get the gate the day going.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
A ready? I don't know?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Am I basking? And the Dodger win from last night? Wow,
what a fun game we had Will Cole Schreiber circling
I was I.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Kept going the plane, the plane.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Your friends were probably like, yeah, sure, Amy, sure we
saw you.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
I got I got a picture of you or a
little quick video of you posted on Instagram.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I'm like, that's Will's plane.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
Well, I posted a little video of you. Did you
see that on Instagram?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
No, the one with you in the with the stadium
in the background that says, hey, can you see Amy.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
Zum on you?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, and put a little red circle around you and
you were enjoying a very tall beverage op.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
That wasn't me. Oh, I'll have to go look at it.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
Okaykay.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
But so the game as good as the game was,
the traffic was that bad? Oh my gosh, does that
happen every game? We usually we sneak out, like we
get up out of our seats. We watched the game
and then run out the door, right, And I was like, no,
it's not it's.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
An early game. It's like, you know, it's only six o'clock.
We got plenty of time.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
And uh so we stayed till the last pitch and
then we got stuck and just logged in.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Put that on Instagram too.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
It's at Amy k King if you wanted to just
take a quick look, like we didn't move for twenty minutes,
not even once.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
We're like, where who's moving? Somebody's got to be moved.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
And then there was a little bit of creative driving
and we got out, but it took us like almost
an hour to get out of the stadium. Crazy, always crazy,
But that's okay. I guess if you plan for it,
you know it's going to happen. And everybody was in
a happy mood. So what are you going to say
except for go Dodgers. Okay, here's what's ahead on wake
up call. Speaking of the Dodgers are just one win
(02:22):
away from a return to the world series. The Boys
in Blue went up three games to none on the Brewers.
With a three to one win over Milwaukee at Dodger Stadium,
the Dodgers could clinch the National League Division Series. Tonight,
Game four gets underway at five point thirty eight. You
can listen to all the action on our sister station
A five seventy l KLAC. The father of a little
(02:43):
boy whose mother originally reported that he had been kidnapped
and Yukaipa, has pleaded guilty to charges of second degree murder.
Seven month old Emmanuel Harrow was last seen in August
his parents, who are arrested weeks later. The little boy's
body has not been found. J Caro could be sentenced
to life in prison for the plea. US Senate employees
(03:06):
will not be getting another paycheck until the federal government's
shutdown is over. The Senate's financial clerk sent out a
letter yesterday letting them know that Senators, on the other hand,
they still get paid because their compensation is mandated by
the Constitution. The shutdown is in its seventeenth day. Something
must have gone right. Yesterday, during a call between President
(03:27):
Trump and Russia's President Putin, ABC's Karen Travers is going
to join us to tell us about the face to
face that's been planned following that phone call. It's open
enrollment time for Medicare. Do you need to sign up?
Do your parents need to sign up? What you need
to do?
Speaker 4 (03:42):
When?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
What you need to know with the one and only
doctor Mehmet Oz. He's going to join us this morning
at five twenty. He's the new head of the Medicare program.
So excited to talk to doctor Oz. At five twenty.
ABC's Mike Dubuski is going to join us to let
us know what's going to scare our pants off in
theaters this weekend that's coming up before the end of
the hour, and something to help you get ahead of
the game for your Christmas shopping by shopping local and
(04:06):
more importantly, supporting artists and artisans affected by the Eton fire.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Got a really cool event coming up. I'm going to
tell you about that at the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Let's get started with some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Federal prosecutors have
charged two men with stealing millions from public homeless funds.
Speaker 7 (04:24):
Both cases involve allegations of lying about bank accounts in
order to access public cash for homeless housing projects. Acting
US Attorney Bill A. Saley says his Criminal Task Force
on homeless funds will continue to root out bad actors.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
If you steal money or allow it to be stolen,
we will find you and we will prosecute you.
Speaker 7 (04:42):
One guy is accused of stealing two million dollars from
a twenty six million dollar grant for a housing project
one thousand Oaks. Another allegedly lined about how much a
property was worth when he sold it to a publicly
funded firm for twenty seven million dollars. Michael Monks KFI News.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
An immigration rights activist in Ventura County, says federal agents
into his pickup truck on purpose and then lied about it.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
This smashed into me, and then they tried to accuse me.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
Of assaulting love.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Leo Martinez was arrested in Oxnard, but later released. Video
filmed by a witness shows and a suv driven by
federal agents swerving directly into the side of his pickup.
