demand on the iHeartRadio app. It'sfive o'clock straight out. This is your
wake up call for Thursday, Februaryfifteenth. I'm Amy King. Welcome to
the day after Valentine's Day. Hopeyour day is getting started off on a

(00:23):
positive note. You know, yesterdaywas super fun. It was Valentine's Day.
Love is in the air. Everyone'shappy. I was happy because I
was going to treat myself to afacial and then the shooting in Kansas City.
My goodness. We'll get to thelatest on the shooting that happened,
and then another that didn't thanks toa student who saw something and said something.

(00:43):
That's all coming up. Plus we'vegot one of our own who needs
your help. It's a pretty specificask. That's coming up at five point
fifty. Oh. And I wentout and about I'll tell you about that.
That's at five point thirty five. And here's a hint. It was
an intoxicating trip. So buckle up, let's get started. Here's what's ahead
on wakeup call. The person killedin a shooting after the Kansas City Chief's

(01:04):
victory parade has been identified as alocal DJ, Lisa Lopez Galvin. Twenty
two others, including children, werehurt in the shooting yesterday. At least
three people have been taken into custody. A high school student in Ontario has
been arrested for allegedly plotting to carryout a school shooting. Police say the
eighteen year old had every intention ofshooting up in Ontario Christian High School.

(01:27):
He was arrested after another student toldauthorities about the guy's obsession with school shootings
and that he had access to weapons. Another big storm is headed towards southern
California, and that could mean flooding. The brunt of the storm is expected
late Sunday through Tuesday, with twoto five inches of rain expected across the
La Basin. Up to eight inchescould fall in the mountains, and several

(01:49):
feet of snow as possible above seventhousand feet. At six oh five,
it's handle all the news. Amongother things, disposable cups could soon be
off the table at rusts in California. Let's get started, though, with
some of the stories coming out ofthe KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Of
course, so we told you aboutthe shooting in Kansas City. A dozen
children or among those hurt in themass shooting. One person was killed.

(02:15):
Doctors at Children's hospital say nine kidswere treated for gunshots yesterday. The shooting
happened at the end of the Chief'sSuper Bowl victory parade. This man says
he was one of several people whotackled the alleged shooter. That's I'm tackling
him. I see his weapon eitherfall out of his hand or out of
his sleep. So when I seenthat hit the ground, I'm like,
oh, you know, we gotto take this guy down. Police have

(02:38):
detained three people. The Chiefs haveconfirmed that all players, coaches, staff,
and their families are safe. Followingthe shooting, the team released a
statement saying they are saddened by thesenseless act of violence and their hearts are
with the victims and their families andall of Kansas City. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
saying he's praying for Kansas City, and Travis Kelsey saying he's heartbroken over the

(02:58):
tragedy that took place. ABC's AndrewDimbert says it's the second time in less
than a year that gun violence hasinterrupted a pro sports team's celebration. A
shooting in Denver in June injured tenpeople as fans celebrated the nuggets first NBA
championship. A high school student inOntario has been arrested for threats he allegedly
made against his school via signor.Has been formally charged with one count of

(03:22):
attempted criminal threats and five counts ofattempted murder. Ontario Police Chief Michael Lorenz
says a classmate reported Sebastian via signor, saying they were afraid he might hurt
people. An investigation found via Senorhad targets in mind, picked out a
date for the shooting, and hadsearched police response times. Several weapons and

(03:43):
more than a thousand rounds of ammunitionwere recovered. SpaceX is taking a shot
at the Moon on a happier note. ABC's Jim Ryan says the company successfully
launched its lunar lander this morning fromCape Canaveral. Within minutes, the robotic
lunar lander, known as novac orOdysseus, was operating under its own power
on a trajectory to the Moon.Nova Sis expected to land on the Moon

(04:06):
a week from today. Those workingon the mission say the moon is an
easier site to launch deeper into theSolar System from since it has won sixth
the gravity of Earth and no atmosphere. Thank you, Nick. It's five
six on your wake up call itsay good morning now to ABC's Stephen Portnoy.

