14):
excited for Hacks. And they didthe same thing with Hacks. They only
let out four episodes and then theyjust released two more. Well, no,
they did two at the beginning andthen two. They're doing a weekly
drop for Hacks, and that they'redoing two episodes a week. I believe
that that's the case, and that'sbeen the case. That's how Max releases
stuff. They're usually not an allat once type, but all of these

(36:36):
streaming services they're playing around with differentthings because at the end of the day,
what's most important for them is thatyou stay watching on the service.
So if you release it, I'mjust going to give all of you guys
a message right now, Netflix,Max, release it all at once,
and I promise you I will sitby my television set all weekend and binge
it. Yeah, but then onceyou're done, you're done, and then

(36:57):
you don't turn it on again.Yes, I do. I go look
for more stuff. Okay, wellthere you go. All right. Jason
Nathanson, thank you so much forall the information. You're very welcome.
