You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call
with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
App KFI had KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
It's time for your morning wake up call.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Here's Amy King.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Good morning. This is your wake up call for Monday,
September eighth. I'm Amy King.
Speaker 5 (00:33):
Book.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
You had a successful weekend. It was a win win
weekend for our teams. The Rams won yesterday at SOFI,
the Chargers one Friday in South Paulo, Brazil.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Importantly all the nighters. I know what.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
I was just focusing on La okay, and I had
my first first weekend in my football pool, and I'm
starting off about how I ended last year fifty to fifty.
I used to We've been in this football pool for
I don't know more than twenty years, and I used
to actually do pretty well in it. And now I
can't do picks to save my life.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Did you see that crazy game with Buffalo last night.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I did not come from behind victory. It's one of
the biggest come from behind Oh yeah, and Buffalo or
something like that. Yeah, yes, they've said the other team
was stunned. Well, that's what happened. Don't get your eye
off the ball right here's what's ahead on wake up call.
(01:34):
Two guys who allegedly stole more than sixty thousand dollars
from a wedding reception in Glendale have been arrested. One
of the two men was spotted on security video grabbing
a box filled with cash, checks and gift cards on
September first. That guy and his alleged getaway car driver
were arrested on Saturday. Police searched both men's homes and
found a bunch of cash and checks made out to
(01:56):
the couple from the wedding, along with guns and narcotics
and Amberlerd's been canceled after a thirties found a one
year old boy allegedly taken from his mom at knife
point by his twenty year old dad and the paternal
grandparents in the city of Industry. They were found in
Arizona yesterday. At least two arrests have been made. A
deadly attack at a bus station in Jerusalem is left
(02:18):
six dead and a dozen others injured. We're going to
get the latest one. That and also a hoothi attack
on an airport in southern Israel with ABC's Jordanna Miller.
That's coming up at five twenty Russia's President Putin kind
of invited Ukraine's President Zelensky to Moscow. ABC's Chris Bachia
is going to join us a little later this hour
to find out about Dolenski's RSVP. Hey, reporters aren't always
(02:43):
only at the White House. Our White House correspondent John
Decker was at the US Open this weekend and guess what,
so was the President. We're going to get an update
from him in just a couple of minutes. And how
are you with heights? Personally, I'm terrified of them, but
for this one I'm going to conquer those feares again.
We're going over the edge again this year, repelling off
(03:05):
a twenty five story building. We're going to tell you
why we're doing it. Neil Savedra is also going to
do it with me. We're also going to tell you
how you can not only help me and Neil raise
money for a really good cause, but you could do
it too. Ready, ready to go over the edge. It's
actually quite the rush, but scary. Let's get started with
(03:27):
some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four.
Our newsroom the LAPD is no longer providing security for
former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
The LAPD, along with the CHP, started providing security for
Harris last Monday, after President Trump revoked her Secret Service protection.
In the following days, the LAPD faced backlash, with critics
saying officers were being diverted from crime suppression duties to
protect Harris, who lives in Brentwood. The LA Times, citing sources,
reports officers assigned to protect Harris were in fact pulled
(03:56):
away from other responsibilities in the San Fernando Valley. Angela's
Police Protective League also criticized the arrangement, saying Harris is
a multi millionaire who can afford her own private security.
Daniel Martindale Caffie News.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
At twenty one year old UCLA Bruins' backup quarterback has
been suspended over a felony arrest. Red Shirt sophomore Pierce
Clarkson was arrested Friday in La. He posted thirty thousand
dollars bond and was released. Fox eleven is saying he
may have been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon,
possibly involving domestic violence. A vigil has been held for
(04:29):
a man shot and killed during an argument at a
McDonald's drive through in East Hollywood. The shooter told police
he fired in self defense, but the fiance of the
man who died says the other guy was the aggressor.
She says they were in the drive through Saturday night
when the driver in front of them suddenly hit his
brakes and then claimed they hit his car. That led
(04:51):
to an argument, and when the fiance took a swing
at the other driver, the guy allegedly pulled out a gun.
A family in La is fighting to save its popular
donkey attraction on Alvera Street. Yeah, I've had my picture
taken with that thing. A Mexican donkey cart known as
La Carrata. I'm not even sure if I'm pronouncing that right,
dates back to the nineteen sixties. Richard Hernandez tells KTLA
(05:14):
his parents started the business and his name was supposed
to be added to the vendor list, but his mom
died in twenty nineteen and it never was. He says,
now the city is trying to evict him.