(04:27):
So, Stephen, we heard yesterdaythat the House Intelligence Committee chairman said
there was a serious national security threatenand wants to know more about it and
wants us to know more about it. What you got it exactly right,
And what an interesting dynamic this is. You have the House Intelligence Committee chair
Mike Turners issuing a news release yesterdaysaying that his colleagues and the country ought

(04:48):
to be aware of what he callsan urgent matter, a foreign military capability
that could be destabilizing, and he'scalling on the President to declassify it so
the whole country can talk about it. He earned his colleagues to receive classified
briefings on it, and so ofcourse it has leaked. This is about
Russia and Russia's efforts or desire toput a nuclear weapon in space to take

(05:13):
out American satellites, the satellites that, for example, connect this radio station
with its network that allow for allof us to take out our phones and
know where we are and had towalk or drive from one place to another.
We take it all for granted, but that is satellite delivered information.
And the idea here is that theRussians could take out those vulnerable satellites which
are floating above us in space, and that we would have no defense against

(05:38):
that. And it's all about it'sessentially an arms race. And so I
think Mike Turner, the Congressman whochairs the Intelligence Committee, sees this as
a spoutnik moment where the US needsto get engaged and get ahead of this
emerging capability. And it would requireCongress I don't know it provides funding or
something to get ahead of this emergingRussian capability. And what is also interesting

(06:03):
is as this frenzy was sparked yesterdayby Mark Turner's news release, the Speaker
of the House and Turner's colleagues acrossthe Capitol in the Senate put out statements
yesterday to say that there's no needfor alarm. This Speaker of the House
came to cameras yesterday to say thatthere's no reason for panic because he's been

(06:23):
aware of this. He said forweeks and he asked for the briefing that's
said to occur today with Jake Sullivan, the President's National Security advisor, going
up to Capitol Hill to provide theinformation about all this in a classified setting
with the senior leaders of a House, including Johnson and Turner and their Democratic
counterparts. So a bit of atit well back and forth, we'll call

(06:44):
it a tip for tack, butcertainly an interesting dynamic where the White House
had yesterday was surprised that Mike Turnerwould have done this, and lots of
head scratching about what has driven himto it and do we have any kind
of inkling of what caused him todo that? If they already know this
is going on, why did hewant to go public with it right now?
There are two theories that have beenfloated, and I think they both

(07:09):
make sense. I mean, oneis that Mike Turner is a Republican who
strongly believes that the US government oughtto be doing more to support Ukraine,
and many of his Republican colleagues don'tagree with him. And I think Mike
Turner is trying to say, hey, look, guys, Putin's a bad
actor in the world. This iswhat he's up to. We've got to
meet him where he is, andwe've got to support Ukraine. That's one

(07:29):
thing. The other thing is abouttwo months from now there is the expiration
of Section seven oh two of theForeign Intelligence Surveillance Act or FISA. FISA
Section seven oh two. This isa surveillance capability. It's been highly controversial
in the post nine to eleven erabecause it's alleged that the deep state has
been using it to spy on Americans. I think it's possible that this seven

(07:50):
oh two authority has been used bythe intelligence committee community to dig into this
Russian capability. The whole idea ofsection seven oh two is it's supposed to
allow the FBI and the intelligence communityto spy on foreigners and scoop up sometimes
Americans in that surveillance, and they'resupposed to weed out the Americans or mask
the Americans. But the idea isthat if this authorization expires, that perhaps

(08:16):
America's surveillance capabilities could be weakened. And I think John Turner is trying to
say to his colleagues, this iswhat seven oh two can yield. We
need this information, we need thisauthority please don't block it. And yesterday
the House leadership pulled a seven htwo reauthorization bill because they feared it would
fail if they put it up provote this week. Okay, And just
going back to the threat for onesecond, because I know you got to

(08:37):
go. It's Russia wants to dothis. It's not an imminent thing or
we just don't know yet. Idon't believe it's an active capability. I
think if the Russians actually had anuclear weapon in space by now, we'd
know about it. Okay, allright, Steven Portino, I thank you
so much for the information. Thisis an interesting one, you bet.
All right. Let's get back tosome of the stories coming out of the
KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Morerain could put some cliff side homes in

(09:01):
Dana Point in danger. The threemultimillion dollar homes on Scenic Driver sitting on
top of a landside caused by heavyrainstorms. Cal State Long Beach geologist doctor
Nate Anderdonk says land movement along thesouthern California coast is nothing new. The
Portuguese Bend area of Pallas Verdius, though some of those big landslide features are
three hundred thousand years old two hundredthousand years old. He says more rain

