(00:00):
You're listening to KFI AM six fortyWake Up Call with me Amy King on
demand on the iHeartRadio app, Wednesday, February twenty First, I'm Amy King.
On this wet and soggy day drivingin today. I will tell you
yesterday we talked about this not sobad. Today is another story. So

(00:23):
if you're on the roads this morning, wow, be careful because driving in
today, just along the five, there was lots of standing water. And
it might be because there haven't beenthat many people on the road yet,
but lots of standing water. AndI felt a lot of little potholes too,
I'm worried about. They were small, thank goodness, but they were

(00:45):
new ones because I was driving yesterdayand didn't feel it. But it was
bump bump, bump, bump bump. And then Tony, you were driving
in on the two ten and youwere white knuckling it. Huh oh on
the fight on the fire Oh youwere on the fhe I'm just yeah,
it was just just airtime you hitthat, you hear that noise, you
know, right, would you know? When? Well, I'm just in
water right now. Yeah, there'sno traction there. So yeah, I
was going about forty five miles anhour and not a lot of people passing

(01:10):
me, but a couple. Sojust be extra careful. I know that
the band that came through earlier,I don't know if it's going to continue,
although we are supposed to still havesome heavy rain. Man, it
felt like somebody just opened the waterspicket and it was just dumping down.
It was crazy, and then itwould stop and it was I was like,
oh, it sounds like somebody turnedthe water off. I mean yeah,

(01:32):
So anyway, we got more.We got some rain continuing for a
little while, but it's supposed toclear out my lighter today and then guess
what, we're going to see somesunshine. So there was another debate debate
last night, the US Senate debatefor the seat that was held by Diane
Feinstein for years and years and years. It was the final debate before the
March fifth election. And Uh,as I've told you before, I'm kind

(01:56):
of obsessed with these things. I'mreally interested to watch them. I like
to see what the candidates think,if you can, if they can get
their thoughts out. This one wasnot to me any more exciting than the
other two. I still think thatSteve Garvey, he's the Republican in the
race, and then the Democrats areAdam Schiff and Katie Porter and Barbara Lee.
I think that Steve Garvey kind ofcomes across as the grown up in

(02:19):
the room. He's calm and he'sthoughtful, but then he also comes across
as like, dude, spit yourthoughts out, because he's obviously not a
professional debater, and I think hetakes a little time like I'm doing right
now, takes too much time tospit his thoughts out. Adam Shift was
pretty calm until he brings up DonaldTrump's name, and then he just loses
it. It's almost comical to watchhe just loses his mind when he starts

(02:43):
talking about Donald Trump. And Iwill say the one thing I will say
is I think that the moderators dida pretty good job of keeping control of
the debate. But when they saytalk about climate change, you have thirty
seconds. That's not enough, whichagain is why I think I think they
need to come up with a newway to debate, because I want to
hear more in depth about what theyhave to say. Again, thirty seconds

(03:07):
to cure or to fix climate changejust doesn't cut it. Here's what's ahead
on wake up call. The stormmoving through southern California has dumped four inches
of rain on Los Angeles. That'sthe most we've seen in one day in
twenty years. The heavy rain shouldtape her off later today, but snow
is still expected in the mountains asthe storm moves east. Israeli strikes across

(03:28):
Gaza have killed at least sixty sevenPalestinians overnight, including in areas where civilians
were told to seek refuge. Doctorswithout Borders says two more people were killed
when a shelter housing staff in theGaza Strip was hit. We're going to
be finding out the latest from Gazawhen we talk with ABC's Geordana Miller in
Jerusalem in just a couple of minutes. The Biden administration has announced over a

(03:52):
billion dollars of student loan debt forgiveness. About one hundred and fifty three thousand
borrowers in the Saving on a ValuableEducation or SAVE program who've made at least
ten years of payments are going tobe getting an email from the President today.
The Biden administration has now approved lonereally for nearly three point nine million
Americans at six oh five handle onthe news. Residents in Rancho palace Verti

(04:13):
say they need help as the landunderneath them continues to shift. Let's start
with some of the stories coming outof the KFI twenty four hour newsroom.
The storm moving through southern California,as I mentioned, has dumped four inches
of rain in LA in a singleday. That's the most single day rain
total we've seen in over twenty years. NBC meteorologist Angie Lastman says it's almost

(04:34):
over. We're going to eventually,as the day goes on, see that
rain for southern California, even centralCalifornia and taper off. We will still
see some of these scattered showers acrossportions of the northwestern United States, but
that system will kick out to theRockies and that's where we'll see some additional
snow through the day today. Theflesh flood warning that has been issued in
La goes through nine o'clock this morning. Rancho Palasvertes is asking Governor Newsom to

