Speaker 1 (00:14):
November November, it already feels like it's been a long time,
longest month of the college football year. It's just the
longest month of the year period. If you don't believe me,
ask some of these teams that started to breathe that
area yesterday. Do you notice in the acc how it
all of a sudden got a lot more difficult. Do
you notice Oregon? Do you notice Indiana having to go
down to the wire. It's a beautiful, beautiful time of
(00:36):
the year. Actually, it sucks outside right now. It feels
terrible in Nashville. We're jam packed high top of cold, windy, frigid,
gray downtown Nashville, Tennessee, on the Sunday night, November ninth,
the year of Our Lord, twenty twenty five. But that's okay,
that's okay. Number one, because we're blessed enough to have
a roof over our studio. And number two, we've got
full week eleven reaction. We could be here five hours tonight.
(01:00):
We probably won't be, but we could be. Mike Norvel
as of this moment, check my phone still the head
coach at Florida State. Somewhat surprising to me relative to
the text, I was getting when I woke up this morning.
I'll talk about that a little bit later. We got
all these games to react to. I would say the
moment of the year so far happened in Indiana Penn
(01:21):
State yesterday. Unbelievable. We were in Lubbock yesterday. Some are
saying in the Pate State Contingent that it was our
best trip of the season. Lofty, because we've been at
the biggest games all year. We got an ap pole out.
We're going to react to that. I've got a slight
tweak that I need to make to my playoff predictions.
(01:41):
It's seeding, it's matchups. It's perhaps a new national championship matchup.
Sound like more than tweaks, Jesse. I don't know. We're
going to do it tonight. And if you're the kind
of person who likes to get stuff, we're giving people
here at Pate State. But if you like getting stuff
every now and then, this is the show for you.
(02:04):
This specific tonight's show is the show for you. They're
watching us in Brunswick, Georgia, Cyprus, Texas, Chicago, Illinois, Knoxville, Tennessee.
I stated a statistic on the show the other day,
and I was right about it. I double checked I
was right about it. Fifty one percent of our viewers
are unsubscribed. I'm not gonna beg maybe just a little
bit check and see if you're subscribed. If you're not
(02:26):
subscribed to the channel, why, Josh, it doesn't change anything
for me. I know that it changes things for us,
and the show is flying right now, so we're in
no danger here. We just want to get to five
hundred subs by the time December rolls around, preferably before Thanksgiving,
so we can eat in peace. And you can't really
eat in peace if you don't have five hundred thousand
(02:47):
subs on your YouTube channel. So please, please, If don't
do it for me, do it for Bradley and Jesse
and pres and Mitchell out there. They're freezing in the truck.
It's like forty degrees in the truck out there, and
couldn't be me, guys. Feels great in here, but yeah,
like I want to get those guys a space heater.
How am I supposed to do that on a shoe
string budget, which would change if we had five hundred
thousand sobs. So look, keep them warm, take the mittens
(03:11):
off Bradley's fingers. He can barely press the buttons right now.
In all series, please subscribe to the channel. Okay, let's
dive into the show tonight. It is my duty to
inform you Big twelve Paate is back, fueled by quick trip.
We went to Lubbock yesterday. We were there, we were
on hand, and it wasn't really much of a game.
(03:32):
So we have to begin with the bad news. Is
this bad news? Joey MacGuire says, it's not one point
five Chali on Texas Tech over BYU twenty nine to seven.
I go to a game every week. We roll to
a game every week. The Fault Live Tour has been
all over the country. This week we will be somewhere
(03:52):
this week. This was an unbelievable trip. Savannah State there
pictured to my left. We're walking on the field. She's
with me for a lot of these games. Friend of
the program, Rhys Davis there to Columbus Georgia Natives. Might
I add anyway I can confirm to you tonight. Savannah
State has placed this number one on her power ratings,
(04:16):
not rankings, power ratings for trips that we've been on.
And she's been by my side for a lot of these.
Now you may be thinking to yourself, that sounds like that,
sounds like a real bait and switchway of getting around
how you thought about it. It's way up there for
me too. Now. A lot of people hate on West Texas.
Some of you have never been there, and to that,
(04:37):
I say, I get it. I grew up in rural Georgia,
so Lubbock might as well be on the moon to me.
I took one youth mission trip there only time I've
ever been on a Greyhound bus, and we drove from Columbus,
Georgia to Lubbock and back. But I hadn't been out
there since like the early two thousands, and many of
the national media types had neither, apparently because everyone's eyes
(04:57):
were wide now. We were there in the spring. I
went out there in the sp and hung out for
a couple of days, so I know how those facilities look.
But I was listening to a lot of the national
media guys who were in town, like Nick Saban, he
hadn't been to Lubbock. A lot of the ESPN guys,
they're there for the first time in a couple of decades.
So I said some stuff in the spring, and people
didn't believe me, And now I'm hearing a lot of
(05:17):
them echo the same sentiment. And here's the sentiment. Texas
Tech has the best facilities in the country, but no
one believes it because no one can picture in their
mind that there's something about college football in Lubbock, Texas
that trump's anything that could exist in Athens, Georgia, or Austin, Texas,
or Columbus, Ohio, or Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It's fine if you
think that, I'm just telling you you're kind of wrong
(05:40):
because they've invested, or have they invested, And people say
that pejoratively, like, oh, Texas Tech only has what they
have because they spend a lot of money as opposed
to how they do it where else. So, yeah, they've invested.
I said in spring, and I'm gonna say again, it's
like being in a great, big high school football town.
(06:00):
Texas is long been known for high school football. There
are some towns in South Georgia Lowndes County, for example,
Thomas County Central, the place is down in South Georgia
where I'm from, that are known for high school football.
Well in Texas is like that. Lubbock is kind of
like that except on steroids. So take what it's like.
The community, like, the communal feel, the all in nature
(06:24):
that everyone pitching in, all the gas stations closed down
in the town on Friday night. When you're playing a
high school football game, it's like that, but so much
bigger in scale because it's college football and there are
billionaires involved and the play seats like sixty thousand people,
So it's different in that sense, and it's been broadcast
on national TV. I don't know how to wantch to
(06:45):
explain it, but the vibe around Texas Tech football is
like if you took all the best aspects of big
time high school football and then turn the volume up
to one hundred. That's how Texas Tech feels. It feels
different than any other place in college football. I think
you would have to go there to know what I
mean by that. So that was one thing. The other
thing is everyone was there, My homes was back. You
(07:07):
had all the big names associated with Texas Tech. You
had all the big names associated with just like college football.
You had game day there, Faull, Don't Lie Tour there,
Tomato Tomato, you know, and then they put on a
show on the field, which is the only thing I
was kind of worried about going into it was sometimes
you get all this noise around a program, and if
(07:28):
it's if it's Ohio State, they're used to it. So
they just perform, you know, and the game plays out
the way the game would play out, no matter if
you were or weren't in town. But this is abnormal
for Texas Tech. Now they've been building towards it. They've
been very intentional about it. They had this on their radar,
but it was new, like a lot of those people
were in the spotlight, the programs in the spotlight nationally
(07:50):
for the first time in a long time. And here's
what I can say. They dominated the game and left
so much on the field. Which was my biggest takeaway
standing on the field watching the game, was you know,
it's the most academic game that I think we saw yesterday.
It was the most academic game breakdown we did all
of last week. Remember this, Jesse. We sometimes sit around
(08:12):
on Tuesdays, We'll sit in our production room and we'll
toss some ideas back and forth, like what do we
think this game is going to hinge on? And sometimes
you can go back and forth for two hours on
a game. This one took like ten minutes and I
still have the points written down. We basically said, Brigham
Young has a couple of non negotiables in this game.
They need to win the turnover battle like they did
(08:34):
against Diowa State, like they did against Utah. They finished
minus three yesterday, So there's paper popper number one and
number two. They needed to be able to scale their
rushing offense because they had been good, They've been number
fifteen in the country all year, but they were facing
something the likes of which they had never seen before.
They were facing the number one run defense in the
country and two point five yards per carry. Yesterday they
(08:55):
trailed the entire game. So a lot of people like
to poke my argument a part last week because I
said a couple of times, and I stood by everything
I said. I said, Brigham Young has not had to
be put in a position where they have to throw
the ball to come from behind and win a game.
The way I kind of said it made it sound
like I was saying they haven't trailed in a game
all year. Well, they're trailed in games, So I kind
(09:16):
of misspoke. So on that part, I take it back,
But the sentiment like regardless of the semantics, the sentiment was,
I highly doubt that this Brigham Young team can get
behind in a position where they have to throw the
ball to get back in the game and be successful
at it. They got put in that position yesterday and
they were unsuccessful at it. So yet, semantics notwithstanding, that,
(09:41):
wasn't that difficult to see coming? How hard was this
game tilted? Though? Like I'm talking about this game being dominated, well,
how thoroughly was it dominated? Listen to this Texas Tech
ran forty three plays in Brigham Young territory BYU ran
nine plays in Texas Tech tear starting field position on
(10:02):
average double a lot of paper pops in this game.
Starting field position. Texas Tech their own forty two, Brigham
Young their own twenty three. So yeah, the table was
tilted all day. Now. I did listen afterwards. We were
headed to the airport and we were headed home, and
I always like to listen to a lot of the
postgame press and media conferences and stuff like that from
(10:24):
the games that we've been at. And I was listening
to Kaline Seitakia, I was listening to some of the
Brigham Young players. They were saying the same kind of
thing I would probably say if I were in the game.
So I'm not criticizing these guys at all. But I
heard one of the Brigham Young players say something along
the lines of, it was a hard fought game. We
missed a lot of opportunities. We hope to get another
(10:44):
crack at those guys. You know, the basically the idea was,
we did some things wrong today. If we clean that up,
if we get another shot at and we'll do those
things right. So just to missed opportunities, and we could
have been in this game, which is how a competitor thinks.
So I don't blame them, but let's talk about missed opportunities,
because missed opportunities are actually what kept this from being
(11:05):
forty five to seven instead of twenty nine to seven.
Brigham Young, I mean, they're sitting there down multiple possessions
and kind of lucky for the game to be this
close Texas Tech is. I mean, they they had so
many opportunities inside Brigham Young territory. They settled for field
(11:26):
goals so many times, and it's great because that's how
football works. And so we can't change the result yesterday.
But if we're looking ahead, if we think these teams
are gonna play again, and it's not a foregone conclusion.
But Brigham Young does control their own destiny. You see
their schedule here. They got TCU, then they got at Cincinnati.
It's gonna be a tough game. And if they lose
that when we're probably looking at Cincinnati in the Big
(11:48):
Twelve title game. And then they got UCF. But even
if they do get back, like, nothing's changing about stylistically
how much this matchup disadvantages you. But in terms of
miss opportunities, buddy, there were a whole lot more missed
opportunities and points left on the field by the home
team yesterday and than the road team. So they got
something really really special brewing there. It's kind of been
(12:12):
that way all year. I feel like yesterday, for the
first time, maybe people made it a point to view
a Texas Tech football game, and you know, it wasn't
like a fireworks show. Actually it was in real life,
but in terms of figurative language, it wasn't a fireworks show.