(09:22):
could either pile up material at thebase of the cliff, stabilizing the hillside,
or it can have the opposite effect, sending the homes into the sea.
The city said yesterday there has beenno structural damage to the homes.
Chris Adler kf I News Pacific CoastHighway is going to be closed every night
in parts of Malibu in Ventura Countybecause of shoulder damage caused by erosion from

(09:43):
the heavy rains. All lanes ofPCACH are going to be closed between six
pm and seven am or later fromSycamore Canyon Road to Los Posas Road in
Ventura County. Reopening times could varybased on high tides or storm conditions.
The closures are until further notice.Us And has been found dead inside a
home in Glendale following a six hourstandoff with police. A man who was

(10:05):
in the house yesterday was arrested onsuspicion of murder. Officials are waiting to
identify the person killed until family couldbe notified. A missile strike on the
Russian city of Belgarod, near thenear the Ukrainian border has killed five people,
including a child, and injured eighteenothers. That's according to a Russian

(10:26):
official. Hours earlier, Russia firedtwo dozen crews in ballistic missiles at a
broad area of Ukraine, including thecapital city of Kiev. Several of the
missiles landed. Ukrainian authorities say amidnight strike in Ukraine's northeast killed five people
in an apartment building. Special CouncilJack smith Is asked the Supreme Court to

(10:46):
let former President Trump's twenty twenty electioninterference case proceed without a delay. Prosecutors
yesterday responded to a request from Trump'steam asking for a pause in the case.
They argued the court is still consideringwhether Trump is immune from prosecution.
Costumes and props from some of themost iconic films are headed to auction.

(11:09):
Items up for grabs this week includeHannibal Lecter's mask from the Silence of the
Lambs, Yoda's walking stick from StarWars, The Empire Strikes Back, and
a hoverboard from Back to the FuturePart two But It Doesn't Work. Other
items from Marvel, Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park are also available. The
live auction is set for tomorrow inLos Angeles absentee bidding is already underway.

(11:33):
You're listening to Wake Up Call ondemand from KFI Am six forty. Speaking
of alcohol, I did go outand about I'm going to tell you about
that coming up at five thirty five. It's not all about the alcohol,
but that's part of the part ofthe equation. Here's what we're following.
In the KFI twenty four hour newsroom, President Biden says the shooting at the

(11:56):
Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally thatleft one person dead and twenty two others
hurt should move us, shock us, and shame us into acting. Three
people have been detained, one ofthem after fans tackled him and held him
down until police arrived. Up toa dozen of those hurt are children.
Former President Trump's going to be incourt today in Manhattan, where a judge

(12:18):
is expected to rule on his legalteam's request to throw the case out.
Trump's pleaded not guilty to thirty fourfelon accounts tied to hush money paid to
porn actress Stormy Daniels when he wasrunning for president the first time. Trump's
team's also going to be in courtin the election interference case in Georgia.
The city of La has voted toset up a reward program for people who

(12:39):
report copper wire theft. Thousands ofstreet lights across the city have gone dark
because of the thefts. City CouncilmanKevin dal Leone says there were more than
sixty eight hundred cases of copper wiretheft last year alone, and it costs
the city more than twenty million dollars. At six oh five Handle on the
News, a two year investigation hasled to seventeen people being arrested to a

(13:00):
big old drug trafficking ring right herein La. Let's say good morning now
to ABC's White House correspondent Karen Travers. Karen, the Senate has passed a
ninety five billion dollar foreign aid billfor Ukraine, Israel in Taiwan. Future
is uncertain at best in the House, and now Mike Johnson, the Speaker
of the House, wants to talkto President Biden. Yeah, that about

(13:24):
sums it all up. It's kindof, you know, a suspended state
of animation right now on Capitol Hill. The Senate passed that bill that would
give funding to Ukraine, Israel inTaiwan, but it did not include border
security measures. That was because theHouse last week made it clear they were
not going to move forward on thatbecause they didn't like what the Senate had
done in that bipartisan negotiation, sothe Senate stripped it out and just passed

(13:46):
the Foreign aid. Well, nowthe House Republicans are not moving forward on
what the Senate sent over because theysay it doesn't have border security in it,
and House Speaker Mike Johnson is askingfor a one on one meeting with
the President to negotiate border security, and the White House wasn't very shy,
holding, you know, with theirfrustration yesterday, saying you know, this

