Den 4. juli, i 1825, reiste en båt med 52 passasjerer fra kaia i Stavanger. Tre måneder senere var de fremme i New York. Planen var at passasjerene om bord på «Restauration» skulle bosette seg i New York. Det ble starten på den store utvandringen til Amerika. Men hvor fikk de den ideen fra?
I denne episoden får vi et innblikk i hva som var årsaken til den norske utvandringen til USA starta for 200 år siden.
Nasjonalbibloteket har åpnet utstillingen «Rett vest. Drømmen om et bedre liv i Amerika», som gir en oversikt over norsk utvandring til USA fra 1825 til 1930, med fokus på drømmen om et bedre liv og de utfordringene og virkelighetene utvandrerne møtte. Ukens gjester er to av de som står bak utstillingen: Henrik Mathisen, fagansvarlig og Marte-Kine Sandengen ansvarlig for utstillingen.
