Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call
with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
KFI had KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
And here we are again, five o'clock. Straight up. This
is your wake up call for Wednesday, August sixth. I'm
Amy King. We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. It's
probably brand new. It's probably too soon to tell, but
I hope you're having a good morning so far. Kono

(00:47):
for technical director. Kono had a big day yesterday. His
baby went off to was it kindergarten?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (00:58):
It was orientation yesterday, orientage something called t K which
I'm new to. What's TK second, it's transitional kindergarten? What
does that even mean? It's more play based than it's
more for like the social aspect of getting them into
understanding rules.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
It sounds okay, So leaving her behind probably wasn't quite
as emotional as you thought it would be, or was more.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Emotions you no, come on, no, no, but it does
bum me out that I don't get to hang out
with her all the time, which I never thought I
would be that guy, but I'm I'm that guy. Apparently
fatherhood changes you, and I thought that was like not
a stereotype. Maybe I don't know, but yeah, it uh,

(01:50):
it's a bummer. She's poor, sucks, It's adorable. You'll get
through it.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Did she have fun?

Speaker 5 (01:59):
She's she was a little yeah, but her teacher seems
really cool, so yeah, I just told her like, it's
a big playground everything here.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
You just get to play all day. And then it
kind of like warmed her up. Isn't that a cool ITEA?
Didn't that be fun? All right? Well, I don't get
to call you cry baby Cono. Then no, that was
from elementary school, so don't do that. Oh okay, all right,
here's what's the head on your wake up call. This
Wednesday morning, the fire burning in Santa Barbara and San

(02:27):
Louis Obispo has grown to almost eighty four thousand acres
nine percent surrounded. The Goldfire north of Big Bear Lake
has burned through just over one thousand acres. HiT's five
percent surrounded, and the fire between Anza and Pinion Pines
is fifteen percent surrounded. It's torn through almost seventeen hundred acres.
It's been a bit shaky and the IE. A series

(02:48):
of quakes has rumbled through the region, the first a
three point six near rialto Actually it was downgraded to
a three point five shortly before five yesterday afternoon the
US Geological Services. A three point five shook Ontario at
one this morning, and then a three point seven hit
near Lytle Creek at two AMM. What's all this rumbling?

(03:09):
President Trump has created a task force to oversee the
twenty twenty eight Summer Olympic Games in LA. He said
it's going to focus on security, transportation, and visa processing
to make sure the LA Games go off without a hitch.
Trump says the world will see what the US does
best in twenty twenty eight, adding that Los Angeles is
a great venue. President Trump and Ukraine's President Zelenski had

(03:32):
been what or have done what's been described as a
productive call abcas and as de la Kate is going
to join us in just a couple of minutes to
see if any progress has been made. As a deadline
to a ceasefire quickly approaches, We're talking tech with Rich DeMuro.
Football season's right around the corner, and Verizon's got a
new NFL Sunday ticket deal. He's going to tell us

(03:52):
about that. And also, if you're tired of the high
fees tied to streaming, there's a new one and it's cheap,
and the house wants to see what's in those Jeffrey
Epstein files ABC. Stephen Portnoy's going to join us about
five point fifty to tell us who's asking for what
and weather they're going to get it. Also, at the
bottom of the hour, Amy's on it. I finally got
into a series that takes us back in time and

(04:14):
starts two of my very favorites. We'll tell you about that.
Let's get started with some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Authority say the
heat wave coming to southern California could increase the risk
of wildfires and intensify the fires already burning. The National
Weather Services there will be elevated fire weather conditions from
today through Friday, which is why it has issued heat

(04:35):
advisories and warnings. Much of southern California is already under
a wildfire smoke advisory because of the fires in the
IE and the one burning in Santa Barbara and San
Luis Obispo. Counties. Apartments in La County will have to
be kept at eighty two degrees or lower by law.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the order, which goes
into effect on January first, twenty twenty seven, in the
unincorporated parts of the county. Oz Catan with The county
Health Department says the move is to protect vulnerable residents
during heat waves and not just in the daytime.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Additionally, nighttime heat matters. Deaths from all causes may be
up to ten percent higher on hot nights compared to
nights without elevated temperatures.

Speaker 6 (05:14):
Enforcement of the measure will be complaint based, and landlords,
many of who oppose the legislation, would have to bring
the rental units into compliance or face fines. Michael Monks
KFI News.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
News brought to you by American Vision Windows Dreamers in
California are losing their health insurance at the end of
the month.

Speaker 7 (05:29):
Roughly twenty three hundred people with coverage through Covered California
will be affected. This follows the reversal of a Biden
era policy that allowed DOCA recipients to access health insurance.
It comes after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
redefined the term lawfully present in its marketplace Integrity rule,
explicitly excluding DOCA recipients. The affected policyholders are being notified

(05:49):
by Covered California and are receiving health to access alternatives
such as Medical Mark Ronner, KFI News.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Time to Say good Morning to ABC's and as de
la cetera. And as President Trump frustrated with Russia's President Putin.
So does that mean the US and Ukraine are getting
a little closer?