(14:07):
is not going to happen. ThePresident has declined meetings with Johnson because they
don't see what there is to negotiate. That's how Karine Jean Pierre, the
Press secretary, put it. Shesaid, what is the one on one
negotiation about when he has been presentedwith exactly what he asked for, referring
to Speaker Johnson and border security. So, you know, we're kind of

(14:28):
in this holding pattern right now, waiting to see what the next move is
on the House side of things, whether they take up the Senate passed bill.
Mike Johnson has made it clear he'snot moving forward on that. Do
they break it apart and do somebits of it to put up for a
vote. It's not clear what thenext step is and even some Republicans up
there are saying they don't know whatthe next move will be by the Speaker.

(14:50):
But in the meantime, the WhiteHouse is putting still immense pressure on
House Republicans to pass this aid forUkraine and for Israel and get it done
quickly. Okay, so the WhiteHouse and Karine Jean Pierre said he was
given he being Speaker to Johnson, was given just what he asked for,
But he really hasn't. I mean, they there was border security, but

(15:13):
it's really not. It didn't goas far as what the Republicans want.
So he wasn't really given what heasked for, and he's not going to
get exactly what he asked for becausethat's not how it works and divide government
right now, that's the reality, and that's what Republicans will say. In
the Senate. You know, youneed sixty votes to pass anything in the
Senate. That's why there are bipartisangroups that work out legislation over there.

(15:35):
That's why James Langford the Republican andChris Murphy the Democrats, spent months,
weeks, you know, they wereworking over the holiday break to try and
reach this agreement on border security, and they did get to that point because
they felt that they got to aplace where it could pass with sixty votes
in the Senate. And they basicallythen say to the House, you got

(15:56):
to take this and this is whatyou're going to get. And the House
responds is, well, we've alreadypassed a very conservative immigration bill and you
need to take this. That's justnot how it works right now. When
you have a Democrat in the WhiteHouse, the Democrats controlling the Senate,
and sixty votes needed to pass anythingin the Senate, it has to be
bipartisan over there. Right, Sojust from like perception to what I hear.

(16:18):
Sometimes when I see stuff, youknow, you hear something, you
go, but you said this, like Biden says, I'm willing to negotiate
on the border, which they did, right. But if he's willing to
negotiate, why not sit down andtalk with Johnson? I mean, the
White House will say because there wasan agreement, that that is the best

(16:38):
that can be done. Yeah, that is the best that could be reached
in order to pass in the Senate, and that that was the This is
again, this is what the WhiteHouse will say, and this is what
Senate Republicans have said too, thatthose were the toughest border reform measures put
on paper in decades. And whenthat's the best you can do, to

(16:59):
try and go at it again, you're not going to get any better than
that, okay, And hardliners aresaying we need better than that, So
okay, fun sale me. Thankyou, Karen Travers, appreciate the information.
Have a great day. We needher help to help things get sorted
out, don't we. Let's getback to some of the stories coming out
of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Criminal charges are expected to be filed

(17:21):
against two men accused of going ona shooting spree that killed four people in
southeastern La County, including a fourteenyear old boy. Sheriff's investigators say the
shootings late Sunday into Monday appear tobe random acts of violence. One of
the men arrested as forty two,the others twenty. DA George Gascone is
expected to announce charges against both menlater this morning. Defense lawyers have called

(17:42):
experts to dispute charges alleging Rebecca Grossmankilled two boys in Westlake Village while intoxicated
and speeding. One expert used videofrom the scene in twenty twenty to estimate
Grossman's speed at fifty two miles perhour, despite crash data from Grossman's SUV
clocking her at eighty one second beforethe crash. A former detective yesterday claimed
Grossman didn't appear drunk and didn't fleethe scene. Grossman's husband testified he can't

(18:07):
recall her ever speeding. However, jurors didn't get to hear about Grossman's four
prior speeding tickets, but did getto hear that Grossman previously told a CHP
officer during a stop for speeding thatshe hopes he never needs the Grossman burn
Center at van I's Courthouse. CorbinCarson, k if I News Irvine policer
trying to find a woman who walkedinto a store, filled her cart with
eighteen hundred dollars worth of chewing gumand walked out without paying. It happened