Speaker 7 (05:24):
Somebody must want this spot, or somebody might want to
run the same donkey business without me. They're spending all
this money to move a little ten by tenth spot
pul in the middle of the sun. You know, it's
not right, doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Hernande says he's getting ready for a jury trial and
is asking Mayor l Bass to step in and stop
the eviction. We've got John Decker on the line. It's
our White House correspondent, and as you've heard, John covers
the White House for us, but he also gets to
do some fun things. This weekend, you were at the USO.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
I was at the US Open. You know, my worlds
were colliding. Amy my thirtieth year covering the US Open.
It's also my thirtieth year covering the White House, and
this is the year that President Donald Trump returned to
the US Open. So I was there yesterday when the
President came with a lot of White House aides and
advisors and Cabinet secretaries in tow Among the people that
(06:23):
he brought with them traveling on Air Force one, the
Attorney General Pambondi, the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, White House
Press Secretary Caroline Levitt, And then if you were just
looking around the stadium as I was with my binoculars,
you saw all the celebrities that were sprinkled throughout Arthur
Ash Stadium yesterday for the men's final between Carlos Alcaraz
(06:45):
of Spain and Yonixcenter of Italy. Why oh, it was
a for setter and Carlos Alcaaz clearly was the better
player yesterday. Alcaraz has won in twenty twenty five two
of the four Grand slams, Yonix Center winning the other two,
so a bit of a rivalry between these two. But
(07:06):
on Sunday, the better player out there on the court
was Carlos Soparez.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Okay, And you said that there were celebrities dotted throughout
the crowd, So there's not like a designated sitting area
or like when you go to Dodger Stadium, like most
of the celebrities hanging out in the dugout club. But
are they just kind of everywhere?
Speaker 4 (07:24):
They're kind of everywhere. There's what's known as the President's Suite,
so a lot of celebrities there, and that does not
mean the president of the United States. The President's Suite
refers to the president of the US Tennis Association, the USTA.
But then all of the sponsors have their own suites
and boxes throughout the President was sitting in the Rolex
suite yesterday, and then other sponsors of the US Open
(07:47):
have their own suites and they pretty much guarantee that
there would be a celebrity or two in their box.
And some of the celebrities that show up are big
lovers of tennis, men's and women's tennis, and others just
want to be seen, I guess, you know, because it
is such a who is who was there? Oh my god,
he's there.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
That's what we want to know. We want to know
who was there?
Speaker 4 (08:09):
The who was there? Well, let's see, let me go through.
Let me go through my list. Off the top of
my head, Bruce Springsteen was there, Pink was there. As
far as pop artists are concerned, Jerry Seinfeld was there,
John Hamm was there. My gosh, Ben Stiller was there,
his wife Christine Taylor, Christina Taylor was there. And then
(08:33):
of course lots of tennis celebrities if you're into that,
Martina Navertalova, of course, John McEnroe calling the match, Chrissy
Everett on hand. So to me, it's it's always fun
to see all of those people there enjoying the great
dank game of tennis. Which I love so much.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah, okay, so tell me what kind of reception did
the president get? It's not exactly the UFC.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Good question, Yeah, good question. Not like, not the same
kind of crowd. So I would say there were more
booze than cheers, but there were cheers for the president.
He was shown on the big screen that is at
Arthur Ash Stadium three separate occasions, and each time the
same type of reaction, more booze than cheers. But there
(09:16):
you know, look, there are people that are very supportive
of the president. Half the country that is supportive of
President Donald Trump, and so I think that's what the
president was anticipating. I think it was a better reaction
than he received in twenty fifteen, the last time Amy,
he was at the US Open. That was just months
after announcing that he was running for president. So a
little bit I think better reaction that he got ten
(09:38):
years later in his return to the US Open.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Okay, kafi's White House correspondent John Decker on the courts
for the weekend. Thanks so much, John, have a great.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Day, thanks Amy.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
All right, let's get back to some of the stories
coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. At
least six people have been killed in a shooting attack
at a bus stop in Jerusalem. It was the country's
deadliest shooting in nearly a year. Paramedic said at least
twelve other people were hurt this morning, six or in
serious condition. Police say a security officer and a civilian
(10:07):
shot and killed the two attackers soon after the shooting started.