(04:58):
declare a state of emerg urgency becauseof worsening land movement. LA County Supervisor
Janis Hans says the land has beenshifting for decades and the city needs its
own state of emergency store makes itworse. We're all on pins and needles
every time we see the rain. But this is bigger than that, and
what's happening in Ranta Palacaries is biggerthan the city. It's bigger than the

(05:19):
county. The request to submit aletter to Newsom was unanimously approved that last
night's council meeting. The city willalso ask Newsom to request federal aid from
President Biden. An LA City firefighterhurt in a truck explosion in Wilmington is
alert and talking. The thirty sevenyear old is a nine year veteran of
LA Fire and was one of ninefirefighters hurt last week when a truck that

(05:43):
runs on compressed natural gas exploded. He's the only one still in the hospital.
Officials say he was removed from aventilator yesterday. He's been moved from
the ICU to a regular burn unit. Let's good say say good morning to
Oh. We don't have Nick,no Nick. So we're going to go
right to ABC's Jordana Miller, whois in Jerusalem. Jordana, we're just

(06:05):
getting word that air strikes overnight killedsixty seven Palestinians in areas where they've been
told to seek refuge. Well, most of those deaths actually have come from
attack on central Gaza and the southerntip of Gaza City, that is northern

(06:26):
Gaza. But there were some reporteddeaths near Malassee, which is the safest
zone. I won't call it asafe zone because it is still as last
night proved, still coming under fire, you know, on and off during
this war. You know, Israelmoving back to certain parts of the northern

(06:51):
Gaza strip that it claims was clearedof HAMAF fighters, showing that there's still
pockets of resistance even in northern Gaza. The rest of the Israeli army is
focused. Most of their fighters arein Communists still, which is down in
the south, destroying tunnel down.Communist is in the south, correct,

(07:14):
fighting you know, fighting Hamas therelooking for Hamasa's leader, Signore, and
that's where is really the hostages arebeing held in the tunnels underneath communists.
Okay, and then Jordana, wealso got word that this is just not
great news for the Palestinian people byany stretch. The World Food Program says

(07:35):
it's pausing deliveries of food in northernGaza because it's just too chaotic in the
area. That's right. The WorldFood Program essentially says they've suspended their delivery
of food to Northern Gaza. Rememberthis is a part of the Gaza strip
that is very inaccessible already because ofthe presence of Hamak fighters, and it

(08:05):
is far from the Rafa border andit is just simply difficult for aid trucks
to make it all the way upthere. This is terrible news and it
comes on the heels of a reportby UNISF that one out of six children
in northern Gaza are suffering from acutemalnutrition. That the you know, poverty

(08:26):
or starvation rate, the cute malnutritionrate the northern Gauza of fifteen percent and
down in the south about five percent, where before the war it was only
about one percent, to give youan idea of how much it has spiked.
So this is raising fears of youknow, starvation in northern Gaza.
I will say that we are hearinginitial reports that Israel is preparing to reopen

(08:52):
the Carnie crossing and where the Northerncrossing, it's a northern crossing between Israel
and the Gaza strip and that wouldtremendously help that crossing with an industrial crossing
was closed ten years ago. Ohokay, so that big moves. Yeah,

(09:13):
it's just it's it's terrible and heartbreaking. Yeah, and still you want
hamasure the people that are just likecollateral damage. So yeah, it's terrefunning.
Okay. So then let's talk toabout the UN Security Council vote yesterday
demanding an immediate cease fire, andthen the that doesn't hold because the US

(09:37):
immediately vetoed it. That's right,I mean everyone expected President Biden to vetow
this at the UN because to callfor an immediate too fire would essentially leave
Kumas in control of the Gaudza Strip. They've certainly been hit by this war,
but they are still fighting fiercely inthe south. They still have six

(09:58):
battalions that are intact, their leadersare alive, they're holding those one hundred
and thirty two hostages. So itwas clear that the President was going to,
you know, to to veto this. The United States is now and
today we're seeing more talks in Cairopushing for a hostage deal and a temporary

(10:20):
ceasefire that would be linked to obviouslya release of some of the hostages and
a boost and aid to Gaza,so that instead of going through the UN,
the president is really working on thattrack, even though the United States
presented another version of that UN butresolution. But if you look at it,
it's mirrors the negotiation in the talkTomorrow, the President's Bomboyd Brett McGirk