Speaker 8 (06:07):
Hey, good morning, Yeah, it certainly seems like it. So
we had the Ukrainian President's Olenski speaking with President Trump yesterday,
as Alenski said, the two had a productive conversation that
they coordinated their position that the key focus was ending
the war in Ukraine, of course, but they also discussed
sanctions on Russia and the finalization of a US Ukraine
drone deal. And like you say, this does appear to

(06:30):
come as Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with Russian President
Putin and as a seasfire deadline loom. So remember President
Trump has given Putin until August eighth, until Friday to
make peace in Ukraine, saying that if the Russian president
doesn't agree, to a ceasefire. By then the US will
impose news sanctions on Russia. That would be the first
time the US imposed sanctions on Russia since President Trump

(06:51):
returned to office. And I will say big news out
of today as well. We know that White House Envoys
Steve whitcov is in Moscow as we speak. He actually
just met with Putin. According to the Kremlin. We're still
waiting for a readout of what actually happened during those talks.
Unclear if you know, witcough being there means the Russian
are making a final push for diplomacy to make that

(07:13):
deadline or whether this is just posturing on behalf of
the Russians.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Okay, and leading up to the talks Inez, Russia didn't
appear to be backing down. They're still talking tough, so
or what kind of moves have they been making?

Speaker 8 (07:27):
Yeah, so we know, you know, there's been a lot
of tit for tat And you mentioned the kind of
Trump's relationship with Putin off the top there, and I
think it's been really interesting to see how that relationship
has evolved over the last few months. So, you know,
initially President Trump appeared to be willing to engage with
the Russians, and he was kind of harder on the Ukrainians.
We remember that big dramatic meeting between President Trump and

(07:49):
President Zelenski in the Oval Office, and in the last
few weeks that appears to have flipped. So it appears
that Trump is now kind of closer and more supportive
of Vilenski and the Ukrainians, and he has grown increasingly
frustrated with the Russians, and we are seeing that kind
of materialized in kind of military moves. So you had
President Trump appearing or ordering the deployment of two nuclear submarines,

(08:12):
and then the Russians appearing to respond to that by
lifting what they called a unilateral moratorium on deploying intermediate
range missiles. The Russians say that was a forced response
to move by the US and its allies. So yeah,
there's attention certainly escalating there. Every move by one side
met by a move from the other side, and it's

(08:34):
just unclear whether President Trump will be able to strike
a deal at this point.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Okay, and as Dela Katara, thanks so much for the information.
We appreciate it. Thank you. All right, let's get back
to some of the stories coming out of the KFI
twenty four hour newsroom. A Republican state lawmaker from Orange
County says he supports a bill in Washington, d c.
To ban redistricting before the twenty thirty census. Senator Tony
Strickland says California's method of drawing the congressional districts is

(09:01):
already solid and doesn't need to be changed, and.

Speaker 9 (09:04):
In fact, here in California, the citizens Redistricting Commission is
really the gold standard for what the national model should be,
to have a citizen led commission instead of legislators drawn
the district line.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
He says a proposal by Republican Congressman Kevin Kylie of
Northern California to stop the districting fight across the country
is a wise move. Texas is trying to draw new
maps more favorable to Republicans, while the governors of California
and New York have threatened to do the same for Democrats.
The Los Angeles Innocence Project is making a new push

(09:38):
to get convicted killer Scott Peterson freed from prison. ABC's
Alex Stone says Peterson was convicted nearly twenty years ago
of killing his wife and their unborn child.

Speaker 10 (09:49):
The group filed with the California Courts of Appeal, claiming
the jury so many years ago relied on false evidence
and that there is new scientific evidence a court should consider.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
The La Innocence p project filed this week with the
San Mateo County Superior Court. The Department of Health and
Human Services is canceling nearly two dozen vaccine development projects
targeting viruses like COVID nineteen and the flu el Secretary
Robert F. Kennedy Junior, announced yesterday that he's halting five
hundred million dollars in funding for MNRNA based vaccines, saying

(10:23):
the funding would be better spent elsewhere. The FBI has
released its annual report on crime. ABC's Michelle Fransen says
it shows a decline in violent crime across the US.

Speaker 11 (10:34):
The FBI shows in twenty twenty three, there were three
hundred and seventy nine point five violent crimes per one
hundred thousand residents. In twenty twenty four, that number of
violent crimes fell to three hundred and fifty nine point one.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
She says nineteen thousand law enforcement agencies participated in the
FBI's annual report. That's about five hundred more police departments
than in twenty twenty three. Millions of people from the
Midwest to the northeaster briefing in smoky air because of
wildfires in Canada. People in the region are being told
to limit outdoor activities. Wisconsin and Michigan are getting the

(11:09):
worst of it, while New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and
others are under some sort of air quality alert. Firefighters
in western Canada say a bird is believed to have
started a small fire there last week. They say it
looks like an osprey caught a large fish but got
tired in the heat and dropped the fish onto some
power lines. Embers apparently started the fire on dry grass below.

(11:32):
The fire burned just about an acre, so not one
of the big ones that we've been dealing with. A
YouTuber has used his social media status for good.

