Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call
with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
KFI and KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King.
Good morning. This is your wake up call for Wednesday,
September twenty fourth. It's five o'clock, straight up. I'm Amy King.
(00:40):
Thanks so much for starting your day with us. Okay,
so we've talked about morning routines. Before you know, you
do your thing, You get your coffee, you get your
and one of the things that I do right before
I go on the air is I go and heat
up my breakfast because I know that if by six
o'clock I haven't started putting food in my mouth, my
brain gets even more scattered the normal. So I go
(01:02):
into the kitchen this morning, and you everybody's like talking
about waste and cutting down our carbon footprint and banning
plastic straws. Here's a little the cheapest plastic spoon in America,
wrapped in plastic. Come on, it's just wasteful, it's sterile.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
You don't know where that spood's been.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
That's ridiculous. Will this is ridiculous. And then I use
the spoon put it in my hot oatmeal. I think
the spoon melted. It is a cheap, cheap, plastic spoon. Okay,
got that up my chest. All right, here's what's ahead
on Wake Up Called. Jimmy Kimmel has made an emotional
return to his ABC late night show following a nearly
(01:49):
week long suspension. In his opening monologue, he said his
show isn't important, but what is important, in his words,
is that we get to live in a country that
allows us to have a show like this. Dozens of
affiliate stations chose to preempt the show last night. The
city of Englewood's going to pay twenty five million dollars
to a man who spent more than thirty eight years
in prison for a murder and sexual assault he didn't commit.
(02:13):
Can you even imagine? Morris Hastings is now seventy two.
He was released in October of twenty twenty two after
DNA proved someone else committed the murder. His attorneys say
it's the largest ever wrongful conviction settlement in California. Electronic
balls and strike calls are making their way to the
big leagues. Major League Baseball announced that its ABS system
will be implemented next season. It's been used in the
(02:36):
minor leagues for a few years and was in Major
League spring training games this year. Hey, President Trump seems
to have done sort of an about face when it
comes to the Russia Ukraine war. ABC's Karen Travers is
going to join us in just a couple of minutes
to tell us about what came out of Trump's sit
down with Ukrainian President Zelenski yesterday at the UN General Assembly.
Disney's following suit with other streaming services YEP raise prices again.
(03:01):
Rich Demiro is going to join us to talk about
the rising cost of streaming subscriptions and what some of
your options are. Plus, those new iPhone airs look pretty cool,
but you're like, are they sturdy? Are they strong? Are
they going to break? Are they gonna bend? How tough
are they? Rich is gonna tell us, and also go
in high tech to get your kids to go to
school and do their home work. Rich will join us
(03:24):
at five twenty to tell us the latest on that
Amy's on it. Normally I'm not a huge fan of
this type of show, but this one will leave you
in stitches. Coming up at the bottom of the hour
plus two days until I go over the Edge to
raise money for the Union Rescue Mission and its efforts
to get people off the street and back on their feet.
(03:45):
And I need your help. I'm going to tell you
more about that coming up. Also, where do you find
a mate? Do you go to a dating site, a bar, church, parties.
We're gonna go old school to find out. Coming up
before the top of the hour, let's get started with
some of the stories coming out of the kf hour newsroom.
I'm happy to be here tonight with you. Jimmy Kimmel
has addressed the assassination of Charlie Kirk as he returned
(04:07):
to Late night TV following a suspension. He didn't apologize
for what he said that got him taken off the air,
but he did get emotional when he said he never
intended to make light of the murder of a young man.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
And anything unny about it.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I posted a message on Instagram of the daves killed,
sending love to his family and asking for compassion, and
I meant it.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
I still do.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Kimmel also defended free speech in the US. Police in
Placentia of arrested the mother of a two year old
boy who allegedly drowned while taking a bath. Paramedics were
called to the family's home Monday night, but police said
the boy apparently died hours earlier. Lieutenant Joe Connell says
the mom reported leaving the boy in the bath for
a couple of minutes, then finding him face down in
(04:48):
the water.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
The mother began CPR, and when she determined that her
CPR was ineffective, the mother harmed herself with a sharp object.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
He says. The woman held the child in the bath
room for about six hours and didn't tell anyone what happened.