But it was just an awesome trip. I don't know
(12:33):
what it is. There are a couple of places that
I've been where I have this irrational attachment to the
people and the place. Now, some places we go all
the time, Like we're around the SEC a lot. We're
around Ohio State and Penn State, and Michigan a lot.
We're around Oregon a fair amount. So those places I
have familiarity with because they're like my neighbors. I just
(12:55):
go see them all the time. But then there are
other places where you don't get there all the time,
and it just they hit you different. They strike you
a little bit different, And all I can tell you
is out of that second category, Texas Tech is our
favorite trip that we've made going to that place. Those people,
Matt Dowdy and the SID crew, Joey Maguire, their open
(13:16):
door policy, equipment staff, strength, the conditioning staff. They're so
great to us. The people are so great. Big shout
out to the Texas Tech student section, by the way,
because I promised them a shout out. And if you
looked at that video that I put on Twitter yesterday,
I don't really know how else to describe it. If
(13:38):
I were to take a perfect scene that describes the
entire setting at Texas Tech yesterday, it was that video.
There's a kid on the front row with a poster
that says I love oil money, Drill, baby drill. That's
West Texas. It's unbelievable experience. So I encourage all of
you before you knock it, make sure you experience it.
(14:00):
Quick trip fueled us all the way out there. Speaking
of oil, they fueled us all the way out there.
They fueled us all the way back last night, and
we appreciate it. Man. Like I said, memorable trip. We
will not forget that one for a long while. But
where will we go next? I have it on good
authority because they've announced it publicly that game day is
going to Notre Dame Pittsburgh, right, Jesse. Yeah, so they're
(14:21):
going up to Pittsburgh. Was there were rumors that they
were going to be in Arkansas and that did not
come to fruition, which has to be a little bit
of a bummer for the folks there. We will not
be in Arkansas either, but I never teased that we
would be there. But we're also not going to be
in Pittsburgh. We are going to be at Texas Georgia
(14:46):
this Saturday. Because this is a massive, massive game. It's
been a wonderful year to be a Georgia season ticket holder.
I was simply waiting on Georgia yesterday to take care
of business, and take care of business they did, and
we'll talk about that later. And if they had taken
care of business yesterday, which they did, I knew we
were going to this game. So this is another opportunity
(15:09):
now for this group of teams in the SEC. We
got a bunch of one and two lost teams. This
is another opportunity for someone to make a statement. I
think it is a massive opportunity for Texas. If Texas
were to go in there and they're about a six
and a half point dog. By the way, I need
to tweet this out. Hold on just a second. I
know Sark and Kirby're waiting on this. Okay, there you go, guys.
(15:30):
You can finish your dinner now. If they go in
there and beat Georgia, everything's still in play for Georgia,
but all of a sudden Texas. Texas is not in
the driver's seat for a playoff spot, but they would
completely control their destiny as they do now. This would
be one of the big hurdles. Like everybody when they
map out Texas's season, they're kind of saying, well, they're
going to drop at least one of the Georgia or
(15:51):
Texas A and M games fair but if they win
this one, that other games at home they get A
and M at home. I think that's a Friday, by
the way, I think it's on Black Friday. They have
to Thanksgiving, so quick trip will fuel us down there.
They're like twenty quick trips within a stone's throw of
Sandford Stadium, so we're in very familiar territory. We're looking
(16:12):
forward to it. They take care of us at Georgia.
We love our folks at Georgia, so we're looking forward
to getting down there. Until then, let's continue talking about
Week eleven, shall we. What'd you think about this Alabama
LSU game last night? The finals twenty to nine. Now
Bama covered. It was our best bet of the week.
(16:33):
Bama somehow covers and hangs twenty. We'll take it however
we can get it. We're hanging two chali on this game.
It was a one possession game late in the second half,
and yet it never felt like it was in doubt,
or maybe if you're a Bama fan, it did feel
like it was in doubt a little bit. Me Mal
would call this one of those classic grumble games. A
(16:54):
grumble win, if you will. Bama got so spoiled for
a long time, undersaved, and they'd win by like thirty
and still have complaint. Okay, well that's backed off just
a little bit. Because you play a lot of one
possession type games under Deboor. This one was a two
possession game. But still you win the game. We can
confirm that you can't run the ball yet and probably
can't at all this season. We can confirm that, and
(17:16):
yet you win the game. But it has a weird
vibe to it. There's this little grumble win nature about it.
We won, but I guarantee you a bunch of Bama
fans have said that at church this morning, at lunch,
at work tomorrow. We won. But and then something about
the run game, something about Ryan Grubbs play calling on
(17:38):
first down is going to follow the butt. It's a
privileged position to be in in life. You know how
much that'll love to be in that position in Tallahassee, Florida,
or Clemson, South Carolina for that matter, or Auburn Alabama.
That love it. Bama folks don't care. The margin felt
bigger than it was all night. We got home in
time to watch this entire game, and so I was
(18:00):
watching it and there are these They are these deep
balls that Ty Simpson keeps missing, not by multiple stride links,
but by you know, the length of a finger every
now and then, and you're like, oh, he'll hit the
next one, and then he doesn't hit the next one.
Now he'll hit the next one. He doesn't hit the
next one, and you're sitting there thinking to yourself, it's
twenty to nine. If they hit any combination of these balls,
(18:21):
it feels like it's thirty five to nine. But they didn't,
so you've got missed explosive pass plays. And yet still
Bama had half a dozen explosive passes in the game.
LSU had one. So you feel like they are all
these missed opportunities because there were, but they still had
six of them. And it's crazy because you look at
other teams in the country. LSU's a perfect example of one. Actually,
(18:44):
there are these other teams in the country who can't
really run the ball worth anything like Bama, and because
of that, it greatly shaves off their pass game production.
You watch Alabama and the only thing that's shaving off
their pass game production, I'm not gonna call it so
off inflicted because up pressure on the quarterback can hurry
up a throw. Tight coverage can lead to an incomplete pass.
(19:06):
But there are a lot of balls that just frankly
have to be completed down the field. Well, they don't
have to be. They need to be in order for
their offensive profile to be what it can be, for
their national title hopes to be what they can be,
that just aren't being completed. So I don't know, does
that clean? Does that clean itself up? One of my
least liked phrases in football. We're gonna clean that up.
(19:29):
You like it's a grimy window. It's November, but we're
gonna clean things up. Teams do improve in November. I've
just never understood how you clean it up and improve it.
Twenty to nine game could have just as easily been
like thirty eight to nine if they hit some explosive
pass plays. But the run game kind of is what
it is. I mean, I don't know how many times
I looked around today. I looked at my inbox. A
(19:53):
bunch of fans will always DM you after a win
and say, hey, how are we gonna get this cleaned up?
There it is again? How we're gonna get this figured out.
You're not. You get the highest You got one of
the best offensive staffs in the country. There. Those guys
are paid a lot of money. You've got your players
unless you're an Oregon Duck theoretically as healthy as they
could be coming out of the bye week. It is
(20:14):
what it is. It was one of their worst rushing
performances of the year last night. Now, look, Blake Baker's
an American hero. That LSU defense played their tails off.
Even then, you gotta be able to do better than
that or else. It just is what it is. So
it is what it is with Alabama. It's a flawed
contending team. Fortunate news for them. Everyone has flaws. Contrary
(20:39):
to popular belief, there's probably somewhere somehow. Ohio State even
has a flaw or two. I'm not supposed to say that,
cause those flaws aren't very big, but they may be
there somewhere. This is just where Bama's inefficient. The defense
keeps showing up though three more sacks. The pass rush
was one of two things that I said I was
looking for in this game. Rush continuing to come along
(21:01):
run game improvement. Well, we didn't get the second one,
but we did get the first one. They held LSU
to five or fourteen on third downs. They had seven
tackles for loss LSU, four red zone trips, zero touchdowns.
They consistently right now are making you know, twenty four
to twenty seven points good enough to win, And specifically
(21:24):
their red zone defense has been the most underreported important
facet of this team this year. They yell constantly, like
if you're around them, if you stand on a Bama sideline,
you go watch them in practice. One of the things
they just yell constantly is make them snap it again,
make them snap it again, make them snap it again.
(21:44):
And what that means is and this is not rocket
science here by any stretch, but there's a huge difference
in someone breaking a long run or a long pass
on you and them scoring versus them getting pushed out
of bounds at the seven. Is it first and goal,
Yeah it is. But every additional time you make the
opponent snap the ball, no matter how close to the
(22:04):
goal line it is, it gives them one more shot
to screw it up, to fumble it, for you to
tackle them for a loss, for them to false start.
And Bama's just disproportionately better at doing that than a
lot of teams are. So it's not bend but don't break,
because that implies you can't get any pressure on the QB,
and that implies you don't have any high level skill
(22:26):
in your dB room. They've got those things, they're linebacker
rooms coming along right now. They'll probably get Kway Rusau
back at some point before the year's over. I'm not
trying to say it's this old school Big twelve style
of playing defense, but red zones really where they've won
games and they're very efficient down there, and those guys
that defensive staff deserves a lot of credit for that.
(22:48):
LSU does not just a mess offensively. Garrett Nussmayer got benched.
I mean within about a thirty minute to a one
hour span last night, we had Nussmyer benched for LSU,
DJ Lagway benched for Florida. I mean, look, everyone made
fun of my preseason SEC quarterback rankings, but who's ranking
(23:09):
didn't at least have Garrett Nussmeyer up in the top
five and DJ Lagway somewhere around there. So it's just
been a crazy year at the quarterback position in the SEC.
It's November again, so we got to call it like
it is. I thought Austin Thomas in that personnel department
did as good a job as they could try to
do at turning this roster into a contender, because remember
(23:32):
what we talked about in the spring and summer, this
was going to be a team with glaring deficiencies. And
they got their act together in il wise, and I
thought their front office deserved a lot of credit for that,
still do, and they put as many pieces on the
roster as they could. It never fully became the team
that it could have become. There are big differences between
(23:53):
individual pieces and a team, and they got enough of
the first. I thought they don't have enough of the second.
And it's going to go downhill from here. So your
conversation around LSU just pretty exclusively shifts to coaching search.
And you've got Arkansas, Western, Kentucky, and at Oklahoma left.
I don't two in one, one and two. I don't
(24:15):
know what they're going to be there, but Alabama's must
have because this is a national championship contender, this is
an SEC championship contender. But I'm telling you Alabama does
not get there unless they have elite red zone defense
or continue to have it. They have to have their
explosive pass game improved. They have to have that. And
(24:35):
the third thing is that pass rush that's emerging. It
has to continue to emerge. Okay, they do that and
they win the criticals. They're a really good middle eight
team as well. If they continue to do those things,
they can win a national championship. But there's going to
come a time, and it may be before the regular
It may be Saturday against Oklahoma, it could be randomly
on the road at Auburn in the Iron Bowl. It
(24:56):
could be against Texas A and M. They're going to
have to win three, maybe four games in the playoff
to win it all. They're gonna be multiple teams capable
of taking things away from you, capable of scoring on you.