(18:32):
in late January. Police say thewoman is also suspected of committing similar gum
thefts its stores across Orange County.Efforts to get a grounded commercial fishing boat
near Bodega Bay back in the waterhave failed. Hunter Schnabel with the US
Coast Guard in San Francisco says thefifty eight foot boat got stuck last Friday.
Attempts were made to try to towthe vessel out of the beach,

(18:52):
Sir, and those were ultimately unsuccessful. Schnabel says some fuel leaked into the
ocean, and they're trying to removeas much diesel as they can to mitigate
pollution and other environmental impacts. FormerPresident Trump has said that if he returns
to the White House, he wouldnot defend NATO members that don't meet defense
spending target. Trump told an audiencein South Carolina yesterday, if they're not

(19:17):
going to pay, we're not goingto protect. Trump also says he's against
the foreign aid package approved by theSenate that we were just talking to Karen
about. It includes sixty billion dollarsin aid for Ukraine. Trump says the
US should provide a loan to Ukraineinstead of just handing the money over.
The makers of Squish Mellows and Builda Bear have sued each other over copycat

(19:38):
accusations. The lawsuit, filed Mondayby Squish Mellows accuses Build a Bear's new
Schooshers product of copying the look andfeel of the popular Squish stuffed animals.
Build a Bear counter sued, sayingScooshers are based on the company's original stuffed
animals, which have been around foryears. The really important stuff you're listening

(20:03):
to wake Up Call on Demand fromKFI AM six forty. We have rabbits
right outside the front door here atthe iHeart Studios. I don't need one
in my house. Plus I don'tthink the cats like it, and I
can bout guarantee that the money wouldn'tlike the cats. It is five thirty
four on your wake up Call.Good morning, Happy Thursday. I'm Amy

(20:23):
King. Thanks for getting your daystarted. Or right here with us at
KFI. Here's what we're following inthe KFI twenty four our newsroom. The
House Intelligence Committee is warned of aserious national security threat Ohio Republican Mike Turner.
Mike Turner brought the threat to light, saying it's related to Russia wanting
to launch a nuclear weapon into space, so it could take out our satellites.

(20:45):
Two climate protesters have been arrested forallegedly dumping pink powder over the case
protecting the US Constitution at the NationalArchives in Washington, d C. Officials
say the Constitution does not appear tohave been damaged. Another big storms headed
towards southern California, and that couldmean flooding. The brunt of the storm
is expected to hit late Sunday throughTuesday, with two to five inches of

(21:08):
rain across the La Basin, upto eight inches expected in the mountains,
and several feet of snow could fallabove the seven thousand foot level. At
six oh five, it's handle onthe news. Space Wars has taken on
a whole new meeting as the USwarns Russia wants to launch a nuclear weapon
into orbit. At five point fifty, we're going to be talking to one

(21:29):
of our own who needs our help. I hope you'll stick around for that.
That's just fifteen minutes away. Rightnow, it's time off the road
again, going places that I've neverbeen seeing things. As you may know,
I go out and about around southernCalifornia quite a bit. Share some

(21:51):
of the really cool things there areto do in our area. And you
don't have to go too far tohave a really great experience when you live
in some place like southern California. But this last weekend, I wind a
little waves away if you're looking fora fun weekend get away and a great
experience. And as we've talked aboutbefore, like people are looking for more
experiences rather than stuff these days.So maybe it becomes a Valentine's Day weekend,

(22:18):
or maybe it's a birthday present weekendor something like that. But here's
something to consider. Pasa Robels. If you want great wine, beautiful views,
really cool boutique hotels, and afun little town square with lots of
shopping and restaurants, Pasa Robyls placeto go. It's about three hours from
La So I go and I usuallytake the five up for about two hours
and then cut over and it's aboutthen an hour longer. Or you could

(22:42):
go up the one on one ifyou want to go the scenic route,
go through Santa Barbara and get upthere and the town itself, if you
haven't been there, it's it's sucha cool little place. There's this little
town square, like this old fashionedtown square, big park in the middle,
and then shops lying like three sidesof it all the way around,
and there's restaurants and there's shopping, and there's plenty of tasting rooms. Like

(23:04):
if you want to just stay inthe city center, if you want to
call it a city because it's verysmall, you can stay right there and
do it all. Now, ifyou want to venture out into the countryside
like we did, there are winerieseverywhere. In fact, I looked it
up. There are more than twohundred wineries in the Paso Robols area.
And the wines are fantastic. Ithink they they didn't used to be,