A family member eventually found them. Nurses at Kaiser Permanente
have been on the picket lines across California. They claim
the company isn't providing adequate staffing or resources. Nurse Lynn
tyrona picketing and Sacramento, says she and her colleagues have
been asking for help for a while now.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Us nurses, especially at the bed signer at the clinics,
we have seen chronic understaffing for a while. It's been
a while since we have been voicing our concerns.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Kaiser disputes the nurses claims, saying meets or exceeds staffing regulations.
A new study shows LA ranks way down on the
list of cities in the US that are women friendly.
The personal finance company wallet Hub released the report on
the Best and Worst Cities for Women in twenty twenty five.
LA comes in at number ninety nine. The study ranks
(05:52):
cities where women are most likely to thrive in terms
of economic opportunity, healthcare access, and personal safety. Columbia, Maryland
was number one. San Francisco eleventh on the list. Time
to say good morning to ABC's Karen Travers. So, Karen,
President Trump seems to kind of done an about face
when it comes to the Russia Ukraine war and which
(06:14):
side he's favoring. So what came out of the meeting
between Trump and Ukraine's President's Olinska at the General Assembly yesterday.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
Yeah, this was a big shift yesterday from the President.
He's now saying he believes Ukraine can win back the
land that Russia has taken during this three and a
half year war.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
He said, let.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
Them get their land back. We'll see how it all
works out. This is not land swaths for a peace
deal as the President was pushing as recently as just
a couple of weeks ago. It was minutes after he
met with President Zelinsky where the President wrote on social
media that he thinks Ukraine, with the support of the
European Union, is in a position to fight and win
(06:53):
all of Ukraine back in its original form. And again
it's a major shift from the President saying that Ukraine
has to releuish the territory that's been occupied by Russia.
He's been saying that August months back in August when
he met with Putin, he said birth countries would have
to give up land to end the conflict and get
Putin to agree to a peace deal. But you know
(07:14):
the Ukraine right now, twenty percent of Ukraine is occupied
by Russia. Ukraine doesn't have a lot of Russian territory
in their possession to like trade. So even the idea
of land swaps isn't really an accurate way to look
at how this could have been worked out. What sparked
all of this that is not clear. Even Zelensky was
surprised by this. After the president put this on social
(07:35):
media and spoke about it during a meeting with the
French President Emmanuel Macrone, he was very happy about it.
But certainly seemed surprised, and he said it was a big,
big shift that the president had posted on social media
that he believes Russia's economy is in trouble and that
there's an opportunity now for Ukraine to act and.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Playing armchair quarterback. I mean, do you think that it's
because Putin had said, yeah, we're going to move ahead,
We're gonna sit down and have talks, and I you know,
maybe Trump just feels like Putin has lied to him
and he didn't, you know how he doesn't like that possible.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
You know, the President has set many deadlines though for
Putin to do things, and that has not been met.
I mean, we had a list of at least half
a dozen where the President set a timeline for something
to happen, only to not follow through on that too.
Whether now the frustration has hit a new point. Perhaps
Russia has of course increased its aggression since the meeting
(08:32):
with the President in Alaska. You know, flying drones over
poland sending fighter dress over Estonia. These are all really
significant steps, and that indicating you know, that Russia has
not not only not changed course, but doesn't seem to
be backing down in any way by any perceived pressure
from the West.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Okay, and then, Karen, just one quick question before you go.
In his address yesterday, Trump was talking about how the
UN countries need to stop selling oil that would help
give them leverage and negotiating some sort of a peace deal.
Is there any indication that any of those countries are
agreeing to that.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
He's saying that European countries should stop buying oil from Russia.
They have, I mean most of them did three and
a half years ago. The countries that are still doing that,
it's Turkey, Hungary, and Slovakia Free countries. The President has
very good relations with those leaders. He's actually meeting with
President Erdowan tomorrow of Turkey at the White House. There
is no indication those countries are going to do it
(09:32):
because of the economic ties they have to Russia. But
we'll see if the President puts pressure on him tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
All Right, ABC's Karen Travers at the White House. Thank
you so much.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
All right, let's get back to some of the stories
coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The
man charged in Florida with trying to assassinate President Trump
has stabbed himself with a pen in court after he
was found guilty on all charges. Peter Harralumbus says court
officers stepped in yesterday and stopped Ryan Ruth took just
two hours to convict Ruth on all counts.