You know, they themselves are really efficient offensively in the
red zone. So eventually you're gonna have trade points and
eventually you're gonna have score in the second half. So
they gotta find that stuff. I said coming out of
(25:19):
the bye week, I don't think they've squeezed all the
juice out of the Orange yet. I still don't think it.
And my evidence is not the run game, the run
game is what it is. But I still think in
terms of explosive passes, these are not balls. Like watching
Nico Iamaliava at Tennessee last year where he's missing guys
by like multiple stridelings. It's just inches here and there. Immunity.
(25:42):
It's just inches. You gotta find the inches immunity again.
Let's move on. I have a post it in my hand.
I'm not gonna make a big deal of this. Only
those of you watching or listening to the whole show
are going to hear the two words that are written
on this post it. I don't believe Eve in huge
promotional teases. When we have announcements, we make the announcements.
(26:05):
But you've asked us for a live show for a
long time. I think within the next month. I think
within the next week, we're gonna have a big announcement
about a live show. I think the show will happen
within the next month personally, But that's just me. What
do I know. So stay tuned, stay tuned to the
(26:26):
next week's shows big announcement. I'm told I'm hearing things
about a big announcement. Jesse, you were so close Indiana
twenty seven Penn State twenty four four and a half
Childli game yesterday. There was strong debate internally about making
this a five Chilai game. I had this is very unorthodoxed.
(26:50):
I had coaches text me and say, that's got to
be a five Chalai game, right. And I came into
the office today and I said, what do we think
is that a five chilai game? And Jesse's like, I
don't see it. I don't see it. Shocker, But he
did put forth a good enough argument about the first
half being kind of sleepy that it did drag the
game rating down to a four and a half. But
(27:11):
if we were rating halves, the second half could have
been six chialai. First ever six Chali game. Omar Cooper,
what a day. He could live one hundred and fifty
years and yesterday's still be the most memorable day of
his life. He goes on to have kids, a successful career, whatever. Yesterday,
it's going to be up there no matter what he
does the rest of his life. We were at the
(27:32):
airport watching the ending of the game. We had left
the stadium. We're at the airport in Lubbock waiting to
get out of there, and everyone just glued to it.
And remember I told you last year or was it
two years ago? I was up in Ann Arbor. Yeah,
it was like two years ago. It was whenever Bama
had like that fourth and thirty one touchdown in the
Iron Bowl to beat Auburn. So I guess that was
(27:53):
two years ago. I rarely see big moments at airports.
If you've ever seen a big sporting moment happened at
an airport, it's really surreal because like if you're in
an airport, if you're at a restaurant or a bar
or whatever, everyone's just watching TVs. And if there's a
big sporting event on all the TVs or on the
sporting event, well, normally on Saturdays, I'm at the big game.
(28:17):
So I had been at Ohio State Michigan that day.
That's a noon kickoff, and I get to Detroit Airport
and that Iron Bowl game's going on, and they hit
fourth and thirty one and you could just hear noise
echo all throughout the big long corridors in the Detroit Airport.
So that's a memorable airport college football moment for me.
And then yesterday we were in Lubbock and it happened again,
(28:38):
everyone's glued to Indiana Penn State, and everyone's thinking to themselves,
it is Penn State about to pull this off? First off,
how is Penn State doing this? More on that in
a second. And secondly, are they really about to pull
this off? Yes? No, no, they're not about to pull
this off. I was in disbelief. I was of the
(28:59):
opinion that they had to prove it to me. But
they sucked me in. They got me. Penn State got me,
especially when they sack Mendoza on first and ten on
that last drive, and it's like second in a mile.
They got him. First down, another first down, another first down,
another first down. Crazy. So let's just walk through this
for a second. You know where your mind was at.
(29:20):
I got to tell you where my mind was at.
I view these games a little bit different. I don't
really care about your record once the game kicks off.
I don't care about your ranking once the game kicks off.
Now everyone says that, but I don't think everyone believes that.
And I'll tell you why. I don't think everyone believes
that because people say things like, oh, Indiana, they're getting
(29:40):
pushed against the team that's sub five hundred. No, they're
not No. One is sub five hundred. Penn State's not
three and five on that day. They're just a team
on the field that zero and zero on that day.
Indiana's not the number two team in the country. They're
just a team on the field for that day. Now,
there's a lot to say when you do what A
(30:02):
and M did yesterday and you just go on the
road and you take care of business, and it's never
in doubt. Indiana's done that. I'm glad they had to
experience this yesterday. Personally, if I'm an Indiana fan, oh man,
it's like torture when you're watching it. But afterwards, you
don't talk about thirty eight to thirteen games. Ten years
from now, you'll talk about this one. I just always
(30:23):
go back to the same thing. And I don't think
there's proper appreciation for this. Your record doesn't mean anything
on Saturday. Your ranking does not mean anything on Saturday.
It's just two teams playing. And Indiana's in this situation
where they are favored by double digits over teams with
better roster talent than they have because they're a better
(30:43):
team than those teams are. They've been better to date,
but it doesn't change that any given Saturday, they could
push you. It could happen. This kind of game hasn't
happened in the Big ten a lot. It happens all
the time in the SEC. I had a guy yesterday.
They texted me sarcastically after Indiana won this game, and
(31:04):
he told me, Indiana gets a lot of credit for
this game, right, You guys always give teams credit in
the SCC when they beat teams below five hundred. And
I said, yeah, they sure do. Indiana gets a ton
of credit for it. What point are you trying to make.
I think he thought it was a gotcha moment. It's
not a gotcha moment at all. Understand what Indiana dealt
with yesterday because it's the same thing Georgia dealt with,
(31:26):
and it's Florida. Last week, Georgia goes on the road. Well,
it's Jacksonville, so it's a neutral site. But they go
and they face a team that has a bad record.
But Florida's got NFL guys everywhere, So on any given Saturday,
if they hit the on switch, they could be a
nightmare to deal with. They just haven't hit the on
switch enough during the season to have a ranking next
(31:49):
to their name or to be favored in the game.
But that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if they got
blown out early in the year, if against you, they
come to play. So yesterday Indiana goes in there face
by fourteen and a half. They got a big fat
ranking next to the name Penn State dutt and they've
already fired their coach. But it didn't matter because Penn
State came to play. They hit the on switch yesterday.
(32:10):
Nick Singleton, he's still alive. I didn't know that, and
he called a nicky when told to throw the ball,
can call functional pass plays. I didn't know that. So
none of it mattered. Here's the difference in the Big Ten.
Normally you have not had to deal with the superior
talent rosters having inferior records in the SEC. It happens
(32:32):
all the time, like you'll have random teams down in
the SECA like South Carolina. South Carolina's got Lenora Sellers,
they got Dylan Stewart on that team, they got Nick
Harbor and their record sucks, but it doesn't change the
fact they have multiple freak athletes on the team. In
the Big Ten, Penn State's got a ton of future
NFL talent most of the time ninety nine times out
(32:54):
of one hundred, and the Big Ten lately, you haven't
had but more than two or three rosters like that
loaded up with NFL talent, and they've all had the
good records. Very rarely have you had teams going on
the road to face one of the high level talent rosters.
I think Penn State's probably like third best talent roster
in the Big Ten, but they're having a subpar season,
which sets a classic trap. Those games haven't happened a
(33:16):
lot in the Big Ten. It happened yesterday, so it
was kind of like an SEC game, So you better
believe I'm giving Indiana a ton of credit for it.
That's a game that probably eight times out of ten
you end up losing, and yet they didn't because as
great as the fourth quarter was, as great as the
Omar Cooper catch was, and i'd call it the play
(33:37):
of the year, to this point, i'd call it the
play of the year. I mean, my jaw was on
the ground just like the rest of you. That's not
what won them the game. What won them the game
was the middle eight, final four minutes, first half, first
four minutes, second half. That part of the game is
where they ended up kind of sneakily taking the thing
by the throat. Now, they lost the lead and ended
(33:58):
up having to regain it at the very but think
about this. There was a penalty on an Indiana drive
late late first half that extended the drive, and that
drive ends in a field goal. Then Penn State goes
ultra conservative, which they did a couple of times yesterday
at the end of each half, which I thought was inexplicable,
(34:18):
and then they fumbled the ball and Indiana gets touchdown.
So that's ten unanswered going into the half. Penn State
gets the ball coming out of the locker room and
Indiana ends up getting it off an interception. They kick
a field goal thirteen oh run. I thought that was
the difference in the game, even though Penn State ended
up taking the lead and Penn State lost the middle eight,
(34:39):
despite the fact that they got the ball out of
the locker room, So that was what lost the game. Now, situationally,
Penn State was a mess. That's just what happens when
you have interim head coach. That bit lsu Yat yesterday.
That bit Penn State yesterday. But that's to be expected.
Consider Penn State's reality, though not just yesterday. Consider go
(35:01):
back to halftime of the semi final last year and
just press play and think about what these poor people
have been through. I work with one. Think about what
these poor people have been through. You had the interception
to end the Notre Dame game. Season's over. Just suddenly
season's over. That's okay, because everyone's coming back, and we
(35:22):
got our most talented team and we're going to gear
up for a national championship run. And then you lead
Oregon in overtime, but then they push the dagger into
your ribs and you lose that one, and then you
can't get a defensive stop against UCLA and you lose
that one. And ditto against Northwestern and you lose that one,
(35:43):
and then it's a one point loss against Iowa. Ohio
State handled you pretty thoroughly. But the Indiana game yesterday,
same thing. They're like half a dozen plays since that
moment that could have at least sent you to play
for a national title and could have you eight and
one right now. I could change half a dozen plays
(36:03):
and change the entire outlook on Penn State football. But
that's not how it works. I could not believe they
didn't go for the throat with the ball late. I
couldn't believe that they played the game honestly. Penn State
played the game like they were undefeated versus an undefeated
team where they had wiggle room. Where you play at
(36:24):
ultra tight, you play at conservative, you play field position.
I don't even think anyone was aware. You're three and five,
your season is already a rap. Anyway, this is your
national title game. I know it's not fun to say that,
but for Penn State this year, this is your national
title game. And you play ball control, ball control. At
the one time you do throw it, you throw it
(36:44):
in the flat well short of the sticks, and you
give the ball to them, and they do what championship
caliber teams do. They drive down the field and you're
watching Fernando Mendoza, I told Joel cladd after the game,
because they called the game. I mean, Gus Johnson still
has not peeled himself up off the ground of the
broadcast booth. But I told Klatt, Fernando Mendoza could play
(37:07):
another fifteen years. He could go on and have a
great NFL career. He will probably never be as zoned
in again. In his life as he was that final drive,
Like guys could play great NFL careers and not have
a chain of events like he had in Indiana had
on that game winning drive. And I know, like you know,
(37:29):
Gus Johnson said stuff about the Heisman and just getting
caught up in the moment, and then you know, Julian
Sayan backers and Ohio State fans, they got a big
problem with it because, like their attitude is, so we're
gonna credit that guy who didn't play all that well
up until that moment and put himself in a position
to where he needs a game winning drive, whereas our
(37:49):
guy is just carved up everybody, and so he's gonna
get punished for that, which is a valid point. I
don't really care about that because I don't get that
locked up on the Heisman. I'm just saying every championship team,
it seems to me, has needed a moment like that.