A drone fired by who the rebels in Yemen has
hit Israel's Southern airport. Israel says the rebels attacked with
several drones over the weekend. Most of them were intercepted
outside Israel, but at least one got through Israel's iron
Dome defense system and hit the passenger terminal at Ramon
(10:28):
International Airport. The Israeli militaryes's commercial airspace was shut down
for a couple hours and flights were diverted over Southern Israel.
Jury selection is set to begin in Florida in the
federal trial of a man accused of trying to assassinate
President Trump. ABC's Chuck Stevertson says the judge has agreed
to let Ryan Ruth represent himself, but said court appointed
(10:50):
attorneys need to remain as stand by counsel.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Ruth and court papers, is filing objections to the government's
request to introduce new evidence, and submits a list of
proposed's witnesses he hopes to call at his trial in
Fort Pierce, Florida. In one motion, Ruth requests female strippers,
a putting green and a golf match with President Trump.
He says, if Trump wins quote, he can execute me.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Wow, prosecutor say, Ruth plotted for weeks to kill Trump
before he aimed a rifle through the shrubbery at Trump's
West Palm Beach country club. Opening statements are expected to
start Thursday. Protests have been held in Chicago as the
city gets ready for an influx of federal immigration agents
and possibly National Guard troops. Churches in the city have
urged calm resistance. President Trump has threatened federal intervention to
(11:37):
fight crime. He told reporters yesterday's only interested in protecting
people from violence.
Speaker 8 (11:41):
How many people were killed in Chicago last weekend?
Speaker 9 (11:44):
Eight?
Speaker 8 (11:45):
You know how many people were killed in Chicago the
week before seven? You know how many people were wounded?
Seventy four people were wounded. You think there's worse than that?
Speaker 4 (11:56):
I don't think that.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
This past weekend at least eighteen people were shot and
five were killed in Chicago. South Korea says it's reached
a deal with the US for the release of South
Korean workers caught in an immigration raid at a Hyundai
plant in Georgia. ABC Selina Wang says South Korea has
chartered a plane to take those workers back.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
South Korea is a US ally.
Speaker 10 (12:16):
The country recently pledged to invest billions of dollars in
the US, and the government is expressing concern here. The
Ford Ministry said the following quote, the economic activities of
our companies investing in the US and the rights and
interests of her nationals must not be unfairly violated.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
More than three hundred South Koreans were among four hundred
and seventy five people detained at the plant last week.
Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga were the bells of the
ball last night's MTV Video Music Awards. Grande won Video
of the Year in Best Pop Video. Gaga picked up
four awards more than anyone else, including Artist of the Year.
Mariah Carey received the Video Vanguard Award and delivered a
(12:55):
medley of her hits. The late Ozzy Osbourne was honored
with a tribute performance. It was a big weekend for TV.
Speaker 11 (13:01):
Apple TV's The Studio one big at the Creative Arts
Emmy Awards, leading with nine wins, including Guest Actor for
Brian Cranston. HBO Max's The Penguin followed with eight, taking
home trophies for costumes, prosthetic makeup, hair styling, and more.
Severance earned six, highlighted by Merit Weaver's Guest Actress win,
while and Or and Arcane each scored four. Other standout
(13:22):
wins went to Julianne Nichols for Hacks, Sean Hattisey for
The Pit, and Rebel Ridge for Outstanding TV Movie. The
Primetime Emmy Awards will be held next Sunday. How the
Brooker KFI News.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Former President Obama picked up the twenty twenty five Creative
Arts Emmy for Outstanding Narrator for the Indian Ocean episode
of the Netflix documentary series Our Oceans. The LAPD has
been pulled off security duty for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The LAPD and HP started providing security for Harris a
week ago after her Secret Service protection was canceled by
(13:56):
President Trump, but that was heavily criticized because it took
officers off other crime fighting efforts. The LA Police Protective
Leave also criticized it, saying Harris is a multimillionaire she
can afford her own private security. Matthew Stafford's become the
first quarterback in NFL history to reach sixty thousand career
(14:19):
passing year. It's not the first one, but apparently he
did it quicker than anyone else. He did it yesterday
at Sofi Stadium during the Rams fourteen to nine season
opening win over Houston. The Chargers also scored a season
opening win they beat the Chiefs in Brazil on Friday.
