It is five o'clock Monday, August twenty fifth.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Bill Handle's birthday. It is today. Oh, no worry, it is.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Okay. We're not supposed to acknowledge it, but I think
I have an aclan that.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
We might just a little bit. Yeah, and he's here today.
He always says, ridiculous. If people drink their birthdays off,
what's the big deal.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
I think there's always excuses for celebration, and I love them. Hey,
here's something to celebrate. Wake Up Call has gone global.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
We actually found it out well because we were we're.
Speaker 1 (01:09):

somebody said, hey, I'm calling from Kentucky, and then people
started calling in and saying where they were from. So
we're gonna let you know where people are listening to
wake Up Call along with all of you, right here
in beautiful, sunny and hot southern California.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
My god, it's been.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Hot this morning. It was hot, was it?
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:30):
I have felt nice this morning.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Oh, you're on the other side of the hill.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
That's true. I'm not in a valet.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Okay, let's get going because we got a lot coming up.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
On wake up call. Here's what we're working on.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Two missing brothers that triggered and Amber alert in la
have been found. The ten and two year old boys
are believed to have been taken from their foster home
in the West Lake District early Thursday morning by their
biological mom. The LAPD says the boys were found yesterday
in Las Vegas and are okay. The mom's been taken
into custody. Y Omar Obrego Garcia has arrived outside of
(02:03):
Baltimore Immigration Office and has.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Been taken into ice custody.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
The guy from Maryland, who was deported to a prison
in El Salvador then returned to the US, is facing
deportation to Uganda, of all places. Uganda has agreed to
accept some deportees from the US. A Brego Garcia declined
a plea deal, which would have deported him to Costa Rica.
He's instead pleaded not guilty to human smuggling charges. A
(02:28):
one of a kind Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant basketball card
that was expected to sell for more than six million
dollars has been sold at auction four and he guesses
a record twelve point nine million dollars. The final bid
was placed Saturday, which would have been Bryant's forty seventh birthday.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Lots coming up on wake Up Call.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Doesn't look like there's any signs of the fighting stopping
or the leaders of Russia and Ukraine sitting down to
talk piece anytime soon. We're going to get the latest
on that with ABC's Guy's Davies. That's coming up in
just a couple of minutes. And you know, it seems
like we have a new scam surfacing like every week. Well,
we got one for you today and you're going to
want to pay attention to this one. Cafi's national correspondent
(03:10):
Rory O'Neil will join us with the latest on how
the bad guys are now going after your retirement savings.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Lovely.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Jeffrey Epstein's former right hand woman met last month with
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and now we know what
she said. We're going to dive into that with ABC's
Peter Harr Lamboos that's coming up at five point fifty.
Let's get started with some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A driver has
survived a crash one thousand feet down an embankment off
(03:38):
the Angelus Crest Highway near Altadena.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
It happened at about six fifteen Sunday evening when the
CHP received an emergency text from an iPhone. About a
half hour later, as someone at the scene told the
CHP the vehicle was one thousand feet down an embankment
near the Strawberry Park Trail. The victim was taken to
a hospital by ambulance. Their condition is not clear. The
CHP hasn't said if anyone else was in the vave,
which will be recovered today.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Daniel Martindale, Caffie News.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
The search for a baby reported missing in Ukaipa has
led investigators to a field in the bad Lands area
in Moreno Valley.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
San Bernardino County.
Speaker 7 (04:12):
Investigators spent Sunday searching near the sixty Freeway and Moreno
Valley for the body of seven month old Emmanuel Harrow.
The baby's father, j Carrow, was seen with deputies during
the hunt. He and Emmanuel's mother were arrested last week
on suspicion of murder after falsely claiming their son was kidnapped.
Harrow has a history of abuse and pleaded guilty to
child cruelty charges in twenty eighteen. After days of searching,
(04:33):
the child still hasn't been found. Brigida Degastino KFI News.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Members of a prolific burglary crew have been arrested in La.
Official say they are responsible for nearly one hundred break
ins across the city. LA's mayor and police chief and
the La County DA are set to announce the arrest
later this morning.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
Labor Day is just a week away.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Not everyone's rushing to airports to squeeze in and get away.
ABC's Faith Abu Bay says it's expected to be pretty
busy on the roads too.
Speaker 8 (05:00):
Is there about twenty cents or so cheaper than they
were this time last year, which is great news. Just
remember that the experts say that it's best for you
to leave early in the morning.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
There are a lot of people who are still leaving
by plane.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
United is expecting three million passengers to board their planes.
American says four million people will fly with them over
the Labor day weekend. Let's say good morning now to
Guy Davies with ABC in London. Guy, if the weekends
any indication, there's no real sign that Russia and Ukraine
are going to stop fighting anytime soon.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
So bring us up to speed please on what has
been happening.