Speaker 7 (10:02):
They rejected his defense that he never intended to kill Trump,
despite Ruth hiding in the bushes of Trump's golf course.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
With a rifle. Prosecutors argued Ruth was lying in wait
to kill Trump as he played golf at Trump International
Golf Club near mar A Lago. Ruth acted as his
own lawyer. World leaders and diplomats are tackling AI at
the United Nations Annual High Level Meeting.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Since chat GPT's debut three years ago, AI's rapid development
has amazed many, but experts warn of risks like engineered
pandemics and disinformation. The UN General Assembly recently adopted a
resolution to create two key bodies on AI, a global
forum and an independent scientific panel. The Global Dialogue on
AI Governance will launch on Thursday. Experts, including those from
(10:46):
Open AI and Google, urge governments to establish red lines
for AI, similar to treaties on nuclear testing and biological weapons.
Mark ronnor KFI News Department of.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Homeland Security Secretary Christy Nome says a recent post from
Governor Newsom's office panicked her family and friends. The post
on x Saturday said Nome is going to have a
bad day today. You're welcome America. During an interview, Nome
called the post menacing and said cartels and criminals have
threatened her and her family before. Other Trump administration IF
(11:18):
officials also criticized the post. A woman from Missouri has
been sentenced in a fraud scheme to try to sell Graceland.
The ABC's Michelle Friends And says the woman pleaded guilty.
Speaker 8 (11:27):
Prosecutors say Lisa Finley made a brazen attempt to fraudulently
put Elvis Presley's Graceland estate up for auction last year.
No members of the Presley family were present during the hearing.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Prosecutors say Finley forged the signatures of Elvis Presley's late daughter,
Lisa Marie and a notary to claim Lisa Marie Presley
did not pay back a three point eight million dollar
loan and that Graceland was collateral. Finley was sentenced yesterday
to nearly five years in federal prison. Scientists have discovered
the fossil of a new dinosaur from Argentina with US
(12:00):
crocodile bone in its mouth.
Speaker 9 (12:01):
The dinosaur may have used its long arms and claws
to capture prey. Researchers say it was possibly twenty three
feet long. Most of the fossils of the predators are
fragments in the new study. Researchers say the uncovered part
of his skull, as well as arm, leg and tailbones
from a rock formation in Argentina. The discovery could help
scientists understand how these creatures fed and where they fall
(12:22):
on the evolutionary timeline. The research was published yesterday in
the journal Nature Communications. Deborah mark KFFI News, I love
dinosaur stuff.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Hey, yesterday we were talking about Catherine Spees. She was
chosen for the new class of NASA astronaut candidates, and
she got her undergrad at USC and then she got
her master's from Harvard. But our own Will made a
really nasty little comment about her because apparently he's a
USC hater. I'm a UCLA lover. You're a wait, you're
(12:54):
a USC hater. I'm a UCLA lover. You're a UCLA lover. Okay, Well,
apparently he's not alone. In being a used as the hater.
This guy weighed in on talking about on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Amy, if you ever go to USC, did you ever
notice that most of the students are where sandals or crocs.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
It's because the university doesn't teach them how to tie
his shoes to.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Their senior year.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, and that wasn't enough, because then he called.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Back, No, Amy, did you hear about the USC football
team this year? They don't have ice cubes for the
football players. It's because the guy with the recipe got arrested.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Wow, you know that's only going to invite an avalanche
of responses.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Well, if you have something to say, it's on the
iHeartRadio app on the Little Talkback. One of the main
roads into Big Bear remains closed indefinitely after a portion
of the roadway washed away in the big storm that
rolled through last week. Highway thirty eight connects Redlands to
Big Bear. Heavy rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm
Mario caused a section of the highway to collapse down
(13:54):
a mountain side. Yeah. We got up the mountain about
two hours before that storm hit. Some people on the
highway who were stuck for like twelve hours like a
dozen cars just stuck there in between two slides. Had
to have been very nerve wracking. A twenty seven year
old man has been charged with killing his ex roommate's
dog during a break in in West Hollywood. Police say
(14:17):
an mal batia broke into the home on Harper Avenue
September fourth. Security video shows a man attacking and beating
the dog to death. He's also charged with burglary and vandalism.