Martinez's agents refused to say what charges they were filing.
He says no one mentioned paying for the damage to
his truck. Martinez is a US citizen who insists he
was legally observing ice agents and will be out doing
(05:32):
that again. The most dangerous intersection in Los Angeles is
South Figueroa and Slawson. That's according to analysis from Crosstown LA.
The nonprofit news organization says it analyzed data from the
LAPD over a ten year period. It found sixty six
serious crashes at that intersection over the last four years.
So Pulvida and Roscoe in the valley that was second
(05:54):
most dangerous. Figueroa and Manchester and South LA was rated third.
Let's say good morning now to a VC's Karen Traver's Good.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Morning, Karen.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
President Trump is meeting with Ukraine's President Zelenski today. Yesterday
he had a phone call with Russia's President Putin.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
How did that go?
Speaker 9 (06:14):
Yeah, The President said that the phone call with Putin,
he believes great progress was made. As he put it,
The big thing to come out of that, according to
the President, is that he wants to meet with Putin
again two months after their Alaska summit, and that he
is going to do this pretty soon in Budapest, Hungary.
He didn't say exactly when. The President later said within
(06:35):
two weeks or around two weeks. But the timing on
that's a little odd because he's going to Asia about
a week and a half. But the expectation is that
the Secretary of State Mark or Rubio would meet with
senior Russian officials next week and then we will see
where it goes from there. The President, though, even just
talking to Putin yesterday the day before meeting with Zelenski
(06:55):
at the White House, that is really significant because the
President had been indicating that he might be willing to
give Zolensky the Tomahawk missile that Zelensky is expected to
formally be asking for today in this meeting, and the
President that he spoke to Putin about that and Putin
didn't like the idea. That's the president's quote. So we
will see if the President does, you know, give into
(07:18):
that request today from Vilensky, or if the nature of
the meeting today has changed because of any lobbying that
Putin did yesterday in that two hour phone call.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah, so he said progress was made, but then he
didn't specifically say anything really right, she used to.
Speaker 9 (07:35):
He's not, you know, progress in the sense that he
they'll have a meeting, and I think that's the progress
for the president. He was asked yesterday why he would
do this, and he said he thinks Alaska set the
stage for a second meeting. I think it's important to
note when you look at what's happened since Alaska, when
the president you know, quite literally rolled out a red
carpet for Vladimir Putin. Russia has escalated the attacks on Ukraine,
(07:58):
It sent drones into some native countries, and you know,
there's been a real concern among countries in that region
that the things that flid backwards, there hasn't been any
progress sort of peace settlement, and that Putin hasn't taken
any steps that there with an expectation coming out of
that summit that would be taken.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
So we'll see if any progress is made the next
time they meet. Yeah, it's I think that you know,
just watching, don't you're you're a lot closer to it,
But don't you think I mean, like Trump gets it
under his skin and is like, I got to sell this,
this is what I want to do.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
So he just keeps hammering away at it.
Speaker 9 (08:35):
Yeah, and he's been very clear that he's frustrated by this,
he's disappointed in Putin, and you know, Putin has you know,
a track record of being able to go into these
conversations and you know, doing some Like I said, lobbying
is a good word for it, perhaps, But so it's
going to be doing his own lobbying today and he
(08:57):
gets the meeting at the White House, so we'll see
how that goes.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
All right, Well, I'll be checking in with you again
about this. I'm sure ABC's Karen Travers thank you so much.
Have a great weekend, you two.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Thanks.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Hey, you know you can weigh.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
In anytime on the talkback. It's on the iHeartRadio app.
It's a little microphone up in the upper right hand
corner if you have something to say, as long as
you're nice. I mean, you can say negative things, but
just don't be a jerk. Okay, Hey, we had an
Angels fan call in about the Dodgers.
Speaker 10 (09:28):
Good morning, Amy, Steven Lahabro. Thanks for putting on a
great show every morning. When I wake up before bed,
I am an Angels fan and my two favorite teams
are the Angels and whoever's playing the Dodgers, because you
bring so much joy into our lives just for you
are rooting for the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Oh thanks Stephen Lahabra, I'm rooting for the Dodgers too.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Boy, what a game last night.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Let's get back to some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Former National Security
Advisor John Bolton is a expected to surrender to federal
authorities in Maryland, a day after he was indicted for
allegedly mishandling classified documents. Bolton, who became a strong critic
of President Trump, says the indictment is politically motivated. His
(10:13):
home in Maryland and office in DC were searched by
FBI agents in August. Once Bolton has taken into custody today,
he's expected to make an initial court appearance. The three
major candidates in the race for New York City mayor
have gotten together on the debate stage. Front Runner Democratic
nominees Aroan Mandani took shots at independent former Governor Andrew
(10:35):
Cuomo yesterday when talking about experience.