Speaker 12 (11:42):
Ryan Trahan and his wife Haley fam raised eleven and
a half million dollars for Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
The couple stayed at fifty airbnbs in fifty states in
fifty days. Forty two thousand people donated to the cause,
including six figure donations from large companies like Shopify, Kia,
and Dollar Shave. Clad, a fifty thousand donation triggered the
wheel of doom in the car, which included penalties like

(12:04):
not using highways or cell phones to get to the
next Airbnb. The couple said the best Airbnb they visited
was the Treetopia Treehouse in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Michael Krozer
KFI News, Ooh, that.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Sounds kind of cool, staying in a tree treehouse and
raising all that money for Saint Juds. Love it, love it,
love it. Fans of Playboy Magazine could soon own a
piece of history.

Speaker 13 (12:26):
A bunch of original art from the pages of Playboy
Magazine and other artifacts associated with the iconic publication will
be auctioned off in Los Angeles later this month. Fine
Art from the Playboy Archives Part two follows up on
the first such action from last December, and will take
place August twenty sixth at Julian Studios in LA and
online at Juliansauctions dot com. Julian says this next chapter

(12:49):
unveils some of the most coveted and unseen pieces from
the golden era of Playboy. The auction includes more than
three hundred items. Depor Mark Koffi News.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
The Boys in Blue Are Back Otzi swims.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
It's a drive right center field. That's pop back, that
is gone.

Speaker 9 (13:05):
He's done it again.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Two home runs on the night for Monthly and the
Dodgers wait. At four to two.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Max Mounsey and Boy's got the home runs, struped Back
and taoscar Hernandez each erupted for two homers and four RBIs.
The Dodgers rolled onto a twelve to six win over
the Saint Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers will take on the
Cardinals again tonight at Dodger Stadium. Actually it's not tonight,
it's today. I love a day game. First pitch goes

(13:34):
out at one o'clock and it's Otani World Series Ring Day.
You can listen all the Dodger games on AM five
to seventy LA Sports Live from the Galpin Motors Broadcast booth,
and stream all day Dodgers games in HD on the
iHeartRadio app Keyword AM five seventy LA Sports. LA Mayor
Bass and Energy officials are celebrating the completion of Big

(13:55):
Old Solar and Battery storage product project, the one and
an half million dollars solar panel project. Actually it's not
a million dollars, it's just a million and a half
solar panels in the Mojave Desert produces seven hundred and
fifty eight megawatts of energy. It stores more than three
hundred thousand megawats for use during peak hours and can

(14:15):
provide seven percent of the city's energy needs. An LA
County Sheriff's detective who was killed when a grenade exploded
at a sheriff's training facility has been eulogized as a
hard worker who loved his wife and six children, and
also the Yankees. His funeral was held in Your Belinda yesterday.
Funerals for the other two deputies killed in the explosion

(14:36):
on July eighteenth will be held tomorrow and next Tuesday.
A new study is revealed the most stressful intersections in
the world, and one of them is right here in La.
The study was done by Scrap Car Comparison, looked at
how much confusion, fear, anxiety, and confidence people felt looking
into intersections. The interchange connecting the one ten and the

(14:56):
one oh five freeways ranks as the second most stre
full intersection in the whole world, at six o five.
It's handle in the news. The House wants to sit
down with Bill and Hillary to talk about Jeffrey Epstein.
See if they get it. Stephen Portnoy's gonna tell us
about that as well, and Bill, of course we'll be
talking about that on Handle on the News. Right now,

(15:17):
let's say good morning to the host of Rich on
Tech on KFI KTLA's tech guy, Rich Demiro.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Morning, Rich, Hey, good morning for you.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Amy football season right around the corner. And if you're
a big fan and you want to watch a lot
of games, Verizon may have a deal for you.

Speaker 14 (15:34):
Yeah, this is what fans have been wondering about. What
are the promos available for NFL Sunday Ticket And Verizon
just announced to their promo.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
So if you are a new customer.

Speaker 14 (15:45):
Or are you even at a new line, you can
get NFL Sunday Ticket for free. That's a four hundred
and eighty dollars value. I know, a lot of money
to watch football. But if you are an existing Verizon customer,
you also save And this is the best deal I've
found out out there. Two hundred dollars on Sunday Ticket.
So I was able to confirm, logged into my account

(16:05):
and sure enough, Yeah, you can subscribe for way less
than it would cost you. If you purchase this anywhere else.
The other option out there that I'm seeing a lot
of people look into is best Buy has a deal
with Sunday Ticket, but you have to be a member
of their My best Buy plan or something. It's like
they're you pay monthly. I think you pay like fifty
dollars a year for this. So basically, if you're a

(16:27):
member of my best Buy, you can get Sunday Ticket
for two hundred and fifty eight dollars. So if you're
getting Sunday Ticket, bottom line, search for deals because they
are out there.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Because otherwise it's four hundred and eighty bucks. Yikes.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (16:42):
And that, by the way, that that's only you're out
of town games. That does not include if you have
a streaming service like a you know, Hulu or a
direct TV stream or any of those. You know, you
have to have that as well if you want all
the games. Obviously, you can get some of the local
games via antenna, but nowadays the games are everywhere because
they're all over these streaming serve vis like Amazon, Prime, Peacock.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
I mean, it's really tough.