He's expected to be rained today. If you're planning to
go to Coachella in twenty twenty six, you better have
already bought your tickets. It's sold out. The preliminary lineup
(14:37):
was just announced less than a week ago and didn't
take long for those tickets to get snapped up. Headlining
artists include Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Carol che Of course,
Jimmy Kimmel has returned to television with an emotional monologue
started out Neil Savader's in for Bill Handle Today, He's
going to tell you more about that. Let's say good
(14:59):
morning now too. Rich DeMuro, the host of Rich on
Tech right Here on KFI, also KTLA's Tech Reporter Morning.
Speaker 7 (15:05):
Rich, Good morning to you Amy.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Okay, so we've been talking about this. We've got a
price hike coming for Disney Plus. It seems like these
price hikes on these streaming services are happening every other day.
Speaker 7 (15:18):
Yeah, it's really wild. It just seems like this is
the trend. Every streaming service is raising prices. It seems
this time Disney Plus up about two to three dollars
across most of their plans starting October twenty first. So
if you're on the standard ad supported Disney Plus, that's
going from ten dollars to twelve dollars. The premium no
(15:39):
ads version goes from nineteen sorry, goes to nineteen dollars
or one hundred and ninety for the year. So yeah,
I think I paid one forty one fifty last year
for that, So yeah, this is really a big change.
And then of course all the bundles are getting price
increases too. So the last time they raised prices was
(15:59):
an oct Over twenty twenty four, So now it's like, okay,
are we talking annual price hikes at this point?
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I don't know. All I know is streaming was supposed
to be a less expensive alternative, and I checked my
credit card bill for all my streaming monthly charges. It's
more expensive than my cable was.
Speaker 7 (16:19):
Yeah, cable was all in one, and now I will
tell you you did not get as much flexibility with
your cable package as you do with these packages, because
you get I'm on your phone, you can I'm on
your tablet, you can start, you can stop. So we
definitely have more flexibility. But the reality is these prices
just keep going up and it's just like a little
it's enough where you're like, okay, I'm not going to
(16:40):
cancel it for this necessarily, but it's just kind of
a little bit more every year.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Okay. So the iPhone Air, which we've been talking about,
You've been talking about it quite a bit, is out
and we're like, okay, it's very cool, but how strong
is it? So it's being put to the test.
Speaker 7 (16:57):
Yeah, apparently it's very strong.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Now.
Speaker 7 (16:59):
I saw Apple in their facilities how they test these things,
and they did bring up the iPhone Air and they
showed us how they test it with these machines where
they put it in the middle and have this thing
just kind of pushed down on it and it measures
the pressure. And I of course bent it myself to
see how much I could put on it. I was
only up to about seventy five pounds I think. But
All State, you know, they put out these tests, these
(17:21):
bendability tests every year because they make insurance for phones,
and they said the iPhone Air can take one hundred
and ninety pounds of pressure before bending, which almost matches
the iPhone seventeen Pro, which can go two hundred pounds.
So that, in my book, is pretty good. The iPhone
six if you remember bend Gate from many years ago,
(17:42):
that only handled one hundred and ten pounds, so these
new phones are way tougher. The problem is gravity is
still the biggest issue you are up against. If you
drop these things face down from six feet. Both of these,
the iPhone Air and the seventeen Pro, completely shattered their
front screens on the first drop.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
That's why you get a cover.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
Yeah, I mean, I look, I've been using the iPhone
seventeen promacs and without a case for like two weeks,
and it's it's been pretty good. I even dropped on
a concrete floor to show someone how good it was
and it didn't even get a scratch.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
That's gutsy.
Speaker 7 (18:18):
That was gutsy. I will admit that was a little gutsy.
