Call, here's what we're getting startedwith a so called atmospheric river is flowing
toward California. Heavy rain is expectedtomorrow. A winter storm watch will be
in effect from late tonight through tomorrownight. In the San Gabriel Mountains and
along the five and fourteen Freeway corridors. Up to eighteen inches of snow could
fall above the seven thousand foot level, ad dusting to about three inches of
(01:26):
snow is expected to fall between fortyfive hundred and six thousand feet. Two
witnesses have testified in Grossman Burne Foundationco founder Rebecca Grossman's murder trial in Van
Nuys that they saw a pair ofMercedes SUVs speeding before the white suv hit
a young boy who was crossing withthis family and a Westlike village crosswalk in
(01:48):
twenty twenty two were killed. Residentsand businesses in the northern California zip code
of nine five six three six havesomething to write home about again. It's
the zip code for the Grizzly Flatspost Office, which was destroyed along with
more than a thousand buildings in awildfire in twenty twenty one. The US
Postal Service says the Grizzly Flats postoffice will reopen for full service today.
(02:12):
Nice to see at six oh fiveit's handled on the news. Could Taylor
Swift and the NFL be part ofa plot to win re election for President
Biden? Handle's going to dive intothat one. Let's get started with some
of the stories coming out of theKFI twenty four hour newsroom. Charges have
been filed in San Bernardino County againstthe five men arrested for the murder of
six people in the high Desert nearAdelanto. All five are charged with special
(02:37):
circumstances murder and robbery. All butone are also facing firearms charges. The
bodies of the murdered men were foundlast week off Highway three ninety five in
El Mirage. All had been shot. Investigators say four were also burned.
The LAPD says it has busted upa major theft operation involving more than five
million dollars worth of Nike shoes andmerchandise. Investigators say during a search at
(03:00):
a warehouse in Hawthorne, they foundthousands of pairs of Nike shoes, clothing,
accessories, and unique prototypes. OnMonday, police say thirty seven year
old roy Lee Harvey Junior was bookedfor receiving stolen merchandise. It's not known
how or where Harvey got all thestuff. The Department's Major Theft Task Force
and Organized Retail Crimes Task Force werealso part of the operation, along with
(03:21):
the Commercial Crimes and Cargo Theft unitsand Nike's Global Security Director Steve Gregory,
King of Fineos. Iran says itwill respond decisively to any attack on the
Islamic Republic by the US. Overthe killings of three American soldiers in a
drone attack, abc ZM Wins saysthat attack over the weekend at a military
base in Jordan injured dozens of troops. President Biden blames iron for arming the
(03:45):
radical militants who carried out the deadlyattack. He told reporters yesterday he's already
decided how the US will respond, adding the White House wants to avoid a
broader war in the Middle East.Iran has denied any involved in the drawne
attack with eighteen eyes and fifteen notes, the eyes have it and the motion
is agreed to. House Republicans havetaken a party line vote toward impeaching Homeland
(04:10):
Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorcis. Republicans claimMayorcis has deliberately ignored immigration law. Democratic
Congressman Dan Goldman says that is nottrue. More deportations and removals have been
executed than under any previous administration. Our Speaker Mike Johnson says Mayorcas has helped
(04:30):
usher in the largest illegal immigration catastrophein our nation's history. The entire House
will now decide on the impeachment.A vote could come as early as next
week. Remember William Hung, hebecame famous or infamous for his American Idol
audition in two thousand and four. She bang right, He's going to go
(04:50):
work for the La County Sheriff's Department. Hung is now forty one years old.
He's going to work as a crimeanalyst. He had the job several
years ago, but then left tostart a career as a professional poker player.
Hung says poker led to a seriousgambling addiction that cost him his marriage
and also affected other areas of hislife. Well, nice to see he's
(05:13):
back on track. Let's say goodmorning now at five oh six to ABC's
Jordana Miller in Jerusalem. Jordana, there is rumbling of a deal to stop
the fighting and to release hostages, but Prime Minister Nettagna, who says,
uhh, that's not happening right.Well, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Nataniel is
essentially saying, you know, theterms that Hamas is demanding, we're not
(05:39):
on the same page. We're notgoing to agree. And he said last
night and today again that Israel willnot release thousands of Palestinian prisoners and that
the Israeli army will not leave theGoz's strip entirely. Now, that still
leaves NATANIEO with quite a bit ofwiggle room to cut a deal. Or
(06:00):
in November we saw Israel release ata three to one rate Palestinian prisoners.