Speaker 14 (17:04):
To get every game that you want to watch at
this point without paying a lot of money.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
And I think that that that's not going to go
away because we just heard that ESPN just about the
NFL network, and I think that that's going to move
more NFL games over to the stream and so get
used to paying for it.

Speaker 14 (17:20):
Yeah, it'd be nice if they had one subscription for everything,
kind of like what Apple did with MLS. That would
be really nice. But there's too much money in football
right now for that to happen.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Okay, we were talking about streaming services, and we've talked
several times about how you know when you have them
all you're paying probably more than you were with your
cable bill. But Roku has a new budget streaming service.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
And I love the name. It's called Howdy. I mean,
it's just they came up with such a great.

Speaker 14 (17:48):
Name for this. It just it just sounds so friendly.
And the price is friendly right now. Three dollars a month.
I say right now, because if we are going by history,
we know that streaming services start out really cheap and
they just continue to creep up in price as time
goes on. But this is from Roku. This a brand
new ad free streaming service. Three dollars a month meant

(18:08):
for all the Roku users out there who love streaming
stuff for free, because Roku already offers a ton of
free content on the Roku channel. But Roku just bought
another service called Friendly TV, and now they are starting
this other ad streaming or free ad service, ad free
service called howdy So ten thousand hours of TV shows
and movies, popular titles like Mad Max, The blind Side, Weeds,

(18:32):
and Kids in the Hall. And that's just for people
that want to watch on their Roku but not be
bombarded with ads.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
Wouldn't that be nice because I'm getting tired of the
ads too. Unless you want to pay more, you can
go ad free. It's kind of it's it's frustrating rich.

Speaker 14 (18:47):
Yeah, oh, I know, but I you know, the ads
actually don't bother me. I have them on Peacock and
you know what, I like the little countdown It says, Okay,
you got one hundred and eighty seconds. I'm like, all right, cool,
I'll look at my phone for one hundred and eighty seconds.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Yeah. Yeah, most of them aren't too bad, I agree,
except like when I was watching specifically The Handmaid's Tale
on Hulu this season, it was just ads and ads
and ads, like just bombarded with it, but most of
them aren't too bad. Okay.

Speaker 14 (19:11):
I got into one yesterday. They had an ad for
like pixel phones. Yeah, and it was really good and
I was like, oh, I can't wait for the next one.
Because I kept doing them throughout the show. I was like, Okay,
those are really good. This was on YouTube, I think,
but anyway, it was great. I was like, Okay, I'm
into these anyway, that's so too funny.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Okay, so storytime is never going to be the same again,
because now AI is getting in the game.

Speaker 14 (19:32):
Yes, Gemini, this is Google's AI can now create personalized
story books. Turn your ideas into an illustrated children's book.
It can even be narrated. Lets you create a custom
ten page storybook and seconds just describe your idea, and
Gemini will write the entire story, complete with illustrations, and
read it aloud. You don't even have to be a
parent anymore. You don't even have to buy books for

(19:54):
your kids or read them to your kids. Now you
can just have AI do it. Just watch out for
you know the AI whou. I look at one article
where the picture had like a fish with a human
hand coming out of it, so you know, you never
know what a guy's gonna do.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Okay, all right? Can you print them or are they
just they're on your computer?

Speaker 14 (20:16):
I believe it's just on your computer at this point,
but you might be able to download them.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
I haven't.

Speaker 14 (20:20):
I haven't tried making my own. I'll do that later today.
But you can choose from all the styles, comic book,
claymation cool.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
All right. Yeah, you don't need to be creative anymore
because a I can do it for you. Kfi's tech
guy Rich Demiro. You can hear them live on rich
on Tech every Saturday from eleven to two. You can
watch him on KTLA as I often do, follow him
on Instagram at rich on Tech, and also you can
find out more about everything that he talks about on

(20:47):
his website, rich on Tech dot tv.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Thank you, Rich, Thank you Amy.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Okay, talk to you soon.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
All right.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Let's get back to some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. About ninety two
hundred LAEDWP customers in Granada Hills and Porta Ranch are
expected to have some trouble with the tap this morning.
The DWP says it's doing emergency repairs at a water
pump station, which could cause a loss of water pressure.
The DWP is setting up water distribution sites at Hollyburnson

(21:17):
Memorial Park in Northridge, O Melvany Park in Granada Hills,
and at Tampa Avenue and Ceston Boulevard on the border
of Northridge and Porter Ranch. A thirty one year old
man from Pacoima has been arrested for allegedly running down
and killing a seventy six year old woman and her dog,
then leaving the scene. The fatal crash happened Monday night

(21:37):
as the woman and dog cross the street near Osbourne
and had an avenue. A woman's been rescued after getting
stuck in a chimney in San Fernando. Jose Rivera says
he was watching the woman at the City of San
Fernando Recreation Center.