(14:40):
A Star Wars fan has bought the original lightsaber used
by Darth Vader in the Empire Strikes Back and Return
of the Jedi. It's the same lights saber used in
the iconic I Am Your Father scene from Empire. The
lightsaber sold for three point six million dollars. That's a
record high for a Star Wars prop and it doesn't
(15:00):
even work. I don't know, sounds a little bit crazy.
Let's say good morning now to ABC's Geordana Miller in Jerusalem. Giordana,
before we talk about what we had planned on talking about,
can you give us an update on the shooting at
the bus stop in Jerusalem.
Speaker 12 (15:18):
Can really. Police say that two Palestinian militants opened fire
at a bus stop, a busy bus stop at the
entrance to Jerusalem, not just a place where there's one
bus stop, but where there's almost a street of bus
stops with dozens of people that were waiting for different
(15:40):
buses to pull up. These two militants opened fire on
pedestrians that were waiting at the bus stop. Then they
entered one bus and opened fire. Six Israeli civilians have
been killed, five are in critical condition, another twelve injured.
At the scene of the shooting, there was an off
(16:03):
duty combat officer and an armed civilian that opened fire,
bravely went into the bush and killed the two shooters.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
And now Israeli, Oh we may have lost her. Did
we lose her? Okay? Okay, So we're going to try
to get her back. Sometimes it's tough because she's over
in Jerusalem. Oh she's okay, she's dialing back up. All right, Jordana,
we have you back.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Hi.
Speaker 12 (16:35):
There, I lost you, I know there.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
But what happens from halfway world away. So so what
we heard was that that the an off duty Israeli military.
Speaker 12 (16:49):
Combat officer, yes okay off an army officer, combat soldier
who was off duty but armed, and an armed civilian
and went on to the bus and killed the two
Palestinian shooters. Police now investigating the terror attack and who
(17:10):
could have been helped these two assailants. It turns out
they come from the West Bank, and as you know,
there's been intensifying tensions there in the West Bank settler
attacks on Palestinians. The Israeli armies been operating more frequently
and intensely in the northern part of the West Bank,
(17:32):
the kind of hotbeds of Palestinian militancy there. Plus, of course,
the war in Gaza is continuing and expanding into Gaza City,
with the Israelis over the weekend bombing the first high
rise buildings there. The troops, Israeli troops are not on
the ground there yet, but the Israeli Army has begun
(17:54):
a very intense phase of air strikes there. So all
of this contributing to what Israeli officials say is an
uptick in terrorist threats, which they say they can't prevent
or protect the country from every single one, and this
one got through. We have six Israelis dead, five that
(18:17):
are in hospitals fighting for their lives, and another dozen
moderately injured.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Okay, and then Jordana you mentioned the one that got through,
and there was also an attack not from a Palestinian
but from the Houtis that was fired on to an
airport and hit got through the iron dome.
Speaker 12 (18:37):
That's right, the Houties fired an attack drone on the
city of a lot on the airport there, the Ramone
International Airport. And it's not that it evaded the system.
The system picked up the drone. The problem is, according
to the Israeli Army, it was an issue of human
(18:58):
error and the the it was picked up on the radar,
but whoever was analyzing the data did not categorize it
as a threat until it became too late. So the
attack drone slammed into the arrivals hall of that small airport.
Thankfully nobody killed. A couple of people lightly injured, and
(19:21):
the airport you know, was not operational for about two hours,
but then has been back online and you know, flights
have been in and out ever since for more than
twenty four hours now.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Okay, yeah, and wow, did that hit a civilian airport.
I was wondering if it was a military airport or civilian.
Speaker 12 (19:41):
So no, it's civilian. Yeah, it's a civilian airport. Thankfully
it didn't hit the busy part of the like the
entrance hall for example, where you know from video security
cameras you can see hundreds of people scrambling.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Right.
Speaker 12 (19:56):
It hit on the other side, on the or one
of the arrivals halls, smaller but nonetheless blowing out the glass.
If there had been a lot of people there certainly
would have been you know, could have been a much
deadlier attack. You know, this comes after remembering me the
Israelis just a couple of weeks ago in a targeted,
(20:17):
very intense, targeted bombing strike, took out the UTI prime
minister and several top generals and officials around him. So
the Houties have been trying ever since that strike to retaliate,
and they've fired several missiles which Israel has you know,
shot down. They've fired other drones. This drone got through, Okay.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
ABC's Jodannah Miller in Jerusalem, thanks so much for the updates.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Thanks Samy talksin Talk too Soon.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
An eighty six year old man has been mauled to
death by a pair of rottweilers in Norwalk. Like g I,
was out for a walk Saturday morning when he got attacked.