I probably shouldn't have done that.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Okay, there's all kinds of prepaid services now, and we
can add Uber to that list.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
Yeah. So Uber is trying to basically make people take
their service regularly, right like instead of a bus, instead
of a whatever they might do. And so now you
can buy bulk ride bundles of five, ten, fifteen, or
twenty trips and get a discount ranging from five percent
to twenty percent. So the idea is if you take
(18:48):
the same route every day, you can plan for that
route and say, Okay, this this costs me seven dollars
a day versus some days it's really expensive, other days
it's really cheap. I take Uber a lot, and you
just cannot predict what that trip is going to cost,
especially when I'm in New York City and I'm taking
rides to the airport or just around town. Sometimes trips
(19:10):
are so cheap I don't even understand how they stay
in business. Other Times I'm like, this is so expensive,
what's going on here? So this is available in Los Angeles,
and yeah, check it out inside the app.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Okay, and then I this is an interesting one because
getting kids motivated to go to school, do their homework.
Maybe they need a little they need a little reward program.
They need somebody to dangle a carrot. And there's a
there's a learn to Earn app that does that.
Speaker 7 (19:41):
Yeah, and you know, look, teachers have been rewarding students
and classrooms for a long time. This is a platform
that sort of takes that and standardizes it across the nation.
It's called Knowledge Know l e J created by a
guys here in Los Angeles. I know, I'm glad you
picked up on that because I was doing this story.
(20:02):
I'm like, wait a second, like kind of I mean,
I know that all these startups are spelled kind of weird,
but like, I don't know anyway. So I visited a
school in South La Woodcrest Elementary. They were having a
major issue with absenteeism. They were at like sixty eight percent,
and they started this platform a couple of years ago. Basically,
if kids come to school for a certain amount of times, days, whatever,
(20:24):
they can earn points which they can then redeem for
gift cards, sneakers, maybe even stocks, and the school says, yes,
it works.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
So there you have it, all.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Right, Rich Damiro, thank you so much of course, he
is our tech guy and you can listen to him
on his show rich on Tech every Saturday from eleven
to two. You can watch him on KTLA. You can
follow him at rich on Tech and if you want
to check out everything that he talks about, you can
go to his website and it's is it rich on
(20:53):
tech dot tv? That is it amazing? I can remember something,
rich Demiro, Thank you so much.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
Thanks Amy.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
All right, well, Cole Schreiber, of course USC hater No
people weighed in on talkback with some some jokes.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Yeah, I'm sure jokes.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Well we actually we got a couple more and well
I had kind of we can't play him.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
See I knew, I knew you started trouble early this morning.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
But this one guy had a request of you.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Hello, I'd like to reach out to Will and request
that he ceased and desist using my tender profile name.
You see it, another lover.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom.
The man convicted of trying to assassinate President Trump and
Florida is going to be sentenced in December. Ryan Ruth
was found guilty on all charges against him yesterday. He
reportedly tried to stab himself in the neck after the
verdict was read in the courtroom. President Trump posted on
True Social that Ralph Ruth is an evil man and
(22:00):
thanked the Justice Department for its work. A woman in
Placentia has been arrested after who two year old drowned
during a bath. The baby's mother had told investigators that
she stepped away Monday night and when she came back,
the baby was faced down in the water, but least
say though. The mom then hurt herself and was taken
to the hospital. She was later arrested on suspicion of
involuntary manslaughter. Disney Plus subscribers soon will be paying more
(22:25):
for the streaming service. The price for basic Disney Plus
with ADS is going up to eleven ninety nine starting
next month. Premium subscription up to eighteen ninety nine. YouTube TV,
Netflix and Paramount have all raised their prices recently.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Damie's on it, Damien's on Amy's on it, Damie's on it.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Yeah, I'm still watching Disney Plus and what am I on?
I'm on the stream. There's so much, as we were
talking aboutout Rich DeMuro, that these streaming services are all
adding up but there's some good shows down there, and
I watched this one. I was a little bit skeptical
because I don't always love the live action remakes of
Disney movies. I think, like The Lion King, the the
(23:15):
CGI or whatever they're calling it is fantastic, but it's
not as good as the original animation. Okay, well, this
one is now available included with your Disney Plus. You
don't have to pay extra for It was recently in
theaters and I didn't see it in the theater, but
it's Leelo and Stitch, so it's now on Disney Plus.