Speaker 9 (05:37):
Yeah, good morning, Amy. I think these kind of nightly
daily drone attacks on Ukrainian territory are continuing. Russia's launch
more than one hundred drones into eastern and northern Ukraine,
Ukraine's airport as they normally do, saying the majority been
shot down, but it has left two people killed at
least eighteen injured. Ukraine has shown this increasing ability to
(05:59):
hit back Russian targets. There are over ninety five Ukrainian
drones shot down over Russian territory. That's according to the
Russians themselves, but that would mark one of the biggest
multi region attacks so far in this war. I mean,
on the front line, the fighting continues. I mean, there
are there's reports that Russia has captured some more territory
in the east of Ukraine. That has to be noted
that all of these military gains come at an enormous
(06:22):
human costs, and that there's been very little movement on
the front lines in recent months, no breakthrough there. But
Russia seems to look at these as steady gains. There's
kind of war of attrition that they feel like they're
winning ahead of any potential peace summit.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Okay, and guy, we'd talked to other correspondents stuff, and
they're saying that Russia appears to just be trying to
push to game ground so they can use that as
a bargaining tool and say, hey, anything we already have
we get to keep.
Speaker 9 (06:52):
Yeah, and it's not just anything they already have, they're
also demanding at these sorts of territory that they don't have.
You know that there's all kind of centers around the Dombas,
that's this industrial heartland in the east of Ukraine. Now
Russia occupies around ninety percent of one of the provinces,
lu Hans, around seventy percent of don Yez. The Dombas
has made up. Of these two territories, at the moment,
(07:13):
they show no showing no signs of kind of giving
up on their demands for the whole of that territory.
I mean, I think what we're seeing is classic delaying tactics.
From the Kremlin. I think from the White House, everything
sounded positive as a result of that meeting in Alaska
between Presidents Trump and Putin, and since then we've seen
(07:34):
the Kremlin kind of row back on the idea that
any breakthrough has been made. We've heard from the Russian
Foreign Minister saying that that basically a meeting between President
Zelenski and Putin is not on the horizon just yet,
that they want these kind of fundamental war aims, these
preconditions sold before they even moved to the next step.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Okay, so I was going to just ask you, what
do we know what might bring them to the table,
because so far as Zlenski's not saying, oh yeah, let's
give up some territory.
Speaker 9 (08:08):
Yeah, it's really difficult to know. I mean, I think
I think from the American standpoint, the idea is, you know,
perhaps there's some kind of deal to be done with Russia,
some kind of economic agreement, business agreements. I think those
leaders were present at the summit in Anchorage. I mean,
for a President Zelenski's part, he seems to think that
that there needs to be more sanctions on top of
(08:30):
this enormous sanctions regime that Russia is already facing We
actually heard from General David Petres. He's the former CIA
director and Sen Kong commander. He was on this week
with Johnathan Carl. He talks about frozen frozen Russian assets.
There's some three hundred billion dollars worth of frozen, frozen
Russian assets. He said that that that amount of money
(08:51):
should be unfrozen and given to Ukraine. I mean, it's
difficult to see you have any path forward. You have
the Europeans say that there needs to be some kindkind
of military defeat inflicted on Russia, or at least it's
kind of total isolation from the international community. The US
are intimating something different, that perhaps there needs to be
some kind of bone offered to Russia. And the Kremlins,
(09:12):
for their part, seemed to be carrying on as they were,
you know, offering the idea that they are in favor
of peace while continuing to make these these enormously costly
but steady in small incremental gains on the battlefield.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
All right, Well, hopefully we'll get some movement sometime soon,
Guy Davies, thanks for bringing us up to speed.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Thanks Amy.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
All right, let's get back to some of the stories
coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Eric
and Lyel Menandez have both been denied parole. They had
parole hearings on Thursday and Friday. Our Heather Brooker has
a closer look at what Eric had to say during
his hearing on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
I didn't think.
Speaker 10 (09:54):
Mom or Dad. I just thought I've got to get
there before my dad actually to the dead.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
That's Eric Menendez.
Speaker 11 (10:01):
That is parole hearing, talking about the night he and
his brother Lyle killed their parents back in nineteen eighty nine.
In the audio obtained by ABC seven through a public
records request, Eric describes the abuse from his father and
why he also killed his mother.
Speaker 10 (10:13):
That by step, my mother had shown that she was
united with my dad, but I still didn't believe she knew.
And when I found out that she knew, I no
longer saw him and her as different.
Speaker 11 (10:25):
Parole Board Commissioner Robert Barton explained why the board denied
his parole.