(10:46):
is coming to Jerusalem. You know, God willing there'll be some progress,
okay, and well we will bewatching it. Jordana Miller, thank you
so much for the information and theupdate. Thanks so soon. All right,
let's get back to some of thestories coming out of the KFI twenty
four hour newsroom. One person hasbeen arrested for a small explosion near a
shopping center in Tustin. Police saysomeone set off an ilegal mortar like firework

(11:11):
yesterday in front of the shopping centerthat produced a loud boom. The bomb
squad had to be called in tomake sure that the area was safe.
One person has been detained, noone was hurt. One teenager has been
killed and two others were hurt duringa crash involving a stolen car in Encina.
Laped officer say while on patrol theynoticed a car without its lights on

(11:31):
southbound on Balboen. As they triedto pull over the driver, the driver
kept going. Moments later, officerssay the car turned left onto Ventura Boulevard,
struck a light pole, and burstinto flames. The crash happened just
after midnight yesterday, and officers wereable to rescue the driver in front seat
passenger. The passenger in the backseat died on scene. The driver of
the car was a fourteen year oldgirl, and the car had been reported
stolen by a relative of someone inthe car. Steve Gregory Kapine News.

(11:56):
Public schools in California would be requiredto have armed police officers under new state
bill. Under the bill, thestate would pay for the officer's salaries.
Assemblyman Bill A. Saley says Californiahas had ninety six school shootings between twenty
eighteen and twenty twenty three. Policeresponse time can mean the difference between life
and death in these tragic situations.Charter schools would also be required to have

(12:18):
armed officers under the bill. Thebill will need to pass the Education Committee
and Appropriations Committee before the full Assemblycan vote on it. Blake Trolley k
if I Knews two men in KansasCity, Missouri been charged with murder for
a shooting during the chief's Super Bowlvictory parade and rally. Court papers say
the men were strangers who pulled outguns last week and started firing within seconds

(12:41):
of starting an argument. A womanworking as a DJ was killed. About
two dozen others were hurt, includingthe men charge. They are still in
the hospital. A six day searchfor a missing girl in Texas has come
to a tragic end. Polk CountySheriff Byron Lyons says eleven year old Audrey
Cunningham was found dead yesterday in ariver not far from her house. The

(13:01):
Srif's office. We will continue toprocess the evidence that have been gathered to
assure justice for undred alliances and arrestwarrant is being prepared against a man considered
a family friend. The man wasthe last person to see the girl alive
last Thursday, and had promised totake her to the school bus stop.
The DA says he will be chargedwith capital murder. US household debt is

(13:24):
over seventeen trillion dollars. That's accordingto the Federal Reserve. Interest rates can
add up quick so Iowa State UniversityExtension Financial counselor Ryan Stewart's shopping around for
credit cards is a good idea.Bank credit cards through a local bank or
maybe one of the national institutions thatyou see tend to be a little on
the lower side. Stuart says, retail credit cards tend to have higher interest

(13:48):
rates, sometimes topping thirty percent whenwe come back, while some of your
pictures are showing up on other people'scameras, and how AI is helping kids
learn how to read better, lotsof fun tech stuff coming up with our
tech guy, Rich Demiro. You'relistening to Wake Up Call on Demand from
KFI AM six forty. Here's whatwe're following in the KFI twenty four hour

(14:11):
newsroom. Floodwatches and warnings are upas a winter storm continues to dump rain
on southern California. The flood warningis from Malibu, Agora Hills, Woodland
Hills, and Sino Beverly Hills,North Hollywood, Hollywood Long listed cities,
Universal City, Burbank, Griffith Park, Malibu Creek State Park, Calabasas,
Westlake Village to Penga State Park,Point Doom, Pacific Palisades, Newbury Park,

(14:35):
and Brentwood and that flood warning ineffect until nine this morning. Man,
the rain has been coming down hard. Thirteen pit bulls have been euthanized.
The dogs were put down by animalcontrol after a thirty five year old
man in Compton was muled to deathby at least five of the dogs last
week. Investigators believe the man whowas breeding and selling the pit bulls was
attacked while he fed them. Thursdaynight, Beatlemania set to hit theaters in

(14:58):
a big way. Sam Mendez willdirect four movies, each one focusing on
one member of the Fab Four.Mendez says he's honored to be telling the
story of the greatest rock band ofall time, but you're gonna have to
wait a while to see them. The films won't be in theaters until twenty
twenty seven. At six oh five, it's handled on the news. Two

(15:18):
people have been charged with murder inthe Kansas City Chiefs Parade shooting. Let's
say good morning to KTLA's tech reporterand the host of Rich on Tech right
here on KFI. It's Rich Demiro. Good morning, Rich. Hey,
they're good morning to you. Amy. Okay, so since it's so wet
and soggy today, let's let's kickoff by talking about the iPhone and what
happens if it gets wet and soggy. Yeah. So, you know,