The owner of the dog's told sheriffs deputies the animals
got out and he had been looking for them. The
man took the dog's home, but police say they would
likely be placed in the custody of Animal Care and Control.
A woman has been killed after being hit by several
(21:10):
cars on the ninety one freeway in Buena Park. It
happened around one am yesterday in the westbound lanes of
the freeway, just east of Nott Avenue. Police say she
apparently got out of her vehicle, but they didn't say
why or why she was stopped on the freeway. The
Santa Monica City Council said to vote on whether to
declare a fiscal emergency.
Speaker 9 (21:26):
The motion would give the city manager the authority to
take all necessary steps to address, alleviate, and mitigate the emergency.
The city blames uncertain revenues and increasing costs and liabilities.
One of them is a roughly two hundred and thirty
million dollars settlement in a sexual assault case involving a
former city employee. The vote is expected at the next
(21:48):
council meeting on Tuesday. Ailin Gonzalez KFI News.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
California could soon go its own way on COVID shots.
Speaker 13 (21:55):
The state has paused vaccination appointments while at reviews supplies
after the FDA limited app access to the updated shots
only for seniors and high risk adults with cases rising.
California is joining Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii to set its
own standards. The group calls itself the West Coast Alliance,
created after accusing the Trump administration of weakening the CDC.
Forgida Degostino KFI News.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Last, one of the co founders of super Tramp has died.
Rick Davies had bought a long battle with cancer. He
and Roger Hodgson founded super Tramp in nineteen seventy. Nineteen
seventy nine's Breakfast in America album produced super hits for Supertramp,
(22:40):
including the logical song Breakfast in America, Goodbye Stranger, and
Take the Long Way Home. Rick Davies was eighty one.
Two libraries at USC's University Park campus are going to
be opened today following a bomb threat that led to evacuations.
Campus police say they email threats were made against Levy
(23:02):
Library and the Doheany Memorial Library yesterday. The LAPD bomb
Squad swept both libraries before declaring the all clear early
last night. Hurricane Kiko has weakened to a Category two
storm as it turns in the Pacific north of Hawaii.
The National Hurricane Center says the storm is going to
pass hundreds of miles off the coast of the Big Island.
(23:23):
Maui and Hawaii are still expecting strong winds, heavy rains,
high surf, and possible flooding. A state of emergency has
been declared. A ceremony to honor actor Tom Hanks at
West Point has been canceled. Hanks was supposed to get
the Sylvanus Thayer Award, which goes to someone who didn't
attend the military academy but exemplifies ideals like duty, honor,
(23:45):
and country. It was supposed to happen September twenty fifth.
There's no word yet if Hanks is going to get
the honor at a later date. Santa Monica is having
some money trouble six oh five. It's handle on the news.
They may declare an emergency. I was going to tell
you all about that and I'm going to tell you
all about this, so it's time to go over the edge.
(24:07):
Oh boy, just talking about this gives me how heart palpitations.
So there is you might have heard of it. There's
a small homelessness problem problem in la I know I'm
being facatious. Here's the deal, and we've done countless news
stories about it, and you've heard about it and how
there's billions of dollars going towards homelessness and nothing ever changes.
(24:30):
There's actually a group called the Union Rescue Mission and
they're actually making a change because they're going to the
people who want the help. You know, when they say
we come and clear the camps, we offer help, and
a lot of people don't take it. The people the
Union Rescue Mission focuses on are the people who actually
want the help and they need your help in order
to do it. Because here's here's one of the catches.
(24:52):
It's completely privately funded. They're not getting money from the state,
they're not getting money from the city or the county
because they don't take in people who are on drugs
or alcohol. Again, they want the people who want the help.