Speaker 15 (21:50):
She was just kind of dunting around, making like just
making noises, laughing, joking. Then before we knew it, we
turned around and now she was trying to climb up
onto the chimney inns.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
There, and when she got to the top.

Speaker 15 (22:04):
Eventually she somehow lost control or I don't know if
she did it eventually, but she fell into the chimney.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
And got stuck about three feet down. LA fire crews
came out. They were able to lift her out with
what they called skillful use of a rope system. She
was conscious and alert and taken to the hospital in
fair condition. Witnesses say it did look like she may
have been intoxicated. Detectives are asking for help as they
try to id human remains found in a field in

(22:31):
San Bernardino County. They were discovered in October near Ligonia
Avenue and Tennessee Street in Redlands. Investigators say the person
was a woman, possibly Hispanic, between twenty four and forty
five years old. She was wearing a Citrus Valley Blackhawks
high school soccer pullover sweatshirt with a white tank top.
A twenty foot python has been found in a dumpster

(22:53):
outside an apartment complex in downtown La. Teresa Sanchez tells
KTLA she had just pulled into the garage at the
Piero Apartments Tuesday when she spotted the snake on top
of the large bin.

Speaker 16 (23:04):
At first, I thought it was maybe like a stuffed animal,
But I'm like, who would leave such a huge stuffed animal?

Speaker 1 (23:10):
And then as I got closer, it.

Speaker 8 (23:11):
Looked to realistic, so I thought it was maybe taxidermy,
and then it moved.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
She says she couldn't get a hold of animal control
and police wouldn't help, so a local reptile hunter was
called to remove the snake, which was believed to be sick.
President Trump assigned an order creating a task force on
the twenty twenty eight Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Speaker 6 (23:29):
The President says he wants to ensure the event is
safe and successful. LA twenty eight chairman Casey Wasserman joined
the President in Washington, DC and thanked him. And now
with the creation of this task force, we've unlocked the
opportunity to level up our planning and deliver the largest
and yes, greatest games for our nation ever. The executive
order mobilizes various federal departments to deal with security, visas

(23:50):
and other issues. Trump says, if necessary, he would send
the military to LA to keep the peace. Michael Monks
KFI News.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Three fires continue to burn as hot, dry weathers settles
in on SoCal. The fire burning in Santa Barbara and
San Luis Obispo Counties has grown to almost eighty four
thousand acres. It's nine percent surrounded. Goldfire north of Big
Bear Lake burned through just over one thousand acres. It's
five percent surrounded, and the fire burning between Anza and
Pinion Pines fifteen percent surrounded. It's burned almost seventeen hundred acres.

(24:20):
The LAPD is investigating a mob that attacked a taco
truck business. The owner's daughter says about thirty men with
batons and other weapons assaulted workers and damaged Tacos Los
Poblanos on Avalon Boulevard early Monday morning. Says the bad
guys even live streamed it. Police have not released any
description of the attackers. ICE officers have been barred from

(24:44):
identifying themselves as local police or using other deceptive tactics
during home arrests under a court approofd settlement that's been
reached in a class action lawsuit. Federal agents are no
longer allowed to say they're doing a criminal investigation or
looking for someone else. At six oh five TANDL on
the news, renters are going to stay cool in La County.

(25:05):
There's a new law that requires that.

Speaker 10 (25:08):
Amy's on it, Sami's on it, Amy's on it, Dami's
on it?

Speaker 1 (25:17):
What am I on? I'm on the stream? Sometimes brand
new shows, Sometimes some that have been out there a
little bit, you know, movies, series, documentaries. I just watched
a really good documentary by the way, but this one
I had not planned to watch because I tried to
watch eighteen eighty three but it was so bad I

(25:39):
couldn't finish it. But then season two of nineteen twenty
three got released earlier this year, and several people had
told me you got to watch it, you got to
watch it, and so I'm like, okay, fine, I'll watch it.
So I watched nineteen twenty three on Paramount. I get
it through Prime Video, and of course I mentioned that
it has two of my favorites Senate. It's Harrison Ford

(26:01):
and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Kara Dutton or Kara Dutton.
And then there's Brandon Sclennar who's Spencer Dutton. He's the
nephew of the Duttons who was raised as their son.
And then Timothy Dalton's in it as Whitfield. He's like
the chief rival to the Dutton's always got to have

(26:21):
a bad guy. It's the second prequel for Yellowstone. It's
the story of the Dutton family, you know, like Kevin Costner,
it's his ancestors or whatever. This one's a keeper. Harrison
Ford is the patriarch. He's fantastic. Helen Mirren is the matriarch.
She's spectacular. And it of course follows their saga that

(26:44):
leads up to Yellowstone, even if you haven't watched Yellowstone,
and it shows how outside forces come into play to
try to stop them as they all march toward the future.
And it's just a really good watch. And like I said,
I didn't I watched Yellowstone, except I still haven't seen
the last season. I tried to watch eighteen eighty three,

(27:05):
but quite frankly, I love faith heal of singing, but
I don't love her acting, and it was like so
distracting to me that I couldn't watch the show. But
this one was just super. There were some storylines that
I thought were probably not necessary, but that's just me.
And there are several different storylines going at the same time,
several different tortured characters in the wilds of Wyoming and