(15:41):
for years we've heard to dry outan iPhone or you know, any smartphone,
you would put it in a bedof rice and it would dry it
out over you know, period oftime, and it would be fine.
But now, according to a newApple support document, they say, do
not use rice to dry out thephone. Why because rice particles could get
into that port and damage it.Wow, so you're probably wondering what do

(16:03):
I do instead? I am?I am wondering. Rich They actually laid
out pretty clearly. They say tokind of place the phone against your hand,
kind of tap it a little bitto get the excess water out of
the bottom port. Then they sayto let it dry for at least a
half an hour, plug in thecable. If you get that warning that
says it's still wet, take outthe cable. Leave it to dry for

(16:23):
up to a twenty four hours. They say, do not use like a
hair dryer, do not spray anyair into it, do not use a
cotton swab. Basically, just letit dry out. Okay, So if
it like and does this apply, like, can you save your phone if
you drop it in the sink?Yeah. I mean, here's the thing.

(16:44):
You know, iPhones in almost everymodern smartphone is water resistance. So
it's going to be fine. It'sjust a matter of it's not water proof.
So these are not meant for likeunderwater cameras. And yes, when
they're still when they're wet, they'restill electronic. A little bit of moisture
could get in there. You justwant that moisture to dry out sometime.
You know, most of the timeit'll be just fine. Okay, that's
good to know. I've never hadthat experience, and I'm hoping that I

(17:07):
don't, but I know a lotof people like my nephew who dove into
the pool with his iPhone in hispocket, he's experienced. Yeah, and
it may not dry out immediately, that's the thing. And people try to
plug it in and they say,oh my gosh, it's ruined. But
plugging it in could actually you know, short circuit or ruin it. So
you want to make sure that you'reletting it dry sufficiently. Okay, So
be patient and let nature do itsthink. Tell us about how pictures are

(17:32):
showing up on other people's cameras.Yeah, this is a pretty wild breach.
Why Security Camera is very popular startup. They came out with a twenty
dollars camera back in like I don'tknow, twenty nineteen, twenty seventeen,
and a lot of people like thiscompany because the cameras are inexpensive and they
had a lot of great features. But over the weekend, it turns out

(17:52):
that they had a security glitch wherethe cameras went offline, and when they
came back online, people, youknow, customers opened up their apps and
they saw other people's camera footage inthere like other bait. That's weird.
Yeah, like thumbnails, It wasn'tlike you couldn't log in and see someone
else like a live stream of theircamera, but the thumbnail would show like
someone else's camera view and then youcan click that and maybe get a little

(18:17):
tiny preview. So this affected thirteenthousand customers. Fifteen hundred customers actually tapped
and said like wait what and tappedand saw a bigger view of the image.
Okay, and so that was wasit because the glitch in the system
or was it a hack or dothey know what happened? It was not
a hack, so basically the systemwent offline and when it came back online,

(18:41):
the software they were using was soflooded with every single user trying to
get back online at the same timeor all these cameras you know, connecting
to the internet, and so itbasically misfiled, like it didn't line up
the people with their apps properly. And so they said, we are going
to fix this. We actually cameout with the soft update that if this
ever happens again, there will bea you know, it basically can't happen

(19:03):
again. That's what they're saying.Okay, and this is for Wise cameras,
which I hadn't heard of before,but it's Wysee and they're WISE the
home security systems. Yep, they'revery popular. And you know, I
have a couple of them, andI've talked about them for years. But
this is you know, this islike their second or third time they've had
a little issue. Now this isthe startup, so you know, you
have to understand that. But thereality is you don't want to hear this

(19:26):
when it comes to your security cameras. Yeah it and I know, like
it reminds me of the cloud, like it says, oh, here back
everything up to the cloud. Thatalways makes me nervous because I'm like,
I don't want everybody to have allmy stuff. Well, the best cloud
is always end to end encrypted. So if you ever see that option,
that is the best option because thatmeans that you and only you and only

(19:48):
your devices can access the stuff that'son the cloud, even if someone else
got a hold of it. Butyou know, it's very complicated and more
expensive to do that, and sonot every provider offers that, and not
everyone enables that. Okay, endto end note to self if I ever
go and put stuff on the cloud. Okay. You know we've talked about
AI, and there are concerns thatAI can be bad and maybe lead to

(20:11):
the destruction of humanity, But thereare some really cool things that AI is
doing, and Microsoft has one ofthem. Yeah. I went over to
Laplente and a school over there ispart of a test pilot where they're trying
this new Microsoft Reading Coach and thisis a really neat AI tool because you
know, kids need to read betterand read more, and so this tool