They'll help people get off of that. But in their
shelters and that kind of stuff. You can't have that,
and so they don't get the funding, and so they
(25:13):
rely solely on funding of really generous and kind people
like you, who are like, Hey, I can't help everybody,
but I can I can help somebody, and maybe make
a small donation because who doesn't want to help. You
can give a buck to the guy standing on the
corner who you don't know if he's actually homeless or not,
or if he's just out to scam you, or you
can give it to an organization like this. It's actually
(25:35):
going to help. So here's how we're gonna help. We're
gonna go over the edge and repel twenty five stories
off the beautiful, big old black universal Hilton that you
see as you drive down the one oh one, and
uh yeah, we're gonna raise money for that, and we're
gonna do it a couple different ways. We're gonna be
(25:56):
telling you about it over the next couple of weeks
because it's happening September twenty sixth and twenty seventh. It's
only two weeks away, and we're going to be raising
money and for every dollar that we raise, it's going
to be doubled up to five hundred thousand dollars because
they've got a match going on, So that's super cool,
and it goes to support Union rescue missions, long term
(26:17):
solutions from emergency shelter recovery programs, transitional housing, education training,
and even job placement. So really helping these people get
the helping hand that they need, not the handout but
the hand up, which I am so much behind this.
So we're going over the edge the September twenty sixth
and twenty seventh, and you can there's a couple of
(26:40):
ways you can help. You could donate to my team,
or you could donate to Neil Savatri's team. He's going
to go over the edge too. Or you could say,
you know what, I want to go over the edge
and I want to help, and you can find out
how to do that at RM dot org slash ote
over the Edge. Lots of different ways for you to help.
(27:01):
We're gonna be talking about it more. And you know,
if you have five bucks, ten bucks, a hundred bucks,
we don't care. Every little bit is going to actually
help people who want to get off the streets and
want to get into homes and want to end the
homeless crisis. So just to be clear, you're not just
jumping off a building. There's ropes and stuff, right, we're repelling. Okay, yes,
i'd say jumping off a building. We're repelling twenty five
(27:23):
stories down it. Okay, yeah, we'll talk about that more later.
We gotta change a subject. Seriously, it's me nervous as
talking about it. Here's some stories coming out of the
KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Glendale police are investigating the
two men arrested for allegedly stealing about sixty thousand dollars
worth of gift cards, cash, and checks from a wedding reception.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
During the wedding reception on September first, a man made
off with a locked and secured box. Inside was about
sixty thousand dollars worth of cash and checks for the newlyweds.
On Saturday, police announced the arrests of the primary suspect
and his alleged getaway driver. Police searched both men's homes
and large amounts of cash and checks made out to
the couple, along with guns and narcotics. Neither man has
(28:05):
a prior criminal history. Daniel Martindale, CAFI News.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
A squatter has been found living in the crawl space
of an apartment complex in Oregon. Witness says they saw
a man walking to the back of one of the
buildings last week and then noticed the door of the
crawl space was open and there was some light coming
from inside. Sheriff's deputies forced their way inside and say
a man had obviously been living there for quite some time.
He had a bed, lights, chargers, TVs, and other electronics
(28:33):
plugged into the power of the building. Deputies also found
a pipe with white residue that tested positive for MATH.
The squatter was taken to jail. Stilantis has recalled more
than ninety one thousand Jeep Grand Cheripejen grand Cherokee hybrids
because of a software malfunction. The National Highway Transportation Safety
Administration says battery pack microprocessors could overload and reset on
(28:58):
some model year two thousand from twenty two to twenty
six plug in hybrids. The reset could result in the
loss of drive power. New York Mayor Eric Adams says
he has no plans to end his re election campaign.
Speaker 12 (29:11):
I'm the only one that can beat Mendonnie.
Speaker 14 (29:14):
At a Gracie Mansion news conference Friday, Adam's addressing reports
he'd drop out at the request of President Trump to
bolster former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's chances to beat
Democratic socialist Zorn Mom Donnie.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
Tools spoil brats running for Mayo.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Andy had this to say.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Andrew Cuomo is a snake in.
Speaker 14 (29:34):
Elijah Adams, insisting he's in the race to win it.
I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
All right, it's time to get in your business now
with Bloomberg's Courtney Donaho. Morning, Courtney, good morning. Okay, we've
got Apple and uh I would be watching Apple stocks
because they got a big launch tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Yes, wait, it's almost over.
Speaker 15 (29:56):
Apple's introducing its next gen iPhone lineup, including news smart watches,
o their gadgets. That's all going to happen tomorrow. Apple
has fallen behind a lot of the other tech giants
in the artificial intelligence space, so it's really betting on
its hardware and these changes and these updates to keep
customers locked in. So for the first time in half
(30:16):
a decade, Apple is going to be introducing major design
upgrades for the iPhone, an all new model expected to
be called the iPhone seventeen error that's going to be
ultra thin. But we have to remember that the iPhone
is Apple's biggest money maker. So this is going to
be a huge date for them tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Okay, Paramount, we were just talking about this the MTV
Video Awards last night. We're on CBS because apparently nobody's
watching MTV anymore. But Paramount is looking to revive MTV
in the brand. No people are watching MTV, but they're old.