(23:26):
but they've really grown grown into them, like they've come into their own and
Paso Robls has some of the bestwine that I've tasted in a very long
time. There are some larger wineriesthat you might have heard of, like
Justin and Eberley and even the Ribbleyfamily which makes Tella Rosa. Out in
the country, there's these boutique wineries. They have these gorgeous little tasting rooms

(23:48):
and they're kind of situated in themiddle of acres and acres of vineyards,
so it's really picturesque. And oneof the great things about passo is that
you can go to your favorite wineries, but there's all always new ones to
try. Like I said, there'stwo hundred of them. When we went
up this last weekend, my friendswho live in the area, they do
wine tasting with their friends quite often, but they decided, let's go try

(24:11):
new ones, and so we wentto a couple new ones, and one
of them was called hawk Hill,so good. The tasting room was made
in an old stable, but it'sfixed up, like gutted, and is
really really nice and classy, andthe wines were terrific and so much that
I joined their wine club. Butit definitely you want to make a weekend
of it, because it takes likethree hours to get there, so you

(24:33):
don't want to do wine tasting andthen drive home, So make a weekend
of it. There are cool hotelsin town, some of the wineries have
their own rooms, and plus there'reBnB and verbos and that kind of stuff.
But like I said, definitely plannedfor a weekend. It can be
a little spendy, so planned forthat. It's become quite the popular destination,

(24:56):
and when things become popular, theprices go up. The wineries still
require reservations they implemented that when theyreopened during the pandemic, but they've just
kept that. And the cool thingabout that actually is that when you go
to a winery, it's not goingto be super crowded like when I've gone
to some of the wineries like inTemecula, for example, which also has
some good wineries, that the tastingrooms are so crowded you barely can get

(25:22):
in and there's no room for you. So with the reservation system, there's
always a spot for you, andyou have a person who can talk to
you and walk you through everything. Some of them have snacks, most of
them don't, so either planned topack a picnic or have a lunch in
town before you head out. Andhere's the other cool thing. If you
don't want to drive and you don'thave a designated driver, and you do
need a designated driver if you're goingto be out wine tasting, you can

(25:45):
book buses or jeeps or even alimo. But they have those services up
there and you can google it andfind them. We ran into a guy
who has a jeep service and soit's like a it's a jeep wrangler or
something like that, and it's openair and it's just really like I was
like, how fun is that youjust ride around all day and do that
anytime of years? Kind of good. It was like sixty and sixty five
and sunny while we were there. But in the summer it does get a

(26:08):
little hot, so you need toplan for it. But again, whether
it's with your sweetie or with agroup of girls or a group of guys,
it's a fabulous weekend getaway. SoI recommend you two go out and
about Tapasa Robos. Let's get backto some of the stories coming out of
the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. One person has been killed and nearly two
dozen others hurt in a shooting nearthe Chief's Super Bowl parade in Missouri.

(26:32):
The shooting happened outside Union Station yesterdayand the cities packed downtown area. At
least nine of those shot are kids. They were treated at Children's hospital.
Kansas City Mayor Quentin Lucas says thethreat of mass shootings is becoming a regular
concern in large crowd. We hadover eight hundred officers there staffed situated all
around Union Station. We had securityin any number of places, eyes on

(26:57):
top of buildings and on and therestill is a risk to people. Tens
of thousands of people showed up tocelebrate the team's victory before the shooting happened.
Three people have been detained. Ahomeless man's been arrested in Long Beach
for allegedly stealing a car with afour year old boy in the backseat.
The theft Tuesday night triggered an Amberalert. The boy was later found in

(27:18):
the abandoned car, still in hiscar car seat. Please a security video
help them find the suspected car thief. He was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping,
child endangerment, and car theft.Firefighters are urging voters to reject a
ballot measure that would slow traffic onmany streets in La. Changes the city
would make under Measure HLA include implementingbike lanes protected by curbs and implementing dedicated

(27:44):
bus lanes. LA City Fire CaptainBrian Assour says the possible changes have him
worried for public safety. The lafd'saverage response on for any critical response for
als is six minutes and fourteen seconds. Measure HLA is only going to slow
us down more than twenty five hundredmiles of streets would be affected. Proponents
of the measures say it will makestreets safer. But like trolley k if

(28:07):
I news. So, have youever wondered why vegan burgers taste so good?
I just found this story. Ijust had to share it, nick
Er. Do you know why veganburgers taste so good? That's what vegan
burgers? Yes? So have youever had a vegan burger? Oh?