Speaker 11 (10:38):
The definition of experience is not doing the same thing
again and again and hoping for a different result. That's
actually the definition of Insanikim.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Cuomo noted that Mamdani has no experience. Republican Curtis Sliwa
also went after Cuomo, saying his own party didn't want him,
and he went after the former governor over the many
sexual harassment settlements from his time. I'm in office, mom,
Donnie leading all the polls.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
By a lot.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Be interesting to see what happens in November. Kentucky Republican
Senator Mitch McConnell is recovering he fell in the basement
of the Senate Office building yesterday. Video shows him walking
towards the Senate Chamber when he just falls. An aid
and a Capitol Police officer helped him get back on
his feet as he smiled and waved at the camera.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
They say he's okay.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
In February, McConnell announced that he would not be seeking
another term. He's eighty three and has suffered several falls
in health scares in the last couple of years, including
freezing up on camera a couple of times.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Remember when that happened? Very concerning.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Not everything may be functioning at one hundred percent by
the age of sixty, but there is good news.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
People might actually reach their mental and emotional peak around
age sixty. That's according to new research that finds that
while physical strength declines after the mid twenties, intelligence, personality,
emotional intelligence, and decision making continue improving, reaching a peak
around sixty. The finding were published in the journal Intelligence.
Mark Ronner KFI News.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
What a game, great pitching, great hits last night, great seats,
great tall beverages.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
It was just a great, great evening and of course
a great win.
Speaker 12 (12:14):
Sosaki and the Dodgers A strike away, the right handers
ready on the mound.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
He kicks in fires, strike lay.
Speaker 12 (12:26):
He got him swinging, and that's so in relay three
won the final in a free nothing series lead. In
this best of seven NLCS.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Toodnight, the Dodgers take on the Milwaukee Brewers for Game
four of the National League Championship Series. First pitch goes
out at five thirty eight, and with a win, the
Dodgers could clinch. And guess who's on the mount.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
He's on the mount.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
He's been struggling a little bit in the batting box,
but Dan show, Hey Otani, Yep, he's a starting pitcher tonight.
You can listen to all the Dodger games on AM

flooded some streets at Fourth and Saint Andrew's Place in
Korea Town. What a fun way to start the morning, huh.
A man from Minnesota has been ordered to stand trial
on murder and torture charges in connection with the death
of a model who was found bound, gagged, and stuffed
inside the refrigerator inside her apartment in downtown La. A
(13:40):
judge yesterday rejected a defense motion to dismiss the case.
Melissa Mooney was killed in September of twenty twenty three.
The La County DA is yet to decide whether to
seek the death penalty. The spaceman Ace Freeley has died.
Freely fell late last month and then died yesterday from
those injuries at his home in New Jersey. Freely was
(14:01):
the original guitarist for the legendary rock band Kiss, along
with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter cris Ace Freely
was seventy four.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Let's say good morning now too.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Doctor memet Oz, who is the new head of the
Medicare program under the Trump administration.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Good morning, doctor Oz, Good morning Amy.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
It's a good day to celebrate because it's open enrollment, which,
for folks who may not know, is the month and
a half period where you get to go back into
your Medicare dot gov site or you call one one
hundred Medicare if it's easier for you, and find out
what's changed over the last year, whether you should be
altering what kinds of covers you're getting from this crown
jewel of our country safe in that program.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Okay, so see, I was going to just say we're
celebrating because of the Dodger win, but we can celebrate
Medicare too.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
So let's talk to doctor Oz.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Tell us who needs to do this, Like, if you
already have it, do you need to do it again?
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Or if this is your first year, what do you
need to do?
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Well first year folks, and I am a first year person.