Speaker 12 (10:29):
This decision has more to do with your behavior after
your twenty sixth birthday.
Speaker 10 (10:33):
Indeed, you're intransprinal.
Speaker 11 (10:36):
Thinking and actions well beyond your twenty sixth birthday.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
And up to last year show a lack of growth
and maturity.
Speaker 11 (10:42):
Both brothers will be eligible for parole in three years,
but they can petition for an earlier hearing in one
Heather Brooker KFI News.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
The Health Ministry in Gaza says an Israeli airstrike has
hit southern Gaza's main hospital, killing nineteen people. One of
them was a freelance journalist who worked for the Association Press.
Nasir Hospital in Hanyunas is the largest in southern Gaza.
Despite a critical shortage of staff and supplies, hospital officials
in northern Gaza have also reported deaths from strikes and
(11:11):
gunfire along the route to aid sites. In previous strikes
on hospitals, Israel has claimed its attacks targeted militants operating
inside the medical facilities. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says
there are no plans for President Putin and Ukrainian President
Zelensky to meet on meet the press. Levrovs the key issues,
including security guarantees and territorial disputes, have yet to be resolved.
(11:35):
President Trump said Friday he'll know in two weeks if
he made any progress in bringing peace to Ukraine. Tech
company Intel, has added almost twenty four billion dollars to
its market value this month. Bloomberg News says the increased
value of the company, based in northern California is mainly
because of reports that Trump administration may buy an equity
state in a stake in IT, plus a two billion
(11:58):
dollar investment in IT by SOT, which is a Japanese
multinational investment holding company. Researchers say GLP one weight loss
medications like ozembic, wagovi and zepbound could also reduce the
chances of getting some cancers, but Board certified neurologists doctor
Leah Krohl says GLP one users do have a slightly
(12:20):
higher risk for some kidney cancers.
Speaker 7 (12:22):
Yes, this is a medical revolution, Yes this is exciting
and encouraging, but that doesn't mean these drugs are.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Without serious side effects and risks that have to be
taken into consideration.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
The mayor of Researchers made it clear the study does
not distinguish whether the reduced risk was due to the
drug or the actual weight loss. The Mayor of Chicago
has taken issue with reports that the Trump administration is
planning a possible military deployment in that city.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
The brave men and women who signed up to serve
our country do not sign up to occupy American cities.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Mayor Brandon Johnson says the city, state, and Cook County
are preparing for any potential unconstitutional military deployments to Chicago.
As he put it, Johnson says they are looking at
all legal options. He said the city has reduced all
forms of violent crime through constitutional policing, violence prevention, and
investing in its communities. The city has had more than
(13:17):
two hundred and fifty homicides so far this year. A
posthumous memoir by Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffrey is set
to be released in October. It's called Nobody's Girl, a
memoir of surviving abuse and fighting for justice. The book
was completed before Jeufry's death in April. The publisher described
(13:39):
it yesterday as an unsparing account of her experiences with Epstein,
Gallaine Maxwell, and others, including Britain's Prince Andrew. You know
that we love fab you listening at home or in
your car when you're out for a morning walk or workout,
and we're finding out that wake up call has not
only gone national, but Global thanks to the talk back
(14:00):
on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 13 (14:02):
Good morning, Amy, truck driving here through Oklahoma.
Speaker 9 (14:06):
Help.
Speaker 13 (14:06):
Hey Amy, David, I'm hearing likesing in Kentucky.
Speaker 10 (14:09):
Well, I guess actually technically I'm fiven to Wilmore, Kentucky
to work.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
I listened to you every.
Speaker 10 (14:15):
Day, Amy.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
My name is Scott. I've been listening to you since
you started. I'm in Clia del Carmen, Mexico. Hey, Amy,
good morning.
Speaker 9 (14:24):
It's Paul Cohen from Brisbane, Australia.
Speaker 14 (14:26):
We're listening here.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
I have a great morning. Everybody love the show.
Speaker 14 (14:30):
Hi, Amy, this is Christy.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
I'm driving through right now.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Oh have on ways.
Speaker 14 (14:36):
So you heard that I'm driving through the Alps. I'm
at the Brenner Pass right now. I'm driving from Italy
into Austria, so and then up to Germany. I lived
in Bavaria, but I'm a former I used to live
in Los Angeles. So I listening Kingfi a lot, and
I really enjoy your show and thank you for accompanying
me on my drives through the Italian Alps.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Isn't that so Fun's the Italian through the Alps. I
don't know she realized that, but she goes, oh, sorry
about that. Waves was talking to me, and I'm like
that annoying Ways voice, that annoying Ways voice.
