Laura interviews Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and producer Maggie Freleng. Maggie has spent her career focusing on wrongful convictions, the criminal legal system, and social issues. She is host and producer of “Wrongful Conviction with Maggie Freleng”, “Murder in Alliance”, and “Unjust and Unsolved” podcasts focusing on wrongful convictions and miscarriages of justice.
Laura and Maggie analyse the 21-page habeas petition submitted by Mark Geragos and Cliff Gardner who are the attorneys for Lyle and Erik Menendez. The petition cites two pieces of evidence which supports the brothers’ accounts that their father was sexually abusing them.
Laura and Maggie break down the new evidence. Is it enough to get the Menendez brothers another court hearing, a new trial or for the court to vacate their 1989 convictions as requested by the brothers? You’ll have to listen and find out what Laura and Maggie think.