(20:33):
is kind of fun because they choosethe character of the story, the setting
of the story, and their readinglevel and AI generates a custom story for
them on the fly, it listensto them read that story, and then
it grades their proficiency. And soteachers what used to take a couple of
days to listen to every single studentand how they're reading. This takes,

(20:53):
you know, in real time. You could do a whole class and it
highlights the words that they had troublewith and it gives you their proficiency.
It's completely free, and my kidtried it out last night. It's pretty
cool and it's called Microsoft Reading Coach. Microsoft Reading Coach. I'll put a
link on my website and it's free. You just need to log in with
a Microsoft account. It is beta, so it's not perfect, like,

(21:15):
not every feature works perfectly, butfor a free, you know, way
to help your kids read better, especially if they're struggling a little bit,
this is a really nice tool. And of course I asked Microsoft about the
safety, you know, concerns ofAI and they said they did build in
a lot of guardrails to make sureit's safe for kids. Okay, so
here's my question, because you saidyour son tried it out. When it

(21:36):
is customizing things and then gently guidingwhen mistakes are made and that kind of
stuff. Does it talk to yourkid? It doesn't talk, but it
just you know, on the screen. It'll say, here's the words you
had trouble with, and then itwill yeah, basically, and then it'll
show you your proficiency. It'll showyou the words and that kind of stuff.

(21:56):
So it does use your microphone tolisten to you talking to the app,
but it doesn't like say, no, this is how you pronounce it,
not that I saw. No.So you still need people, oh
you still look, you still needpeople no matter what. Although I will
tell you my kid is learning Italianon dual Lingo and I'm very impressed with

(22:18):
how much he's learned. And healso, you know, took kindergarten and
Zoom and he learned how to readand write. So you know, look,
this stuff is pretty wild. Thesekids are learning in ways that we
never imagined, I know. Andso now when they grow up and they
say they think they know it all, they probably actually will. Yeah,
they probably he actually does, likehe yeah, a lot of you.
I call it YouTube university. Allright. This is KTLA's tech reporter,

(22:41):
Rich Demiro. He is the hostof Rich on Tech. Right here on
KFI, you can listen to GreatTech Advice from eleven to two on Saturdays.
You can also follow Rich on Instagramat rich on Tech and his website
rich on Tech dot Tv. Thanksso much, Rich, We'll talk to
you next week. Thank you.Amy. All right, let's get back
to some of this or he's comingout of the CAFI twenty four hour newsroom.

(23:02):
LAPD Chief More says he has concernsabout the fatal police shooting downtown of
a man holding a plastic fork.Moore told the Police Commission yesterday he questioned
the actions of the officer who firedwhen the man grabbed another officer's bean bag
shotgun. The chief says the officerwho fired will probably be identified in the
next few days. A business ownernear Skidrow had called police saying a man

(23:26):
was threatening his employees with a stickor pull. The man's family has hired
a lawyer. A ten point threemillion dollar grant from FEMA will help prevent
sewage from spewing out in southern OrangeCounty during natural disasters. This project will
allow us to relocate two miles ofsewer lines. Moulton Negel Water District CEO
June Kim Lopez says this will improvepipes that were installed in nineteen eighty so

(23:48):
that it could be more resilient inan earthquake, when a storm event,
or even in a wildfire. CongressmanMike Levin says six cities in South o
se depend on the molten Noguel WaterDistrict. He carries half of all of
the district wastewater from the collection systemto the local treatment plan. The project
uses a trenchilest tunnel technique to minimizeimpact to the natural environment in Laguna Hills.
Corbin Carson caf I News. Congressmandarryl Isa is visiting Hakumba today.

(24:15):
That's where the number of people crossingthe border into San Diego has gone way
up. Governor Abbott simply by makingit seem like they were not wanted in
Texas has caused a shift of peoplecoming to Arizona and California because they're welcome
here by their governors. Isis is. President Biden has the power to stop
much of the illegal immigration at theborder through emergency powers and asylum rules that

(24:38):
require people to stay in Mexico. He could do remain in Mexico as a
matter of fact, He could sayto Mexico I don't want to offend you,
but these people are already in yourcountry, and under asylum rules,
you get them first. We don'teven have to consider them at the border
isis as the majority of migrants arestill crossing the border illegally. When we
come back, Amy's on it.Yep, that's me. It's a documentary