I just turned sixty five. We have a special opportunity
to go in and choose the plans we desire. But
for most Americans, you should between now and December to
seventh go to Medicare dot gov or if you prefer
to talk to somebody. You can cally eight hundred Medicare
and ask simple questions about whether the policy that you
(15:22):
currently have is the best one for you, and you
can save hundreds of dollars. You can do this wisely,
and if you're smart, you'll actually log into the site
to get an account. It's the governments trying to help
you with this program that was designed sixty years ago
to make sure that you're getting the best coverage from
the right doctors and you get the best pricing on
your medications as well. Because the world is changing quickly
(15:43):
and we're changing, you know, new ailments, different medications. You
maybe want different doctors. But even if you want everything
stay the same, you still have differences in pricing that
you should pay attention to. Some of the prescription plans
have actually dropped in price. You might save somebody there.
But certainly we have new functionalities. Now we have a
doctor finder, so it will help you make sure your
(16:04):
doctor's in your plan. We have ways of deciding and
help you figure out what's the best plan for the medications.
You're out to take advantage of these new tools, and
every year we rolled out new stuff taking and you
want to know what those new things are. So again,
Medicare dot gov or what eight hundred medicare Okay, and.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
You said there's different levels of coverage, so like if
you're relatively healthy healthy, you can say, oh I don't
maybe I don't need that.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
So it's not like a one size fits all for everybody.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
The big difference I have to say is between traditional medicare,
the one that sixty years ago was the initial version,
and a newer managed care version, a holistic version that
was created about fifteen years ago that allows people it's
called Medicare advantage. It allows them to get discounted pricing,
but they get some rebates and other tools that might
(16:50):
be financially valuable for them as well. There's not a
better or worse coverage, but it doesn't matter depending on
who you are, because sometimes you'll get a better deal
with one or the other, and you want to know
what those options are. You're going to get inundated with
people are calling you commercials from private companies trying to
get you on board. Some of these companies are actually
a pretty good match for you, but you don't know that.
(17:12):
So before you talk to those folks, you ought to
come to Medicare dot gov, talk to your government who's
actually trying to pull the information into one spot. So
without anyone trying to sell you anything, just inform you
about what your options are. And then when you actually
start talking to these different folks, you'll be a smarter
consumer and imagine us as a clearing house of information.
And again, if you prefer to talk to someone wenty
(17:33):
one hundred, Medicare is trusted information. We're not interested in
selling you anything. We just want to make sure you
know what your options are so you take advantage of
this spectacular program.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Okay, I think that's a really important point, doctor as
because I know that, like you said, you're going to
start seeing all these ads and I remember them from
last year where you're just like, do I have to
go through that company or can I go directly to
medicare dot gov. So you're saying the good starting point
is to go there.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
On the Medicare care you should always do on to
Medicare dot go first. It's the right place to start
because you want information and you can take action with
us as well. But no matter what else you may
want to do, by coming to us, you take advantage
of the newest advances that we have made to try
to customize advice for you. So yeah, if you make
an account for yourself, we can share with you based
(18:20):
on what we know about what medications you're on, and
what issues you're struggling with in your health, what ideas
you might want to pay attention to. In some cases,
you may want to take a Medicare advantage plan, which
again is like a managed care version of Medicare because
of the additional things they can give you. In other instances,
because you travel a lot, because of the things you're
struggling with, you may be better off with traditional Medicare.
So get all your options out there. Get smart. And
(18:42):
this is I think core to preventing illness because you
know it's not just about eating right, exercise. Those are
fundamentally important. But if you do have an illness, which
you'll luck and babbits and the other reasons for accidents
may cause you to have issues that you wouldn't have
predicted that, you want to make sure that you have
all the tools in right there in front of you.
(19:03):
And we work hard in this country to provide a
social station net for our seniors. But if you don't
take advantage of it. If you don't get smart about
how to to take prophylactic steps to make sure you're covered,
then you know it's a problem when you do get sick.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Okay, and it's open through December seventh, but you're saying,
don't wait till December seventh to get this going, like
get this ball rolling.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Now you have it.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
You got to make a final decision by December seventh.
And this is a pretty important choice. Who's going to
be your insurance coverage group and which are these options
are best for you? And it does make a financial
difference for folks who are listening. If you care about
a couple hundred dollars, and most of us do, then
there is no defensible reason not to go to Medicare
dot gov now and find out what your options are.