(27:28):
actually around the world. It's beautiful, it's brutal. The scenery
is spectacular, both in Wyoming and other parts of the
US and other continents. It paints a really cool picture
of how the Dutton family became so tough and at
times so ruthless, and then even make some references to
the future during the Yellowstone series era. So if you

(27:48):
want to know why Kevin Costner and his sister or
I guess it's his daughter, are so tough and mean
and sometimes really cruel, I think this kind of kind
of leads you to that sometimes far fetched, sometimes unlikely,
but always entertaining, compelling, and like I said, such a
great setup to Yellowstone. So bravo Taylor Sheridan. You've done
it again. And if you haven't seen Yellowstone, you don't

(28:10):
have to have seen it. It's fantastic as a standalone series.
It's called nineteen twenty three on Paramount. I'm on it
and I think you should be two all right. Time
to get on, oh, the topic of business, So we'll
get in your business with Bloomberg's Courtney Donahoe. Morning, Courtney,
good morning. Oh it's a Disney day for Disney. What's

(28:33):
going on?

Speaker 16 (28:33):
Doubt about it? A couple of things are going on. Well,
first we'll talk about their earnings. Their quarterly report card
came out earlier today. It was a mixed bag revenue
from its TV Networks, which includes ABC, felt short of
Wall Street expectations, and this is why we're seeing shares
falling this morning. The film Studio also struggled, but this
is overshadowing some strong performance from the company's theme parks

(28:56):
and streaming businesses. Plus, ESPN is prepared to launch a
new streaming service. They just came out with the day today,
August twenty first, so how did that? They signed a
number of deals. First, the NFL will sell most of
its media business to Disney in exchange for a ten percent.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Stake in ESPN.

Speaker 16 (29:13):
Plus ESPN signed a separate agreement to become the exclusive
home of the WWE's major events, including WrestleMania and SummerSlam. So, yes,
it is such a busy day today for them.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
WHOA, all right, well, it'll see if well, it'll be
interesting to see if they kind of bounce back up
after all of that news.

Speaker 16 (29:32):
Yeah, because well, the big problem for them was the
Film studio.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
They posted a big loss.

Speaker 16 (29:38):
I know you're such a movie buff, but they posted
a pretty big loss in the most recent quarter because
they had a disappointing box office performance in Elio, that's
their Pixar film and Thunderbolts. Marvel's Thunderbolts was also an
issue for them this past quarter.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Well, if that's any indication, I haven't seen either one. Okay,
a good day for McDonald's.

Speaker 16 (30:00):
Yeah, So again, a couple of things going on with
them too. So they reported earnings this morning. Business picked
up for them in the most recent quarter. Sales rose
three point eight percent, topping expectations.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Amazing.

Speaker 16 (30:13):
Yeah, that is very good for them. Minecraft and Squish
Mellow collaborations that definitely helped them. And then a lot
of people walk back in the door to get those
mccrispy chicken strips that we've been waiting for, so that
was good. So one of the things that helped them
was this collaboration and also revealing some of these new products.
So they're launching an adult happy meal, so nostalgia's on

(30:36):
the menu. They're bringing back all the McDonald an characters
for the first time in twenty years, so beyond Ronald
and Grimace. And by the way, did you hear that
McDonald's revealed that Grimace is actually a taste bud, which
is so strange.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
That's what it's really bizarre. That's what that purple thing is.

Speaker 16 (30:54):
Yes, yes, but they're also bringing back Birdie, Hamburglar, Mayor mccheese,
and the Fry Fry. They're all popping up and each
of these meals is going to have one Uh, you're
gonna get one of six character themed tins, and it's
gonna have postcard stickers and other goodies in it.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
I don't know how many adults want.

Speaker 16 (31:11):
Stickers, but whatever, but that happy meal is going to
be available next Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
I might have to go just because, Yeah, the Hamburglar
and Mayor mccheese, I haven't heard those things for years. Okay,
that's good.

Speaker 16 (31:22):
Yes, the fry friends. I used to have those old
school cups. Remember those glass cups from years ago. I
still have one somewhere in my house.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
Okay, let's talk about losing well, Govy, Yes, Waygovy.

Speaker 16 (31:38):
The maker of that company or the maker of that product.
Novo Nordisk is continuing to lose ground to Eli, Lilly
and It's zep bound weight loss drugs. So Novo reported
its weakest quarterly sales growth in four years.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Now.

Speaker 16 (31:51):
For a while Novo had the early advantage, they were
the first mover in the obesity drug market. Now Lily
has been gaining market share with it's more powerful as
that bound plus a lily hasn't easy to take weight
loss pill that will come on the market as early
as twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
So novah, it's got to do something about this, Okay.
And what are we looking for in stocks? We talked
yesterday that it looked like things were headed higher, but
they ended up lower. So what are we expecting today?

Speaker 16 (32:17):
Yeah, well, stocks are looking at modest gains this morning.
Investors are betting that the Federal Reserve will step in
and raise interest rates. There are more concerns about the economy.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yesterday we got a.