Like I don't know what's gonna happen to Indiana. I
just know since they won the game knowing, you know,
(38:12):
armed with the knowledge they won the game, I like
their prospects a whole lot moving forward, Like I like
their odds to win a title more after yesterday than
I would have if they just won the game like
thirty one to thirteen, which sounds calendar intuitive unless you
understand college football. But you know, there was a lot
of people afterwards saying, hey, man, I know they won,
but this makes them vulnerable. But they were already vulnerable.
(38:34):
Everybody is. It is weird that Indiana seemingly has not
had to climb the ladder like normally, your progression, your
ascension as a program is you go from being bad
to not as bad, to okay to pretty good but
can't win the big games, to finally you win a
big game, to then you become one of the top fives,
to then you become elite. Indiana just went from terrible
(38:56):
to elite, and it really doesn't feel like there's been
much in between. So all of a sudden, you're looking
at them now and you're just trying to search with
a magnifying glass for any weaknesses. Well you'll find them.
They've got them. I mean, Mendoza against Oregon was not
that great against Iowa, struggled against Penn State struggle. They
can be beaten. Of course, they're going to face a
(39:19):
team that's probably better than them. In Indianapolis in a
few weeks. But here's the thing that only matters if
you can show me a flawless team out there. That's
why Ohio State kind of holds all the cards here
because everybody else you look at the odds to win
the college football playoff there, everybody else has shown some
form of weakness. Some have multiple weaknesses, but everyone's shown
(39:41):
at least one weakness. Ohio State, out of all those teams,
has shown the least amount of weakness. So if Ohio
State really is this wrecking ball, they really are just
this death machine, then nothing else matters. They'll just win
the whole thing. But if Ohio State is not quite that,
if Ohio State is just very good but not a eat,
then it's game on and they're like eight teams that
(40:03):
can win the whole thing. Probably not that many, but
to make my point, I'm gonna go with eight. But
congratulations to Indiana. That's not one that I thought they
were gonna win. Late in the game. Then they won it,
all right, I mentioned earlier. Well, first off, I would
like to welcome all of you who are watching live.
If you're watching live, like I know, maybe some Indiana
fans don't watch the channel usually, thank you for watching.
(40:25):
It's just college football all year. It's all we do,
no apologies for it. If you want to check out
the Phoenix Suns you can. If you want to know
how the Dodgers are doing in the hot stove conversations,
that's okay. This is just not the channel. It's just
college football here. Please subscribe to the channel. That's all
we ask. We let you in for free. You can
roam around and look as you please for free. Just
(40:47):
please subscribe to the channel because it helps us continue
to build the show. And if you're a complainer that
a lot of the you know, quote unquote national legacy
media platforms don't offer what you want. This is the
counter to that, because we can do whatever we want here.
Look at what the sign says. Yeah, it's just our show.
We can do whatever we want, thanks to you. So
(41:08):
please subscribe and keep it that way. Okay, So you
know how Flexpower is one of our new partners this year,
and with any partner we've ever had on the show,
one of the prerequisites to ever getting in the door
is you got to give our folks free stuff. You've
got to give our audience free stuff. That's why you
never see me doing this boiler plate like ad read
(41:29):
from companies that I don't use and companies that can't
give you free stuff. Flexpower said, yeah, we know, we've
watched the show for a long time now. I was like,
of course, you have my bad. So we've been giving
away generators. We actually gave away one for October to
Thomas Furra. He's out of Texas, friend of the program,
so he got a generator. That thing's an eight hundred
dollars value. By the way, those things are nice, very nice.
(41:52):
We got one sitting out in the sitting out in
the bullpen right now. I want to give away more.
Flex Power has agreed to give away more each of
the next three sundays on this show. We're giving away
a free flex Power generator that's an eight hundred dollars value.
These things are worth every penny. But I'm just saying
we're not giving away boxes of candy here, Like, this
is the real deal. This is a serious heavy merch
(42:14):
that we're giving away. There's no catch, you don't really
have to do anything. Here's all you need to do.
Jesse's gonna put a link in the live chat there
will also be a link in the show description here
on YouTube. It takes you to a form. Just fill
it out. I'm gonna give you to Tuesday. I think
that's fair. What was that, Jesse? Yeah, I'm about to
(42:35):
get to that. So on social here's what we want
you to do. Oh that's right. Did I mix it up? Jesse? Yeah,
I mix it up. That's with another giveaway later in
the show. Okay, I don't need you to go to
any form for flex power. Here's all I need you
to do. Just tell me why you want it. Take
your phone, record a video. Bonus points if you do
it at a tailgate, but you can do it anywhere,
(42:56):
and just tell us why you need the generator. That's
all you need to do. And then when you post it,
just use the hashtag flex power flex. That's flex power flex.
We're given one away each of the next three Sundays.
They're nice. I wasn't wrong about that, right, Jesse. They're
very nice, extremely nice generators. Hashtag flex power flex. All right,
(43:20):
let's move on. Oh what a game. We got so
many games left to get to. We've got the AP
I got to change my playoff predictions. We've got a
lot to get to Oregon pulled it out eighteen to
sixteen final over. Iowa got to give it four and
a half Chili four and a half Chili Classic there
in Iowa City, which I believe is the highest rating
(43:41):
we've ever put on an Iowa game. Dan Lanning, in
true psychopath form, chose to wear cotton and the pouring
rain up there. I had it on good authority throughout
the week that that was going to happen. Once we
called it out, there was no shot. There was already
little shot of him wearing anything other than cotton once
we called it out on the show, and then Will
and Taylor and me called it out in the locker room. Again.
(44:04):
We had a really good source on this, an extremely
good source. I would say, a source as close to
Dan Lanning as a source could possibly be told us
in terms that can't be expressed on the show. He's
wearing cotton. So he did, and he probably gained twenty
five thirty pounds in the game, but Oregon gained to win.
(44:26):
I don't know what they did in the bye week.
Normally you come out of the bye healthy. It sounds
like landing through his entire team into the Pacific ocean
three miles off shore and said, those of you who
make it to the beach can play against Iowa. Because
Decorian Moore was nowhere to be found. Kenyon Sadik missed
this game. They're right guard was out. So whoever survived
being lost at sea goes to Iowa City in the
(44:48):
pouring rain. And what did I tell you? The key was?
We circled this one last week and I said, the
key to this thing is Oregon's gotta go when Iowa's game,
because it was gonna be an Iowa game. The weather
dictated that this was not going to be a fireworks show.
And so if I were to tell you this is
sort of a padlock stat But if I were to
tell you Friday that the opening score in this game
(45:11):
was going to be a safety, that there were going
to be four hundred combined rush yards, that one team
was going to have more rush yards than both teams
combined had passing yards, that there would be eight drives
of four plus minutes, the final would be eighteen to sixteen,
It would be in the pouring rain, and the winning
team would have under one hundred and fifteen total passing yards.
(45:31):
Who would you think that game favored. That is an
Iowa game, that's a quintessential Iowa Hawkey's football game, and
the Oregon Ducks came out on top. You want a
padlock stat I'll give you one. Oregon out rushed them
two sixty one to one forty. That's it. Moment to
remember we had one in the Indiana game. I mean
(45:53):
we saw, we saw Kurt Signetti and crew go up
there and get a moment that will be played on
highlight reels for years to come. And I don't know
how many highlight reels that Dante More passed to Malik
Benson will make, but I guarantee it makes the cinematic
recap of the game. Because Oregon releases like basically a
movie after every game. I think they should enter it
(46:15):
in various film festivals. That's just me talking. But twenty
three seconds left, forty nine yard line and they just boom.
And the thing about that is the whole rest of
the game had been a nightmare trying to throw the ball.
And I've always got respect for guys who, despite the
fact that their stat sheets not loaded up, it's still
(46:37):
when it comes winning time, winners just find ways to
make those plays, which is always fun because when we're
on the road in the spring, in the summer, you
go watch guys they're doing like their summer workouts and
it's like ninety degrees outside. Guys maybe maybe not wearing
a shirt, they got shorts on. Everyone's poor and sweat.
And what's always been funny about the sport of football
(46:58):
to me is im brutal heat. To be able to
make some plays in freezing cold that will define your season.
It's always funny how how long the seasons are and
how year round the training is. But you're always training
in just scorching heat, knowing full well that you're trying
to get yourself ready for thirty seven degrees in Iowa
(47:20):
City in early November. And they were ready. They were
ready last year versus this year. Think about the difference.
Where were you last year? Where was Oregon last year?
I'll tell you where Oregon was. They were well on
their way to an undefeated regular season. They were well
on their way to a Big Ten championship, a number
(47:43):
one overall seed, and a first round by I'm not
saying those are bad things. They were actually very good things.
It didn't end the way they wanted, but they were
pretty dominant during the regular season. That's why they got
that number one overall seed. Compare that to this year.
They're cut, they've been bleeding. They've got close wins against
(48:04):
Penn State and Iowa. They got handled in their own
building by Indiana about a month or so ago. Right now,
they still could lose another game. All their remaining games
are losable. Minnesota not likely, but not impossible. And then
they got Southern Cal in there. They go to Washington
last game of the year. Washington season got ruined yesterday
(48:25):
that Oregon visit will be Washington super Bowl at the
end of the year. Not to mention, USC is a
top twenty team right now, so they could still lose
another game. Think about the perception no one's talking about
Oregon in the National Championship. You got to go three
teams deep in the Big Ten before people mention Oregon.
It's all Ohio State and Indiana. Right now, Oregon's vulnerable.
(48:47):
Everyone's pointing out their weaknesses and inefficiencies. I've pointed them out,
but they're alive and they control their own destiny. And
here's a question. It's kind of rhetorical now because we
don't know what the a answer will be what if
Oregon gets healthy, what if they get more back? What
if they get Kenyon Sadiq back Evan Stewart, No one
(49:08):
said that name in a while. What if they get
him back? What if they do what Ohio State did
last year? Ohio State brutalized them in the playoff. Why
because they peaked at the right time in Oregon didn't.
You don't think Dan Landing and his team and his
organization learned a lesson or two from that. So what
if they're going to peak at the right time? No guarantee,
(49:29):
Like I said, they could lose another game and get
knocked out of this thing and not even make the playoff.
But I'll just say, out of all these teams that
everyone keeps circling, is capable of winning a national title.
I haven't seen a lot of people include Oregon on
that list. Oregon is still on my list, is all
I'm saying. Not at the top of it, but Oregon
(49:51):
is still on that list right now. So just don't
include me as having been part of the group that's
eliminated quite yet. Is that fence riding a little bit?
A little bit? Are you picking them to win? No?
Are you picking them to lose. Absolutely not. What are
you picking them to do? Onto the next segment. This
(50:15):
is an exciting moment. We've been waiting for this for
a few months, and I have good news. I brought
my chapstick out on set tonight. That has nothing to
do with the announcement. Here we go. All right, it's
not as dry here as it was in Lubbock yesterday.