Speaker 8 (15:06):
So that's me.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
I wonder if she knows that.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
All right, here's what we're following in the KFI twenty
four hour newsroom. Oh and before I say that, anytime
you want to weigh in on the talk back. If
you're listening on the iHeartRadio app, there's a microphone in
the upper right hand corner. Love to hear from you.
Here's what we're following. The National Weather Service says a
gradual cooling trend is expected to start today. Most valley
(15:31):
temperatures are going to drop back into the mid to
upper eighties by the end of the week. The Weather
Service is also predicting a risk of more thunderstorms through tomorrow,
especially in the mountains and deserts. President Trump has threatened
to send National Guard troops to Baltimore as part of
his national crackdown on crime. The governor of Maryland responded,
saying that there are people on the ground already doing
(15:53):
the work to actually bring down crime. Meantime, National Guard
troops deployed to d C have begun carrying weapons as
authorized by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday. K Pop
Demon Hunters is number one at the box office. The
Netflix Netflix animated Singalong features two day run in theaters,
took in eighteen million dollars. Weapons took in fifteen and
(16:15):
a half million in its third weekend of release. To
finish second, it's earned one hundred and fifteen million so far.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Six oh five.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
It's handle on the news Bill's birthday plus all the
news of the day. Let's say good morning now to
KFI national correspondent Rory O'Neil.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Morning, Rory, Hey, good morning Amy.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Okay, so we've seemed to find out about new scams
almost every week, and now the FBI has coming out
with one that we should all really pay attention to
because they're coming after our retirement.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Well exactly.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
And this is called the Phantom Hacker scam, and apparently
it's been pretty successful, swindling more than a billion dollars
in just over a year. The tactics are different, but
essentially the warning is the same. It involves clicking on
links that we be clicking on, or answering phone calls
we should probably just hang up on. But they are
(17:05):
using this three step approach, either through a kind of
link that gets remote control of your computer, then someone
will pretend to be with your financial institution. Finally someone
pretends to be with the government, and one, two three
suddenly all of your retirement savings are gone. So the advice, though,
is the same. Don't click on links you don't recognize,
(17:27):
and when people call with this stuff, just hang up.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Okay, So that's the best thing.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
But you know, I understand why people get sucked in,
especially if like somebody said, hey, we're calling from your bank,
because what would happen if something happened to your accounts?
Speaker 4 (17:43):
How do you get notified by your bank? Do we
know that for sure?
Speaker 5 (17:48):
Well?
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Some of the best things This is interesting because what's
happening with this scam in particular is they're also using
AI to scrub the internet to find out information about you.
So if on your Facebook page, say, for instance, you
like your bank. It's not uncommon, but that's a pretty
good indication of who your bank is. So now they
know who to impersonate as the banker just because you
(18:11):
like or follow your bank. So be careful with those
simple things, and that's how they can get in. They
even use AI to follow some of your interests and say, oh,
you like baseball cards, Hey, I have a valuable hank
errand card I want to be selling. Click on the
link and you can see a picture of the hank
Aaron card I'm selling.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
There you go again.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
And so it is difficult, but you'll always try to
go back to those home sites, their or their apps
in particular, rather than clicking through a link that you're sent.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
If the bank is trying to send you a message,
they'll message.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
You through their app or through their website. They'll send
a message directly, and you can log onto that directly.
And finally, just communicate among the family members. You know,
even the teenagers should be made aware of this stuff,
but make sure the older folks in the family know
that they can feel free. Don't be embarrassed by saying, hey,
I think this might be a scam, or ask questions,
(19:02):
because when everyone talks about it and then then suddenly
the light bulb seems to come on for everyone involved, like, oh,
that's just a scammer.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
And the other thing that you were talking to about,
like the getting the fake phone calls and the fake emails.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
The one thing that I think that we've.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Talked about before, and I think probably a good reminder
is if you get a phone call from somebody and
they're saying, hey, you know, we need to verify your
bank information on all this stuff because somebody's trying to
hack it is hang up and you call them, go
to their website, get their phone number, don't write because
the phone number that they're calling from is probably fake.