Then you can sort of let it, you know, percolate
(19:46):
your mindful a little while before you make your final
decision on December seventh, Okay, and.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Then doctor ols that's a great reminder. And of course
it's medicare dot gover you can call one eight hundred medicare.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
I saw you with the President yesterday.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
He seems to like to his team around him are
you having fun in your new position.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
I mean, this is the best job I've ever had,
and I've had some great jobs. I'm an art surgeon
and I hosted the TV show, as you know. But
I love working for the President because he is not
going to be held back and he will actually call
you frequently and to remind you of things that you're
supposed to be doing, and he'll open up pathway. Yes,
the most important thing he does for us in the
government is he breaks the silos down. Yesterday's announcement brought
(20:26):
Department of Labor, Department Commerce, Helping Human Services, different agencies
together in order to create a new fertility benefit for
the American people. And as everyone probably appreciates, our fertility
numbers are down, a lot of Americans one in free
families want to have more babies, so we want to
make that easier by more affordable. So we negotiated most
favorite dation pricing. We've dropped the price of the most
(20:47):
common fertility drugs that are thousands of dollars per cycle
in half. And this is again a win for everybody.
And I don't care what party you're in in America,
we need to support families that want to have more baby.
This is a great way of doing it.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Okay, Doctor memot Oz, thank you so much for your
time and the information, and I hope you keep having fun.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
God bless you. Good luck to your Dodgers. My son
and loves a big Dodgers fan. I don't know why,
but right to support him.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
I love it, Doctor Oz, thanks so much, Take care
say there by life doesn't know why well, because they're
going back to the World Series for good to seek.
Speaker 10 (21:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
There is a big bunch of protests coming up this weekend.
Speaker 6 (21:32):
No King's Protest scheduled for this weekend across the nation
is expected to bring out millions of people to protest
against the Trump administration.
Speaker 13 (21:39):
And I think increasingly people are waking up to the
rule of law in this country increasingly appearing to be
the rule of Dawn.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Newsom says, it's important to make your voice heard.
Speaker 13 (21:49):
I hope people put a stake in the ground. Take
the opportunity and time to participate this weekend, but again,
do so peacefully.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
During the protest, a live fire event will be happening
again Penalton, near San Diego to celebrate the Marines. Jason
Campedonia KFI.
Speaker 1 (22:05):

California will sell insulin directly to consumers starting in January.
Governor Newsom says the cal RX program will offer the
drug at discounted rates as opposed to the high prices
from drug companies.
Speaker 13 (22:24):
And they have been gouging you for years and years
and years. They're also gouging Americans by five to ten
times what our European counterparts are currently paying.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Newsom says insulin will be offered at eleven dollars per pen.
Cal RX always already offered discounted sales of naloxone, that's
the drug overdose reversal medication. Apple and Peacock are bundling

be made available to standalone subscribers of each service at
no additional cost. The bundle option comes as the streaming

Deborah mark Kafine News.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
When we come back, something to help you get ahead
of the game when it comes to Christmas shopping, because
Christmas is, you know, like two months in less than
two weeks away. It's an opportunity for you to shop
local and more importantly, support the artists and artisans who've
been affected by the Eton fire. This is something I'm
so I'm going tomorrow, I'm so excited, so I wanted
to share it with you.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Do fences make good neighbors?
Speaker 1 (23:43):
The LA Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners has voted
unanimously to request plans for a two point three million
dollar iron fence to be built around LA's MacArthur Park.
The board says it would make the area safer in
the face of homelessness and drug usage in the area.
Some residents say that money could be better spent supporting
the homeless and beautifying the park. Leaders of Service Employees
(24:06):
International Union Local seven twenty one, representing local public service workers,
are urging residents to participate in No King's Day protests.
More than two hundred demonstrations against the Trump administration are
planned all over California tomorrow, including ten of them here
in Los Angeles. A helicopter has lifted a woman to
(24:27):
safety after her car careened off the road and plummeted
two hundred feet down in the West Hollywood Hills. The
crash off Mulholland Drive happened late yesterday morning. The car
landed west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The woman had to
be hoisted up in a rescue basket and was taken
to the hospital at six oh five. Its handle on
(24:47):
the news, John Bolton's been indicted and is in accusing
the Trump administration of weaponizing the Department of Justice. Yesterday,
we've talked about We went out and about and I
went to the La Haunted Hay Ride for my BOO preview,
and then we were talking about seventeenth floor, which is
supposed to be like a next level haunted house, and
(25:12):
somebody wanted to weigh in on that on the talkback.