Dry heat. Great day though, So all right, this is
actually very serious. I moved here in January of twenty twenty.
(50:38):
Here is Nashville. I moved to Nashville in January of
twenty twenty. In March of twenty twenty, March third, if
my memory serves correct, twenty twenty, there was an e
F four tornado that came through Nashville middle of the night.
The only time I've ever taken shelter in my adult
life from a tornado was this night. Because I'm a stormchaser,
(50:59):
so normally I'm chasing tornadoes. Nashville just got blindsided by
what ended up being a killer tornado. March third, twenty twenty,
one year to the day after we had chased one
down in Beauregard, Alabama, also E four. So the only
two EF fours I've been in were a year to
the day apart from each other. This tornado comes through Germantown,
(51:19):
comes through Nashville, goes across the Cumberland River, it stays
on the ground for a long time, ended up going
out through Cookville and a lot of people lost their lives.
We've come to know a guy who lost his little
girl that night. His name's Matt. He has since started
(51:40):
a charity, started a foundation because of that event, because
they went through what it's like to have to bury
your child. No really easy way to state that. So
we've come to know him. He watches the show. He's
been a long time friend of the show, and he
has got a foundation called the Magnolia Foundation. So for
a long time on our show, the entire purpose of
(52:02):
really growing it as big as we have is to
be able to help as many people as we can.
It's really been part one A of the motivation. We
love college football number one and then one A we
could leverage the platform to help people. So we've never
partnered with a charity before. We are doing that as
of tonight. So the Magnolia Foundation specializes in assisting families
(52:26):
who have lost a child zero to eighteen years old,
and they help with funeral expenses, They help with counseling,
they help with commemorative care, which is fascinating and I
knew nothing about, but that is, you know, sort of
being there on important anniversaries that everyone else has probably
forgotten about. Is the months and years go on and
(52:46):
you know, just there to provide a little something. So
they help three families in twenty twenty five. Average cost
is about four thousand dollars per family. We want to
bump it up to five hundred families in twenty twenty six.
As you could imagine, there is a very, very big
need for this and we can help. Our show is
in a position to help. The brand is big enough
(53:06):
where we can help, so we're going to help. So
among the other things that we're going to do as
a show behind the scenes, I wanted to let you
know that we're adding Magnolia Foundation Peyte State Collaborative merchandise
into the store, so fifty percent of those proceeds will
go to the Magnolia Foundation. Among several other initiatives that
we'll be announcing in the coming weeks, but we wanted
(53:27):
to get that in the store peytstitmterial dot com because
Christmas is a huge priority for them. As you can imagine,
Christmas time is for people who are in need for
this specific reason. Now a lot of you are listening
to this right now and probably saying, I'm in I
don't need to go to the store. I don't need
to buy anything. I just want to help directly. The
Magnolia Foundation dot com slash give If you just want
(53:50):
to help directly, the Magnolia Foundation dot com slash give
is how you do it. We wanted to do something
fun in the store, so you got the hat there.
The hat looks great, by the way, the shirt does
as well. So those will be there just if you
want to show it, if you want to wear it.
But if you want to help, just straight up help
Themagnolia Foundation dot com slash gift. We'll be doing a
(54:13):
lot with them. So this is the charity that we're
partnering with as a people here at pate State. Really
good work they do. I've had them lay it out
for me. We've had several conversations with Matt, talk to
him for a while about this. We finally are able
to announce it publicly tonight. So happy to be a
part of this. All right, let's move on and let
(54:34):
me say hello to the live chat there. You know, Texas,
A and M had the antithesis of what Indiana had yesterday.
They went on the road and they just smoked someone
thirty eight to seventeen over Missouri one and a half
chili boring. Mike Elko would have it no other way.
They're doing everything national title contenders do. Flex Power presents
(54:55):
this entire sequence of events, and flex Power looks at
it and says, even we couldn't really generate much of
hope from Missouri here. They didn't say that. I put
those words in their mouth. But don't forget the pregame
dynamics in this game, Cause pregame a lot of people.
ME said, hey, Missouri, backup quarterback. Sometimes that's a good thing.
(55:19):
Speaking of generating, sometimes that generates some emotion, some fire.
And coming off of bye week drinking company, they've had
two weeks to get ready, and A and M's got
to go on the road as a favorite. This is
unfamiliar territory for them. I don't want to forget the
pregame dynamics. When someone shuts everyone up and blows their
opponent out, because that just makes it all the more impressive.
(55:42):
You don't get to say, in other words, watch out
A and M on upset alert, and then they beat
someone to death, and then you say, oh, who cares
there's a backup quarterback. I mean, of course they beat them. Nope,
you don't get to do that. That's just like the
guy who says, we got to run the ball here,
run the ball for no gain. I hate our playing.
What are we running the ball for here? You don't
get to be that guy. A lot of them out there,
(56:04):
A lot of them out there, we call them casuals.
Don't be one, especially a November casual. So the game
was completely over shortly after halftime, twenty one to nothing.
Missouri had no shot. Most of their offensive production came
after the game was already decided. Matt Zohler's look, I
don't know what to tell you. Seven of twenty two
for seventy seven yards thirty two percent completion percentage. Probably
(56:26):
not ready for this moment. Most quarterbacks aren't ready to
face A and M. But he especially wasn't the A
and M offense. You want to talk balance? Boy? Does
Colin Klein and his offense have something for you. Two
twenty one through the air and two touchdowns. That's great,
But what about the rushing members. I mean Bama, Bama
had a good night passing. They didn't run it for anything.
(56:46):
Two forty three rushing, three touchdowns. There's your balance. A
lot of different ways Texas, A and M can beat you.
And don't let these results get overlooked. I mentioned this earlier.
All the credit in the world to Indiana, all the
credit in the world to Oregon for going on the
road and gutting out wins. Those are games that SEC
teams find themselves in a lot, and we give the
(57:09):
SEC teams credit, and you give the Big ten teams
full credit for being in similar situations and pulling out
wins against teams they were favored against. However, sometimes what
can happen is those games attract all the attention and
everyone's watching Indiana drive on Penn State and come from
behind and win the game, and we're all impressed and stunned,
(57:31):
and our first reaction is to praise Indiana, as it
should be, and you give them a ton of credit
for pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat, and
you should. But see what you don't see is over
in Columbia, Missouri. A and M's just zipping up another
body bag who deserves more credit? And the reason I
mentioned those two next to each other is one of
them was ranked in front of the other one last week.
(57:53):
I think, wasn't it two and three Jesse? So I
wonder what the playoff committee thought about it. That was
a top twenty five team in Missouri. Now you don't
get to discredit that just because they won't be ranked
cause A and M beat them. That is a ranked
opponent that A and M just dismantled on the road.
(58:13):
Do they get more credit for it than Indiana gets
for a close win on the road? Now, it may
not matter at the end of the day. I think
it matters from a procedural standpoint. I think it matters
from a principal standpoint when it comes to how you
rank teams. So I'll be paying attention to that. Did
you notice in the preseason, Hey, look, I thought Lagway
(58:37):
was going to be the best quarterback in the league.
So I had some swings and misses just like everyone
else did in the preseason, and I've got to own that.
But one thing I have said in this preseason and
for really preseasons, even before Mike Elko got to college station,
is Texas A and M's one of the best jobs
in the country. Texas A and M can be one
of the best programs in the country, and you can
win a national title at Texas A and M. I
(59:00):
have been roundly mocked for holding that opinion. I've been
called an aggie Homer. People have alleged that I am
bought and paid for by Billy Lucci himself, And I'm
not denying the last part. If Lucci wants to disclose
how he spends his money, that's his business. I'm not
denying that Billy Lucci has bought and paid for me.
I'm not confirming it. I'm not commenting on it. But
(59:24):
I just want to ask everyone again because one of
my main talking points with A and M is there's
a big difference between can't and have it. Cannot is
a lot different than have not. Okay, Jesse cannot dunk
a basketball. I have not been to Alaska, but I
could go whenever I wanted. So Texas A and M
(59:46):
people say they cannot win a national title, I simply
believe they have not won a national title, and more
so than winning one, which takes a little bit of
luck along with a lot of skill, just being in
position to win one. They're there right now. They're there
right now. So I just wanted to offer everyone one
more opportunity. It is November ninth. I'm not guaranteeing anything here,
(01:00:09):
That's not what this is about. I just want to
make sure I'm understanding everyone correctly. Who keeps beating this
drum or They have been. The drum's been pretty quiet
as the season's going on, honestly, but up until this season,
a lot of people have told me they can't. They can't,
they can't, they can't. Is anyone out there still have
the opinion that Texas A and M football cannot win
(01:00:30):
a national championship? Not in this particular year, I just
mean in general. Now that you've seen sort of the
first versions of what they're going to be under Mike Elco,
this is year two. Now that you're starting to see
that come into form. Now the microscope start, you turn
a little knob there, starting to come into focus, and
(01:00:51):
you see what's in the Petrie dish there. It's just
Mike Elico looking up at you. Now that you see that,
are you still of the opinion that they can't or
could it just be that they have not. I'm giving
you an opportunity. That's what God created the comments section for.
That's what God created the live chat for. If you're
(01:01:15):
around you know, if you're watching the video and you're
a Texas A and M fan and you're like, hey,
I like this channel. Thank you, thank Missouri fans. I
doubt many of you chose to watch the show tonight,
but if you have, thank you, look, just subscribe to
the channel. That's all I ask. That's all I ask.
Thank you. And in the interest of giving away more
(01:01:35):
free stuff. Now, this is where the form comes into play.
Academy Sports and Outdoor has been a longtime partner of
our show, almost from day one. We came up here,
and Academy has been right there with us. We appreciate them.
I like I've done with flex Power, like I've done
with Quick Trip. I go to Academy occasionally and I
say it's time to give the folks some free stuff,
and they're like, okay. So here's how it works with Academy. Tonight,
(01:01:58):
We're gonna give away twenty p codes for twenty percent
off your purchases perchai plural of purchase. My word, not theirs.
Now is when Jesse's going to put a form in
the live chat. He's going to put a form in
the show description if you want an opportunity to be
one of the lucky twenty that gets twenty percent off
your purchase, no limit on the purchase, by the way,
(01:02:19):
by the whole store for all week here. Just put
your information in the dot. We'll announce it Tuesday. We're
gonna give away twenty of those and we'll let you
know tuesday. That's it. That's all Christmas shopping coming up.
Sure would be nice to pay twenty percent less than
you were going to pay, and twenty of you will
have that privilege if you fill out that form. That's it.
That's it. Sad news here. It's not sad news because
(01:02:43):
it's not news. It's nothing that's happened yet. Bradley, here's
a good endpoint for you. Mike Norvel and FSU lost
to Clemson last night twenty four to ten. I woke
up this morning, looked at the eye Josh, and I
saw some texts that led me to believe FSU was
gonna let Mike Norvel go today brings me no joy.
(01:03:04):
I like Mike Norvel, but as we've long established on
this show, guys that I like get fired all the time.
So I thought Mike Norvel was gonna get fired today.