(23:38):
They've done so many of these, you know, Lion King,
Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid Snow White, which was awful,
but this one I loved. If you don't know the story,
projects six to six is a little alien created to
destroy things. He and his creator get caught. Six to
six gets exiled from another planet and he lands in
(23:58):
Hawaii and his goal is to wreak havoc on big cities,
but of course there are no big cities on the islands.
So then he meets Lee Low, a little girl who's
lost your parents. And it's interesting because while there are
lots of similarities to the original. They've kind of softened
the storyline a little bit, but it works like there's
(24:20):
a lot more in the animated version, there's a lot
more just bad behavior all the time. This one, they've
softened it up a little bit, and the CG animation
I think works because, unlike Lion King, where the CGI
makes real animals talk, Stitches a creature from another planet,
so you don't even you know, I'm not thinking, oh,
he looks too real. You know he's an alien, so
(24:42):
it's easier to kind of suspend your disbelief on it.
There are a couple of elements of the storyline from
the original that are missing from the live action, but
it's okay. It still works. It was fun, adventurous, The
characters are endearing, the animation is so good you believe
it instead of questioning it. And then there's Elvis Presley
of course, and there's aliens, and there's family, and there's fun.
(25:03):
So how do you go wrong? I think Disney got
it right with this run. Disney got it right with
this one. Leel and Stitch on Disney. Plus, I'm on it.
I think you should be too. But just for good measure,
do go watch the original two because it is fantastic
time to get in your business now with Bloomberg. We
have Denise Pellegrini in this morning for Court and Age Morning. Denise,
(25:25):
good morning.
Speaker 10 (25:25):
I wanted to kick things off here talking about AI
because we have more proof if you needed it about
just how hot investors are about AI. Ali Baba shares
surging to the highest in years, the Chinese e commerce
and tech firm revealing plans to ramp up AI spending
past an original fifty billion dollar plus target, plus Micron
Technology shares getting some positive attention in the pre market,
(25:48):
the memory chipmaker giving it up beat forecast, helped by
demand for artificial intelligence equipment and stop futures they are
higher right now. Treasury Secretaris Scott Bess saying the US's
discussing a twenty billion dollar swap line with Argentina, maybe
contributing to the optimism. Down futures up sixty one, s
and P futures up ten, NASTAC futures up fifty four.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
What's a swap line?
Speaker 10 (26:11):
A swap line allows people to borrow or entities to borrow.
You know, it's a line of credit for a government
so that they don't you know, go in the other direction,
which is what they were worried about.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Okay, speaking of going up and going down, we were
just talking about Disney and Disney shares. How are they
doing after the return of Kimmel.
Speaker 10 (26:38):
Yeah, I mean, that's a good question. And I checked
this morning when I came in, just because there were
so many headlines, like you've been talking about about the
fact that he was on again last night, what he said,
the tone he took, his response to President Trump, Trump's reaction, everything. Well,
Disney shares are a little bit higher, and that's even
though some stations have been refusing to air the show.
(26:59):
What might be helped those the other story about Disney
you mentioned with Disney Plus prices going up a lot
on October twenty first, although you do also have to
question the wisdom of raising prices just as people are
dropping some of your programming. Yeah, we'll see how that lands.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
But so the increase in prices seems to be getting
a favorable response with their shares or Jimmy Kimmel being back,
or could be responsible for the shares kind of getting
their footing, Okay, all right, or it could be a
little bit of both. Who knows. If you like gold,
(27:39):
you got to be pretty happy. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (27:41):
And if you've got some amy, some gold bars under
the mattress, or in the mattress, I should say, are
buried in the backyard, or if you're a buyer of
those costco bars that everybody loves to buy that are
so popular they limit you to you know, one an hour,
five a day or something. You got to be smiling today.
Gold future, they are just a little bit lower, but
(28:01):
they've been gaining for days now, and they're hovering new
a record high as investors consider FED chair Powell's cautions
tone yesterday. Also, there's a key inflation report coming out
later this week that could rattle investors could see gold
take another leg higher. So, I mean gold's already up,
you know, a lot this year. If it goes up
(28:21):
more to a new record high, you get to see
a whole new wave of people taking those disco gold
chains and taking them back.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
To ponkidding, what did palis eighty?