(19:37):
Or even if they leave a message and leave a
phone number, it's probably not a bank.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
And I would say, don't redial or dial back that
same number they called on. You go to the website
or look at the number on that's printed on the
back of your credit card to get that eight hundred
number to say, hey, I just got a call.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
It was this really you or that kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
But if you and if you don't have your bank's number,
look on the your bank's website, go directly to it,
or go to the bank branch.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
So as always, like I said, it seems like we
get a new scam every week, and we want to
share them with you on wake up call because they
do at the surface, they look legitimate or they feel legitimate.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
You gotta really be careful.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
It's a movie target, so well. Always got to stay
right on top of them.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
All right.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Kfi's national correspondent Rory O'Neil, thanks so much for the
info and the warning.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Thanks Amy, all right, take care.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Police in La are trying to find whomever shot a
woman on a metrobus.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
The man is accused of shooting an eighteen year old
woman's death late Friday night following an argument. The LAPD
says the woman was shot after intervening in an argument
between the shooter and her boyfriend. The woman was rushed
to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Daniel Martindale
KFI News.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Santa Monica is losing its police chief, Jeef Ramon Bautista,
is resigning effective October fourth. Batista became chief in twenty
twenty one following criticism of the city's police department over
its response to the rights that broke out during protests
over George Floyd's murder in Minneapolis. Plans for as successor
(21:09):
are not immediately known. A former bank manager in La
has been accused of ripping off customers.
Speaker 7 (21:14):
Federal prosecutors say thirty nine year old wags In Tony
Chen faces bank fraud and identity theft charges. The FBI
says he managed Kartha Bank branches in Arcadia and the
City of Industry, where he allegedly opened fake accounts in
customers' names and funneled money into his own. He's charged
with five counts of fraud and other federal crimes. Brigida
Degostino KFI News.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
A survey none for The La Times shows most people
in California are against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement policies.
The online survey was done by u C. Berkeley's Institute
of Governmental Studies. It shows sixty nine percent of people
who responded say they are against the ice raids that
have been happening in La. Of Democrat voters, ninety one
(21:55):
percent say they get enraged by them. Sixty five percent
of Republicans say they feel justice is finally being served.
Redistricting is taking on a different look this year. It's
usually done every ten years based on the census, but
California has just drawn up new maps with five new
Democratic leading districts that voters need to approve in November.
Governor Newsom says it's in response to the redistricting in
(22:17):
Texas that favors Republicans, but ABC's Recline says it has
more challenges for Democratic states.
Speaker 12 (22:23):
Bottom line, it is advantage GOP. There are just more
opportunities in places like Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Florida than
there are in some of the big blue states like
Illinois and Maryland.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
He said.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Based on that, it looks like Republicans will be able
to benefit. Home buying contracts in the US were canceled
at a record rate last month. Analysis by Redfinn shows
fifty eight thousand homes that were under contract fell through
in July. That's the highest number for a July since
twenty seventeen. One associate brokers as buyers are having economic nausea,
(22:54):
or in other words, they're feeling queasy about the market.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
SpaceX has scrubbed its launch of.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
The super heavy Starship rocket. Launch was supposed to happen
yesterday afternoon, but it was called off at the last minute.
SpaceX has yet to successfully complete a mission for the Starship.
It'll eventually be a fully reusable rocket able to carry
up to one hundred people to deep space destinations. The
(23:21):
father of the seven month old whose mother claimed he
was kidnapped from a Big Five parking lot in u
Kaipa has been helping authorities search for his remains. Jake
Harrow was out with the Sheriff's deputies yesterday searching through
a field near the sixty Freeway in Moreno Valley in
the Badlands area. Harrow and his wife were arrested on
suspicion of murder Friday. Its iPhone to the rescue. A
(23:44):
person's iPhone sent an emergency text to CHP. Yesterday, they
responded to the Angelus Crest Highway near Altadena and found
a car that had crashed one thousand feet down an
embankment near the Strawberry Park Trail. The driver was rescued
and taken to the hospital. The car's going to be
recovered today. Three quarters of a billion dollars is up
(24:04):
for grabs tonight. There were no jackpot winners from Saturday
night's Powerball drawing, so the jackpot tonight is up to
seven hundred and fifty million dollars at six so five.
It's handle on the news. Trump loses one when it
comes to defunding LA Bill's going to tell you about that.
Let's get back to some of the stories out of
the KFI twenty four Hour Newsroom. The son of former
(24:26):
UFC champion Quentin Rampage Jackson, has been accused of assaulting
a pro wrestler in the Valley. Raja Jackson, also a
pro MMA fighter, is accused of attacking wrestler Psycho Stu
and an event in sun Valley on Saturday night. So
there's video showing Jackson throwing Smith to the mat, straddling him,
(24:46):
and then repeatedly punching him in the face and on
the side of the head as Stu lies there motionless.
Jackson was restrained by other wrestlers. The organizers of the
event say it happened during the scripted part of the show,
but his violence went way too far. In a post
on X Rampage, Jackson says he does not condone his
son's actions. Belisa are investigating the shooting death of a
(25:10):
thirteen year old boy at a gas station in Pico Rivera,
La County Sheriff's Department says it happened shortly before midnight
on Saturday. The boy was apparently waiting for a family
member to finish a shift at a nearby gas station
when someone walked up and shot him, then ran off.