And as the morning went on, it looked like it
became less and less likely. And as you can see,
it's Sunday night, and Mike Norvel hasn't been fired, and
I don't think he will be today. I don't think
he will be this week. They're gonna play Virginia Tech
(01:03:26):
this Saturday, and so that is what it is for
at least another week. And then they closed the season
at NC State and at Florida. I heavily leaned towards
the fact that this was gonna happen, or the idea
that this was gonna happen this morning. So I keep
coming back to the same thing, and I think a
lot of Florida State fans are the same way. What
are we waiting on if it's going to happen, if
(01:03:50):
it's a foregone conclusion, if the buyout money doesn't really
change all that much, if we wait to the end
of the season, versus if we do it now and
other programs are doing it and getting a head start
on us, and we figure to hire from the same
pool as they are. What are we waiting on him?
And my answer is, I don't know. I've talked to
(01:04:11):
quite a few people about this. I don't know what
Florida State's waiting on. I want to establish one more time,
I don't yell for dudes to get fired. I'm not
yelling for Mike to get fired. My opinion doesn't matter here.
The opinion of the people who do matter, big money people,
administrative types, the athletic director at Florida State, all seem
(01:04:34):
to be that he is going to get fired. So
if he's gonna be fired eventually, why aren't you doing
it immediately. It's not to save money, and from the
sound of things, it's not for you to come up
with the money. It sounded like if they needed the
money today, they'd have the money today. So if that's true,
then period on the end of the sentence. If it's
not true, and you're still trying to come up with
(01:04:56):
the money, and by the way, they need about sixty
million to fire him, if you haven't come up with
the money, does that mean that there are some people
who are holdouts on Mike Norvell who you think are
gonna be convinced between now and the end of the
year that he needs to be let go, But they're
not convinced yet, because I'm not sure if you're not
already convinced, what a few more losses are going to
(01:05:18):
do to convince you. Again. I don't tell people how
to spend their tens of millions of dollars. I just
find it very peculiar that anyone with reasonable enough intelligence
to acquire a net worth of that size is ignorant
enough to think the outcome of four quarters against NC
State could fundamentally change your opinion on whether or not
to pay a guy sixty million dollars to not coach
(01:05:39):
for you anymore. If you think it's crazy to pay
a guy not to coach for you, and you're not
gonna do it no matter what. Okay, that doesn't seem
to be the score down there right now. The way
it sounds is we've either got the money already and
we're just waiting for the right time, which makes no sense,
or we still got to get a few people on board.
If they're not already on board, how are you gonna
get him on board. So there's another school of thought
(01:06:00):
around there that is the athletic director came out and
kind of indicated they were going to see it through
to the end of the year a few weeks ago.
So he wants to be a man of his word.
I'm all for being a man of your word. That's
why I am not forever saying things that you really
have no business fulfilling on. You had no business given
(01:06:21):
the vote of confidence. The season was already down the drain,
and you were highly likely to find yourself in this
position where you need to make a move on a guy.
So there's another school of thought around there that is
they do have the money. They are on borrowed time,
because every day they wait to do the inevitable is
a day that other programs that have pulled the trigger
(01:06:43):
get that much further ahead of them down the road
of their coaching searches. Also, it wastes time that Mike
Norvel could be spending on his own search because there's
a duty to mitigate in its contract, which, for those
of you who don't speak a lawyer, means when Mike
gets fired and we think it's a formality at this point,
(01:07:04):
he has a duty to go look for another job.
Mike Norvel will get another job. He's a good head
football coach, probably a level above where he needed to be.
But Mike Norvel didn't accidentally succeed at Memphis, and he'll probably,
if I had to guess, go back to the G
five level. Who knows, Maybe he goes back to Memphis.
It's not open right now. It could be maybe he
(01:07:25):
goes to North Texas, maybe he goes somewhere like that.
He's not going anywhere as long as as your head
coach is the point. And I got news for you.
Some of these programs out there that are gonna end
up hiring the G five coaches, which would vacate a
G five spot, they're not waiting until December. Okay. A
lot of these deals are being locked up behind the
scenes right now. They may not be announced till December,
(01:07:45):
but some of these G five openings, they're gonna know
they have openings well before December, which means if your
guy is going to be a candidate for those jobs,
and if the salary they're gonna pay your guy offsets
the amount of buyout money you have to pay him,
then you want him free as early as possible to
go seek out future employment. Again, Am I missing anything here?
(01:08:08):
Anyone at Florida State who wants to walk me through
some logic that I'm missing, some critical information and context
that I'm missing. It wouldn't be the first time. It's
why I do these segments. A lot of times we'll
do these kind of segments and we'll get hit up,
sometimes straight up by the athletic director himself. I always
appreciate the context and they'll lay it out for you,
(01:08:28):
and you know, sometimes it's their version of events or whatever.
But I haven't heard anything like that. I'm looking at
it and best I can tell, Florida State knows they
need to do something. It's past time to do it,
and they haven't done yet. And it'd be one thing
if they were on the fence about it. But it
doesn't sound like they're on the fence about it. It
sounds like everybody down there, including Mike, I would assume,
(01:08:49):
knows that this move is going to be made. So
what are we waiting on? I have no idea. That's
your Mike Norvell update for Sunday. But just think about
what we're saying here. What we're saying is to go
back twenty seven, eight nine, thirty three days ago math
I led the show and I said, this is gonna
be the most insane coaching carousel you've ever seen. And
(01:09:12):
here we are. We're on the precipice of having the
Florida State job come open. In addition to Florida being open,
and Auburn being open, and Penn State being open, and
LSU being open, Arkansas is open, Oklahoma State is open. Also,
think about the domino effect. If and I'm just throwing
(01:09:33):
this out there, I am just you know what, I'm
gonna make up such a random example that you know
I'm just making it up. Let's say PJ. Fleck, We're
to take the LSU job. Here's a hot rumor. I'm
just using this as an example. If Fleck took the
LSU job, that means the Minnesota job is open, which
begins the chain reaction of the jobs that come open
(01:09:55):
because other jobs are getting filled. So this is a
ripple effect that lasts for weeks and weeks and weeks.
And that's not even to mention what it does to
the coordinator market. That's not even to mention that. So
I also look, I know that a lot of you
get into this, like there's this whole cottage industry of
(01:10:16):
people who just like talking about hot seat stuff. I
don't like talking about it because I like a lot
of these guys. I like Mike Norvell. So I hate
that this is the way it is, but it's the
way it is right now. Virginia Tech open, you see
LA's open, Stanfords open. It's crazy time, all right. They're
watching us in Saint Augustine, Florida, Round Rock, Texas, Billings, Montana.
Thank you guys so very much. I've got some added takeaways.
(01:10:41):
Let me react to the ap pole coming up. I
got some best bets. The ram Innudle Express is on fire.
We look to continue our winning wasts tonight. So we
got a lot of show left strap in some added
takeaways from week eleven. Georgia just kind of went to
Starkville and found out Brandon Walker was there, and that
was all she over for Mississippi State. They're not going
(01:11:01):
to win a game with Brandon Walker in attendance. Everyone
knows that. Jeff Leby probably knows it, but it brings
notoriety the entire barstool ecosystem descended on Starkville, but so
did a loss. So I don't know. Man, Georgia forty
one Mississippi State twenty one, kind of a secret splattering.
I regret in retrospect that I did not announce the
(01:11:22):
splattering when it was Georgia thirty eight Mississippi State seven.
Georgia went over three hundred yards on the ground, just
all out assault on the ground. Gunner Stockton for all
the rushing success yesterday, if you watch him now, I
saw our buddy Jake Row make this point, and I
thought it was a really good point. When you watch
Gunner Stockton now versus early in the year, he's so
(01:11:45):
much more quick and decisive with the ball, which is
what you hope to see with first year starters at quarterback.
Like the best programs tend to have their guys continue
to slowly sort of maybe in a linear way, just scale.
Sometimes it's sometimes it's accuracy, sometimes it's completion percentage. Sometimes
it's decision making, like whatever that little hole in your
(01:12:08):
game is, just shrink the hole. And I think Gunner
Stockton has done that quite favorably. Immunity so Georgia looked
really good, and that had look again I don't want
to gloss this over just because they handled business that
was a dangerous spot for them. They were coming off
the Florida game, emotional last minute when they go on
the road, right before Texas comes to town. Let down, spot,
(01:12:32):
look ahead spot, all the stuff that you always make
a big deal about in college football. Will credit Georgia
for rendering all of that totally irrelevant. The ACC rendered
itself almost irrelevant yesterday. It was a nightmare day for
the ACC. So Wake Forest beat Virginia sixteen to nine.
Cal beat Louisville in overtime, twenty nine to twenty six.
(01:12:56):
Yukon beat Duke. Two of those were on the Roman looks.
I think Yukon was one of our best bets. Yes,
they were, thirty seven, thirty four. Jim Moore junior just
kind of quietly getting the job done at Yukon. Not
hearing his name mentioned in coaching searches. I assume there's
a reason. I assume there's a reason some places care
(01:13:16):
more about things than just winning. You know, if anyone
can win, can you win the press conference? Actually more
can win the press conference for you too. Although his
press conferences have laid up, there have left a little
bit to be desired. Do you know who the offensive
coordinator at Cal is right now? It is one Brian Harson,
whose stock looks better and better every day once you
(01:13:38):
see how the Hugh Freeze era played out at Auburn.
But I digress. Brian Harson calling the exact plays that
have worked against him in years past just brilliance. And
you think about being Cal. Okay, Cal flies from Berkeley,
it is Charlottesville, North Carolina. They're in overtime. Think about
the difference. I talk to Brian Hart last night. I'm like,
(01:14:01):
think about the difference in that call in overtime, and
it either goes one way or it goes the other way.
And you're about to fly six or seven hours back
across the country with either a win or a loss
depending on the outcome of one play. It went their way.
So what's happening in the ACC now, Well, the picture
is anyone's guess. I have no clue what's going to
(01:14:22):
happen in the ACC. There are five teams with one
conference loss, and none of them look all that great.
Miami and Louisville have two losses, and I think from
a power ratings perspective, We probably have them as the
best power rated teams in the conference, but that doesn't
matter because they've both lost a couple of conference games.
So here's what's happening. SMU and Louisville are going to
(01:14:45):
play each other, A Pitt and Georgia Tech play each other.
Pitt also plays Miami, Virginia plays Duke. So yeah, to
a certain extent, this will sort itself out. But I
think right now yet, Georgia Tech's got the best odds
to win the league title, and do is number two?
Duke is Jesse or they have three or a four
loss team. They're a four loss team right now, but
(01:15:08):
only one of those losses is in conference. Virginia has
two losses to conference teams, but only one of those
is a conference loss. It's a mess. It's a complete mess,
and somehow, some way, a conference champion will emerge. We'll
talk more about that later. Vanderbilt beat Auburn, and there
are some paper Popper stats here forty five thirty eight.