Speaker 10 (28:31):
Yesterday, Powell said that there's really no good answer for
the FED that no matter which way they move, there are.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Risks, risks everywhere.
Speaker 10 (28:41):
Okay, a little haunting, but I guess honest, okay, and
then let's get in the business a weddings for a second.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Is bigger better for diamond engagement rings?
Speaker 10 (28:53):
Yeah, this is a funny thing. You know, that tiny
ring featured in the Amazon series this summer I turned
pretty right? Well, that was supposed to be cute, right,
like modest. They're what college kids, so this is their
little love right, But that ring was so widely ridiculed
on social media for being so pathetically small. And on
(29:15):
the other hand, that big fat ring that Travis Kelsey
gave Taylor Swift is being widely admired. So Wall Street
Journal is pointing out that a growing number of ring
buyers are going for lab grown diamonds so they can
get the size they wanted.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Which is big.
Speaker 10 (29:28):
But the paper also says, Amy, if you're thinking about
getting an engagement ring, do not go too large because
that is going to get the heck of made. You know,
people are just going to beat the heck out of
you for being over the top. Ridiculous if you have
a rock on your finger that's so big, like your
arm is hanging down, so.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Not a problem. I'm crazy, okay, all right? Denise Pella
Greenee getting in your business every day like we do
at five forty on wake up call. We'll talk to
you soon, Thank you. Three people have been shot an
immigration office in Dallas, Texas. An official says a shooter
is dead, apparently dead of a self inflicted wound. Jimmy
(30:08):
kimmel Is returned to his ABC show. He got emotional
and got several long standing ovations last night. He said
he didn't intend to make light of the murder of
a young man, meaning Charlie Kirk. He criticized the affiliates
who took him off the air, calling the move not
legal and Unamerican. The LAPD says chef Gordon Ramsey is
(30:28):
the victim of a swatting call. Police responded to a
call that Ramsey had been shot at his home in
bel Air on Monday. Well Ramsey wasn't even in the
country at the time. Officers found no sign of a shooting.
The prank is the most recent in a number of
so called swatting calls on celebrities. An investigation into who
made the call continue. So far, no arrests have been made.
We are just minutes away from Handle on the news.
(30:51):
Of course, Handle not here, still on vacation. We've got
Neil Savader sitting in. President Trump seems to have done
an about face when it comes to the war between
Russia and Ukraine. Neil's going to talk about that. Ladies,
I have a question for you. Where can you find
a guy? Do you go to online dating sites? Do
(31:12):
you go to bars, do you go to sporting events?
Maybe church friends, ask them to make a connection for you.
If that's not working, we might need to go old school.
I think I do need to do this. So I
came across this. I was probably doom scrolling, and it
says where to find a man, And then it turns
out it's from a nineteen fifty eight magazine that features
(31:36):
one hundred and twenty eight ways to get a husband.
So here are some things that you should do be
doing women. Apparently, One, get a dog and walk it.
I would tell you dogs are magnets.
Speaker 7 (31:51):
Two.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Have your car breakdown at strategic places. I don't know
that I would want to do that in Los Angeles,
attend night school and take courses that men like. Four.
Join a hiking club. Okay, you can do that around here. Five.
Look in the census reports for places with the most
(32:14):
single men. Nevada has one hundred and twenty five males
for every one hundred females. I don't know if those
numbers hold up. This was back in nineteen fifty eight.
I hear Alaska's good too, Alaska probably good. Six read
the obituaries to find eligible widowers. This is awesome. Seven
(32:35):
take up golf and go to different golf courses. Actually,
I don't think that's a bad idea. Yeah, might have
to dig out my clubs. Eight take several short vacations
at different places rather than one long one at one place. Okay,
I don't get that one. Nine sit on a park
bench and feed the pigeons. Of course, in la you
(32:57):
probably have to dodge the homeless people. Ten take a
bicycle trip through Europe. It's always a good idea. Three eleven.