And in this framework deal and phaseone of it, which the mediators,
including the United States, are kindof urging Israel and Hamas to agree to
now even if they have disputes aboutthe other parts of the deal, because
there's three phases that we talked aboutyesterday, right, okay, right,
(06:23):
right, there's three phases. Soin this first phase where Hamas would free
the Israeli female civilians, be injured, and the elderly men and women in
the elderly category, that's about fortySo if Israel agreed to us again a
three to one, even a fourto one rate, it would only be
one hundred. You know, itwou barely be two hundred Palestinian prisoners,
(06:46):
so that's still viable. And also, you know, Israel last time redeployed
and moved out of some areas, and they would be expected to do the
same. Those are some of thedetails being worked out. So Natanya's certainly
has room to still get the ballrolling on this deal. The problems are
in phase two. In phase three, what would Hamas demand to get the
(07:09):
Israeli soldiers, including the female soldiersout, and what would they demand in
phase three to deliver what are nowover twenty five bodies that they're holding.
Israel has said it will not agreeto end the war. It will not
agree to leave Gaza, you know, entirely, and that it sees,
(07:29):
you know, a security role forIsrael in the interim. Before you know,
there's a party that can take overthe Gaza Strip and govern it.
And of course, one of thehuge disputes which we don't even talk about
that lunch Hamas is still unwilling torelinquish power over the Gaza Strip. It
still thinks that it can negotiate forsome kind of role in post war Gaza,
(07:51):
which Israel in the United States andmany of the West. The Western
leaders oppose well, and Natanya, who's pretty um I said, not pretty
much, but flat out said weare going to destroy Hamas. So Hamas
can say we want to remain incontrol. But if Israel had it had
its way, Hamas would just bedead, completely gone, right, I
(08:13):
mean, Israel's Israel's aimans too kickHamas out of the Gaza Strip. So
just mantle its its military capabilities, kill or expel its leaders, and push
it out. You know, thegoal is to give governing of the Gaza
Strip to another body that will notsupport terror or, as Ntaignell says,
(08:39):
educate Palestinians to hate or you know, or carry out violent attacks on Jews
or Israelis. So you know, this is a long term plan, and
you know Hamas Hamas is also youknow, put down very hard lines.
But we'll have to see how theend of this war can be negotiated.
(09:03):
That seems very far off this phaseone. When Blincoln comes to visit next
week, perhaps the Sectary of Statewill be able to give the final push
for the sides to agree. Atleast to this first phase, okay,
And a US facial has said thateven though publicly the talks don't appear to
be going well and from everything you'retelling us, they don't appear to be
(09:24):
going well, they are saying,oh, well, that might not be
the case. Well, that's Ithink, because when you talk about the
whole deal, the three phases, there's no way the gaps are huge.
If you talk about just phase one, then everyone agrees that the general parameters,
(09:46):
all sides agree on them. Whenit would start where the Israeli are,
we would deployed to the guarantees.About how long the ceasefire will be,
that is much closer at hand, and as all these could be reached
as all these talks continue, weknow that the fighting continues on the ground,
(10:07):
so I wanted to sort of getan update from you on that.
We know that we had talked aboutIsrael was going to kind of scale back
its offensive, still continuing, butdoing more targeted attacks in the Gaza Strip.
Is that happening now? So inthe northern part of the Gaza Strip
(10:28):
there are far fewer tanks and troops, and there are some areas of combat,
but mostly it is targeted operations inthe southern part of the Gaza Strip.