Speaker 15 (30:49):
When the average age listen to this, the average age
of an MTV viewer is fifty six years old.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Fifty six Yes, and this I.
Speaker 15 (30:59):
Mean once defined pop culture. Now it's for the senior said,
where the oncoming senior said.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
So one of the big issues.
Speaker 15 (31:07):
For them is a lot of people have been cutting
the cord turning to streaming. That is a huge challenge
for them. So Paramount Skydance is looking to revitalize the network.
They're looking for these younger viewers. So the Wall Street
Journalist reporting that they're looking to Bravo's reinvention as a
lifestyle network with events. Bravo con you know, of course,
is so huge, they're thinking this may be the path.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
That it could take.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Okay, so I have a so if that's the case
with the MTV. They should call it Metamucil TV.
Speaker 15 (31:39):
Stunned when I saw fifty six.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
It's crazy, wow, crazy. Okay, here's an oldie, but a
goodie that got a huge makeover and apparently it's a hit.
And it's the Wizard of Oz at the Sphere.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yes, it's strong.
Speaker 15 (31:51):
As many as five thousand fans to the Sphere in
Las Vegas two to three times a day. Fans are
paying an average of two hundred bucks apiece. Veruses are
telling us that executives estimate the film will gross hundreds
of millions of dollars over the next year.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
It could top one billion dollars before the end of
its run.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Crazy. All right, let's talk about more big money stocks
on the rise this morning. Yeah, we're kicking off a
very busy trading week. Stocks are in the green. The
highlight for Wall Street is this Thursday's inflation report, and
this is after we got that disappointing jobs report. The
jobs report showed businesses have sharply reduced their hiring.
Speaker 15 (32:28):
The US added just twenty two thousand jobs last month.
The unemployment rate the highest level since twenty twenty one.
So we are seeing a bit of recovery after the
losses on Friday down futures.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
They're up seventy points at this hour.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
All right, time to get in your business. We just
did it with Bloomberg's Courtney Donaho, like we do every
morning on weekdays at five forty. Let's do it tomorrow too.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Definitely.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
I'll be here all right, thanks Cortney. Two people have
struck lot of gold, matching all six winning numbers in
the nearly one point eight billion dollar drawing Saturday night.
The tickets were sold in Missouri and Texas. Two people
in California matched five numbers Zell. Each went about one
and a half million dollars. Those tickets were sold into
Hatchipee and Dublin. Tonight's drawing resets to the base twenty
(33:12):
million dollar jackpot. The Santa Monica City Council is going
to vote on our at its next meeting whether to
declare a fiscal emergency. City officials say the city has
suffered impacts from the COVID nineteen pandemic, financial struggles, and
the settlement of a sexual assault case that involves a
former city worker. The city also says federal economic and
(33:33):
immigration police policy shifts have created a burden on the city.
Former President Barack Obama has received the twenty twenty five
Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator. The awards were
presented at the Peacock Theater at La Live. Obama was
nominated for the Indian Ocean episode of the Netflix documentary
series Our Oceans. Those are so They're such beautiful, beautiful
(33:58):
documentary series. It's away from Handle on the news this morning.
That gift grabbing wedding crasher. They got him. Bill's going
to tell you more about that. Let's say good morning
now to ABC's Chris Baccia. Morning, Chris, Hey, good morning Amy. So,
President Zelenski says he has no intention of going to
(34:21):
Moscow to meet with Russia's President Putin. Putin last week,
I think it sounded more like a joke than anything else,
but said, Hey, if he wants to talk, he can
come to Moscow.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Yeah. I think that's right. I think it was almost sarcastic.
I mean, I'm sure Putin would have that meeting, but
I think he knew that that wasn't a real legitimate offer.
And that's what President Zelenski told our Martha Raddiston in Ukraine.
Over the weekend was that this was something Putin understood
(34:57):
to be not a real offer, not a serious offer.
He said, I can't go to quote the capital of
the terrorists that's attacking my country. And Putin understands this.