(28:30):
Yeah, I've had several. Nowwait are we talking? Yeah, impossible
burger beyond meat those things right yeah, plant based meats. Yeah, so
yeah, I know I've had them. They're tasty, but right, I
always get a little freaked out becausethey do such a good job replicating what
a burger is. Like, yeah, they bleed and there's no there's no
meat in them, so right, like they have pea protein and potato starch

(28:52):
and coconut oil and micoproteins, superhighly processed. But I found out a
little secret. They taste good becausethey're putting animal fats in some of them.
Stop, way does that get well? I it's not regular an animal
fat, it's they're growing fat inlaboratories. Isn't that nice? See that

(29:18):
says gross too and They also useanimal byproducts from traditional meat production and blend
it in with the plant ingredients tocreate those pieces of like shredded steak,
and yes, the co founder ofa company called Choppy, Yeah, they're

(29:40):
doing. It's fundamentally difficult to makeplants taste like meat, she says,
it would be impossible. So nexttime you try a vegan impossible burger,
look at the ingredients and see what'sactually in there. I don't. I
also don't eat them because they're sohighly processed. And I think, if
you're really going to be vegan, eat some nuts and fruits, right,

(30:03):
But they have like impostor kind ofeverything these days. But so next time
you take a bite into a veganburger and you go, boy, that
sure tastes good. Animal fat mightbe why huh wild. We've got the
Food and Wine Festival coming up atDisney California Adventure, so I bet you
will get some of the d tastyimpossible meat or maybe a beyond burger.
So okay, that will be theexception that'll be when I try it.

(30:26):
Oh sure, for sure, No, of course, because it'll be delicious.
But still, yeah, Okay, you're listening to a wake up call
on demand from KFI Am six forty. Here's what we're following in the KFI
twenty four hour newsroom. President Bidensays the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs
Super Bowl rally that left one persondead and twenty two others hurt, including
children, should move us, shockus, and shame us into acting.

(30:49):
Three people have been detained, oneof them after fans tackled him and held
them down until police showed up.The city of La has voted to set
up a reward program for people whowere copper wire theft. Thousands of street
lights across the city have gone darkbecause of the theft. City Councilman Kevin
da Leon says there were more thansixty eight hundred cases of copper wire theft

(31:11):
just last year, costa city abouttwenty million dollars. Six hikers have been
airlifted off Mount Baldy. The groupwas rescued yesterday after getting stuck in the
snow on Bear Canyon Trail at aboutthe nine thousand foot level. It's the
latest in several rescues in the lastcouple of weeks. A twenty two year
old woman hiking alone during the lastbig storm died on the mountain. We're
just minutes away from a handle onthe news, Israeli forces have moved into

(31:34):
the last working hospital in the GazaStrip. Right now, let's say good
morning to our very own Mondo.Mondo is the producer of the Gary and
Shannon Show. He's also an awardwinning Guacamly maker, although he never brings
Manny, and one of the nicestguys at the radio station. Good morning,
Mondo, Good morning baby. Howare you? I'm good and I

(31:57):
know you're good, but you arein need of something, so I'm not
sure if we ask, make theask now or give the backstory. Okay,
so the backstory is I'm a heartkidney transplant recipient and sorry heart kidney
and bone barrow. I got itdone during the pandemic, right at when

(32:21):
it started. I was in thehospital and my transplant going. And but
last year I got an infection calledthe b front the BK virus, which
is something that everybody has, butit just got reactivated in my system because
my loan immune system, and itdid some damage to my kidney. So
now I'm currently on the process ofgetting on the kidney transplant list for a

(32:45):
new kidney. So you've got youalready got one, you need another?
Okay, So let's let's talk alittle bit about one. The suppressed immune
system. Like you said that it'swhat's it called the BK infection? Yeah,
it was a BK virus. Viruseverybody has. Okay, so when

(33:06):
as a kid, but you builda meaning to it so you know it
doesn't affect you. Yeah, okay. And the reason that it affects you
is because you have a low immunesystem. And why do you have a
low immune system, Well, youhave to need a low immune system,
so I don't get any uh somy organs can can cooperate with my system
so they don't get rejected. Okay. So basically, when you get the