(25:03):
that I watched a second time aftersomething that happened on the BAFTA Movie Awards.
Southland weather from KFI. Heavy rainat times with a chance of thunderstorms.
This morning should clear off this afternoon. High's in the mid sixties at
the beaches Metro La and in LandoSea. Upper fifties to mid sixties for
the valleys and Inland Empire. Fortiesand fifties in the High Desert. Partly
cloudy with highs in the sixties tomid seventies Tomorrow and Friday. The next

(25:26):
chance of rain rolls in Sunday nightand Monday. It's fifty six in Irvine,
fifty six in Huntington Beach. You'relistening to a wake up call on
demand from KFI AM six forty. It's five thirty five on your wake up
call. Good morning, Happy Wednesday. We can expect Bill handleby seeing homday
a lot in about a half anhour. I'm Amy King. Here's what

(25:48):
we're following in the KFI twenty fourhour newsroom. The storm moving through southern
California's dumped four inches of rain onLA in a day. That's the most
we've seen in a single day intwenty years. The heavy rain should taper
off to snows is still expected inthe mountains as the storm moves east.
Police in Kansas City of charge twopeople with murder in connection with the deadly
shooting at the Chief's Super Bowl paradeand rally. Police identified the person who

(26:11):
fired the shot that killed Lisa LopezGalvin, but both men are still facing
murder charges. Assembly Member Matt Haineyhas introduced a bill that would require landlords
to accept pets. It's the firstlegislation of its kind in the US and
is intended to keep owners from askingrenters about pets and from charging additional deposits

(26:32):
and monthly fees known as pet rent. At six oh five, it's Handle
on the news. A woman fromLA who's a dual Russian citizen has been
detained and charged with treason for allegedlydonating to and supporting Ukraine. At five
point fifty, we're going to tellyou about your chance to visit a ghostly
retreat that fans of the haunted Mansionat Disneyland are gonna die for. Damis

(26:59):
it on? It? What amI on? I'm on streaming shows.
There are documentaries, there are TVseries, there are movies. There's so
much content. How do you knowwhat you should watch? Ask a friend.
That's how I figure out what towatch. Usually get recommendations from my

(27:22):
friends and family members. And thisone I actually had watched before, but
I was reminded of it because Ididn't tell you guys about it yet.
I was reminded of it when theBAFTA Awards were handed out and those are
the UK's version of the Oscars, and they had Michael J. Fox announced

(27:45):
the winner of the Best Movie, and I thought, you know what,
Michael J. Fox. Wow,he was pretty. He's an impressive,
impressive person. And they brought himout. He was in a wheelchair,
He got up, walked to thepodium and as you know, he has
Parkins since disease, he's raised.I think they set a couple billion dollars
for Parkinson's research. I mean,he's really taken what he you know,

(28:07):
a nasty, nasty disease and madethe best of it and is an amazing,
amazing person for what he's done.So there is a documentary called Still.
It was released in May of twentytwenty three. It's on Apple TV,
so you can go stream it,and it's a story of not only

(28:30):
his life before, but his lifenow as he lives with Parkinson's. And
at the very beginning of the show, he's twenty nine years old. It's
in nineteen ninety and he wakes up. He's been out partying and he said,
that's the first time he remembers somethingbeing wrong. And he woke up
with a hangover and had like atwitch on his on his pinky finger.

(28:56):
It was moving and he couldn't He'slike, what is that that? I'm
not doing that? And that wasthe first inkling that something was wrong.
Maybe a signed from the future forhim for the start back to the future.
So and then they go and theytell the story of Michael J.
Fox growing up and how when hewas a little kid, and he was
a little kid, and he talksabout that, you know, because he's

(29:17):
not exactly he's not exactly tall, but he he could never be still.
He was always going, always going, always going, and he said he
was he was the kid who gotbullied because he was little, and he
was the one who got shoved inthe lockers. But he also knew that
he could run really fast, andso that's how he got away from things.
And and then he discovered when Ican't remember if it was in junior

(29:40):
high, but he discovered drama class. He said, that's where the girls
were, and that's how he firstgot interested in acting. And then it
talks about how he got to Hollywoodand how because he was a little bit
older, but he was very hewas short, I'm pretty small, he
would get cast in the the rolesplaying kids, but he was easier to

(30:02):
work with because he was older,so the casting directors liked him. The
show itself is really really interesting becauseit's got all this music from the period,
so it's definitely kind of a throwbackpiece, lots of flashbacks to his
early work, like before you knewwho Michael J. Fox was, so
that's kind of fun to see.And then of course it talks about back

(30:25):
to the Future and how he gotthat role and Also he details how he
was really the typical starving artist, like had no food, would eat jam
that he took from like the Dennisbecause he didn't have money. And then
he was twenty two years old whenfamily ties came along and that's when it
all kind of started coming together. And it's just really really well done and