I don't know how I got from ten to three,
but okay. Eleven. Get a job in a medical, dental,
or law school. Apparently there's lots of men there. Oh, okay, okay.
Number twelve. Become a nurse or an airline stewardess. They
(33:18):
have very high marriage rates.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Stewardess.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
You don't hear that works very often. And thirteen ask
your friend's husbands who the eligible men are in their offices.
That's just thirteen of the one hundred and twenty eight
ways to get a husband, according to a nineteen fifty
eight magazine article, Wow, Okay, okay, two more days till
(33:44):
we go over the Edge. Need your help, Need your help.
We're raising money to fight homelessness in LA. We're raising
money for the Union Rescue Mission. And this is a
group that is different than a lot of organizations because
one it's privately funded. They don't get federal funding, and
they actually help people find their way home. So instead
(34:06):
of just throwing money at the problem, they help when
they come in. They get assigned a caseworker, get they
do get housing. Transitionally, they get job training, they get
job placement, they get rehab. I mean, they really help
these people who have been displaced and want the help
to get back on their feet. And that's something that
(34:27):
I can get behind and I hope that you can too.
And so to that end, we are going over the
Edge Friday and Saturday, September twenty sixth and twenty seventh
at the Universal City Hilton and Neil Svader's doing it too.
We're both raising money and would love it if you
could spare, spare a little of a donation, little lot,
(34:50):
whatever you got, will take it, and it's very easy
to do. Just go to RM dot org slash ote.
That's RM dot org slash ote and there's a little
KFI team banner up on that page and just click
on that and make your donation. We would appreciate anything
that you can spare. Again, it's actually to help people.
(35:10):
It's not throwing money at the problem. It's actually helping
them get back on their feet and find their way home.
We're going over the edge. Would love for you to
join us. Two a thousand dollars donation. You can go
over the edge and repel down twenty five stories with
me and Neil. It's only two hundred and fifty feet. Yeah, okay,
let's get back to some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The city of
Inglewood has agreed to pay millions to a man wrongfully
(35:33):
convicted of murder.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Maurice Hastings is now seventy two years old. He spent
more than thirty eight years in prison, wrongfully convicted of
a robbery, homicide, and sexual assault. He didn't commit DNA
evidence later proved that someone else committed the crimes. Even
during his multiple trials, there was no physical evidence linking
Hastings to the nineteen eighty three crimes. He was released
a few years ago. Now, the city of Inglewood has
(35:55):
agreed to settle the suit filed by Hastings for twenty
five million dollars. That settlement, a federal civil rights violation
claim has been dropped. Michael Monks KFI News.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
A man from Santa Monica has been arrested for allegedly
doxing and harassing a lawyer at US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Prosecutors say he created a Facebook post identified the ICE agent,
posted her home address, and told people to swatter. He
also allegedly posted her personal information on another social media site.
US attorney Bill a Sale in California says, contrary to
(36:26):
what some misguided individuals think, doxing federal agents and employees
is not a harmless crime, and it is a federal crime.
A Mexican national and former DOCCA recipient has died in
costody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Victorville. The man
had been transferred to a hospital from an ICE facility
in Adelanto and was pronounced dead on Sunday. Officials say
(36:49):
he'd been seen by an on call medical provider and
that he had blood pressure, heart and other medical issues.
The man is the fourteenth detainee to die in immigration
detention since federal ice operations started in southern California earlier
this year. Forecasters are warning Hurricane Gabrielle still poses danger
to Americans, even though it's far out in the Atlantic Ocean.
(37:12):
Meteorologist Gingersey says it has whipped up the seeds.
Speaker 11 (37:15):
We still have high rip current risk from the Jersey
Shore down through Rehoboth Beach into Florida too, and there
are two other areas we're watching with a ninety percent
and sixty percent chance of developing into a tropical depression.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Tropical Storm Narda has formed off the west coast of
Mexico and could bring wet weather to southern California by
this weekend. And more than a dozen colleges in California
have been named among the best in the US in
the twenty twenty six US News and World Report rankings.
They include UCLA, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis. The
(37:48):
rankings US The rankings assessed roughly seventeen hundred colleges based
on academic quality, graduates earnings, and how well students are
