El Gobierno, con el aval de la Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC), ha propuesto prohibir que las comercializadoras eléctricas puedan llevar a cabo la contratación del suministro o publicidad por vía telefónica, salvo que se produzca una petición expresa por el consumidor, con el objetivo de blindar a los clientes de llamadas fraudulentas. Sin embargo, esos contactos fraudulentos aún tienen lugar. Se efectúan desde centros de llamadas en los que con frecuencia los presuntos estafadores incumplen las leyes de protección de datos y hasta suplantan a algunas empresas.