There are third party willing to host this meeting, is
what Lenski said, maybe seven of them. And Lenski said
(35:19):
he's willing to sit down with Putin in any of
those places with no preconditions. He's ready to do it.
And we know that President Trump has made it the
priority of his negotiation is to get the two of
them in a room, as he said it, and we
just haven't seen any real indication that that's anywhere near happening.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Right and so, and Trump was pushing as recently as
last week in the White House, and I want him
to sit down. Putin knows what I want him to do,
but so far there's been kind of no movement.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
On that, right, right, And I think President Trump has
staked his diplomacy on getting the two of them in
a room, whether bilateral meeting, which which always seemed unrealistic
from the beginning, or a trilateral meeting with the US
as a mediator, or perhaps a fourth country there as well,
always seemed more realistic. But but Trump has really made
(36:14):
that his goal. Remember when he went to Alaska to
meet with Putin, he started by suggesting that a cease
fire was in the works that would be the US effort,
and then virtually on the way literally to Alaska on
Air Force one, he made it pretty clear that what
he was hoping to get, what he was trying to
get was an agreement from Putin to sit down with Zelenski.
(36:35):
And we just aren't there yet. So whether the President
is going to take a new approach, he did hint
at a second phase to his rush approach, and that
might mean sanctions at least that is the hint, But
we don't know that's for sure, and we know this
president keeps us guessing. But as far as that that
(36:56):
sit down a meeting, we really don't have any any
clear momentum toward that. Meanwhile, Russia has continued it's aosault
of Ukraine in really punishing numbers in an a polishing way.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Yeah, and I was just going to ask you about that.
They had another just huge attack over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Yeah, that's right, over over eight hundred drones coming into
Ukrainian aerospace. They intercepted many of them before people died.
And this was the first time that the Russians hit
a Ukrainian government building in Kiev, and that's really symbolic.
The Prime Minister said it marked a new stage of
this war. The US Special Envoy to Ukraine, General Keith Kellock,
(37:39):
said it appeared to be an escalation. So while this
peace track, this diplomacy discussion that we're having in the
news and that the leaders are commenting on consistently, that
the President of the United States keeps pushing for, and
while that all goes on on one track, the war
continues in an unrelenting way in Ukraine.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
Yeah, just seems to be going the wrong direction. ABC's
Chris Boccia, thank you so much for the information. We
appreciate it and thanks for having me. All right, let's
get back to some of the stories coming out of
the KFI twenty four hour newsroom and Amber alert for
a one year old boy reported kidnapped in the city
of Industry has been canceled. Police say the boy's father
and the men's parents. The man's parents grabbed the boy
(38:25):
at knife point yesterday from a target on Kalima Road.
They were found in Arizona. At least two people have
been arrested. Police in Nepal of opened fire on anti
government protesters, killing at least eleven people and injuring several others.
The protesters were demonstrating against a government ban on social media.
(38:46):
They pushed through barbed water wire and forced riot police
to retreat as they surrounded the Parliament building this morning.
Police fired tear gas and a water cannon, but they
were outnumbered. President Trump's plans on the anniversary of nine
eleven include a memorial event and a trip to New
York City.
Speaker 14 (39:04):
The President is scheduled to start the day at the
Pentagon to honor the service members and civilians killed there
on nine to eleven. Vice President J. D. Vance will
be at Ground Zero for the twenty fourth anniversary of
the terrorist attacks.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Later in the day.
Speaker 14 (39:18):
There are multiple reports that Trump plans to fly to
New York City, his birthplace, to watch the Yankees take
on the Detroit Tigers. I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
Some baby loungers sold on Amazon are being recalled because
of a risk of suffocation. The Consumer Product Safety Commission
has recalled rmy wo Baby loungers in the style gray feather.
They have a foam sleeping pad and padded bumpers. The
loungers were sold on Amazon between January of last year
(39:52):
and April of this year. A small planes made an
emergency landing in a watermelon field near Six Flags Magic
Mountain in Valencia. The pilot and her two passengers are okay.
The bumpy landing happened yesterday afternoon at Henry Mayo Drive
and the Old Road. The pilot set her engines, sputtered
and stopped after she took off from the Santa Paula

Airport in Ventura County. And Apple is expected to unveil
its thinnest iPhone ever at its hardware event this week.
Apple is had to release the iPhone seventeen, seventeen Pro
and seventeen Pro Max tomorrow. Announcements are also expected on
updates for the Apple Watch and the air Pods. The