Speaker 15 (25:15):
Hi, Amy, this is Phil from Laguna Beach. I haven't
been to the seventeenth door, but I understand it is
a very very intense haunted house thing. They have a
list of all the stuff that they do on their website,
along with mention of a safe word that you can
use to get out of any room or chamber that
(25:35):
you feel uncomfortable in, so you may want to call
him and talk to him before you go there. Just
my two cents, have a great day.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
We actually are in talks because I do want to
kind of go check it out.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
And I said seventeenth floor. I meant seventeenth door.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
But I'm scared to death of this one, and especially
after producer Ann was telling.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
Us about some of the things that they do. So
if I do go, I'll let you know.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Not very good at haunted houses, but and this one
sounds like it's totally next level. Now if big scares
aren't your thing.
Speaker 11 (26:07):
Hey, good morning, Amy. I also wanted to recommend something
a little bit different. It's called Carved at Disconso Gardens,
which is lovely and wonderful and really cool and atmospheric.
So I do recommend that for a little less scary
and just a lot of cool. Thanks.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
I've actually been to carved before, a Disconsa Garden. We're
talking to them too, to say if we can go visit.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
We hadn't been for a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
It's a great thing, much more family friendly, no scares.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
It's just like these cool displays.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
You actually carved pumpkins or no, you just go.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
They have all these different displays around the gardens, and
so you walk around the gardens and then of course
they've got treats and all kinds of stuff, and some
very cool pumpkins are already carved. It's a really really
cool way to spend an evening and again, much more
family friendly. Maybe dates friendly too. Okay, here's something that's
going on this weekend. It's actually happening tomorrow from eleven
(27:00):
to five. It's the first ever Alta Arts and Crafts Fair.
It's happening at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall on
Woodbury Road in Altadena. And I love this because I'm
always looking for like harvest festivals, arts fairs, crafts fars,
like little unique, niche, niche shopping experiences, and this one
(27:21):
caught my eye because it's like local artisans, a lot
of them directly affected by the Altadena fires. And I
just love the idea of supporting small businesses. And if
you would like to do that too, there's going to
be indoor booths and outdoor booths. There's painting and sculpture
and photography, ceramics, woodworking, textiles and more. In addition to
(27:45):
the artists, local vendors small businesses are being joined outdoors
and so it's gonna be an indoor, outdoor event.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
The weather's going to be fabulous.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
And again, if you can do anything to support victims
of the Altadena fire, who are you know, still working
to get back on their feet, still working to get
permits to be able to rebuild, and they want to
rebuild their community. And if this helps them do it,
by golly, I'm behind it. So again, it's the Alta
Arts and Crafts Fair. You can google it, but it's
happening tomorrow eleven to five at the Fraternal Order of
(28:19):
Eagles Hall seven point nine on East Woodbury Road. Okay,
I think it's time to get in your business, shall we?
And let's share. Yes, and let's check in with Denise.
Good morning, Denise, It's time to get in your business
with Bloomberg's Denise Pellegrini.
Speaker 16 (28:37):
Yeah, good morning, Amy. We've got some scary things going
on on Wall Street this weekend. Jamie Diamond, CEO of
JP Morgan Chase talking about the bankrupt auto under tricolor,
saying there is never just one cocker road. Try well,
now the critters are practically crawling across the counter. Regional
bank stocks plunging yesterday, led by declines at banks, including
(28:58):
one unit of A California. They say they're victims of
fraud on loans to funds that invest in distress commercial mortgages.
So that has investors pretty worried. But stock futures are
mixed right now. Some are worried though there could be
some more bad loans out there. I hate when they
have bad loans. Okay, bitcoin owner is not very happy today.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
How come?
Speaker 16 (29:18):
Yeah, bitcoin was supposed to be digital gold, right, something
that would sort of be the teflon currency, as it were,
that you could invest in when other currencies and other
things were going to pot. Well, now bitcoin and other
crypto absolutely plunging. Crypto following again today the world's are
just crypto exchange meantime, cited by analysts as a key
(29:39):
driver of all these liquidations. They're trying to make good
with customers, offering them millions of dollars in compensation following
that crash in crypto we had earlier this week at Binance,
But a lot of people kind of losing confidence. And
it's interesting because the drop we've seen in bitcoin, I
mean it was what one hundred and twenty thing thousand
(30:00):
dollars Now it's like at one hundred and five thousand dollars.
It's reminding a lot of people of what happened to
me back in twenty twenty three, remember when Silicon Valley
bank crisis hit and bitcoin plunged. Then we're seeing that
same thing again this week. Gold, though, is hitting new
record highs this week.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
I know, I see Gold's up at more than forty
three hundred dollars right now. Crazy, Okay, this.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Could be good for business for Mac.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
They've got a new touch screen coming out, Yes they do,
I mean Apple.