Speaker 16 (32:26):
Report which showed a week services sector and that comes
after data last week showed a slowing labor market. So
we are looking at to OW futures up one hundred
and forty points right now.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Okay, And I just wanted to double check because I
think you just said that that the Fed's going to
raise interest rates.

Speaker 16 (32:41):
No, well, I'm sorry, step in and lower interest rates.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Sorry about that.

Speaker 16 (32:45):
I'm talking about raising and lowering and raise the higher
and lower, yes, lowering. I meant to say, excuse me,
that's okay.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
I just wanted to make sure I'm like, oh, WHOA,
what happened that now? I yeah, no, no, no, sorry
about that? All right. Well, we'll be watching and then
we will in your business again tomorrow with Bloomberg's Courtney Donaho.
Thanks Courtney, definitely see you later, all right.

Speaker 16 (33:05):
Sector, And that comes after data last week showed a
slowing labor market. So we are looking at to OW
futures up one hundred and forty points right now.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
Okay, And I just wanted to double check because I
think you just said that that the Fed's going to
raise interest right.

Speaker 16 (33:18):
No, well, I'm sorry step in and lower interest rates.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Sorry about that.

Speaker 16 (33:23):
I'm talking about raising and lowering and raise the higher
and lower, yes, lowering. I meant to say, excuse me,
that's okay.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
I just wanted to make sure. I'm like, oh, whoa,
what happened that now? I yeah, no, no, no, sorry
about that. All right. Well, we'll be watching and then
we will get in your business again tomorrow with Bloomberg's
Courtney Donahoe. Thanks Courtney, Definitely see you later.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
All right.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Soldier boys off the hook. LA County prosecutors have declined
to file any criminal charges against the rapper, who was
arrested over the weekend, he was a passenger in a
car that got pulled over by LAPD and was arrested
when officers found a gun in the back seat. Dreamers
in California are losing their health insurance at the end
of the month. About twenty three hundred people who have

(34:05):
coverage through Covered California will be affected. This follows the
reversal of a bidinary era policy that had allowed DOCA
recipients to access health insurance, and like Kenny, supervisors are
approved an ordinance requiring all rentals in unincorporated parts of
the county to have a maximum indoor temperature of eighty
two degrees. It also requires landlords to let tenants put

(34:27):
in things like portable ac units, fans, and blackout curtains.
Enforcement starts in January of twenty twenty seven. You know
when it's not over eighty two degrees. We're just minutes
away from handle on the news this morning, with Trump's
deadline looming, Mid East Envoy Steve Whitcoff is in Moscow
and has just wrapped up a meeting with President Putin.

(34:48):
Let's say good morning now to ABC's Stephen Portnoy. So, Steven,
the House really wants to know what's in those Epstein files.
What do they do?

Speaker 10 (34:57):
The Oversight Committee yesterday this is a big headline sent
to demand to the Justice Department for the Epstein files,
and also subpoenas out to several bold faced names in
America's political past, Bill and Hillary Clinton, former FBI directors
James Comy and Robert Muller, and six of the last

(35:17):
seven attorneys general going back to Alberto Gonzales, names like
Loretta Lynch and such. You know, this is a long
throw on the part of the House Oversight Committee. Republicans
and Democrats getting behind this effort. Now why the Clintons, Well,
Bill Clinton was said to have flown several times on

(35:39):
Jeffrey Epstein's plane, and Hillary Clinton is married to Bill Clinton. Now,
in addition to that, she was Secretary of State, and
the cover letter of her subpoena says that perhaps she
has some information on efforts to combat international sex trafficking
and that's why the committee wants to hear from her.
But the attorneys general, well, it's because they oversaw the

(36:02):
Justice Department at periods of time where the Department was
either considering or declining to drop declining to bring charges
against Epstein and or Maxwell, and so this is a
broad net that they're casting for information and for interviews
that would take place over the next several months.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Okay, so a couple of questions. Does the DOJ have
to comply with that demand to release the records?

Speaker 10 (36:33):
Well, that's a very important question and it's not easy
to answer. The idea here is that it's a formal demand.
You know, Congress obviously has subpoena power. The executive branch
could argue that their separation of powers concerns that the
Justice Department has the right to keep criminal investigative materials

(36:54):
within its own branch. But you know, there could be
an accommodation reached, or ultimately this could go to court,
but I don't know. It all depends on how the
administration responds. Tonight here in Washington at the Vice President's residence,
there's a huddle expected where the Attorney General, Pam Bondi
and other senior Trump administration officials are going to talk

(37:14):
around the table about how to get on the same
page with this Epstein matter. They're working on the strategy. Now,
this is not the first time this group is huddling
like this, but it's the latest in a series of
conversations along these lines. We've also reported that the administration
is now considering releasing the transcript of the conversation that

(37:34):
took place a couple of weeks ago between Glaine Maxwell
and the Deputy Attorney General over two days at the
US Attorney's office in Tallahassee. That would be something We
reported yesterday that Gallaine Maxwell didn't say anything that would
implicate the president in the sex trafficking, but Galleine Maxwell

(37:55):
was asked about one hundred different people, and now they're
talking about re leasing that transcript, which is a pretty
extraordinary thing.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
Okay, So it then back to the subpoena people. What
happens if they don't show up, Like if Bill and
Hillary say, nah, not doing it.