It is still an active war zonedin the south. Okay, heil
is pushing, yeah, to thetheir work. They're operating in Communis,
(10:50):
the southern city and to the westand south, pushing towards the Rafa area,
the border crossing with Egypt. Okay. And then we also heard that
in the northern part of the GazaStrip, Israe's military is saying that they've
killed about fifteen Hamas militants in thelast day and also targeted militant infrastructure in
(11:13):
a school. Like you've been saying, they build their infrastructures in schools and
hospitals to try to keep the attacksdown on them or to hide them,
right right. So a few daysago, you know, there was the
very disturbing news that Hamas had builttunnels underneath the cemetery. Feels like that's
(11:35):
a new lobe for Hamas. Butthey often and not often, I would
say, part of their military strategy, of course, is to build tunnels
under schools, inside schools, youand shelters. There can be tunnel chafts
near those areas, mosques, residentialbuildings. I mean, this is it's
(11:58):
a near daily flow of images anda video that the Israeli Army puts out
of things they're finding, which haveeven shocked is all intelligence officials. You
know, they thought they knew whatwas happening in the Godsen Strip. Now
that they're inside, it's much worsethan they even suspected. And what's so
(12:20):
interesting here is it because we've talkedabout this, and one of the reasons
I want to keep talking to youis because we need to know this stuff
because we're not seeing that here.I mean, it's it's just out of
the news cycle, right, Soright, it's important to keep talking to
you, right right, right,Well, yes, there's other events going
(12:41):
on in elections and everything else, getting gearing up for election day in the
United States, But right this waris still very much alive, there's no
doubt about that. And there aresoldiers that are dying every day here.
And by the way, the plightof the Gosins continue, They're suffering continues.
(13:01):
There's tens of thousands of Gossens nowthat have left even the southern part
where they initially fled to. Theythey're on the run or walk again,
moving further south as the fighting entersConunis. So this is this is terrible
for families who you know, they'rejust taking anything they can with them and
(13:24):
moving to tents and overpacked you andshelters. You know, there's one point
eight million gossens. Eighty percent ofgosens are in southern Gaza, and that's
where a lot of the intense fightingis going on. So you know,
we're seeing about two hundred trucks ofeight get in a day now, which
is a little some improvement over thelast few weeks, but that's only that's
(13:48):
a fifty percent less than what gotinto the strip before the war. So
I mean to miss nowhere near enough. Well, there's no good news that
maybe they're starting to get a freeto work for something together. And we'll
be watching and we'll be checking inwith you. Jordana Miller, thank you
again for the information. We appreciateit. Thanks, Thanks, take care.
(14:11):
Let's get back to some of thestories coming out of the KFI twenty
four hour newsroom. Russia's Defense ministrysays Russia and Ukraine have exchanged one hundred
and ninety five prisoners of war each. We're just getting that information and we'll
bring you more as it comes inthis morning. A man's been sentenced to
twelve years in federal prison for pullingoff ten armed robberies in Orange County within
(14:31):
twenty within forty eight hours. Inhis plea agreement, George Arizona actually pleaded
to just one robbery of a seveneleven and twenty twenty two when US Attorney
LA spokesman Kira McAvoy says the guyshoved a ghost gun in a clerk's face.
The Storm employee was in fear forhis life and handed Arizona eighty dollars
in cash and two pack of cigarettes. So I think about that. Twelve
years in prison for eighty dollars incash and two packs of cigarettes. As
(14:54):
part of the deal, the guyadmitted the other robberies during sentencing Monday.
He was also ordered to pay backmore than thirty six hundre dollars to the
seven eleven, eight restaurants and onehair salon in Orange County. Corbin Carson
KFI News CBS is closing twenty fiveminute clinic locations in southern California. The
pharmacy giant says it's to help supportfuture growth and design the next evolution of
community health destinations. Whatever that means. The clinics will be closing by February
(15:20):
twenty fifth, eleven minute clinics willstay open with virtual on demand options.
When we come back, we're goingto be talking TechEd because it is wired
Wednesday. Are you depressed have anxiety? There's an app for that and KTLA's
Rich Demiro is going to tell usall about it. You're listening to Wake
Up Call on Demand from KFI Amsix forty five twenty three. I'm Amy
(15:41):
King. Thanks for starting your daywith us. Here's what we're following in
the KFI twenty four our newsroom.FBI Director Christopher Races Chinese hackers are getting
ready to unleash havoc on Americans.Ray and other top federal security officials will
be testifying on Capitol Hill that theChinese are planning to target critical infrastructure,
including water treatment, electricity, andnatural gas pipelines. Manhattan Beach police are
(16:06):
looking for the person or people whostole a bronze plaque detailing the racially charged
history of Bruce's Beach. The theftis the latest in a string of recent
crimes in which thieves have been takingbronze and other metal items and hopes of
reselling them. State Senator Scott Wieneris introduced a bill that would allow people
to drink alcohol on public streets andsidewalks, much like in Las Vegas.
(16:26):
Wiener says the designated entertainment zones wouldactivate downtown streets where activity has struggle to
rebound from the pandemic. At sixoh five, it's Handle on the news.