As already say this shooting was not connected to another
homicide that happened about two miles down the road at
(25:31):
a different gas station in Pico Rivera. On Friday, an
animal control officer in Beaumont's been accused of getting too
rough with a young.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Dog an animal like that.
Speaker 11 (25:41):
Nikki Thompson captured the now viral video showing a Beaumont
animal control officer getting rough with a dog who wandered
onto her business. She says the young dog was friendly
and she gave it food and water while waiting for
help to arrive, but when he got there, she says
he made upsetting remarks.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
About the dog.
Speaker 11 (25:56):
Video shows the officer dragging, lifting, and throwing the dog
in to a vehicle with a control poll.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
The way you're.
Speaker 13 (26:02):
Speaking to you mean and talking about the animal, you
should get a different job.
Speaker 11 (26:07):
Beaumont Pete has not responded to our request for an
update how the brokerup kf I.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
News brokers and experts say health insurance is going to
get more expensive in twenty twenty six, Oh goodie, and
some coverage may shrink. They say price changes could be
especially stark in individual coverage marketplaces, where insurers are predicting
the end of some government subsidies that help people buy coverage.
A new survey shows Americans may be overly optimistic about
(26:34):
money milestones. The retirement Firm and Power found most people
think they'll buy a home at thirty, earn six figures
by thirty five, yeah, be debt free at forty one,
and then retire at fifty eight. That's about ten years
earlier than average. Nearly half wish they had started saving sooner,
including yours truly, and a quarter already feel behind. Well,
(26:57):
we started talking about money, so let's keep with it.
Time to get in your business with Bloomberg's Courtney Donaho Morning, Courtney,
good morning.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Okay, so you went to Florida. Did you go to
the to my favorite place?
Speaker 13 (27:10):
Well, I ended up going to Fort Lauderdale. I wish
I was going to Disney.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
It's okay, but it was a lot of fun.
Speaker 13 (27:18):
We ended up my children and I went with my mom.
So we had such a great time together.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
We have lots of.
Speaker 13 (27:24):
Yeah, lots of pool time, gorgeous weather almost every single
day that we were down there.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
And it's funny.
Speaker 13 (27:30):
Most people say, hey, Florida's got lots of humidity, but
it's just a lot here in New York, so it
didn't really matter.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Okay, Well, yeah, let's talk about the money stuff, because
that matters.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
So we've got a big test on the way for
Wall Street this week. What's up? Oh, no doubt about it.
Speaker 13 (27:45):
We have chip joint NVIDIAs such rapport quarterly earnings coming
up this Wednesday. It is going to be a major event.
The company's position at the center of artificial intelligence makes
its results really a pulse check for tech tiest chips
are everywhere. Forty percent of its revenue is from Meta
that's a Facebook parent, Microsoft, Google parent, Alphabet and Amazon.
(28:06):
So it's a big company. It's the biggest weight in
the S and P five hundred at almost eight percent,
so it can really move the markets.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Okay, And speaking of moving, Intel's moving higher way.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (28:19):
So President Trump sealed the deal over the weekend that
gives the government to nearly ten percent stake in the
chip maker. This is unheard of, this type of deal.
It's such an unconventional bid. It's hopefully to reinvigorate the
company but also boost chip manufacturing here in the US.
The Administration sees semiconductor production as a matter of national security.
(28:39):
And Intel is one of a small number of companies
here in the US capable of making chips at scale
on domestic soil.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Okay, so the government is actually buying stock in Intel.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 13 (28:51):
It is buying shares in Intel. So about four hundred
and thirty three million shares of its common stock. That's
about close to ten percent, nine point nine percent.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
So yeah, it's just.
Speaker 13 (29:03):
It's something that is pretty much unheard of at this point,
where the US taking partial ownership. I mean, it's a
stunning level of intervention in an American company.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
And but even like you think about it, if the
government needs money and they make good investments.
Speaker 13 (29:20):
Yes, they can make money up exactly coming back, and
we need it, and they believe Intel's going.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
To do it.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
All right, Well we'll have to wait and see. Okay.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
So people are leaving the office earlier than they did
before the pandemic.
Speaker 13 (29:31):
Yes, However, commercial real estate firm jail El says, we're
coming into the office around the same time as we
always did. We want to impress the boss in some
sort of way. The Wall Street Journal, and they're usually
early birds. The Wall Street Journal reports that many of
us are logging back in from home in the evening.
So even though we're leaving early, we're not really slacking off.
(29:51):
And if you sneak out, I won't tell. Maybe the
listeners would notice, but I won't say anything.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
All right.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
The Weekend is looking to make some cash from his
lovely songs.