Speaker 10 (38:14):
Well, they could if they wanted to, and this is
all in the realm of theory. They could go to
court and try to quash the subpoena, or they could
appear and declined to answer questions under the Fifth Amendment.
But they could also otherwise provide fullsome testimony.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
We'll see.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
I want to see what's in this stuff in these files.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Now.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
I didn't really think that it was kind of like
and I don't know how you guys feel about it,
but like I was kind of like, you know what,
I really think it's done. It's over. Let's move on.
But now with all of this palace intrigue going on, now,
I really want to know because if Trump looks really
bad or did something really bad, and that's why the
administration doesn't want it out, why wouldn't Biden have let

(39:00):
be released when he was in power.

Speaker 10 (39:03):
Well, I mean, look, it's not the common practice of
the Justice Department to release files that led to criminal prosecutions.
It's the Justice Department's practice to prosecute people and put
evidence into the record in court, not to simply post
on its website or make available for the public, you know,
evidence that otherwise hasn't seen the light of day in court.

(39:24):
That's not what prosecutors do. And so this idea that, well,
why didn't Biden just release the files?

Speaker 3 (39:30):
It's just not how they operate.

Speaker 10 (39:32):
And what's happening now is rather extraordinary. The Deputy Attorney
General of the United States reaching down into a you know,
a particular case where someone's already been convicted and serving
a twenty year sentence to sit across the table from
her and get information about a case it's already been
you know, finalized, and she's fighting that same Justice Department
in court to have her conviction overturned. What is going

(39:53):
on here exactly? Well, I wish we had an answer, Well.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Hopefully we will even ABC. Stephen Portnoy, thanks so much,
appreciate the information. As always, you beat. All right, let's
get back to some of the stories coming out of
the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The IE has been
rattled by more small earthquakes. There were a couple of
three point fives this morning in Ontario, a three point
seven near Lytle Creek. The epicenter of a quake yesterday
afternoon was about three miles northwest of Rialto that one

(40:21):
was felt as far away as Riverside and Corona. There
were several smaller or similar sized quakes in the same
area last week. The largest of those was a four
point three. Family friends and co workers have said goodbye
to an La County Sheriff's detective killed in an explosion
in East La.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Bill was one of our best.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Sheriff Robert Luna eulogized Detective William Osborne yesterday as a
hard working transplanted New Yorker who loved his wife and
six kids, his southern California community, and the New York Yankees.
One of Osborne's sons also spoke about his dad.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
Always wanted to give his kids and family the best,
worked incredibly hard for thirty three years, finally applied for retirement,
the thing that he deserved most.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
Sheriff's detectives Joshua Kelly Ecklund and Victor Limis were also
killed in the explosion last month, caused by what was
believed to be an inert grenade. The funeral for Limis
would be tomorrow in Santa Clarita. The service for Detective Limis,
actually the other service, is set for next week in Chino.

(41:26):
A private funeral has been held in Florida for WWE
superstar Hulk Hogan, who died of a heart attack late
last month. Several celebrities were at the service yesterday, including
wrestling legends Rick Flair, Triple H and Vince McMahon. Flair
wrote on x that it was the most beautiful funeral
he's ever attended and said that even in heaven, Hogan

(41:47):
sold out again. Hulk Hogan was seventy one. A large
solar project in Kern County is set to power hundreds
of thousands of homes in La.

Speaker 6 (41:55):
The Elands Solar and Storage Center spans more than forty
six hundred acres in Mojave. It's got one point three
million solar panels. Mir Bass says the LEDWP and City
of LA project should generate power for two hundred and
sixty six thousand households.

Speaker 13 (42:09):
To be here and to see this project begin online
is amazing, amazing.

Speaker 6 (42:16):
Bass travel to the site eighty four miles outside the
city to celebrate its opening. She says it will help
the city's goal of transitioning to one hundred percent clean
energy by twenty thirty five. Michael Monks KFI News.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
Fox eleven news anchor Elex Michaelson says he's leaving to
pursue what he calls an exciting new opportunity. Michaelson says
he's grateful to his viewers and the many guests he
has hosted on his statewide political show.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
The issue is, I'm especially grateful that my boss is
at Fox eleven are giving me the opportunity to express
that gratitude both on here and on air. In the
next couple weeks.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
Michaelson says his last day at Fox eleven is August fifteenth.
What is that? Exciting new opportunity.

Speaker 6 (42:58):
I knew him when he is an intern at Fox eleven,
literally an unpaid intern.

Speaker 9 (43:04):
You know.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
I thought it was a nice guy doing all the
stuff that needed to be done. And it's like and
look at in look at it now. I wonder where
he's going. Exciting new opportunity, bigger and better. Good for him. Okay,
we'll see, we'll let you know. This is KFI and