(01:15:30):
We were flying back into Nashville last night. We flew
right over Commodore Stadium and I'm looking down thinking to myself,
is that thirty eight on the board for Auburn, Answer yes,
did they just lose anyway? Answer yes, Cole Kublick with
one of the stats of the year here. Vanderbilt is
now one and one hundred and seventy all time when
(01:15:51):
allowing thirty eight points or more. What Cornelius Vanderbilt himself
was alive the last time that happened. DJ Diurkin defensive
coordinator takes over the team and they suddenly catch fire
offensively but can't stop anything defensively. Vanderbilt is the most
(01:16:12):
sneaky playoff contender right now. They are so close. They
got a bye week, they got Kentucky, and then they
go to Tennessee and that last weekend of the season.
There are a few games setting up Georgia, Georgia Tech,
Texas Texas A and M Vandy Tennessee. These games could
decide playoff spots. There could be so much on the line.
(01:16:33):
Some of those are Friday games, some of those are
Saturday games. Odds to make the playoff right now, Vanderbilt
is plus two thirty five. Those are not terribly long
odds at all. By comparison, Georgia's minus three thousand. Vegas
Feeling vandul Feeling were really good about Georgia right now,
and good for them, good for them Nebraska. I wanted
(01:16:56):
to point this out right quick. Will Compton Memorial portion
of the show, He's still TJ Latif brings Nebraska back
to life. Last night he went out to the Rose Bowl.
He's from Compton, so it was one of those classic storybook,
come back home and win type performances. He was thirteen
or fifteen, two five through the air, added someone on
the ground, had three touchdowns passing. How do you feel
(01:17:18):
about Nebraska? Nebraska is one of the teams in college football.
There's this chunk of teams that are just good every year,
not very good, not elite, they're good and in this
ten or trash mentality that a lot of people have,
you're either a playoff team or you suck. You're either
ten or your trash. There are several rungs on any ladder.
(01:17:42):
You can go buy one an academy right now. You'll
see there are many rungs on it. Okay, so Nebraska's
not nine or ten, but they're not one or two either.
They're just like rung six. Right now, they're seven to three.
They got a game at Penn State and a game
against Iowa. They need to win one of those games
to go over their season win total. So I know
(01:18:02):
things seem disappointing right now, people like me who may
or may not but definitely did predict Nebraska to make
the playoff. Yes, the season has fallen a little bit
short of my expectation, but they would have beaten USC
if the quarterback didn't go down, so they'd still be
right there in the playoff hunt. So all I'm saying
is it's not my fault. That's all I'm saying. And
(01:18:23):
we'll see how they do these final two games of
the season. But good for them last night. But that's
not why you tuned in, is it. That's not a
Sarah McLaughlin special. That was just a good competitive game
out on the West Coast. Tim Branda on the play
by play, singing, I'll be there by the spinners going
to break. Full credit to Uncle Tim for that. But no, friends,
(01:18:43):
that's not where I want to take your attention, because
there was something that happened in Lexington, Kentucky last night.
I don't know what you thought was going to happen
when Florida went to play Kentucky. Florida was favored by
three and a half in the game till you know
what you're thinking it could be a close game, right,
(01:19:04):
We thought we would get a close game. Instead, what
we got is this week Sarah mcgloughlin special Kentucky thirty
eight Florida seven. What I'm about to say could actually
be the title of a Sarah mcgloughlin song. It could
be called Kentucky didn't punt cause Kentucky didn't punt. DJ
Lagway got benched in the game after three more interceptions.
(01:19:27):
No Florida wide receiver went over thirty yards. Florida as
long as drive was thirty five yards. I have here
The shocking Florida drive chart goes a little something like this.
These are the lyrics. Interception, punt, touchdown of thirteen yards.
That's how long the drive was. This is when it
(01:19:48):
really gets bad. Fumble, three and out, interception, interception, halftime adjustments, punt,
turnover on downs, turnover on downs. That's the end of
the game. Mark Stoops owns Florida. He doesn't need to
take the job. He already owns Florida. He is four
(01:20:09):
and one in his last five and stat of the
evening earmuffs in Gainesville. This was Kentucky's biggest margin of
victory over the Gators since the nineteen fifties. They watched
the game in black and white. Florida heads back to
Gainesville black and blue. They are the Sarah McLaughlin special
(01:20:29):
for Week eleven. It brings me no joy. It brings
me no joy. Let's move on, just brutal, brutal, brutal times.
The AP pole has dropped. Do you hear that? There?
It is? It just dropped right there, generated by flex power.
We appreciate them for generating the AP pole and they
deliver it to us papers still hot. Let's take a
(01:20:52):
look at what we have, because we have some interesting occurrences.
I would say in the twenty four and twenty five
positions where USF has mysteriously re entered the AP pole
at number twenty five, and I approve James Madison is
number twenty four. Now, just a week ago, I said
the JP pole power ratings, not rankings. We had JMU
(01:21:15):
as the highest power rated G five team, and people scoffed, Well,
now they're the highest ranked G five team, So what
shall people say now? Pitts at number twenty three since
heus twenty two. Tennessee is twenty one, So I want
you to look at who number twenty is there. Virginia
is at number twenty now. They did drop eight spots.
(01:21:36):
I would take every one of the teams listed twenty
one through twenty five and ranked them ahead of Virginia.
Virginia was holding on by a thread, but that's okay
because they did deserve to be ranked as high as
they were because they only had one loss. And unlike
power ratings, this is merit based. You kind of sort
(01:21:57):
of somewhat are what your record says you are in
rankings land. But if your resume is really hollow, if
you lack high level wins and even against subpar teams,
you're just kind of skating by by the skin of
your teeth. That's fine, but you're really on a bubble,
and once you lose a second game and that bubble deflates,
you should disappear. Virginia should be nowhere close to number
(01:22:19):
twenty right now. In my mind, there should be nowhere
near where they are right now. Louisville at nineteen I
got less of a problem with They dropped five spots.
I got less of a problem with it Louisville faced
a really good quarterback last night. Virginia did not. All
due respect to Wake Forest, Virginia did not. So Louisville
(01:22:39):
at nineteen. I just think Louis's a better team. So
that may be a little bias coming in. Michigan at
eighteen sneaky, sneaky team right now. If you don't believe me,
let me just float this out there to you. Michigan's
at eighteen. You know they still got the Ohio State
game coming up. Michigan's a two lost team, right so
you've kind of dismissed them. When you talk about the
Big Ten, it's all Ohio State, Indiana, Ohio State, Indiana,
(01:23:02):
maybe Oregon. Well, one of Michigan's losses was at Oklahoma.
There are other losses, usc only one of those teams
is a Big Ten team. That means Michigan has one
conference loss. What happens if they beat Ohio State and
they are a one loss Big Ten team with a
head to head tiebreaker over Ohio State, who's going to Indianapolis?
(01:23:27):
Has anyone even considered this or are we slipping into
this coma again where since we think Ohio State's the
better team and there'll be a big point spread favorite.
We're just gonna like project them past Michigan. I've done
that in the past four years. I cannot allow myself
to slip into that coma for a fifth consecutive year,
So we have to consider this as a possibility. USC
(01:23:48):
is seventeen. Usc is still in the hunt for a
playoff spot, and the Big Ten championship picture is still
a little muddy, So let's just keep an eye on that.
Miami at sixteen. Miami was what eighteen the other night
I think in the playoff rankings Jesse, So we got
to find out is Miami gonna run the score up
on everybody first? That's a big first question. They did
(01:24:12):
yesterday against fran Brown and Syracuse in that order. If
they keep doing that, how high can they climb? Like?
How high is the committee going to let them climb back?
We'll see. Sixteen is where the AP has them this week,
we'll see where the committee has in. Utah's at fifteen,
very very important to keep an eye on them for
at large purpi plural of purpose. Utah's three remaining games
(01:24:36):
I believe are Baylor and the two Kansas schools, So
not an easy trio of games to close out the season.
If they win all three of those, they're differing schools
of thought about where they'll land on the playoff bubble.
But I think a ten to two Utah is going
to be very much in play independent of what happens
ahead of them. Now, if they have some chaos happened
ahead of them, they're very much in play. But Utah
(01:24:57):
at fifteen, I'm good with Georgia Tech fourteen. I'm good
with Vandy's at thirteen. There's such a quiet playoff contender.
And remember this is November. Now, this is November. So
if you're gonna run out of gas, now's the time.
And they survived against Auburn last night. That's all that
matters right now because they've got quality enough wins where
(01:25:17):
they just need to check the box every week. Check
the box. Do it against Kentucky. Just check the box.
It's more than Florida could do last night and get
to that final game at Neeland, which is for them,
a play in game. Brigham Young is twelve. I don't
think they dropped far enough. Now. It's a running it's
a running theory that I hate Brigham Young. I don't
(01:25:39):
I could not care less one way or the other.
I have no natural opposition to Brigham Young. I think
as long as they were winning, they deserve to be
higher than this. They deserve to be top ten, which
they were, But much like with Virginia, they don't have
the big wins to hang their hat onto the degree
that like some of the teams in the top ten do. Now.
The Utah win was a very good win, a very
(01:26:01):
very good win, so I'm not taking that away from them,
but I believe because of the style of the game
that was played yesterday, it was a very very convincing
win by Texas Tech and the fact that you don't
have these other data points just lined up in your favor.
I thought they'd dropped further. They only dropped four spots.
So that's the ap What we got to wait on
(01:26:22):
is for Tuesday night, how far will the playoff committee
drop them, because we saw like when Georgia Tech lost
a couple of weeks ago or two weeks ago, whatever
it was, a couple is two. Georgia Tech dropped a
little bit, Miami dropped a big time and that was
miami second loss. Brigham Young are only one loss, but
I would argue Miami's got better wins, including one against
(01:26:43):
Notre Dame that's better than anything Brigham Young had. I
just wonder how far I think the committee may drop
them further than the AP did. Keeping a close eye
on that. Oklahoma at eleven and then we get top ten.
Texas is right there ahead of Oklahoma. So the AP
is essentially doing what the playoff committee did, which is
putting them back to back. Texas gets the edge as
they should because they've got the head to head edge
(01:27:05):
Notre Dames at nine and their last test is this week.
I mean, if they lose anything beyond this week, then
they ought not being the conversation to begin with. They
go to Pitt, game day is going to be there.
They are a ten and a half point favorite, I
think on the road at Pitt. They're at number nine.
Right now, they've got a lot of separation from Miami,
(01:27:27):
who has a head to head win over them. So
until further notice, that head to head win is not
going to be a deciding data point. Think what you
will about that, it just is what it is. Texas
Tech is at number eight. They jumped one spot. Oregon
is they're at seven, and they or no, Texas Tech
jumped one spot. Oregon's at seven. They dropped a spot.
They went on the road beat a top twenty playoff team.