Speaker 13 (30:02):
Oh yes, he is in talks, said to be in
talks to raise about a billion dollars of financing back
by his music rights. So sources tell us he would
use the stake in his music publishing rights as collateral
in one scenario that's being considered. So if it goes through,
it would be among the largest ever in the music
rights space. Now, it's going to be a little bit
different than what we see with older and deceased startists
(30:24):
that's accounted for many of the biggest catalog sales. This
wouldn't be an outright sale, but younger acts like we've
seen with Justin Bieber, John Legend, they've used their catalogs
to kind of ask collateral to raise money for new
business ventures, but also to fund their lifestyle a little bit.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Okay, and what are we looking for in stocks this morning?
Speaker 13 (30:44):
Yeah, so we're edging lower this morning on Friday, the
Dow jumped eight hundred and forty six points. We hit
a record fed Chair J. Powell signal the Central Bank
is headed for an interest rate cut next month. That
really powered the markets along. But this morning we are
seeing now features down on hundred forty five points.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Well that's a bummer, but we're still you know, at
forty five thousand, six'.
Speaker 13 (31:04):
Ten so, Yes AND i, mean when you think about,
it the doubt the markets are our record, levels so
and record levels despite all of the things that have
been going on within, tariffs look at what has been
happening with the labor. Market we've had lots of questions
about the future of the, economy but stocks are still chugging.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Along all, Right we'll see what they do today and
we'll check in with you tomorrow getting in your business
like we do every day With Bloomberg's Courtney.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Donaho, thanks see you, later all, right my how time.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Flies hope you're getting your day started great and we
are thrilled that you were with. Us AND i mentioned

wake up call has gone, global and we're finding out
about that because of the talkback on the iHeartRadio app

Pm thank You, Sydney. Australia how. FUN i love that
told you wake up? Call it gone.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Global here's what we're following in THE kfi twenty four hour.
Newsroom police are looking for a man who's shot and
killed a woman on a metro bus In. Westchester the
man shot the eighteen year old woman Late friday night
following an. Argument THE lapd says the woman had tried
to intervene and stop the argument between the shooter and
her boyfriend when she got. Shot the woman was taken
to the hospital where she was pronounced. Dead Walking Dead
(32:33):
Star Norman ritus's son has been charged with assaulting his
girlfriend In New york For prosecutors say he, beat, kicked
and choked his thirty three year old. Girlfriend he had
called nine one one saying that his girlfriend was suicidal
after he broke up with. Her and that she had
taken a bunch of. Pills he was arrested when police showed.
Up he was charged in twenty twenty two for punching a.
(32:55):
Woman it's beginning to look a lot Like fall At.
Starbucks the coffe giant's going to offer it's pumpkin spice
latte starting. Tomorrow that's the latest the Popular fall drink
has gone on sale since twenty twenty. Two still seems
a little early to, me but that's. Okay we're just
minutes away From handle on the news this. Morning National
(33:17):
guard members are now packing IN. Dc bill's going to
talk about. That but right, now let's say good morning
to ABC's Peter harlambus, Morning.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Peter good, Morning thanks much for having, Me.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Thanks for coming.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
On Jeffrey epstein's former right hand, woman so to, speak
met last month with The Deputy Attorney, general and now
we know what she.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
Said so what'd she?
Speaker 5 (33:39):
Say, yeah in a, way we got to hear it
with our own, words and it's creating more questions than.
Answered we were able to hear about how she Believed
President trump did nothing, wrong How Bill clinton similarly did nothing,
wrong and how she denied the existence of a so
Called epstein client. List it's interesting to see this the recordings,
(34:00):
released you get to hear her kind of explain all
of this stuff in a way that some of the
victims of her crimes are calling a rewriting of. History
this is someone who The department Of justice has called
an avowed liar and someone who's been charged with. Perjury
so at this, point there were kind of outstanding questions
about why this interview took place and what she And
trump might get out of.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
It, Okay so then going, back she from the little
pieces THAT i, heard she didn't seem to say anything
that would Put President trump in a bad position or
a bad. Light but then he also, said, Yeah Bill
clinton didn't go to the. ISLAND i thought that we
knew that he.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Did, Yeah that's where it gets a bit. CONFUSING i,
mean she basically vindicated, everyone and she did this without
providing any particular evidence to suggest that this was. True
she named a number of high profile, individuals basically clearing
them of. Anything in her, words she Said Donald trump
was quote a gentleman in all, respects never did anything. Inappropriate,
(34:57):
clinton she, said was a quote truly extraordinary. Man he,
too did nothing. Inappropriate and Even Prince, andrew someone who
has been under fire at this point for years for
her alleged relationship With Virginia dreuwfrey when she was a.