Democrats are pushing for a border deal, saying they're going to do it
since Republicans won't. Right now, let's say good morning too. The host
of Rich on Tech right here onKFI KTLA tech reporter Rich DeMuro, Good
(16:47):
morning, Rich, Good morning toyou. Amy. Okay, so we
know that you love this Apple VisionPro and apparently are and are you the
only one? No, the reviewsare coming in and they're actually quite good
for a thirty five hundred dollars headset. But that is the underlying theme is
that it's really good, but it'salso thirty five hundred dollars and who needs
(17:10):
this and what's the use case scenario? So let me give you a quick
summary of some of the reviews.Yes, it's probably one of the best
headsets out there, but it isheavy, especially if you're wearing it for
a long time. Like how heavyrich is it? Like a eight ounces
or sixteen ounces or it's the lastI heard was grams about eight hundred grams,
which I don't know how many ouncesthat is, but it's heavier than
(17:33):
an iPad strapped to your face,So let's put it that way for the
for the you know, for therecord, I only had it on my
face for probably half an hour.I did not feel that it was overly
heavy, but I did adjust ita few times. Maybe that's because my
brain was telling me, hey, this is a little bit heavy on your
face. But twenty eight ounces, okay, ooh that for eight If it's
eight hundred grams, that's what that'stwenty eight ounces. Oh wow, Well
(17:56):
that seems really heavy. That's likeit's not like a gallon of milk.
It's heavy, but it's also incredible, so, you know, watching movies
is great on this. People saythey can work in this thing. The
controllers are really easy because it's literallyjust looking at stuff and pinching with your
fingers, so it's very easy tolike get the hang of. And you
(18:18):
know, the downside is the batterypack. It doesn't last that long.
It lasts about two hours. Althoughyou know, are you going to really
spend that much time in this everyday? And again the price and who's
this for and what is the mainuse case scenario? And we all have
a laptop, we all have aphone, So now you're going to spend
even more time doing what inside thisheadset besides watching a movie for thirty five
hundred That's what it comes down to. It goes on self Friday, by
(18:41):
the way. Okay, then thiswas this is sort of interesting. There's
an app that might help you ifyou think you might be depressed. Yeah,
this is an app that I've spokenabout before. I've interviewed the doctor
who created it. She's actually thesame person behind Heel, which is the
company that they did the house calls, or they still do, I guess,
but she has moved on to thisnew app. It's called Together Byrona,
(19:03):
and the app is sort of aone stop shop for all of your
health concerns, so you can trackyour the medications that you take. It
uses AI to sort of scan thebottles of these medications. Excuse me here,
but it could also take a selfieand you can check your blood pressure,
your heart rate, your oxygen levels. But the newest feature is that
you can speak into this app.And I tried this yesterday and it can
(19:26):
detect signs of anxiety and depression. And I don't know, I just think
that the idea of like this onestop shop app is really interesting, especially
if you're helping to take care ofsomeone like a parent or a loved one,
because you can kind of link intothis app and make sure that they're
taking their medications, make sure theyhave their appointments, and also monitor their
(19:48):
vitals. I'm fascinated by the speakinginto it. I think the whole thing
sounds really cool, but that youcan speak into something and they can detect
anxiety, yeah, I mean it'sit's you know. Look, I mean
I think humans can do the samething. You can, you know,
if you're really tuned into what peopleare thinking or saying or doing body language.
(20:10):
But you know, these are algorithmsthat get really good over time,
and this is just the beginning. And I think the bigger thing I'm seeing
here is there's more of a pushtowards home healthcare and being able to do
a lot of the stuff that youwould have to go to the doctor's office
for these routine kind of vital things, these screenings. You're going to be
able to do more of them fromhome and be able to connect with the
(20:33):
doctor online on your phone, youknow, via telehealth. And it's just
going to you know, cut downon the cost of things and also expand
health into much more facets, manymore facets of our lives. Well.