(33:30):
transplant, because you have a newheart and you have a new kidney,
and your body will go that thatdidn't come with you, that shouldn't be
there, and so your body willgo after it, and so they suppress
your immune system so it doesn't tryto attack the organ. Correct. Yeah,

(33:50):
And thankfully, none none of thathas happened. Everything has been working
properly. There's been no rejection atall, which is great. But but
what since I have a low newssystem. When I get sick, either
with knock on wood covid luckily haven'tgotten, or like a flu or you
know, anything kind of minor,it hits me a lot harder than anything

(34:14):
else. So I'm susptible to eatgetting the you know, vk virs or
even with foods like I can't haveanything that's raw or or anything that's medium,
well like a steak. If Ihave a steak, it's got to
be well done. Everything's got tobe cooked for you. There's no no
savice, no no soft cheeses.Everything has to be pasteurized. Wow,

(34:36):
and stuff like that. Yeah, okay, And that's similar because our own
Neil uh Savad or the Fork reporter, he had a kidney transplant as well,
so I've heard him talk about thathe can't have things like over easy
eggs. Yeah. Correct, Andnow that's one of my loves. I
used to love having over easy eggs. Well, okay, so you got

(34:58):
the and is your the transplant ofkidney is it not working at all or
is it just it's working? Butit's that I believe it's at thirteen percent
is what it's at. When it'sat ten percent, that's when it's in
complete failure, but they wanted meat thirteen percent. They wanted me to

(35:20):
start me on dialysis just so thatit's not putting its wustrain on the kidney
as possible. They don't want meto start dialysis when I'm in kidney failure
because they need to know how howmuch damage it's already been done. So
they're kind of easily into it easy. I'm kind of easy into kidney failure
in the sense. So I'm ondialysis right now, and I do that
twice a day. Twice a day. Yeah, so you know, get

(35:45):
home, go buy my business, and then I do my first dialysis and
it stays in your system for abouttwo hours, and then I do the
second dose, which is a longerdose. It's about eight hours. And
I do that before you go tobed, and then I wake up and
you know, get to Dallas outof me and and start my life.

(36:06):
Okay, And and you you doit at home. You don't go to
a clinic, right, Yeah, correct, I do it at home.
It's called PD. There's different typesyou can do. That's you know,
you hooked up to a machine.I do mine manually, so it looks
kind of like an IV and soit's not and it doesn't take that much
energy out of me, So I'mnot kind of out of it afterwards or

(36:29):
anything like that. Yeah, becausewhen you're hooked up to a machine or
it's a different different types of dallasscan take a lot of energy out of
you. Okay, And I justgot to tell you so for I mean,
you guys have heard Mondo and thatkind of stuff because he's been with
Gary and Shannon forever and he reallyis one of the nicest guys and has
had a rough go. And beforeyou had your transplants, I remember you

(36:52):
not being well and so it wasso fun to see you be well.
We want you to stay well.Yeah, thank you. Yeah, it
was a it was quite a battleprior to you because I was It's interesting
how your body when your body's notworking, how it shows. Yeah.
So I was like gaining a lotof water weight before my transplants, where

(37:14):
I would have to go to thehospital practically every other week to get drained
from all the excessive water and liquidI was retaining. And and then and
then it was better and more youcould tell you looked better, and so
we want Mando to stay that way, So, Mondo, if somebody,
you know, if there's somebody andGod's looking down on us right now,

(37:36):
who is willing to donate a kidney? Is that an option for you?
Yes? Actually is. I'm goingto talk to my innursing state and see
what the process is and what theactual testing is. But if you can
email me at I make guacamole atgmail dot com. I make guacamole,
yeah, at gmail dot com.And I know some people shout on my

(38:00):
Instagram as well, which is great. Thank you so much. I love
you know for the love and support. But I had to find out actually
what the testing is and to seewhat that process is. Okay, but
I'd love to get throw it out. Thank you. Okay, Mondo,
We're going to find you a kidneyone way or the other. Dude.
Awesome, all right, thank youso much, blakam only if I can.

(38:21):
So, if we get your kidney, you'll finally bring me some guacamole.
Yes, you got it. Isare the best. We'll see you
in a little bit, all right. Kid. You've been listening to wake
