La caída de la dictadura de Bashar el Asad ha permitido sacar a la luz la mayor base documental conocida sobre sus cárceles. El Damascus Dossier, con 64.000 archivos y 33.000 fotografías tomadas por la policía militar, muestra torturas sistemáticas, hambre extrema y ejecuciones.
Las imágenes, que retratan a más de 10.000 muertos bajo custodia, revelan cuerpos demacrados, numerados y trasladados a fosas comunes. El análisis de periodistas de 20 medios confirma signos de inanición y heridas graves en la mayoría de las víctimas. La filtración también apunta a la ONU, que durante una década contrató a una empresa de seguridad controlada por la inteligencia siria.