Speaker 16 (30:29):
It's really interesting. They resisted the idea of a touch
screen MAAC for so long. Steve Jobs was like, no
way are we doing that. But even his successor, Tim
Cook once said combining a tablet and a laptop would
be kind of like trying to meld a toaster and
a fridge together. But times have changed, apparently, sources tell Bloomberg.
Finally Apple preparing to launch a touch screen version of
(30:53):
its Mac computer. The revamped MacBook Pro with a touch
display set for late next year or the year after.
The Rest of the computer industry has already embraced touch
screen laptops like more than a decade ago. Apple, though
they're always late to the party, but then when they
roll something out, it's usually among the best, So we'll
see what they come up with.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
I always get a kick out when I go to
a regular computer now, like a not a laptop, and
I'm playing and I'm hitting the screen expecting something to happen, like,
oh wait, I don't have a touch screen.
Speaker 16 (31:24):
If I do the same thing too, it some of
my colleagues have fingerprints all.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Over Yes, yep, I'm guilty of that too.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Getting in your business with Bloomberg's Denise PELAGRENI as we
do every morning at five forty, have a great weekend
in Ease, Thanks you too, Amy. Federal prosecutors have charged
a former executive at an affordable housing company with mail fraud.
Acting US Attorney Bill of Sals's the man from Beverly
Hills used money received through state grants for homeless housing
to buy millions of dollars worth of luxury goods. Another
(31:52):
guy from Brentwood is accused of using public money to
fund his own real estate investments instead of using it
to build houses for the home lists. The La County
Department of Public Health has confirmed a second case of
a more severe strain of EMPOCHS in the county. This patient,
along with another confirmed case announced this week, has no
known history of any travel to areas where the virus
(32:14):
is usually found. USC has refused to sign on to
the Trump administration's call to agree to conservative priorities on
campus in exchange for being put on a most favored
list to get federal funding. Governor Newsom has vowed to
cut off state funding to any university university that agrees
to the Trump administration's terms.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
That sounds a bit like a little catch twenty two,
doesn't it.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
John Bolton has arrived at federal court. He was just
indicted by the Department of Justice. Let's say good morning
now to ABC's Mike Debusky. Mike, we've got spooky season.
There are haunted houses all over LA and there is
some haunting things happening in movie theaters.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 8 (32:59):
The big new released this weekend and what is expected
to top the box office is The Black Phone two.
This is a sequel to twenty twenty one's The Black Phone,
which starred Ethan Hawk. He returns as the sort of
titular serial killer in this new horror movie from Blumhouse.
Blumhouse is a really interesting studio. They really just focus
(33:21):
on horror movies, and their playbook is to go broad
and cheap right, fund a lot of movies, but fund
them at small to mid level budgets and then basically
hope for a hit or at least a modest profit
out of all of that. And they have ridden that
strategy to some real success. This is the studio that
produced get Out, They produced the new Halloween movies, Paranormal Activity,
(33:44):
The Purge, the sort of big name, relatively successful horror
movie franchises. However, over the last year or so they've
been disappointing at the box office. Back in January, they
had wolf Man, which is not a movie that a
ton of people remember, despite the fact that came out
back in January. The Woman in the Yard, Drop, and
Megan two point zero all Blumhouse pictures, but all sort
(34:07):
of fell short of analyst expectations. Not to say that
they lost money necessarily, but certainly not the big, you know,
loud hit that they had been hoping for. Maybe they're
hoping to capitalize on some of the success of the
original Black Phone movie with this new sequel. Early reviews
seem to be very positive, talking about, you know, influence
of influences from some of the horror greats like the
(34:29):
Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Dreams play a big role
in this film, as do the works of Stephen King.
So something to keep an eye on this weekend if
you're looking for some scares.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Okay, And what's it supposed to be about aside from
just scaring you to death?
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (34:43):
So, Ethan Hawk plays a serial killer called the Grabber
at the end of the first movie spoiler alert, you know,
cover your ears if you haven't seen the first movie,
But he is killed by the main character. And then
in this film, the sole survivor of the events of
the first film, you know, is sort of reeling from
the trauma of that incident, and his younger sister starts
(35:05):
to see the Grabber in her dreams, and she starts
to have these sort of prophetic visions of actual murders
that are happening in their town.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
And sounds like a time.