(30:51):
super interesting and super cool to justsee his life and how he's dealing with
having Parkinson's and how his family isTracy Poll and his wife and his kids
and everything. It's called Still. It's on Apple TV, and I highly
highly recommend it. It's really inspirational, heartwarming, heartbreaking all at the same

(31:11):
time, and a really good watch. That's Amy's on it for this week.
Now, let's get back to someof the stories coming out of the
KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Therain is on its way out. The
National Weather Services showers should linger thismorning, but the storm is moving east.
Rainfall this morning is expected to bethe highest over La County. We
can attest to that. Half inchto one and a half inches is expected

(31:33):
for the coast and valleys, oneto two inches in the mountains. Two
men from Temechila, I've pleaded guiltyto filing thousands of bogus priority mail insurance
claims and added up to two pointthree million dollars. US Attorney spokesman Kiaran
McAvoy says Anwar and USAF se Alamused fake names and fifteen post office boxes.

(31:56):
One of the brothers wrapped empty packagesor packages containing little or no value,
and then sent them by a prioritymail to fake recipients at fictitious addresses.
McVoy says the brothers would buy onehundred dollars worth of insurance for priority
packages they then claimed were lost, damaged, or stolen. The alum brothers

(32:16):
pleaded guilty Friday and faced twenty yearsin prison when they're sentenced in November.
President Biden's in southern California for morecampaign fundraising. He's expected to speak in
Culver City today as he wraps upa two day visit. Biden spoke for
seventeen minutes last night at a fundraiserin Beverly Hills at the home of Israeli
American media mogul him Saban Hunter.Biden has asked a judge in California to

(32:40):
drop tax related charges against him.His lawyers filed emotion yesterday, arguing he's
been selectively targeted for prosecution. Theyalso claimed there were multiple charges for the
same tax year and that the statuteof limitations has expired. Biden pleaded not
guilty last month to the nine chargesagain him. The LA City Councils approved

(33:01):
millions of dollars for public toilets inHollywood. The multimillion dollar project also includes
a new visitors center at sixteen twentyseven Vine Council in Hugo Soda. Martinez
set amenities such as bathrooms could bettersupport tourism and development. The city has
about one hundred and eighty nine publictoilets, or about five toilets per one
hundred thousand people, and according tothe Public Toilet Index, YEP, it's

(33:22):
a thing. It's not enough toiletsfor a city that size. Now take
for instance, Madison, Wisconsin, which has thirty five toilets per one hundred
thousand people. Steve Gregory kf Iknows, and we're going to talk to
somebody who fans of the Haunted Mansionwill die for. That's coming up next.
You're listening to Wake Up Call onDemand from KFI AM six forty Flood

(33:45):
watches and warnings are up as awinter storm continues to dump rain on southern
California. The flood warnings are ineffect for LA and many of areas of
LA until nine this morning. Aman's been a rested for allegedly setting off
a small explosion at a shopping centerin Tustin. Authority say the man set

(34:06):
off a homemade mortar like firework infront of the village at Tustin Legacy shopping
Center yesterday afternoon. No one gothurt. A bomb squad checked everything out
to make sure it was safe.Beatlemania is set to hit theaters in a
big way. Sam Mendes will directfour movies, each one focusing on one
member of the Fab Four. Mendesays he's honored to be telling the story
of the greatest rock band of alltime, but you're going to have to

(34:27):
wait a while to see him.The films won't be in theaters until twenty
twenty seven. We're just minutes awayfrom handle. On the news this morning,
thirteen dogs have paid the ultimate pricefor mauling their owner to death in
Compton. Right now, let's saygood morning to the host of the podcast
Disney Coast to Coast and the manbehind a one night only show that Haunted
Mansion fans are gonna die for.Good morning, Jeff D. Paoli,

(34:52):
Good morning are you. I amfabulous, thanks for getting up early this
morning. Wanted to share this withpeople because I think it's just such a
a fun, fun, fun funof events. The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland
closed for refurbishment, but this weekend, fans of the mansion get a chance
to see what you're calling a ghostlyretreat inspired by the mansion and implemented by

(35:15):
some of the people who bring helpedto help to bring it to life.
So Jeff tell us all about it. Yeah, so the ghost of Retreat
is this really incredible airbnbing down inOrange count of California. That is I
mean, it was made by aman who professionally creates counted houses and does
scenic design and stuff like business professionand this place is just an incredible recreation

(35:39):
of the Haunted Mansions. And Idecided to put together a reunion and source
the folks who worked on the HauntedMansion and who work you know in a
top spring because this has done alot of Haunted Mansion projects, and gather
them all together for an afternoon fansof the mansion to come together meet these
talent. And I had an originalpiece of art created for this event by