(01:27:50):
At least the AP didn't have Iowa ranked. The playoff
committee did. Oregon went on the road, beat them and
dropped a spot. I got no clue. Anyone looking for
an explanation on this show, I got no clue. Ole
miss Is at number six. I have no idea why
Organ dropped ole miss Is at number six, and then
the top five is unchanged. It looks like an Oklahoma
(01:28:11):
election county map. On election I just all read Georgia, Bama,
an M, Indiana, Ohio state, So Indiana state at number two,
A and M still at number three. I would switch
those two right now. I would put an M at
number two. I think the playoff committee may very well
jump A and M over Indiana. And that's not punishment
(01:28:33):
for Indiana as much as it is credit for A
and M going on the road against the top twenty
ranked team, top twenty five ranked team and really kind
of handling them like that's another data point on a resume,
and I want you to pay attention. Keep this up
for a second. Bradley immunity. We keep getting closer and
closer to one of the chaos scenarios we pointed out
(01:28:56):
the other night, the SEC flood conundrums. We are sitting
here on November ninth, We're going into week twelve. We
still have seven SEC teams in the top sixteen, all
of them with two losses or fewer. A and M, Bama, Georgia, Ole, Miss, Texas,
(01:29:16):
Oh You, and Vandy all have two or fewer losses.
Some of them play each other, but like, for example,
Texas goes to Georgia this week, Texas can beat Georgia,
and Georgia didn't go anywhere. They're still in it. You know,
Vandy like goes to Tennessee, so Tennessee could knock Vandy out.
But like there Bama plays Oklahoma this week. Oh you
(01:29:40):
could go to Bama and win. It does knocked Bama
out of anything. Bama would just be a two loss
team that is in play for an at large spot.
But like if Texas and know You were to go
on the road and win this week, it'd be a
huge story. First off. Secondly, the four combined teams in
that scenario, all of them are still alive. So if
you have Bama beat o Lahoma. If you have Georgia
(01:30:01):
beat Texas and give each of them or one of
them a third loss, then they're on maybe the outside
looking in. But just everyone keeps thinking this thing is
going to sort itself out, and maybe it will. We're
running out of weeks for it to sort itself out,
is all I'm saying. You're running out of week's until
Christmas arrives. You know you have shopping to do. I
(01:30:23):
am here to help you. Peytstatematerial dot Com has the
best Christmas merch in town. Tis the Season collection up
right now. I have always told you the Rama Noodle
Express T shirt is our best seller. That is changing
because the Merry Christmas You Filthy Casual sweater is skyrocketing
up the sales charts, and our other Christmas sweaters are too.
(01:30:45):
So the tis the Season collection is perhaps the greatest
thing we've done in the young history of the petstatematerial
dot Com store. Here it is right there over my shoulder.
Tis the season to be chuggy? Are you kidding me?
How do you not wear that? I don't know. Let's
move on so on Sunday nights now, every Sunday night
(01:31:05):
until selection Sunday. I got to update my playoff predictions
because I want to be right on this, and I've
decided the only way to be right is to update
my predictions every week until the last week, in which
case I'm bound to be right Eventually. You want to
know how long this season is. I took it upon
myself to remind everyone of how long the college football
(01:31:26):
season is. Earlier today, I took to Twitter at Josh
pat CFP, and I said, the college football calendar is
mental warfare. So you're thinking to yourself, probably, oh man,
we're almost to the finish line, right. It's we're second
week of November. We're almost to the finish line. Do
you realize that for the two teams that will play
(01:31:47):
in the National title Game, tonight marks the midway point
between Week one and the National Championship Game. It's insane.
We feel like the seasons on over. For the two
teams that will play on January nineteenth, we are seventy
one days away from that, and we are seventy days
(01:32:07):
removed from the Saturday of Week one. That's how long
the college football season is now. I'm telling you most
of these programs are not equipped for it mentally. That's
the one thing Ohio State mastered last year, and I
think Ohio State is probably doing the best job of
anyone in the country of continuing to have mastered is
understanding how long you have to be in football mode,
(01:32:31):
locked in mentally, stay in healthy, physically peaking at the
right time. How long you have to keep meeting those parameters.
Cause there are teams that are going to make the
playoff that will be eliminated over a month before the
National Championship game happens. I even feel that way when
I watch March Madness, Like the teams that make just
(01:32:52):
the round of sixty four, sixty eight, whatever it is now,
but they get eliminated on the first day. Think about
how long the game is between the day those teams
got eliminated and the night of the National Championship. Or
in baseball, you get eliminated in the wild card round
and then you watch the NLDS and NLCS and World
Series play out, and you think to yourself, dude, if
(01:33:13):
we would have made it that far, we would have
still been playing all this time. That would have been forever.
It feels like forever ago we got eliminated. So just
keep that in mind. In the ACC, I have to
adjust this because I have to every five minutes. I
have no idea I encourage anyone to properly handicap the ACC.
Right now, I'll just take Georgia Tech over Duke because
(01:33:35):
they have the two best odds to win the conference
right now. Again, I can't stress how little confidence I
have in my ACC championship pick, unless Georgia Tech goes
on to win it, in which case I will claim
that I told you so. In the Big Twelve, still
got Texas Tech winning it. I'm gonna put Cincinnati in there.
Cincinnati in the Big Twelve championship game. It could very
(01:33:58):
well be Brigham Young, but give me Texas Tech over Cincinnati.
I got Texas Tech winning the conference no matter what.
That's the important takeaway. I will still take Bama over
A and M in the SEC championship game because I
predicted it preseason and Bama is still Bama and A
and M have very similar odds right now. Bama's got
slightly better odds. Let's just it's gonna take a little
(01:34:22):
bit to pull me off of my preseason prediction. Okay,
I got to cling to one of them. So the
Bama pick is what I'm clinging to right now. But yeah,
it's gonna be very competitive game if it happens. Big
Ten still got Ohio State over Indiana, so I haven't
changed anything there. As for the way that I would
see the playoffs seeded. Right now, we have got Ohio
(01:34:44):
State beating Indiana in the Big Ten championship game. Here's
the one change I've made. I am projecting A and
M to lose a game somewhere, maybe the Texas game.
I don't know, but I'm predicting to lose a game
somewhere right So that affect how the seeding is going
to happen, because I still got A and M and
Obama in Atlanta. Because I have that, I think Ohio
(01:35:07):
State and Alabama would be one two. I think Indiana
loser of the Big Ten title game would be the
three seed, and A and M loser of the SEC
championship game would be the four seed. Remember, the rules
this year are different. It's not the highest four ranked
conference champs to get the buys, it's just the highest
four ranked teams. So I think we are looking at
(01:35:28):
overwhelming odds right now that the four teams that get
the buys are the two Big tens and the two secs,
and that's what I'd project right now, Texas Tech winning
the Big twelve. There's going to be some debate on this.
I think the committee is going to reward that data
point of winning a conference title to vault them above
some of the at large SEC teams. I will see
(01:35:51):
that's going to be a strong debate point. But I
would put Texas Tech five right now. I got Georgia six,
right behind them at large team Oregon at seven, give
me Ole Miss at eight, Notre Dame sitting there at
number nine. Here's where it gets really interesting because there
is a little bit of a shelf drop off after
number nine. Texas. I believe if they split the Georgia
(01:36:15):
and Texas A and M games, and especially if they
lose this Saturday close in Athens, but they close the
season with a win over at that point undefeated A
and M, I think Texas may slip in as a
three loss team. So in order to shoot that down,
you're gonna have to give me a resume that's gonna
definitively disprove that not in your eyes, in the eyes
(01:36:38):
of the committee, I think the committee may give strong
consideration to three loss Texas. You may think, well, Oklahoma
would be there too, right, yes, but Texas has the
head to head over them. So I'm like pencil projecting
Texas in at the ten seed. Georgia Tech acc champ
at eleven. USF is my G five team that I've
got locking down the twelve seed right now, here's what
(01:37:00):
that would mean in terms of the old bracket hand
drawn right here in front of me. That would give
us Notre Dame at ole Miss first round. Can you
imagine Oxford, Mississippi, with Marcus Freeman and company rolling into town,
and we got USF at Texas Tech. So Lubbock gets
a home playoff game, Texas at Oregon in the first round,
(01:37:23):
pure unadult traded cinema right there, and Georgia Tech at Georgia.
I'm so sorry I didn't plan it this way. The
committee swears they will not take into account former matchups,
So if it were to play out this way, the
Committee and I have no reason to adopt these people.
The committee says they will not hesitate to send Georgia
Tech to Athens. So here's how I would have those
(01:37:46):
playing out. I would have Ole Miss over Notre Dame
at home. That one was really that's a coin flip.
I got ole Miss going on to face Ohio State.
I have got Texas Tech beating South Florida to go
on to face Texas A and M. So we've got
A and M Texas Tech in a second round game.
Give me Oregon over Texas, Texas on the roads. Tough
(01:38:08):
spot for him this year. Give me Oregon over Texas,
and give me Georgia over Georgia Tech. So are quarter
final matchups heavy hitters here? We got three sec big
tens here. Gimme ole Miss Ohio State with Ohio State winning,
give me A and M Texas Tech with A and
M winning, Give me Alabama Oregon with Alabama winning. And
(01:38:31):
I am going to take Georgia over Indiana. That will
be controversial, That's okay. Georgia is peaking at the right
time in this scenario. If they're not, it's a moot
point and they won't even be facing Georgia here. So
final four, I got to take Ohio State over A
and M. I've got to take Alabama over Georgia, and
(01:38:51):
Obama's my preseason pick. So until there is indisputable evidence whatever,
that would be that knocks me off of that pick.
I'm gonna stick with my preseason pick. Now. If I
were picking this from scratch, would I pick Alabama to
win the national title? Right now? I can't exactly confirm that,
but you're gonna have to peel that preseason national championship
(01:39:13):
prediction from my cold dead hands. And I am very much,
very much warm handed right now. I'm looking at that
bracket though. That first round. I mean that Notre Dame
at Ole Miss and Texas at Oregon in the first
round is unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. If you would like to
disagree with me, you don't just have to type angrily
(01:39:35):
in the comment section. You can, Okay, that's your constitutional right,
as long as you don't use the band words. You can.
But what you really can do is you can go
to FanDuel right now and just bet the futures. You
could bet the odds market right now. If you think
that Duke's gonna win the ACC Championship, be my guest,
go bet it right now. New sign ups at FanDuel
(01:39:55):
get one hundred and fifty dollars in bonus bets if
you bet five and you win. That simple we have
been rolling. We have Romandel Express seven and four again yesterday,
so fourteen and eight. I think past two weeks we
are rolling. We're just kind of continuing to build distance
between ourselves and that five hundred mark. Continuing to build distance,
(01:40:18):
continuing to sell the Romanuel Express T shirt there in
the paint statemateial dot com store as well. But FanDuel
has your hookup team props in there, Heisman bets in there.
Fernando Mendoza's odds took a little bit of a bump yesterday.
I saw that. So FanDuel is where you can go
for all that, and FanDuel is also where you can
go to bet the Romanudel Express itself. And I am
(01:40:39):
adding our first best bet of week twelve. We are
going right back to the well with Coastal Carolina. They're
at Georgia Southern Coastal is plus two and a half.
We like it. I would imagine we'll add somewhere between
eight nine ten more bets as the week goes on,
but that is our first one. We usually do pretty
good with those first bets. However, I want to emphasize
(01:41:01):
these bets are not meant to be cherry picked. And
they are not meant to be bet disproportionately, bet them
all or don't bet any of them and bet them
all for the same amount.