Speaker 8 (35:14):
Yeah, I mean, look, if you're into the horror movie
thing as I am, this does sound great. I mean
it is the time of year for that. And yeah,
I mean, you know, different strokes for different folks. Certainly
it's not for everyone. Certainly not for kids, I would say,
but that is the nature of the beast, right, A
lot of people in the same way that comedy is
very specific.
Speaker 6 (35:34):
To you, Scarce are very specific to you.
Speaker 8 (35:36):
And if it works for you, it works for If
it doesn't, it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
So if Julia Roberts works for you, or maybe Andrew Garfield,
they've got a new movie.
Speaker 8 (35:45):
I think both of those guys work for me. I
love Julia Roberts moment. But yeah, so they are in
a new movie from Luca Guadanino called After the Hunt.
This movie is going wide this weekend, though, Amy, you
and I, because we live in New York and Los Angelus,
we actually got this a week early. This is a
new movie that really tackles a pretty controversial topic, that
(36:06):
is to say, the me too movement on college campuses.
Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield play professors on an IVY
League campus who are both up for the same tenured
position when one of their students, played by Io at Berri,
who we might know from The Bear, comes forward and
accuses Andrew Garfield of sexual assault. So that is the
(36:29):
premise of the film. Julia Roberts has to weigh her
sympathy for the student's case with her friendship with Andrew Garfield,
perhaps her relationship with Andrew Garfield, which is really twisty
and unfolds in a very interesting way over the course
of the film. Early reviews of this have really divided opinion.
People either love it or they hate it. And this
(36:51):
comes from Luca Guadanino, who has a very distinct visual style.
He is the guy who last year directed Challengers, the
sort of sexy tennis movie that'sendeo in, and then before
that he also directed Call Me by Your Name, which
starred Timothy Shallamay, and before that he directed A Bigger Splash,
which is very good and underseen movie in the United States,
I would say, so he has a pretty long track
(37:12):
record of, you know, these really distinct, interesting movies that
get people talking, and this is is no surprise. I
was able to see it a little bit early, and
I have to say I walked away liking it.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
I think you were the love I was.
Speaker 8 (37:26):
I think it's definitely not like you know, for the kids,
and it's definitely not a movie that leaves you with
any easy answers. But I think that's kind of the point.
I think it tackles a pretty nuanced topic and gets
you to talk about it. And and if you had
listened to some of the press tour, that is what
Julia Roberts and the rest of the cast and crew
have been saying. They say, we want to start conversations,
not necessarily provide, you know, a comfortable answer for anyone.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
All Right, ABC's Mike Debuski, thanks for the info, of course,
take care.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
I have a good weekend. I think that I love
Julia Roberts.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
I love iowe ed a biery if I said that, right,
and Andrew Garfield. But I think I'm going to wait
for the stream on that one.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
It sounds okay, But like you said, because it's.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
A love hate thing, I'm thinking it's probably gonna make
me mad, and.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
So I thought, hey, you can turn it at home,
you can turn it off.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Exactly there you right, Okay, let's get back to some
of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four
hour news from President Trump says he will meet again
with Russia's President Putin in about two weeks to talk
about ending the war in Ukraine. Trump said he had
a very productive phone call with Putin yesterday and plans
to go into more detail about it today when he
meets with Ukrainian President Zelenski at the White House. They
(38:37):
may also discuss the possibility of Ukraine getting Tomahawk missiles
from the US as the war with Russia continues. Thousands
of people expected to hit the streets this weekend for
the second No King's protest. Demonstrations are planned in hundreds
of cities. Organizers have accused President Trump of authoritarian power grabs.
The flagship protest is set for Washington, d C. Outside
(38:59):
the US Capitol. House Speaker Mike Johnson has described it
as a hate America gathering. The Dodgers are just one
game closer to the World Series. They beat the Brewers
three to one last night to take on or to
take their third win in the seven game National League
Championship Series. Show Hey Otani let it all off with
a triple, then Mookie Beth stepped up to the plate.
Speaker 12 (39:21):
That's on his way to second.
Speaker 10 (39:22):
He is in there with it on the double run
the Nothing Dodgers right out of the gates.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Game four gets underway of five thirty eight. Again it's
at Dodger Stadium. And if you're not going, you can
listen to all the Dodgers games on our sister station,
k LAC AM five seventy. This is KFI and KOST
HD two Los Angeles, Orange County Southland Weather from KFI
Live from the KFI twenty four hour newsroom for producer