And two, I think there isa lot of apprehension about going to a
doctor. So maybe this sort ofeasy makes it easier for you and people
are more likely to check on itrather than making the appointment and going to
(20:57):
the doctor's office. Yeah. Oror the fact that maybe you you know,
it's tough to get like with alot of elderly folks. You know,
it's like you need someone else tobring you there. Right. So
the fact that you can do someof this stuff from home, now it
has to be easy that people canunderstand how to do it and also fool
proof. But you know, themore I see of this stuff, the
more I realize that that's where we'reheaded. Okay and together by Renee Is
(21:18):
that available now? Yes? Availablefor iOS Android any day now? Oh,
any day now? Okay, Sotogether by renee. You watching for
it and then definitely want to hearabout this free TVs. Yes, so
this is a company that started lastyear. It's the guy who started do
you know Pluto TV? Are youfamiliar with that? Vaguely? I know
(21:40):
that it's out there. Yeah,it's a streaming service. So it's a
free, ad supported streaming service.Well, he sold that to Paramount and
Viacom and now he's starting a newstartup, which is Telly. This is
an AD supported smart TV, sothey literally will send you a TV.
It's got a fifty five inch fourK TV and then it's got to and
then underneath that it has a secondscreen and that's sort of the trick.
(22:03):
It's got ads on that second screenthat are on all the time. There's
also a camera for video calls.There's a voice assistant. It's a really
nice TV. I got to demoit in Vegas. But the big thing
is you are giving up your datain exchange for a free TV and it's
kind of cool. We'll see ifit works. They're expecting to go into
(22:25):
millions of homes this year. Youcan sign up on the website to get
one. You can go to mywebsite rich on Tech dot tv for the
link. But if you're selected, you get a free TV. And the
downside is, according to a couplepeople I interviewed, is that you know,
if you stop using this, youwill have to send it back and
that could cost you some money.Okay, And if people want to see
the TV, they can check outyour segment on KTLA is at this morning
(22:48):
coming up right now, I'm headingover there, fabulous, okay, Rich
Demurro, thank you so much.KTLA Tech reporter Rich Dimiro. You can
hear him every weekend right here onKFI Saturdays from eleven to two, and
you can also follow Rich on Instagramat rich on Tech his website rich on
tech dot tv. Thanks for allthe info. Rich, All right,
Sea, all right, when wecome back, Amy's on It an Academy
(23:11):
nominated movie that hasn't generated a tonof buzz, So the big question now
is should it be getting more? We'll tell you. Baseball season is here.
Don't miss live coverage from FanFest withinsider David Vesse this Saturday from noon
to three. Check out another winningseason at Broadway in Hollywood dot Com.
Southland weather from KFI a mix ofsun and clouds today, highs in the
(23:33):
mid sixties at the coast, sixtiesto low seventies inland, fifties and sixties
in the high desert. The stormmoves in overnight, with heavy rain at
times expected tomorrow. Gusty winds andthunderstorms are possible. Chance of rain Friday
and Saturday, then rain likely againstarts Sunday and into next week. You're
listening to Wake Up Call on demandfrom KFI Am six forty. My days
(23:56):
are all messed up this week becauseI took Monday off, so I almost
said it's Thursday, and yesterday Iscrewed something up because I thought it was
Monday, but it is Wednesday,Humpday. I know Bill is going to
be saying that all morning long.I mee mee king, thanks for getting
your day started with us. Here'swhat we're following in the KFI twenty four
hour newsroom. A so called atmosphericreverse flowing toward California, heavy rains expected
(24:21):
tomorrow. A winter storm watch willbe up from late tonight through tomorrow night
in the San Gabriel Mountains and alongthe five and fourteen freeway corridors. Up
to eighteen inches of snow could fallabove seven thousand feet. We're expecting a
dusting to three inches of snow.Between forty five hundred and six thousand feet
in the valleys, expect about twoto three inches of rain. House Republicans
(24:44):
have voted to advance articles of impeachmentfor Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorcis.
The full House could vote on thearticles as soon as next week.
Mayorcis is accused of willfully and systematicallyrefusing to comply with federal immigration laws.
Former President Trump's going to be onIllinois presidential primary ballot, after all.