(36:04):
a Disney illustrator. And they'll beable to meet these guests, get them
all autographed and hang out and goto the retreat, which typically you want
to do if you're booking, youknow, an expensive overnight day. So
so yeah, I'm happy to dothis. And it's all raising money to
Saint Dude Children's Research Hospital. Ilove it when wet and when we raise
money for Saint Jude's. So tellus about you said, you're you're bringing

(36:27):
together people who were inspirations of orpeople who made the mansion. What are
some of the contributions that they madeand who are they? Yeah, So
Bomber is a Disney legend. Heactually worked with Walt Disney. So Walt
Disney hired Bomber to design a lotof the vehicles that we know a Disney's,
like the monorail and the main streetvehicles and stuff like that, and

(36:52):
he created the famous doom Buggies thatwe all ride in. The Doom Buggies.
Nice. Yeah, So he'll bethere and then we have imagineer Ethan
Reid who's been He was at WaltDisn't Imagineering for over twenty years and he
worked on a trection called Mystic Mannerat Hong Kong disneland which they considered the
twenty first century Haunted Mansion. Andhe did a lot of character designs for

(37:15):
that and animated all of the animatronicfigures and was an art director, which
is incredible. It's a great attraction. And then with Gardner Holtz, who
is an animatronics master who does animatronicfigures for man He just co being parts
and then activities and he treated HanaMansion holidays if you're familiar with that.

(37:36):
He did those animatronic figures and theprops for when Jack Spellington takes over the
Haunted Mansion. And then Carolyn Gardner'scoming. She was a ghost writer.
She actually just retired from Disney andshe was sent for forty five years ghost
writing the Hanta mansioned Holiday and she'swritten Han Mention books and this Mansed Anniversary

(37:59):
of are written for the Haunt MentionAnniversary. So that's very cool. With
the director of mappet Counted Mansion runningat Kirk Thatcher, which is very exciting
and then Rick law who, asI mentioned as a Disney illustrator who created
an art piece for this event andused to design all this Disney VHS DVD
couverses that we all love them.Okay, So Jeff, why do people

(38:23):
love the Haunted Mansion so much? Why wouldn't you? My goodness, Ah,
it's a honestly, it's just likesuch a detailed attraction that like it
was the time well Disney imagineering thatwas counting out of practice, like parts
of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, things that are decades old and still I

(38:44):
would say for a lot of peopleat the top of their list when they
go to Disneyland that they it hasstood to test the time. I always
like a little bit of spooky inmy life, so you know how a
spooky has a discipline is a grandthing that doesn't beautiful job telling the story?
Yeah, And I think one ofthe other things that is so amazing

(39:05):
about the Haunted Mansion. And I'mguessing that if you go to this event,
you're gonna you're going to see andbe reminded of some of these things.
But every time you go through themansion, you discover something new because
there's so much to see, andI've seen some glimpses of what you've got
going on for your event, andI'm like, yeah, I would imagine
you wouldn't see everything just one timethrough, but with this you get to

(39:29):
kind of wander around for a coupleof hours and really really see everything.
Absolutely, I mean there's a tonof detail. I think those the retreats
hidden the keys and there. Ilove a good hidden mickey. Yeah.
Absolutely, and I mean folks whenthey step into the space, so really
be blown away. I've been acouple of times at this point and I'm

(39:51):
just always wowed by just being theattention to detailing there. It's incredible.
The bedrooms are being a different Imentioned characters who's just like Madam Madam Leonto's
bedroom bedroom, so different. Areaseven a quote unquote stretching room where our
special guests will be in. That'squite incredible. Okay, So if you

(40:14):
would like to attend this Ghostly Retreat, it's coming up quick. It's happening
this weekend. Tickets are available, and remember that all the proceeds from it
are The profits from it are goingto one of my favorite charities, the
Saint Jude Children Hospital and where canwe find out more information? Jeff,

(40:36):
sure, all of the info andat trainingurl dot com Flash Mansion Reunion tiny
url dot com slash Mansion Reunion andthe other cool takeaway. I love this
that along with getting to wander aroundand meet some of the people who are
so critical to creating the Haunted Mansion, you also get that takeaway piece of

(40:59):
art. So that's a very coolthing. Jeff Dopay only, the host
of the podcast Disney Coast to Coast. Okay, all right, perfect,
thank you so much for your timethis morning, and again if you want
to get tickets to this event,it's happening this Sunday afternoon. TinyURL dot

(41:22):
back to some of the stories comingout of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom.

(42:49):