Minor maxwell in this case said that that entire allegation
was quote manufactured and said that she never set up
(35:18):
And Prince andrew with any underage.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Women Prince andrew with underage women aren't, There.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
That's exactly, right she. Claimed she claimed that was a
quote fake. Photo BUT i think it's worth noting that
that photo itself is kind of has existed on the,
record has been kind of established as fact at this
point for, years Showing Prince andrew and a seventeen year
Old virginia Dreuw frey together ahead of what was allegedly
(35:46):
kind of a night out In. London so, AGAIN i
think it's hard to look at all this information and
say it provides much value when you consider the fact
that it's not like she came into this interview with
a ton of evidence that supports each of her, claims
and she's someone that has shoes with her credibility and
has those has had those problems for.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Years, yeah and So peter then from listening to the.
Interview did they release excerpts of it or they did
they do the whole.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Thing to The department Of justice, credit they did release
majority of. It there were some parts of it that were.
Redacted there appear to have been some minor, gaps but
as a, whole it seems to be a somewhat completely
unedited version of this, interview with the exception of redactions
for names that were kind of protected for. Sensitivity so
(36:34):
to their, credit that informasion came. Out we got, transcripts
we got the audio recordings from this two day, interview
and all of, this according to The department Of, justice
is kind of a new way of fact, finding a
way they claimed That maxwell was never truly interviewed by
The department Of justice and that this is a way
to bring new light on this. Case, well it's worth
noting that the victims in this case are kind of
(36:55):
calling this out as kind of an extra judicial, way
a potential political pay for, play and an example here
of you, Know maxwell being rewarded for allegedly providing false
testimony in their, words.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
And being rewarded by being moved to a different.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
Facility, yeah that's exactly. Right she's been moved to a
significantly more cushy facility and beyond Met trump at this
point has refused to rule out Pardoning. Maxwell this is
someone who's been serving out a twenty year prison sentence
for facilitating the abuse of minors and basically the idea
that a pardon or commutation is still on the table
(37:32):
is kind of unfathomable for a lot of these.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Victims oh, So trump has hinted that he would pardon
her or might pardon.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
Her he said he has the power to do, so
and when pressed by journalists about whether or not he
would do, it he refused to take it off the.
Table so any immediate that's. Right so he's basically saying
it's still an option for him and he's not ruling it.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Out.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
Okay and then one other question about the Interview peter,
is did Ag blanche just ask a question and let her?
Speaker 4 (38:06):
Go did he challenge, her, like you know when.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
She, said oh, Yeah Prince andrew didn't do anything And
Bill clinton was never on the.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Plane did they say but we know that they?
Speaker 5 (38:15):
WERE i, mean it wasn't it parsually hostile or aggressive?
Interview Todd blanche over the course of this interview kind
of was kind of encouraging her to be, comfortable to be,
truthful and occasionally pushed, back but in a way, that you,
know kind Of for, example if we use the example
of When maxwell suggested she didn't believe That Jeffrey epstein committed,
(38:36):
suicide something that long year's long A Departner justice investigation
koms would did, happen she basically said that she just
doesn't believe it. Happened and when pushed By todd blanch
when he, said how do you know, that why do
you say, that she basically just said she has no evidence,
here but you, know she's just heard about how in
the prison system you can pay twenty five dollars allegedly
(38:56):
to have someone else, killed which again is something she's
just claiming in her own. Experience she's not coming in
here kind of with a ton of, documents with a
ton of records to point all these things. Out she's
basically getting the opportunity to say these things with relatively little.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
Pushback all, right, well interesting to see if anything else,
happens because it's, Like, okay well we have her, testimony
and it is The department Of justice releasing more of
The epstein files To.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
Congress, right we understand that they've turned over about one
hundred thousand, records ninety seven percent of them according to
the Top House democrat on That House Oversight, committee exist
documents that already exist in the public, records so really
questionable what new information might come out of, Them and
politically speaking For, trump The Department justice at this point
(39:42):
is saying they're not going to release any additional records
to the. Public and the kind of the look That
trump got out of this is, that according To, maxwell
he was a quote gentleman in all, respects and that
he had an extraordinary achievement in becoming. President only positive
things to say about the, president and in a way
that victims are looking at this and saying seems to
just be an attempt her to get a pardon and
(40:02):
clean up a bit of the political damage for the.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
President, Okay Peter harrolomos will continue to watch and see
if we learn anything that's worth learning.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
About doesn't seem like we really did this. One Thanks.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Peter let's get back to some of the stories coming
out of THE kfi twenty four hour. Newsroom Kilmar Abrego
garcia has arrived outside Of. Baltimore immigration office and has