The state Board of Elections voted todismiss an effort to remove him from the
(25:08):
ballot over his alleged involvement in theCapitol riot. The Supreme Court will take
up Colorado's efforts next month to pullthe former president from its ballot. At
six oh five, it's handle onthe news. A man's been arrested for
stealing a whole lot of Nikes, five million dollars worth. At five point
fifty, we're going to be talkingwith ABC's Ines de la Quaterra about how
(25:30):
and when the US might respond tothe deadly attack that killed three US service
members in Jordan. Amy's on it, AMI's on it, Aami's on Itami's
on it. What am I on? I'm on streaming. There's so much
content out there that how would youpossibly know what to watch? And you
(25:53):
can go and you can kind ofjust go start flipping around, but then
you don't know if you're going toget it's something good, and I like
to get something good, so Itake recommendations from friends, and I take
for recommendations from family. Like Tonyjust told me about a movie that I
haven't seen yet, and I probablywill, but I might wait till it
streams. But he's saying, godZilla Minus one is like top Dogs,
(26:17):
top notch movie. I absolutely lovedit, absolutely love it, sam every
bit of it. It's all inJapanese. It's subtitled Okay, I might
have to get on that one,but right still a Godzilla movie. But
yeah, okay, but right now, hopefully I can recommend some good ones
to you as well, so youcan see the good ones and maybe skip
the bad ones. Or if youlike bad movies, maybe you'll see the
(26:40):
bad movies. But here's one thatis up on Peacock. It's called The
Holdovers. Starring Paul Giamatti, whowas nominated for an Academy Award for his
role. It's also nominated for BestPicture, and I will just tell you
that this movie deserves that nomination. So in fact, I went and watched
it a second time because I wasit's like, did I like it that
(27:00):
much? And the beauty about streamingis you can go watch it again if
you really like it. So it'sa story about a group of people who
get stuck at a rather prestigious academy. It's a boarding school over the two
week Christmas holiday. The year isnineteen seventy and of course the students left
behind at school and the teacher areat odds from the get go, so
(27:22):
the tension and the conflict is setfrom the start, and it's sort of
like a misfits Christmas, Like everybodyelse is going and they're going on these
cool holiday vacations with their families andall this stuff, and there's just a
few students who aren't able to gohome. So they're stuck there in some
remote area in the snow in themiddle of winter, and nothing's open,
(27:45):
everything's closed, so they're just kindof stuck with themselves. So Paul Hunum
is played by Paul Giamatti. Heis cranky, he is super intelligent,
and he is notoriously hard on hisstudents and basically disliked by everyone, and
he plays this character brilliantly. Thenthere is eighteen year old Angus, who
(28:08):
is privileged. He's smart, buthe's always getting in trouble. He's one
of those kids who's like always aboutto be expelled. And he comes across
as a tough guy, but ishe a tough guy. It's gonna have
to be something that you watch tofind out. There's also it features the
head cook who is stuck to feedingthese people over the holidays, played by
(28:30):
Divine Joy Randolph. She just losther son in Vietnam and she just stays
behind because she doesn't want to dealwith the whole Christmas holiday. So it's
not action packed. It's a reallygood story and as you may have come
to know that I love this kindof thing. It just gives the story
(28:52):
move room to breathe, so theydon't try to rush through everything. And
when they introduce new elements, theyexplain it that things don't just appear for
no reason, that everything kind ofhas a reason and it gives them time
to dig into the characters, whattheir flaws are, what makes them tick,
what their pain is. The writingis wonderful. There's not a lot
(29:14):
of surprises, but there are interestingand compelling twists and turns, and there
are life lessons and there are insights, and there is some redemption, which
I always enjoyed that. I hatemovies that just they're like bad, bad,
bad, bad, and then themovie ends. I like it when
the characters grow and learn, andI think that they do in this one.
(29:34):
So it's surprisingly funny like and acouple of times I kind of chuckled
out loud. It's sad. Partsof it are uncomfortable, but it's charming
and it keeps you entertained and itkeeps you engaged, and it's definitely worth
the watch. And we'll be interestingto see if Paul Giamatti picks up a
win on this one. I thinkhe won a Golden Globe for it.
I'm not an I can't remember,but it's called The Holdovers. It's on

Peacock. I highly highly recommend it. Back to some of the stories coming
out of the KFI twenty four hourNewsroom, parents in Porter Ranch say the
La School District may be moving middleschoolers to Chatsworth High School because of overcrowding.
Parents with students at Porter Ranch CommunitySchools say they specifically bought homes that
have their kids attend the number twoschool in the district. Christy Rose says
(30:18):
the school is that capacity because developerskeep developing homes, but the city hasn't
added more schools. Unfortunately, familiesare moving in and they can't even enroll
their kids into the school that's rightacross the street. Parents called out district
leaders at a town hall meeting Mondaynight, criticizing their lack of planning and
demanding proof of where their tax dollarsare being spent. La City Councilman John
Lee has vowed to raise five hundredthousand dollars to try to keep the six
(30:41):
through eighth graders on campus. Ifit is for the extension at least just
three years. Not it doesn't evenhave to be a permanent solution. I'm
willing to push in that half amillion dollars. The district has offered other
solutions, including pausing permits and expandingthe K through eight school itself. The
district says nothing has been finalized andit will can continue to discuss options with
parents. Chris Adler KFI News.Federal agents in La say twelve people have
(31:07):
been arrested in connection with a majordrug trafficking ring allegedly connected to Mexican cartels.
Thea's FBI's Don Always says the investigationstarted in twenty twenty, but it
could not have been successful without thecollaboration between the US, Canada, and
Mexico who worked together to interdict andtake down a fairly significant drug trafficking organization
(31:30):
that was bringing massive amounts of drugsthroughout our continent, harming our citizens in
all three countries. The FED sayhundreds of pounds of cocaine, meth and
fentanyl were smuggled from Mexico and headedto Canada. Ten people were arrested yesterday
too were already in custody. Oneof the candidates for the US Senate seat
formerly held by Diane Feinstein says anadministrative error by the California Secretary of State's
(31:56):
office is killing her campaign and callselection integrity into question. The ballot lists
Christina Pascucci as no ballot designation insteadof local television journalists, so this is
hugely harmful and not only to mycampaign, but when people across a nation
are questioning the integrity of our elections, it's very important that mistakes like these
(32:19):
are not made. Pascucci says ballotdesignation can influence voter perception and trust,
and says these kinds of errors canactually affect election outcomes. Pascucci says her
polling numbers have been cut in halfdue to the error. The lead prosecutor
in the election interference case against formerPresident Trump in Georgia has reached a temporary
agreement with his wife in a divorcecase. Nathan Wade entered into the agreement
(32:44):
yesterday to avoid a hearing set fortoday where he was expected to testify about
an alleged romantic relationship with Fulton CountyDA Fanie Willis, one of Trump's co
defendants accused the pair of an improperrelationship earlier this month. Willis said any
alleged affair is irrelevant to the electioninterference case. Okay, so if you
(33:07):
like a good cup of Starbucks andyou're on a college campus, you might
not be able to find one fora while. If students get their way
students at UCLA and you see Riversidesay they want Starbucks kicked off of campus
because of its union busting campaign againstBaristas. About fifteen hundred signatures are going
(33:29):
to be turned in. Half ofthem were delivered yesterday to UCLA, to
the Board of Directors for Associated Students, and then the uc Riverside petition is
going to be delivered today to ChancellorKim Wilcox and other top decision makers at
the university. So they say thisis one of the Riverside students. Aaron
(33:52):
Whitfield says, when we graduate,we want to enter a workforce where workers
have a real voice on the jobwith their employees. And apparently, as
you may have known, that Starbuckshas closed some locations. They're in trouble
for it because they're saying, oh, you only closed them because they were
trying to unionize. And actually someof the Starbucks are being ordered to reopen,
(34:15):
which I think is a crazy overreachof government. But that's a whole
other thing. So it'll be interestingto see if they get their way.
But they want the contracts not tobe renewed and they want Starbucks off campus
until they stop trying to bust unions. We shall see this afternoon, the

Here are some of the stories comingout of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom.
A new bill in California could lettherapists and social workers decide if a
(36:07):
patient needs mandatory detention. Currently, police officers decide when someone needs to be
in a mental health facility for aseventy two hour evaluation. The bill says
licensed professional should be able to decidewithout police intervention. Data shows from twenty
twenty to twenty twenty one, morethan one hundred twenty thousand adults hold Let
(36:28):
me start that again. Data showsbetween twenty twenty and twenty one, more
than one hundred twenty thousand adult holdswere issued. The California Police Chiefs Association
supported the bill Monday. Close tothree hundred sex buyers have been arrested in
La County as part of an annualhuman trafficking sting, and one hundred and

old girl. We had a totalof ninetuvenile victims that we rescued. The
suspect who was trafficking this young victim, who was our youngest victim rescued this
year, had actually been fastening hersince the age of thirteen. Operation Reclaim
and Rebuild mobilized ninety five local, state, and federal agencies around California to
conduct massive sweeps and undercover operations.Steve Gregory Kapinos, the mother of a

Genetic genealogy led to the defendant, but also to his twin brother.
Orange County Dia Todd Spitzer says KevinConther made incriminating statements in twenty nineteen about
the two rapes from the late ninetiesduring a secretly recorded conversation with his twin
brother, who was shocked by thearrest. She was only nine years old.
(38:00):
For goodness sakes, he still rapedher and left her naked with only
her school supplies as she ran hometo tell her mom about the attack.
Conthor was also sentenced Friday for thejagger and for molesting his former girlfriend's daughter
in Orange County. Corbin Carson kafI News. The Israeli military is flooding
tunnels under Gaza with large amounts ofwater. The effort is aimed to keep
(38:22):
the Palestinian militant group Hamas from usingthe estimated three hundred and fifty miles of
tunnels that they've built. We weretalking to ABC's Geordana Miller earlier today and
she is saying that the Israelis arefinding more and more of these tunnels all
over the Gaza Strip. The planto flood the tunnels has drawn some criticism
(38:43):
over potential dangers to the nearly onehundred and thirty hostages still being held in
Gaza, and over damage to drinkingwater and sewage systems. Governor Newsom has
announced steps in California to take torestore salmon populations in the face of a
changing climate. The governor says thepriorities are to remove barriers, modernize infrastructure

for migration, and protect water flowsand key rivers. The state's already spent
more than seven hundred and ninety sixmillion dollars in the last three years towards
dam removal, returning the fish tohistorical habitats, and expanding partnerships with tribes.
Okay found a new study about nappingand if you are an early morning
(39:27):
person, as I am now anearly morning person, you may rely on
naps. I know that when Ihad regular hours, I didn't so much,
but with wonky hours, I've cometo rely on them. And I
always thought that taking an app wasa really good thing for you, but
apparently it might not be. Abouta third of adults, according to researchers,
take a nap, and while thereare lots of good things, like
(39:52):
you might feel refreshed. I alwaysknow I feel better when I get up.
New research says that for some people, napping may not be good for
you, and study from China showsthat taking a midday nap could raise your
blood pressure. Also, those whonapped were twelve percent more likely to develop
high blood pressure and twenty four percentmore likely to have a stroke than those
(40:15):
who don't take naps. Great nowI can't even take a nap. Here's
more health news for you. TheAmerican Cancer Society recently released its projections for
twenty twenty four and yearly stats, and there's good news. There's been a
thirty three percent drop in cancer deathsin the US since nineteen ninety one,
(40:39):
but colon cancer is now the leadingcause of cancer deaths among people under fifty.
Under fifty, so remember it usedto be that you hit fifty and
you got a colonoscope to make surethat everything was okay. Now they've lowered
that recommendation to forty five because they'refinding that people are getting it younger or
(41:00):
any younger, and the hitch onthat the really nasty thing is that most
people don't think about it earlier. So forty five is the new benchmark,
and especially because these statistics are scaryto say the least, and that a
colonoscopy can save your life. Iknow that it did for me. I
survived it, and if I wouldhave done it earlier, I probably wouldn't
(41:23):
have had to fight it at all. So there's my recommendation for the day,
to take your good care of yourselfand get that colonoscopy. It's something
that nobody wants to talk about. It's not fun, but get it done
anyway. Okay, here's something thatis fun. I love this. Remember
this show, Comma Knock on ourdoor. We've been waiting for you.
(41:44):
Of course you do Freeze Company. Now, if you watch the show at
the very beginning, you remember theRopers and there was Missus Roper and she
had her bright red hair and herwhat were those things called, like the
big funky dresses. I think they'recalled caftins. Well, Hermosa Beach wants
(42:07):
to celebrate Missus Roper, so they'redoing a Missus Roper romp. It's happening
on February twenty fourth. Mark yourcalendars. It's a Saturday, and basically
it's a pub crawl, but theywant everybody to come dressed as Missus Roper.
They want you to support local restaurantsin bars, and according to a
(42:30):
post by Hermosa Beach, dressing likeMissus Roper no matter what gender is a
primary costume. But you can alsodress up as somebody else if you want
to be mister Roper or mister Furley, or you could be Jack, or
you could be Larry if you want. And they even have a recommendation that
Amazon has an amazing selection of caftins, chunky jewelry and wigs. If you're
(42:52):
not sure where to find your MissusRoper outfit, again, that's happening.
I love this Missus Roper romp HermosaBeach on Saturday, February twenty fourth.
If nothing else, it'll be agood m a good drunk. Maybe you
shouldn't say that, but it shouldbe a good time and lots of photo
(43:12):
